It was narrated that Ka‘b ibn ‘Ajrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said to me: “Charity extinguishes sin as water extinguishes fire.” Al-Tirmidhi (614); classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Sunan al-Tirmidhi. |

AideeSheks:YES! And Yes, having high grades is not a bad thing at all. One should still always strive hard to attain the best scores and grades. My point is just simply that one must not just sit back and rely on only this. Thanks for this! I find this really encouraging "one should stive hard to attain the best scores and grades". Yup. I got your orginal point. |
AbdelKabir:Okaay so from my understanding a stubborn unjust person is the one who denies the truth and continues his actions. |
Jazakallahu Khyran for your contribution Aideesheks. I wanted to talk about education but I wasn't sure how it would be received plus I don't know the system. If the educational system isn't preparing people for the workplace then there needs to be a reform. But how do we get the system reformed? Excluding the government, how can an individual enhance his/her skills? I think an individual can take up the responsibilities to better improve his/her skills by taking external courses and attending workshops. I also think for one to be motivated to improve his/her skills, there needs to be a passion/drive for the studied course. One of the things I think we need in Nigeria is more universities, people are sometimes forced to study courses that they don't want simply because there are a lot of applicants and not enough room for everybody. This is also true in developed countries as well, but it seems to be quite high in Nigeria. I agree that having a high grade doesn't necessarily translate ton increased chances of employment and I have been told this countless times by instructors but I still don't know why grades mean a lot me- I love being the best that there is or at least one of the best, but I can't deny that doing well academically is a value that has been instilled since I was young. I also think parents should be more open to the idea that education is broad- it doesn't just have to do with grades and working in an office. |
AbdelKabir:I don't know. Probably because I am not good at it and I don't fancy it tbh. I usually like doing things I love. I can do anything science related *including physics* but when it comes to technology, its just not my thing. |
Demmzy15:Who doesn't want a 6-7 digit salary? If I eventually get into an oil company, I'll work under someone and that's the end. I've not contributed to the society, but if I graduate(probably after masters) work let's say in a robotics firm for some years and eventually come back and start something in Nigeria, then I've contributed greatly(because this concepts can be used in almost every aspect of our lives).I agree with this! This is what entrepreneurship taught me, my dad also told me, if I could make something for my final year project which could be commercialized and produced, this will also help. I tell you Ukti, in Nigeria, there's great opportunity. I've also noticed that the 'Bank of Industry' also helps when you present something tangible to them!I like how you are talking about creating things. I think we need more industries! But what about people who don't know jack about creating things? I've thought to learn about programming and software stuff but I HATE anything IT related. I don't know anything about engineering either. I am just managing the computer science course I'm taking because it's compulsory. Now for someone with a background in health sciences, the way I would love to contribute to my country is by providing health services either by working with the Ministry of health *which I need connections for*, working for an NGO or starting up my own hospital *which I need money for*. Jazakallahu khayran for telling me about the entrepreneurship course. I was thinking of taking one over the summer but I wasn't exactly sure about. I will consider doing that now, so if you can recommenced online courses, that would be great. |
One of the things I learnt recently is that people who are powerless don't think it's possible to have power. Power doesn't mean necessarily mean authority but to control over one's life- the type of housing, jobs, neighborhoods etc. This made me think of Nigeria honestly.. we are so used to bad leadership that it is a norm and we don't believe sometimes that it possible to change situations. I actually don't realistically see Nigeria changing for the better anytime soon and I am not trying to be pessimistic. |
Demmzy15:True... but it's not he connection that bothers me. It's the fact that people lose their lives. |
Demmzy15:This is wonderful. How did it change you as person? What did you learn in terms of being an entrepreneur *very briefly*? |
YES. |
Am I the only one thinking, perhaps we need younger, competent, and vision driven youths occupying government positions? |
Demmzy15:Can you tell me more about this? Is it across all universities and it is a compulsory course? |
