Try another analogy wey fit make sense to me abeg...

Analogy 1

Athletics Federation flies you to Atlanta for a tournament. When you get there, you refuse to go for games. The Federation simply decides to send you back home.

Analogy 2

A man gets married to a woman he likes. After the wedding, she tells him she will have sex only once a month. He is not okay with it. He desires much more sex and decides to get a divorce, and walks away.

cool

Now, it is clear you're being biased against the male gender. Nothing wrong in what he or she did. They're both adults playing a game in which she lost.

He paid for a trip with a willing escort, which is within both of their rights.
He asked for sex, which is within his rights.
She refused, which is within her rights.
He didn't pressure her. He respected her decision. She slept on another bed, peacefully.
He moved up her return date, which is within his rights and sent her the ticket, which she acknowledged.
She now turned around to ask him for sex, which is within her rights.
He refused to touch her, which is within his rights.
If she didn't want to return, she could have moved up the ticket dates and paid for it. It is within her rights.
She kept asking him for more favours, which he declined, because he has the right to.

Frankly, if he was all about buying sex, he would have accepted it when she turned around to offer it to him.

He did nothing wrong there. Love and sex is a game, not a battle. Everyone plays his/her hands. Some win together, some win while others lose.

You really need to remove that gender bias from your line of thinking. It's getting sick.

After reading all this, I couldn't help wondering why people like the VP and Governor Ayade speak a lot of meaningless English, then go to bed, without doing anything.

TheRareGem1:
The FDI & PPP are key tools for economic prosperity, however, insecurity remain the main challenge, if we can win the war against insurgency, and other social vices, we are go to go because this is affecting a lot of Nigerians, farmers are unable to go farm, people are afraid to travel because the road is unsafe.

This is the VP's aide's attempt to interpret the speech. Meanwhile, they both ended up talking about entirely different things.

I can't also help recalling Buhari's first campaign townhall meeting at Lagos in 2014 where he said that "building roads will stimulate production of brake pads to create employment..." or something of that nature. It was easy to see the man did not know zilch about running an economy.

I am beginning to get the same vibes from the VP.

So don't blame Osinbanjo, na do Nigeria politics dey work.

Politics / Re: AnambraDecides: INEC Declares Governorship Election Inconclusive by Mordecai(m): 6:23am On Nov 08, 2021
sammy329:
With the way this election is disorganized, the courts will most likely settle this issue.Over 40,000 votes disappeared in Idemli and no one is saying anything. Even for Orunmba North, it has a lot of discrepancies.

I was watching the live collation results, these results have mago mago in it.

The court will decide!!

The Anambra State gubernatorial election may have come to a conclusion with the Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC] collating the election results of each local government area [LGA]. Information available to 247ureports.com obtained from sources within the All Progressive Congress [APC] indicates the gubernatorial candidate of the APC, Senator Andy Uba may have engaged in electoral malpractices of which one of the senior associate to Senator Andy Uba and recent decampee from the All Progressive Grand Alliance [APGA] to the APC, Hon. Ifeanyi Ibezim formerly representing Idemmili North and South LGAs in the house of representatives – was arrested by the Nigerian security forces at his home on election day.

On the evening of election day, Hon Ifeanyi Ibezim – who is considered a strong political force in the Idemmili north and south LGAs was reported to have snatched and/or commandeered a significant number of ballot boxes along with associated sensitive electoral materials to his country home. All the materials from the polling booths meant for one of the communities – Abatete – was cornered and sent to the home of Hon Ifeanyi Ibezim. His home was turned into a private polling booth. Voting materials from other communities were also commandeered and redirected to him home.

At his home, a group assembled by the Honourable member began thumb printing the ballot papers in favour of the Andy Uba led APC. While the thumbing was going on, the law enforcement officers were tipped off of the activities unfolding at the resident of Ifeanyi Ibezim.

His home was immediately surrounded by a joint task force of law enforcement officers. The security forces surrounded the home without the knowledge of the honourable member who was engaged in the thumb printing. Within minutes, the security forces barged into the complex and arrested the lawmaker.

With the arrest of Hon. Ifeanyi Ibezim, the ballot boxes and election materials were recovered and handed over to INEC – who then took appropriate actions to cancel the fake votes. Abatete results were thus cancelled. No elections were recorded for Abatete.

Calls were placed to appropriate authorities on the arrest of the honourable member. Higher authorities beckoned on the security forces to ease up on the lawmaker and release him – to avoid raising unnecessary dust.

247ureports.com reached the State Chairman of the APC, Basil Ejidike for comments whether the APC had sanctioned the activities of the lawmaker. He did not respond. The head of the Andy Uba campaign, Paul Chukwuma also did not respond.

Some truths and some untruths.

PDP handed over a debt portfolio of $67bn, both foreign and domestic.

The stability of the Naira had much to do with the high oil prices. They didn’t do anything special or smart to keep the Naira stronger that it is today.

The economy was growing under the PDP and the two recessions that we’ve experienced are more to do with outside forces - sharp drop in oil price, NDA for the first one and COVID for the second one. But the PDP can claim credit for the economic boom of their tenure.

Corruption was really bad under PDP. Money that should have been spent on infrastructure was embezzled. With all the money that we earned under PDP, there is no major infrastructure project to show for it

Also, the PDP left huge debts - salaries, pension, road contractors, JV Cash calls, subsidy debts etc that was cleared or is being cleared by the present government

The devil is in the details.

Please tell us how much debt the PDP administration handed over in the currency of payment. And tell us how much of it was bank credits. Then place it side by side the amounts racked up by 8 years of the APC.

Also note that the $67bn you stated here includes outstanding contract payments etc. That's misinformation.

PDP had a lot of shortcomings, the corruption was so annoying and infuriating, but in all, they were a far better option than what is happening today.

There was a worldwide economic meltdown that we did not experience in Nigeria, because the PDP administration did some things right.

The recession experienced in 2016 was not as a result of oil prices. Oil prices had always gone up and down. It had more to do with loss of confidence in our economy by investors, low crude oil output because the man elected president could not manage the Niger Delta militants, as well as his meddling in CBN monetary policy which led to a steep dive in the value of our currency.

The recession experienced in 2020 had more to do with visionless leadership than with actual covid-19 issues. We had low mortality in Nigeria and instead of pressing our advantage and stimulating production for export, they decided to lockdown the country while hoarding resources that would've kept the economy going.

Let's not revise history, please.

Let's start from , how much PDP met dollar in 1999 and how much did they left dollar in 2015 ?

Let's debate from there !!

PDP met the dollar at official rate N27 and parallel N90. The rate divergence is an anomaly in itself.

PDP stabilized the exchange rate for the better part of their tenure. The rates dived at the twilight of their administration and had more to do with the perception of the incoming administration than with the actions of the PDP administration.

How?
Naira was 22 naira to a dollar when PDP left. And it was 220 when they left

Nope, it wasn't.

Naira had two rates before civilian rule in 1999.
$1/N90 was the official rate against N90 on the parallel market.

Under the PDP administration, the rates converged and remained at N120-N150 for over ten years.

Can you say the same for the present government?

Edit:

$1/N27 was the official rate against $1/N90 on the parallel market before civilian rule in 1999. Ignore the error in typing above, please.

While the PDP administration had lots of shortcomings, we can all agree that the banking industry, telecoms, cement, insurance, and Payments Industry grew under their watch with the attendant growth in employment. They stabilized the dollar for all of 16 years and cleaned up our debt books.

Cannot say the same for the present government that gave us two recessions back to back, killing viable industries like flies, causing loss of jobs, and adding insult to the injury with their bogus claims about having lifted 30 million Nigerians from poverty in 2020.

Any Nigerian that thinks otherwise is either being sentimental and biased, or plain daft.

dettolgel:

I like your thought process, I am just curious.

If I understand correctly the focus of your conversation with the op is whether people automatically agree to polygamy through traditional marriage. In my opinion I don't think anyone does but at the same time I am not sure if the traditional system stops the man from doing so.

Our traditional law is as varied as the tribes in Nigeria which I think makes it difficult for someone like me without any form of specialised education on it to make a bold statement about it.

But from what I have observed one thing that appears common across Nigerian tribes is that during the time of our great grand parents and beyond (I don't the cut off time) is polygamy. Which I think has its basis on the then existing traditional marriage institute safe for places under sharia law, correct me if I am wrong.

Out of curiosity are you aware of any place with an updated traditional marriage law that might stop or illegitimized a second marriage given that the man already has a first wife?

NB: my question does not necessarily mean that because a law illegitimized it that some won't go ahead and take a second wife. There are people married in church or court but went ahead to get a second wife without necessarily taking the second wife to church or court.

Thanks for your insight.

In traditional marriage, just like the man, a woman can walk away from the marriage if she so desires. She is only obligated to return the bride price to the man.

In traditional marriage, marriage is contracted between families and not just persons. Which is why a man can send his wife packing, and his family will go bring her back without his consent.

Also, unlike written law, traditions aren't static. The marriage rites in Uyo today will differ considerably from what it was 40 years ago. And as society evolves so does the traditions.

While a lot of things are not okay with traditional marriage as practiced today, a lot is still wrong with civil marriage too. As a woman, I'd prefer civil marriage, but as a man, I wouldn't touch civil marriage with a stick.

So where do we all converge? It comes down to the persons, and the reasons why the marriage is being contracted in the first place.
Family / Re: Don't complain that your husband is cheating on you if you are on this table by Mordecai(m): 3:19am On Oct 19, 2021
maureensylvia:
Only women who are married monogamously under the marriage act (in court or in an approved church) have the right to say “My husband is cheating on me”! If you are only married traditionally, your husband never vowed to be faithful to you!

when you are married only under native law and custom your husband has the right to marry as many wives as he wants and there is NOTHING you can do about it. Also your children belong to him custody wise under native law and custom.

Constrictive criticism is allowed

First off, even unmarried persons in relationships talk of cheating. It is not a clause restricted to legal marriages.

Even in registry marriages, cheating still happens. Marriage under the act has not been shown to reduce cheating. In fact, the huge divorce rate (over 50%) in places like the US, of which majority of the divorces result from infidelity, is a testament to the fact that civil marriages do not deter cheating.

Secondly, even if civil marriages were to allow men take more wives, most men today would not exercise that right. Heck, they do not even want more children. They would rather still prefer the casual side chic.

Thirdly, while feminist movements are railing against polygamy, a new trend is taking its place - the baby mama culture. Because frankly, why would a man choose polygamy, or monogamy for that matter, when he can knock off different ladies, while retaining his freedom to be with any lady he so chooses?

Fighting corruption is laudable.

However, I hope Nigerians understand the whole issues behind NHIS.

NHIS if managed well, is supposed to unlock hundreds of billions in funds to the health sector.

However, politicians interested in looting the money have made sure that any NHIS boss that refuses to dance to their tune is dealt with.

You become the boss, they compromise you and you play to their tune. If along the line, you set a boundary and stop playing ball, they ensure that EFCC hounds you down.

If you refuse to be compromised, they use the myriads of other compromised staff against you. Your staff who should be your backbone.

If you decide to do without those staff, you'll have to train new ones, and those training cost money and allowances, which will never be approved in a budget. It is a well laid trap.

You do it anyway, you get sacked, afterall the law is the law.

The situation is almost a lose-lose situation and winning requires someone with both balls and tact running the country.

I think NHIS should be broken up and regulation of health insurance devolved to states. That might be the only way to break the stranglehold on it by the corrupt interests.

Exactly!
Plain and simple. He is being CHOKED!

Give him his space to be with himself sometimes. Everyone needs their privacy. Some, more than others.
I know this, cos I've been there more than once.
This happens mostly when you are guy with a wide variety of interests and a lot of people whose social circles you are an important part of.
Then you get to date a lady who has literally no other activities to engage in except a relationship and maybe a job. A lady or guy with two much time on her hands is a ticking time bomb for any relationship they get into.
Worse still if she and the guy don't have mutual interests in things movies and other hobbies. He then has to drop his interests and partake in hers whenever she is around him, hoping that when she eventually leaves, he can have a few moments catching up with stuff he is actually interested in.
When you don't give him that space often to do those things, he'll fill choked up and demand for space. If you refuse, he'll end the relationship.

@Krystalkitty, this here is the most reasonable answer you've gotten.

Asking for space does not mean breaking up. A lot of times, everyone including you, have a need to be alone, for introspection, or for other personal reasons.

Imagine how the VP's aides are passing off the news to look like the project was carried out by the VP. Meanwhile, he had nothing to do with it.

In fact, the FG did not spend a dime on the project. ASSBA got a loan facility from CBN, a loan facility, which would be repaid, with interest. And the VP's aides are trying to build political capital for him, in an attempt to reap where he did not sow.

He was just invited by the State Governor to do the honors of commissioning the facility.

The Managing Director of ASSBA, Clement Chukwuka, said the agency prudently utilised the N2 billion MSME’s facility from the CBN to establish the complex.

We are tired of VP talking to us. It's time for him to learn to begin listening. There's a lot that can be done with N2billion. Without having to loot N32billion in the name of Tradermoni, Farmermoni etc.
