If you are hungry, would you have the energy to even come on Nairaland? NO.

Where does most of the food we eat in the country come from?

Name it: Yam,Beans, wheat, egusi, groundnut oil, sesame seeds, ginger, kola, onions, tomatoes, pepper, meat (cattle), even some fish, some rice and the list goes on.
Nigeria imports much of its food and products such as yam, cassava, palm products, melons (egusi) and cocoa are grown in the south.

Onions are grown in the middle belt, likewise ginger.

Pepper can and does grow anywhere.

We can live without cattle. Stop overstating the importance of the North. The truth is clear to those with eyes.

Most states aren't. Infact, only Lagos has had leaderships that 'try'. Do you know why? Lagos is the eyes of Nigeria and they dare not fail. As soon as any Governor of Lagos state wants to nap, they will call him out on social media or by the civil society groups.

My advice is that other states should emulate Lagos in holding their leaders accountable. Abuja people are too docile to do that and that's why they have a dead leadership before El Rufai came into office and after he left.

Imagine a small state like Bayelsa, with too much revenue, tiny land mass and population to spend on, yet they owe workers salary. What about Osun and AregbeRascal?

Your fixation on 'oil' is the problem.

Oil should be used to power industry to create employment and taxable income not be sold on the open market, only for Nigeria to import fuel and diesel.

Until people stop thinking 'oil' and start thinking about production and innovation then these kinds of things will keep happening.

Of course I don't rule THAT out.....but their economists are the ones saying they spent 100bn USD buffering their currency (and the Saudis love their strong currency too much)....and anyway they have brought in measures like a sovereign wealth fund, government bonds and so on.And there is talk of ''diversification''.

Keep in mind that Saudi also needs oil to stay at $70 and above to balance the books....and that oil is at $50 per barrel. That's a loss of $20 per barrel.
Saudi Arabia has been talking about 'diversification' for decades. They have significant oil reserves for 80 years.

The population has been expanding but they still have serious problems with unemployment - the number of expats that they play host to is matched by the number of unemployed Saudis. This is why whenever there is religious conflict in the Middle East you can guarantee that Saudi youths will be at the forefront, making trouble.

They have a system of government that doesn't allow for innovation and genuine progress. Don't believe the lies that they feed the international press.

Well, while we should have saved more....at the end of the day , it won't have made much difference....it would have just delayed the hard times by a little longer.

The fact is, even if we saved....we would have ended up with about $60-100bn in the savings. And that is just enough for ........one extra year of health. Which with oil prices being as they are.....means we would be having this conversation next year.

That is true, especially regarding electricity.....and transport.

Having said that there is only one solution

Running an austerity government, while spending money on transport, education and power....with the sole aim of stimulating more industrial growth in the next ten years.

Nigeria is not a rich nation. Time we faced that fact. Even if we saved....we would have gotten just $100billion....which is the amount Saudi Arabia spent to buffer its currency in one year (2014-15). And now them Saudis are singing about diversification (When you lose $124bn in one year.....on legitimate things...not on corruption...know that problem dey.....with capital P.).
Saudis are corrupt and wasteful too. Don't assume that all of that money went where it should. How do you think all of the various princes support their lifestyles?

Are you guys aware that Christianity is not the only religion in Nigeria, if you say biblical laws should supersede state laws, then the Muslims is right when they say Shari'a laws should be superior to the constitution. IFA worshippers could also insist Ifa laws should supersede state laws. What you are advocating for is anarchy.
Religion and state must be separated to avoid anarch .
Nigeria is a secular nation but religious people are fond of ignoring section 10 of the constitution:

10. The Government of the Federation or of a State shall not adopt any religion as State Religion.

There's a lot of ambiguity in the constitution but the above is clear.

That they cannot respect that most simple of requests is proof that religion is about power, prestige and control. Morality is, at best, a secondary concern for the religiously inclined.

The same bible refers to rebellion as the sin of witchcraft.

You forget that God rules over both the good and evil, and he has subjected the earth to rulers, powers and principalities that are evil, that in fact are fighting against His own people.

The problem with today is we have equated democracy, human rights and equality with Godliness. God is not democratic. He's a King, and respects order, he works through the systems of authority in place over men. Godly or not, they are answerable to God...

Hebrews 13:17 |

Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

Meshack Shadrack and Abednego did not rebel against the Kingship of the Babylonians King. They only refused to worship his God. He was an evil King, did not know God, but they served him. So did Daniel, and God prospered them in Babylon. Daniel received his visions as a faithful servant of several Babylonian Kings. That's how it works.

Now compare the success of Daniel in Babylon to His last king in Israel who refused to surrender to evil Babylon despite the words of several prophets like Jeremiah, and had his eyes gorged out, his sons killed and the kingdom taken.
I don't equate anything good with 'godliness'. I know what it means to keep people mentally enslaved, that is the very purpose of the god myth.

The Bible does a good job of spreading confusion and internal discord. In that regard it serves its purpose.
Christianity Etc › Re: When a government is becoming ungodly: should Christians continue to obey? by mmsen:
Muafrika2:
Rebellion is dangerous. Submission even to evil rulers (and there are more evil rulers than righteous on earth) won't kill you. Just because a ruler is evil doesn't mean he's not recognized as such before God. Remember Saul and David? David refused to harm him even when he tried to kill him. He was still the anointed King.

Submission to all kinds of authority is does not have exceptions. Take whoever is in authority as God's appointed servant, and with the ability to make your life miserable upon rebellion. And that will be God's sword, because he will get humility out of His children. So never speak ill of your boss, president, local leaders, because even your own angels will strike you.
Cowardice is immoral.

Submission to those who do evil is to silently comply with evil.

Doesn't the Bible say something about a man not being able to serve two masters? How then does one serve good and evil simultaneously.

The solution to the black problem is fixing the breakdown of families structure. This is mostly encouraged by liberal leaning views. The breakdown of family means the family depends on one income thus more poverty, it means one parent have to work more than normal and cant raise the kids growing up. The kids are thus raised by the street and the useless area fathers who introduce them to drugs and crime early or get them pregnant by 13

E.g a case in Louisiana, a woman whose kids went to burglarize the neighbors house, whipped the kids after that, Next thing she has been thrown in jail. Thats part of the liberal campaign to break down family, encourage single motherhood, be free from consequences of decisions and basically YOLO your life. Now if the kids had been shot by the owner of the house they would start protesting on the streets or if they do the burglary when they are 18 they would be given lenghty sentence and cant get a job for life, but now its illegal for the biological mother to correct them but okay for govt to send them to long jail terms.

No govt can grow the society like the family. Look at the African American in the 60's look at that time when the family was still together. Look at their black heroes like Malcolm X, Martin Luther, Rosa Parks even Mohammed Ali see how they dressed responsibly, see the logical arguments they gave for civil rights, their level of education. I watched it recently and I was impressed and wonder how they got from that place to where they are right now.

Their heroes are now Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj. I was chilling with a 9yr old black boy he saw my facebook and asked "whyy is it that all your brothers and sisters have the same last name as you?

If the family restructure is not reinstated nothing would change. An African or Asian would come to America who can barely speak English but because they still have an intact family structure they would rise in the society. The richest groups are still those who keep the family intact

If you look at Nigeria sef the YOLO thing is coming soon and the breakdown of the family is gaining grounds, Look at a whole Dele Momodu celebrating his niece who's a baby momma to Davido, Some weeks ago I saw her twerking on instagram to celebrate her birthday, Honestly what do you expect her to teach her daughter?
That woman is 30 years old, single with 6 children. That is the root of the problem, the reckless manner in which some women breed.

It's one thing to be individually poor or mentally disturbed but when you begin having children you drag more people into the materially and emotionally deficient quagmire that you create - that is evil.

It saddens me when I see how people cheer politicians for doing a job they were elected and paid to do.

On a serious note with all the money being spent on environmental agencies, tax payers are still required to clean their street and we find nothing wrong with it.

To be honest it is time we started asking our governors and local government chairmen questions. How can you pay people that work in environmental agencies every month and also allot money to same ministries, you still come back to the tax payers; stop them from going about their businesses and subject them to clean the same streets that are the responsibility of the government.

When will be wake up and do the right thing?
I agree strongly on your first point.

While I agree on the second point - it's the taxpayers who destroy their own environment by not dealing with their refuse appropriately. Maybe they need to be bombarded with more information on the need and benefits of keeping the environment clean, such as the end of 'environmental' days where movement is restricted and businesses suffer. Such practices have no place in the democratic era.

The arena in which WHO lived?

The fictional characters?

Thanks for admitting Christianity is a European fairytale. Question is, WHY should Africans be taking part in that fairytale?

Sure. Go and attack one of them and see how the rest will react. That day you will know they're brothers.

Keep deceiving yourself.

Asians practise Asian religions. Africans practise European and Middle Eastern religions.
Christianity is a fairytale based upon older fairytales that was eventually imposed/adopted by Europeans.

Pakistanis are Asians. Bangladesh, Malaysia, Indonesia are Asian countries - they are all Muslim nations. The largest Muslim nation in the world is not in the Middle East but in Asia.

Mexico is not in Europe, likewise Brazil - those are the two biggest Catholic nations.

I don't wish for Africans to engage in dishonest discourse - religion is a part of the problem, it gets in the way of the truth.

Please stop repeating lies.

You're just blowing unnecessary grammar, and basing your argument on what individual countries are doing, when the title of this thread clearly states 'races'. Asians are into ASIAN religion, whether it is Buddhism moving around India and China, or Bangladesh. They are all brothers. Africa doesn't have that. Europeans are into EUROPEAN religion.

Christianity is a European religion. The very contents of the bible - what would go in and what wouldn't - were decided by the Council of Nicaea, under the auspices of Emperor Constantine of Rome. The middle eastern backdrop to the religion was invented. There is no proof that any of those people you mentioned - David, Noah, Moses, etc, actually ever existed.
The Bible had to be translated from non-European languages into Latin. From there to the various European languages. The characters of the Bible may be entirely fictional but the arena in which they lived is the Middle East, not Europe.

We've just seen with with the EU that the Europeans are not 'brothers' - there is deep animosity and has been for millennia.

Besides, the first Christian nation was either Armenia or Ethiopia - neither of which is in Europe.

There is nothing 'brotherly' about interactions between Arabs and Pakistanis/Indians - this much is clear when you go to the GCC.

Indians and Chinese are culturally and ethnically different and have been fighting over their borders since Indian independence.

You talk about 'blowing grammar' but you are making unfounded statements.

You make oversimplified statements based on falsehoods.

The word 'Hindu' itself has roots in Persian language and customs. These were the people who invaded India prior to the Muslim invaders and the Europeans. They haven't moved on at all - they still have serious self-hatred issues and a stupid caste system more than two thousand years later.
