shocked shocked shocked Actually, it is. Unless you want to argue that our continued survival as a species is not a right.

Talking about making informed decisions; poverty is transient and millions of folks rise out of it in Africa and Asia. On the other hand, ending your genetic lineage is irreversible, at least for now. So you make a decision.
There are 7 billion people and rising.

If you wish to keep adding to that number then so be it but I do not want to hear such people crying about anything - be it global warming, desertification, urban sprawl, water scarcity, fuel scarcity, rolling blackouts, grain/rice/wheat shortages because all those things will be in your and your children's future(s).

It always seems as if the least intelligent, least capable human beings are the ones most eager to breed. Usually with no regard for the future, whether that be their own immediate welfare or that of their offspring.

First: You don't know how many kids she has.

Second: No sane woman would go childless and not pass on her genes just because she is poor.
Having a child is not a right, nor is passing on poverty which is what this woman is doing.

Being sane, entails being cognizant of your circumstances - which means making informed decisions. Have children if you can afford to take care of them well.

Raising a child is a privilege and until people in Nigeria come to realize that fact we will keep listening to people groan about the poverty that they have brought upon themselves and their unfortunate children.

YourNemesis:
Governments can OWN businesses if done right, and why are you only siting failed examples of government run businesses from Nigeria? Lagos state has proven to be a shining star tat can do things right, and it is a very atypical Nigerian state. I think you will even agree with me tat the LASG has proven to be more administratively effective in certain respects than even the Federal government. There are several successful government run(owned) as well as sponsored franchises and ventures around the globe ESKOM in South Africa is government owned, Petrobras in Brazil, Several other examples in US, Canada, Australia and so forth.
There are states that are more effective than the Federal government - CRS and AKS, for example.

Your state owned enterprises are a terrible example - Petrobas is mired in the biggest corruption scandal in south American history. Eksom is notoriously inefficient so much so that their inability to supply power caused the price of palladium and platinum to sky-rocket. Eksom is so incompetent that it has warned South Africans to get used to rolling blackouts because they cannot resolve the issue, meanwhile they constantly seek more government funding.

You failed to offer any examples from the US, Canada or Australia because good examples from those nations do no exist.

The beauty of private business is that those companies that fail to provide a worthwhile service will go out of business or be bought out by the more competent entities. As opposed to failed government enterprises that continue to be a burden on the public purse.

Because he could site that fertilizer plant in Sokoto, Kebbi or somewhere in the North where majority of farmers are and import the raw materials from Niger and Chad.
There is already a pool of knowledgeable rice farmers in a state like Kebbi, and Lagos is simply tapping into that. Not unlike The Americans owning Banana plantations in Costa Rica.
American private enterprise, not the US government.

There is a difference. Nigerians should by now be aware of how disastrous it is for government to run businesses - NITEL, NNPC, NEPA.

The worst part is that Lucifer wasn't even mentioned to have tempted Adam and Eve in the Bible . The Bible made it clear that is was the serpent which was the wisest among the beast of the field. How did that translate to Lucifer or Satan?

The only place in the Bible Satan acted was when God gave him permission to torment Job.

No where did he lie, murder, or destroy, I just don't get how these people read their holy book.
Most religious people don't read the Bible.

As children, their Sunday school teacher tells them what it says and how to interpret the message and they nod their heads.

As adults, the pastor tells them what it says and they nod their heads again.

This is intellectual cowardice.

What expense I ask you?
What was used to develop Warri, Benin, Uyo International stadium, Asaba, Calabar and Port Harcourt light rails and conference centres, Yenagoa, Uyo, Port Harcourt, Brand new Akwa Ibom Airport, Ibom tropicana, Asaba international Airport And Calabar? Ice Water money? Forget the lies that your oil money was used to develop Lagos that is total bollocks. As for Abuja, it is our national capital city, and it has to have at least a semblance of modernity. Every Nigerian calls the city home, including people from the niger delta.
If my state was getting a quarter of what Akwa Ibom or Rivers gets on a monthly basis, we would have turned the place into fuc*king paradise by now.
Some of these your lines are getting old and stale and Nigerians are learning really fast.
Which state would that be? And you forget that it is only recently that AKS has been receiving the 'large allocation' that Nigerians like to talk about.

If Nigecia is a federation then there should be no unitary collection of revenue. Let each state, produce what they can and pay royalties but the FG should not be the one to take collect revenue and then 'share' it.

Anyway, the reason they are blowing up pipelines is because they know they have the Federal Government by the throat.

That JUNK you called confabulation will not be implemented because it is unconstitutional, illegal and a waste of resources. Besides buhari isn't the appropriate "body" to implement it, your NA is the body to implement it. Buhari won't give in to any cheap blackmail from any part of this country. Militants say they will make his government ungovernable, we are keenly waiting for them. I promised you, the avengers or whatever they are called will regret the very first day they blew up a pipeline just to spite the president. And tompolo should pray very hard because when he is finally apprehended like the common criminal that he is, believe you me he will never be the same again.

Already the militants/economic terrorists asked for it because they thought they are somehow "invincible and untouchable", but the creeks will be comb and the rag tag militias will eventually be smoked out. It was done in sambisa forest which is by far bigger than the tiny creeks the avengers are hiding in, same thing will be repeated in the creeks.

BUHARI WILL NEVER DIALOGUE with any criminal group. Militancy in the Niger/delta will be stamped out once and for all
Why was the confab junk? Did it not provide an avenue for Nigeria to hash out it problems and propose solutions? Are you saying that nothing good came from it?

What do you have against true federalism? Does it not allow for a more decentralized system that would allow for better management? Would it not encourage each part of the nation to develop at its own rate?

Also the unitary system that Nigerian is now plagued with was imposed by the military - it was not in place when cocoa, palm oil and groundnuts made up the government revenue. For the record, palm oil and cocoa were the prime revenue creators, not groundnut.

Politics › Re: Sharia Court Bill: Leo Ogor Speaks - "Nobody Is Expanding Sharia To Anywhere" by mmsen:
Demmzy15:
In a secular liberal democracy, you're allowed to follow any law. Shariah law is for Muslims so it doesn't concern you, so if indeed you practice democracy why can't you allow Shariah especially when it doesn't concern you!

Shariah is practiced in UAE, Malaysia, parts of Indonesia, Qatar and this countries fare well better than most western countries. Many Nigerian christians are in Qatar and Malaysia, and they're allowed to do their activities(mind you they're Muslim majority countries). In Shariah law, no Muslim is allowed to destroy any properties of Christians so nothing to worry!

I'm in 300lv, for the past 3years have spent in school, my department allowed Muslims to pray just last week. If this isn't oppression what is it? This country is more favorable to christians, look at our dating systems, muslims have their own dating but we follow the Gregory calendar which was introduced by a pope. In saudi arabia, no work on Fridays till Saturday but in Nigeria we go to work on Fridays and Sunday is an holiday. Yet you shout Islamization, as a Yoruba man I support the implementation of Shariah in Nigeria for Nigerian Muslims.
I am not a xtian so I have no interest in religious rites. And I care for Western nations as much as I do Islamic. I am promoting practical solutions for Nigeria and Sharia is not practical.

Nigeria's constitution has a lot of chaff in it but point 10. that states Nigeria is secular is one of the best, most unambiguous statements in the entire document. We are constantly told that religion is a 'personal choice', do it in your own time. If your religion interferes in your day-to-day life then you need to review your religion.

What you seem not to understand is Islam and the Islamic calendar is nothing but Arab supremacy. Is a dating system imposed by a pope any better or worse than one imposed by an Imam? Which allows for greater accuracy? Which is better overall should be the main point, not who brought the system into being.

I haven't shouted anything, least of all Islamization - Sharia law (as imposed by a state or the Federal government) contravenes the constitution and the wishes of a large chunk of the population. None of this should surprise anyone, Islam advocates for theocracy which is counter to democracy, the system that we are/were trying to pursue in Nigeria.

You mentioned that a liberal democracy affords everyone the right to follow whichever laws they like - this is erroneous, a democracy means that the people's representatives make laws that form the framework of their society. That is not the same as following whichever laws you wish to. If you want Islamic laws then move to an Islamic nation or move to Boko haram territory where they will kidnap and rape your daughter; or where Ali Yerima will buy your daughter, use her, then dump her pregnant on the street.

10. The Government of the Federation or of a State shall not adopt any religion as State Religion.

They shamelessly loot state funds and yet no court has ever even attempted to try them - all these northerners who are clogging the Federal courts with their cases should face the Sharia courts instead, if that is what they truly believe. Secular laws. Secular nation. Really? How secular is Sunday as compulsory non-working day throughout the nation? Afterall Sunday is a working day in Isreal.

The problem is that we southerners don't believe northerners have any rights except the ones we magnanimously concede to them.
Most nations have a day or two allocated for rest. That is not religious but based upon the reality that human beings need rest otherwise employers will work their employees to the bone.

If they wish to have Islamic laws let them break away to form an Islamic nation. Nigeria was not founded as a religious nation - the constitution states that it is secular "10. The Government of the Federation or of a State shall not adopt any religion as State Religion." A new Islamic republic would require new borders, a new constitution, new currency and a new source of revenue that is not Niger Delta oil or tax receipts from Lagos.
