...heading to my rider's pick up point. On getting there she called. Rider: what no are you Me: I am at no. Xx Rider: ok I am coming out. I quickly decided to make a u turn so that the car will face the exit road leading outside the estate. Rider: but you told me you where outside. Me: when I picked ur call I was right in front of ur house. Rider kept on in a visibly angry tone. Me: I said the winning words ok I am sorry madam. This cooled her down & she told me to drop her at the clinic. On getting to the clinic. Me: ma, is this a drop off or do you want me to wait. Rider: I would please like you to wait. Moral of story: we should recognise that the customer is king and never find it too difficult to say the soothing words "I am sorry" |

radautoworks: After stumbling on this thread and reading about some of your challenges, I wanted to know if you guys would be interested in some sort of annual maintenance package for your cars. Maybe something like 6 oil changes, wiper blades, a brake pad change and fluids for your vehicle for one flat annual price? How much do you think would be fair/affordable for something like this you in your line? Do the math and let me know what you think and if it gains traction, I'll make it happen for Uber drivers only. When you have maintenance you just make an appointment and done. Good one MMA queen, but have you thought of taking it further by giving reasonable credit facilities to uber & taxify drivers, for car repairs, I think you should be able to work out something with uber/taxify. For instance your company could grant N100K credit line for each uber/taxify driver, which must be settled within 5 months. Uber/taxify would for interested partners/drivers reflect 20k negative balance every start of the month in the drivers app, and remit the money owed to your company over a period of 5 months or less. Everybody wins partners are sure that genuine parts are installed given the car better mileage on the road & thus avoiding downtime, uber/taxify are happy as more cars are on the road, riders are happy as the issue of cars breaking down on trips becomes a thing of the past; partners are happy as cost of maintenance is spread out and more manageable with the added bonus of top notch warranty, drivers on hire purchase can meet their targets, your company radautoworks/carquest would see reduced inventory holding cost, your staff's would have little idle time. In short everybody is a Winner!. |

ifyeez: Taxify needs to explain how dey dish out request, I ve been waiting for request for the pass 20min, another driver came to join me, we started gistin not more than 5min request entered his phone, he told me bros we go see later, immediately the person cancelled we checked nd saw the person was going to Lekki, I told him to calm down it will enter again, 2min same request came back, me am still waiting for request I done vex na to go house. If you work with taxify & have a driver that works for you, whom would you direct the request to.. the software can be manipulated to direct request to certain drivers, we can't rule out such scenarios. |

GAZZUZZ: surge trip 1.9 to ladipo from my workshop, no flood, just traffic @ oshodi, but 1.9surge Haba! What if you as the rider decides to hop out of the vehicle before getting to ladipo or your final destination, because of the heavy traffic. what do you expect the driver to do with the 1.9 surge. In such a scenario the driver is the ultimate loser. He has to burn time & fuel with zero chance of picking another passenger. |

Hello House, you are on a trip and you inform the rider that there is traffic congestion on the initial planned shorter route and that Google map recommends an alternative route which saves time and yet your rider insists you go via the congested route. Do we as drivers have any right to choose the best route that saves time and effort? |

Carshopper: I have been working out change of narrative ver2.0 update. I have come to see some pictures clearer and understand that your first year is really about putting initial capital back to good use.
Your ROI as we have come to understand starts when your capital is back in your hands. In achieving that you must build on the value of your investment and not really what the market is saying. There will always be crash in pricing system and you need to see it before it happens.
The first 13weeks is 85% smooth... less of worry on car efficiency assuming its a toks vehicle (note all things being equal). starting from the 14th week efficiency of vehicle will drop 10% - 20% depending on the handler, you start to hear things like AC not cooling, oga I dey hear one sound for back leg, boss when I am in traffic, the vehicle jerks.. to accommodate this we look again at the true value of the vehicle at this stage THEN we drop rental fee again to match the true value. Sometimes you may be lucky to find those complaints in 24th week... but my brother prepare for war in the time of peace o.
So we systematically drop rental fee as car efficiency drops according to value at that point in time e.g after 26weeks what you have gotten from the vehicle is your Earned Value. so if you were to sell off at 26weeks, you do be selling off @ 50% + people taste + demand.
.
BRB ... i wan shake something Proper vehicle maintenance should take care of all these issues, no need to rejig the weekly remittance. Thank God we now have carquest in town |

Tgiirl: Call to let the driver know where your are and not where the driver is. It is the driver coming to pick you up and not the other way round. Then simply ask how many mins it will take him to get to you. I am usually happy when the rider calls... it is a sure sign that you have sealed the deal & the rider is also saving you call credit. It is always annoying especially on taxify to drive to your rider's pick up point, only for the rider to cancel. |

taxiappguy: I personally believe Uber and Taxify are not doing enough to get customers in Nigeria. And this is the beginning of all stakeholder's woes. Granted, everyday; new riders are starting to use ride share as their preferred means of transportation. But also, a lot of drivers and owners have heard you can make some money on ride share, and they are signing up by the thousands monthly. I don't know what revenue figures these companies are posting (although I have a feeling profits are increasing), but what I do know is that ever since the inception of ride share in Nigeria, earnings have been on a steady decline.
Initially it was that you could make 100,000 per week. Of course a good percentage of this was some sort of incentive or the other. Requests were easier to find for drivers, this was not because there were so many riders but because the ratio of riders to vehicles was much lower than it is now.
When Uber came to Nigeria, there was a loud bang. Even though everybody heard of Uber at the same time; obviously riders got a head start on Partner-drivers. Think about this, for a rider to begin to use the app, all he had to do was download it and start using the service. A Partner-Driver on the other hand had to buy/own a duly registered vehicle, do an inspection, go through a training session and a test before they could start to use the app. Riders had a 1000 Naira entrance threshold into using the app, that same threshold was about 2,000,000 Naira for Partner-Drivers.
So very quickly, rider numbers swelled, and when partner-drivers began using the app the riders were waiting. At that time Uber was all over the blogs, it was new so it was on everybody's social media timeline. People wanted to be the first to tell their friends about rideshare. The cool new way to get around. But the novelty has long since worn off now, in fact in some cases, rideshare is beginning to get a bad rap among riders. You can go on social media to see how many negative reviews are starting to creep up on Uber and Taxify, despite their usually excellent service.
and, it's almost beginning to feel like demand is starting to out weigh supply. When Uber first came, they had great programs for getting new users on board. There was the Uber brand ambassador program, there was their partner referral program, there were all sorts of incentives. He'll, everybody was talking about it. "Make 400,000 Naira per month with your car, signup on Uber!" I still remember those days with a warm smile. Uber stopped almost all of these except for partner referrals and one or two scattered incentives here and there that seem more like plastic gimmicks than true incentives.
No customer acquisition programs, no ads. Just a boring "Get 500 Naira discount upon registration" that nobody knows about.
Thankfully, I have begun seeing and hearing Uber adverts in Nigeria now. I still think they are missing that human, word-of-mouth feel that their old programs gave them, where your friends and family wanted you to use an Uber. But what do I know. Please Uber especially (because you take 25% and hence should have a bigger marketing budget) a lot of us are depending on you getting your act right.
We are waaaaay more heavily invested in this than you are, we need the the realities to reflect this. You need to reinvest more of that money into customer acquisition. We need to see you actively trying to get us more customers.
You all need to pay extra focus on getting new riders especially if you insist on taking 25%(and 15%). There are too many vehicles on the platform and too little riders. If you do not work on getting new riders for your investors to feed on. It's your 25% they will start looking at next, and if they can't get a part of it, they will go to a platform that offers them more riders/earnings, Taxify, take note with your 15%.
If you all don't invest in more programs that will get us stakeholders more riders, someone else will. This is not a shade or a sub, it's a piece of advice. Hope u plan to proffer some solutions to the various problems you have identified. |

Veegoline: Just Imagine a driver wakes up 5am. Goes to work for uber and closes by 11pm, reaches home 12am tp sleep and wake up 5am again.
He makes 10k everyday on uber
Uber takes 2500 and leaves him with 7500
He will pay Car owner He will buy data He will buy recharge card He will buy fuel He will save to buy oil and service car He will save to renew insurance He will save to renew car papers He will save to fix car emergency problems
But Uber on the other hand will collect 2500 from other 1000 drivers in lagos in the name of commission. 2500 multiply by 1000 is equal to 2.5m.
So uber makes more than N2.5m everyday from services rendered by drivers and treats them as shit.
All uber does is pay govt tax, pay few staff and pay rent.
Its drivers that still pay inspection fee. So, if there are 1000 drivers in lagos, Uber has already bagged N2m naira on inspection fee, talkless of people who had to pay 2times because they failed inspection and people who's cars got blocked and had to return for inspection.
This is a big *slap* on us Africans. Let uber reduce that commission to 10% or leave Nigeria. But uber will claim that they now give 1.1 boost & technically their commission is now 15%. |
