The son of Late Human Right Activist, Mr. Muyiwa Ige yesterday said the family has handed over the masterminds and killers of his father, Chief Bola Ige to God for punishment.

The former Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning in Osun State, spoke with newsmen during a service held to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice. Chief Bola Ige, was assassinated at his Bodija residence in Ibadan, on December 23, 2001. Muyiwa said, although his father died for democracy to thrive, Nigeria was not worth wasting one’s life for.

He said, “We thank God for his mercies. We thank God for wonderful legacies. It has not been easy but God has kept us on and by the grace of God, all the perpetrators behind his (Ige) death, God will deal with them. It was my father’s death that took away my mother some 20 months later.

“But whether the country wants to immortalise my father or not, I don’t care inasmuch as the State Government of Osun has named a university after my father, which is massive. “It is the highest level of immortalisation. The road in this community is about 5km and it is named after my dad. There is a Bola Ige Information Technology Centre in Abuja. There are streets in Oyo State named after him.

“My father believed in Nigeria. He said Nigeria was worth living and dying for. The truth of the matter is, once your heart is in the right place, Project Nigeria is worth pursuing for all of us. Death is what we all owe and he paid the price for democracy to thrive.

“I am not so sure that Nigeria is worth dying for; however, we all have a responsibility to ensure that we don’t waste our lives for Nigeria.”

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has listed its inceptive Chairman, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu as a star witness to testify against the former Governor of Delta State, Mr. James Ibori.

Ribadu had in an affidavit accused Ibori of giving him $15m in 2007 in a bid to dissuade the former EFCC boss from initiating any case against him. However, after receiving the cash, Ribadu had entered it into evidence after which it was kept in the vault of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

According to Saturday PUNCH, Ribadu had said, “Ibori approached me with $15m to stop his investigation. The money was brought in sacks. I called my people because the money was in big bags, which two people could not carry and we deposited it in the CBN as evidence against him.”

In July 2012, the EFCC approached a Federal High Court in Abuja, requesting for a final order forfeiting the $15m Ibori bribe which had been in the vaults of the CBN for more than five years to the Federal Government as unclaimed proceeds of crime. Justice Gabriel Kolawole on October 25, 2013, awarded the Federal government ownership of the $15m Ibori bribe which was the subject of legal tussle between the EFCC and the Delta State Government.

When asked to react to information that the Attorney General of the Federation had listed him among the Federal Government’s list of witnesses against Ibori, Ribadu said, “I am not aware. But if I am asked to testify, I will. But like I told you, nobody has contacted me”, according to Saturday PUNCH.

However, after the ex-governor was released on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 from a UK prison, EFCC is expected to amend the charges brought against him in order to avoid a case of double jeopardy.

Beat FM Christmas Concert is something else guys and the 2016 edition is proving to be mind blowing as International and Local artist trills the audience. It took place at The Federal palace Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos. Notable faces like Naeto C, Dorcas Fapson, VJ Adams, Ehiz, Bizzle, DJ Cuppy, DJ Lambo graced the event, which saw amazing performances from both international acts present at the concert.

There was an excellent mix of both International and local acts, which set the upbeat mood for the concert. Also featured were notable Nigerian artistes such as Davido, Patoranking, Wande Coal, Adekunle Gold, Lil Kesh, Uzikwendu, Dammy Krane, Simi, Falz, Mayorkun and a couple of others.

West London group, WSTRN thrilled the fans with some of their hit singles like In2A-list, Come down, Got love, Coming home, wait for it, Social, Trap love and the reception was very encouraging as the musicians gave an absolutely amazing performance at the concert.

London rap duo, Krept& Konan are not new to the Nigerian audience so it felt more like a back to back as they were here last year for the same concert. They also got fans screaming and singing along to some of their popular songs like Freak of the week, Young and Reckless

If you’ve been following the trend, you’d have known by now of a certain synthetic rice which was believed to b rumors before but now, it is real and has been flooding the market. Much thanks to Nigerian Custom Service, but one can never tell how many of these had already entered into our markets as well as our individual homes.

We learnt plastic rice is made by forming potatoes and sweet potatoes into regular rice grains shape, then adding industrial synthetic resins, and could cause serious health issues. A Facebook user put up this video to educate Nigeria citizens on how to know which one is plastic rice.

The importation of fake rice into Nigeria is becoming very scary. Not because of the economic conditions, rather because of the individuals consuming these rice on daily basis. It is not enough that smugglers are smuggling expired rice into this country, now they are smuggling plastic rice into Nigeria. Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted 102 bags of plastic rice branded “Beat Tomato Rice’’ with no date of manufacture.

The Customs Area Controller of F.O.U. Comptroller Mohammed Haruna, made the disclosure in an interview with NAN on Tuesday in Lagos. He said that the commodity was stored for distribution as Yuletide gifts for the public. Haruna said that officers of the unit intercepted the plastic rice along Ikeja area on Monday, adding that a suspect was arrested in connection with the seizure.

“Before now, I thought it was a rumour that the plastic rice is all over the country but with this seizure, I have been totally convinced that such rice exists. We have done the preliminary analysis on the plastic rice. After boiling, it was sticky and only God knows what would have happened if people consumed it.

I advise those economic saboteurs who see yuletide season as a peak period for nefarious acts to desist from such illegal business. The unit has decided other operational modalities that will make them run for their monies and count their losses,” Haruna said.

Haruna appreciated well-meaning Nigerians who provided the service with prompt information that led to the discovery of the bags of plastic rice. The controller, however, advised the media to educate the public on the existence of plastic rice, adding that it was no longer a rumour. He assured the public that the distribution point of the particular plastic rice seized by the unit had been blocked with immediate effect.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has said that all computer-based centres to be accredited for the registration of 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), must now have Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras.

This was revealed by JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, during an interactive meeting with operators of CBT centres from across the country, at the University of Lagos (UNILAG). Oloyede explained that this was necessary, to avoid errors of the past. He also stated that the new process has made cybercafe operators redundant, as the computer-based centres to be accredited must have 250 desktop or laptop systems in a single room, with provision for additional 25 systems as back-ups.

Oloyede said: “What we have said is that we are in a period of change, and what that means is that everything we have been doing must be reviewed. Whatever we have been doing rights will have to be reinforced while what were doing wrongly will be changed.

“For the purpose of the CBT centres, we have to introduce the CCTV so that whatever that is going on at our centres can be monitored anywhere in the world. “We are also standardizing the CBT centres so that all CBT centres will have 250 computers with 10 per cent of the figure as backups.”

The National Assembly, Abuja has been shutdown by security operatives. The decision to shut the complex might not be unconnected with the preparations ahead of President Muhammadu Buhari’s anticipated visit to the National Assembly today to present the estimates of the 2017 budget to a joint assembly.

Meanwhile, Buhari is currently in the Gambia and it is not clear if he would be able to meet the scheduled 12pm appointment. It was gathered that members of staff have been denied access and all other organisations rendering services within the complex have been shut out.

Long queues of vehicles and crowds of anxious people are noticed along the entry points at the time of this report.
