Yes we did,and we are continuing building and maintaining our cities tongue

Honestly speaking now I've realised that South Africans are the only Africans who do what they preach,we work and yet we are called lazy by people who can't make any difference in their own country.
All our cities, roads, rails, airport and every thing beautiful in my country was and is build by us,blacks no labour forces where imported.Did you know that even in aapartheid blacks where paying even more taxes than whites?which means we did not only physically build our country's infrustructures but we paid for it.
Bro, Please accept reality. Every capitalist society needs a labour/slave class to sustain itslef. Which is why the first settlers in the cape (Van reibeck) started importing slaves into the cape from malay, mozambique, india and as far as Malawi. They started the construction of buildings, roads, farm labour and so on till it was swarped for labour from local surrounding ethnic groups.

Yes you built it but You did not control it. There is a difference. I don't want to scartch up old apartheid wounds cause I understand it sensitive nature but lets call a spade a spade. We can keep going on about whose cities are better Nigeria of SA but the reality is it is all relative.

Everytime SA is mentioned, they will counter-act by talking about AIDS and crime. Ba tlohele. Rena re ja JOY to the core. Just by seeing these Durbs pics, they become jealous and envious. Monna, kere I went to Lagos and man was I SHOKED!!! Roads have potholes all over, hills in the middle of the road, the buildings are dirty and mouldy. You can even count the number of traffic lights they have. The beach is downright dirty! Ashewo don finnish! Their only pride ke VI and Lekki. Moreover ABUJA!! Yet they have the liver to call themselves thh 'GIANT of AFRICA). They will talk about Ikeja, Festac town, etc but shit, that place is ugly.

My guy that is information that is verifiable plus you have to factor in population size. Botswana has only about 2million people. You can't compare porportionately. You understand.

NIGERIA WAS THE THE GIANT OF AFRICA PRE 1994

TECHNICALLY SA JUST BECAME AN AFRICAN STATE IN THAT YEAR.

your "question" made no sense. Evolution CANNOT account for variance in animal and human populations, adaptation however can. the question is - is adaptation and evolution the same? Flat out NO.

Is evolution a mechanism? Well you have to give concrete proof that evolution even occurs before you take that leap. Evolution remains an unproven THEORY, no one builds a house on shaky foundations.

I agree with you . . . you are a slowpoke. grin
At least you can read and answer questions. Now answer mazaje' s questions.

The person who started this thread want to portray the Black man as inferior or want to imply that melanin is a curse. There is a lot of scientifics informations about melanin, and I don't understand why talking about melanin is considered as Afrocentrist Propaganda by some persons on this forum.Melanin is a natural chemical in the body.Black people were created Black, with melanin it is as simple as that. The Black man is Black since the begining.Melanin is Millions of years old. Some people have more Melanin than others. The amount of Melanin in a persons body determines the rate of damage the Ultra Violet Rays of the sun can cause. The higher percentage of Melanin in a person's body the less they will be affected by the Ultra Violet Rays. Melanin produces Brown to Black eyes,Skin tone and wooly kingly hair that looks like the tops of trees when flying over them. Hummm! The people who are Melanin recessive beings have a deficiency which produces Lighter skin, Lighter eyes, and blonde hair. Melanin acts as a filter to prevent damage of the delicate deeper layers of skin, by the penetration of Ultra Violet light.
That dosen't sound like a curse to be dark skinned, DO IT? Actually it sounds more like a protective gift from Mother Nature to protect you against the deadly Ultra Violet Rays of the sun.
Horus. I am the one who started this thread and reason I was inquiring was to actually aprak a debet on the question far from what you are thinking as far as inferior or superior races are concerned. I don't have that hang up and infact never did. Was just curious for tangilble knowledge to explain variatons in skin colors. If you read the beginning post you will see how I try to debunk suggestions of a bibilical curse theory.

I don't understand when you say "Black people were created black". The word created would suggest there were no prototype humans that existed before the emergence of black skin. The only way that would be possible is if Adam and eve were black.

Melanin is reponsible of the things you mention above and lack of there of also consitutes the reasons for variations in skin tone. Thats all.

you're basically repeating my questions.

1. First highlight was why i asked Mazaje a simple question . . . how do you account for the large variability in phenotype between an asian and a Kenyan even though they share 99% of their DNA?

2. I asked okija to please explain the phenomenon of evolution.

Is adaptation the same as evolution? Pay attention in biology class next time.

We've seen fossils of dinosaurs . . . what did they evolve to?

We've seen well preserved fossils of cockroaches that are millions of years old. They are identical to modern day cockroaches. So everyone else evolved and cockroaches didnt? undecided
What about adaptations? how do you account for the variance in animal and human populations. Were they all created at the same time?

Is evolution a mechanism or no?

the question here is how did black people become black.

can we try to stay on track if possible.

Most people are aware of the hypothesis making the rounds among Afrocentric circles, that white people originated from African albinos. That's highly questionable and controversial, although if its a response to racist conjecture about blacks being next to monkeys on the evolutionary ladder, then both extremist sides should fight it out.
I think the gene mutation that causes albinoism is also responsible for the mutation that encouraged the lack of melanin production in varying levels of skin. The issue of White people being inbred albinos is not taking into account the intermediaries inbetween black and white.

OP,

Your hypothesis is plausible but I wonder where you would get 'samples' from.Africans are known to attribute anything they can't readily explain as 'supernatural'. Any proof to show that 'ogbanje' children were sufferers of sickle cell anaemia would at best be circumstantial.

I would be pleased if anyone can bring some scientific evidence to buttress your point because it is something I think biology can explain.

To the others, why do you think the OP's idea is laughable? Could you explain why you think this idea is insanely dumb or should we just continue in our usual attitude of not questioning what we do not understand? ehn . . . . graduates?
You are quite right the initial evidence will be circumstantial. however I am trying to gather further info from possible sources to corraborate. I am in the beginnigg stages of studying the subject matters concerned. My best sources at this point are books and references. I am also looking at SC symptoms and the percentages of cases between male and females to match against reports of typical characteristics of so called Ogbanjes.

I have been looking at ongoing cases of child witch cases in Akwa Ibom to correlate for possible similarities with mind sets of ehtnic groups andhow cerain situations are explaiend using superstitious beliefs and religion.

I am looking for like minded people who have thought about such possibilities to stare me in the right direction.

Thanks

I have been doing some research on sickle cell anaemia and its dominace in West African cultures and are now going to see if there is any correlation to this disease with the so called myths of Ogbanjes in Igbo culture.

It seems to be the most plausible explanation for the occurence of Ogbanje stories in the Igbo and most likely the Yoruba culture. I will begin research with the Igbos as there is more reference to this in books such as "Things fall apart" and so on.

What I noticed was that these so called Ogbanje's were said to be mischievious beings who would be born into families and would give theris hosts a hell of time by falling sick all the time and eventually dying prematurely only to come back again in another family to do the same thing.

What do you think?

Africa is a CONTINENT, not a COUNTRY. All Americans have that habit of calling Africa a country, and not realizing that this is the most diverse continent on Earth. West, South, North, and East Africans hardly have common traits, and our cultures are so different, with Bantus having the most in common, but still we are still very different.
I don't agree with the notion that Africans don't have commont traits? Are you talking Physical, cultural or what?
Nairaland GeneralRe: This Is Black America by morpheus24: 7:03pm On Nov 20, 2008

@ morpheus

black people have to call themselves african american because they do not know what part of africa they are from.
they call africa the mother country because that is the country our ancestors come from.
we could not hold on to africa tradition because the new born black babies were often separated from their africn parents so that the tradition could not be passed down. they were not allowed to play the drum or do anything pertainting to africa or they could be tortured or killed. so africans cannot practice african traditions.
Maybe they should start with understanding the history of slavery pre your ancestors getting on those ships. "If they really care to." There's inexpensive DNA testing that can pretty much track your geneaolgy to specific ethnic groups in Africa. Predominantly located in West Africa."if they really care to"

There's dozens of books out there that can help you understand more about these ethnic groups, which would in turn help to explain some of the inherent traits AA's display both phenotypical and genotypical." if you care to"

There's planes which you could get on to experience some of these cultures first hand and truly understand your origins as a people." if you care to"

I understand all the reasons for the problems AA's face as far as identity is concerned, however in this day and age there is no excuse left to use as a reason not to understand the similarities btw AA's and indigenous Africans or to begin to make your future generations have a stronger identification with their TRUE HISTORY.
