Great Ogboru |
Simple, if this is true, INEC needs to take a firm stand and cancel the elections in that area. If the parties cannot control thier thugs, then they will be no election. This is getting out of hand, the country is turning into cowboy nation |
Why is it that at the slightest argument, insults thrown everywhere. please lets respect each other. Nigeria is going through very trying times, we must all pull together, no matter what party you support and condemn this heartless henous crime. |
There you have it, and some people claim this is a good idea. |
This cannot be justified. They had over 6months to create an special election security team comprising of the different forms of police, well trained with decent kit. But no they would rather unleash this on Nigerians. Quote frankly people will stay indoors |
walton1:I dont accept that a notoriously corrupt ex-governor or anyone for that matter should be given immunity from prosecution. In the spirit of fairness, efcc should vigorously go after odilli. And what happend to uduaghan when he was kicked out and lost all immunity. The efcc is a shamefully "not fit for purpose" organisation and must be either re-organised or scrapped |
ifyalways:Exactly my point. This has the potential to frighten people away. Nigerian millitary and police services have a reputaion of indicipline, how do you control this reckless order. I think it is wrong. It is only in Nigeria we call millitary to police our elections what does that say of us, and give then a free reign with shoot at sight orders. Wrong move |
Well, let use hope that they show decipline, because the consequences could be terrible |
~Bluetooth:My brother I have, but this is not a case to use a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Innocent people are going to get caught up in this craziness. And I dont agree that this is the best way to go about securing the place. Not in a democracy, there is the potential for it to escalate and we know what will happen then. Intelligence based policing is a better approach. I totally condemn this, I can also bet you this might discourage people from coming out to vote for the fear of being caught up in any cross fire. Bad move in my opinion |
Is this really democracy? for all want of a free and fair election, there is no way a shoot at sight order should be given against the citizens of Nigeria. Another stupid order from whoever. |
SECURITY yesterday topped preparations for tomorrow’s National Assembly elections as the various agencies of the Federal Government unveiled measures to ensure law and order during the exercise. The military, whose men are to patrol the streets but keep a distance from the polling centres, yesterday ordered its personnel to shoot on sight any political thug attempting to foment trouble. The police also warned anyone with intention to cause trouble during the exercise to review their stance, as no unruly behaviour would be tolerated from any quarter. http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=44142%3Asoldiers-get-shoot-on-sight-order-in-fresh-assault-on-polls-violence&catid=1%3Anational&Itemid= |
I cant comment on the full Poll, but I doubt the prediction or poll os Delta state. It will be near impossible for PDP to win that state. Did anyone on here actually participate in the said Polls? |
This is our time to get things right. People must remember this has nothing to do with North or South, East or West. But everything to do with credible, honest Nigerians, who are prepared to Serve you and I, no matter what part of the country you come from. |
I had a passionately heated argument with a long time friend of mine over the usual politics. He is a Ribadu man I am Pro Buhari. One thing which was clear was the desire for change, but even more was the need to recognise the immense sacrifice those who honestly choose to lead us make. We must all remember that the political terrain in Nigeria remains very very dangerous, and all who give their time, effort and put themslevs up for public service, in honesty, must be greeted. It doesnt matter which side of the political fence you sit on, it cannot be easy. |
The peoples General, striding humbly. Remarkable, those who have eyes, ears and mouth, let them acknowledge the truth. This man surely has the love of Nigeria at heart |
Things like this are why we must start getting things right. If not our children and our childrens, children will suffer the consequences. i know the loom I get from people in the UK when I tell them i am from Nigeria. Sometimes people dont understand the depths of their actions, the world see our politicians as a direct reflection of who we are, like it or not |
@Ezeuche, they say who no go no know. The poster is entitled to his complaint. The same thing was said about Uduaghan of Delta state, now people are begining to realise he is a fraud. |
what an absolute mess. What is going on? |
of all my criticisms of Goodluck, this is a sensible decision at this stage of our development, when we cant even manage coal fired plants |
Am I missing something? Was this not Goodlucks decision in the first place? why the denial now So now that it is percieved that Jega might be a failure, he was implanted by Buhari. What excuses wouldnt they come up with. |
rasputinn:My brother warri no dey carry last, kpata-kpata na draw. but I must talk am. Any well run organistion always has a deputy who can step in if something happens. INEC should not be an exception. We must not give those who lead such organisations the impression we cannot move on after them, hence the seemingly hostage situation we find ourselves. |
I am not quite sure with all these failure how we are likely to have a free and fair election. This is just one aspect, what about security and other issues. I shudder to think what will happen if and when we eventually get the chance to vote. Are we saying Jega does not have a deputy within INEC that can step in and get things done? |
@efisher, I totally agree with you. The writing was on the wall, right from the registeration days. Beside this whole thing can be narrowed down to an institution badly managed and run. So I do not buy the idea that the electorial reform act had anything to do with it. It was more or less administative failure. When did Jega know about all these problems? weeks? days? If it was days, shows his level ofn control of this organisation, it seems to me his doesnt really know what is going in INEC. As one who ha chosen to head this institution, he should have had reports on his desk detailing that everything was ok, at least 3 weeks before the election day what was his plan B? A leader of today who does not have a plan b or c, is really not ready to lead. There are always going to be issues along the way, it is how you negate then that shows your leadship skills, simply relying on the last option at the forst sign of trouble shows one who is not a forward thinking as is required with this post. Now for those who feel Jega cannot go now, simple scenario, what if the man falls ill and cannot make the elections, what do we do? Postpone the elections till he gets better? In properly run institutions, one would have capable deputie, who can pick the ball up and run |
Demdem:My brother, I do not accept your line of thought. Jega had vast amount of money at his disposal, and ultimate authority to run things properly @ INEC. A good manager would use such resources at his disposal to acquire the best people to do the job. He simply didnt understand that basic management 101 concept |
@Guk, I totally agree with you. You are right 100%, but the Nigerian way is to make excuses for everything. The signs where written clearly on the wall, when he conducted the voters registeration, then came the Delta state re-run, now this, and I wonder why people are surprised. Jega may be a good man, but the task at hand is way beyond him |
I beg to differ. If the man wants to go, he should be allowed to. I cannot accept that an institution as large as INEC does not have a capable Deputy lead who can step in with the necessary support and get things done. This is why as a nation and a people, our institutions must be run differently. A single person should not be allowed to hold a nation to ransom, if we have effective institutions, it doesnt matter if Jega wants to go. At least he has tried by admitting say the thing pass am. |
LAGOS-INFIGHTING among senior officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, may have been directly responsible for the shocking postponement of the National Assembly elections, Vanguard has learnt. Commission officials speaking against the background of the admission by INEC chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega that the late delivery of result sheets from Japan caused the postponement, blamed bickering among senior INEC officials as the underlining reasons for what was generally condemned as a national embarrassment. Vanguard, however, learnt that the rift between Prof. Jega and some senior INEC officials including some Resident Electoral Commissioners, RECs, may have prepared the grounds for the colossal failure of the much heralded polls. The face-off between Jega and senior INEC officials, Vanguard learnt, followed feelings of marginalization since the inauguration of the new commission under Jega. The senior officials of the commission were said to have felt marginalized in the way and manner Jega carried out the administration of the commission. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/04/how-infighting-bungled-elections/ |
If true, shameful. why must people always want to cheat |
This is what really gets my goose. if it was a slip of tongue, then fine. But the fact that he says that only one arm of goverment is affected is a stroke of luck it downright wrong. What is wrong with us in this country. Why do we attribute everything to luck. This is just another case of extreme bad planning. I have been extremely critical of Jega, and I believe rightfully so. there is no way he can explain to Nigerians that his principle task cannot be fullfilled because the key ingidients are not available. So what has he been doing. Key questions 1: When did jega know the materials were not available 2: Who's responsibility was it to ensure that they were ready on time 3: Why did they not make the necessary checks 2 /3 weeks before the said date. 4: why did Jega wait till the date of the election to announce the postponement? Show a man not in total control 5: How come GEJ was informed so late in the process These questions and more should be asked, and Nigerians demand answers |
Guys, in as mush as it is disheartening to see or hear this, let us not be in haste, we ust let justice take its natural cause. I have called Ibori the buggest coward in the history of Nigeria, allowing those he used to serve time on his behalf while he shuns jail. The guy is a big fhucking Coward for allowing others pay for his crime, but I have no doubt, that it is only a matter of time. And yes those who he caused to go to jail will be out to mock him. Please let us be reasonable, there is not evidence to suggest Goodluck has anything to do with this, so I will appeal to people to drop the insults |
Beaf:Throwing insults again? you no dey tire?. |
@Beaf, Once again you are being turn apart on your own post. When the comments become too hot for you to handle, you either start a new thread, start insults or change your username. Shame we have not seen Mary_j_Blige for a very long time. Nice one. You are busy creating senseless threads rather than debate the big failure of the day, I am sure you will some find a way to blame this on BB |
