Hello everyone, am kind of new to this thread. please can I get the information I needed as a newbie in this part, if yes please from what page( have went through 1 to 5 and yet to gather any information) and if No, please what part shoul
d I start from....

Step 1

Research for schools that suit your profile perfectly in terms of programs they offer , requirements for admission and funding opportunities .

Step 2

Contact the *Graduate Coordinator* telling him why you are interested in the school. You're to introduce yourself talking about your name, Country, Course of Study, GPA, plans for GRE and TOEFL, Research Interests, publication and also why you like his research interests. Conclude the mail by inquiring if there are funding opportunities for your intended program.

Step 3

Prepare for GRE/TOEFL/GMAT (depending on the program requirements)

Step 4
Apply to the schools you choose ( Some schools requires you to apply for funding as you submit your application, some give automatic funding while some requires you to apply for funding *only* after admission offer)



Step 5
Request for your I20
The I20 is the most important Visa document which displays relevant information about your program, cost and funding.

Step 6

Process your SEVIS (fmjfee.com). The SEVIS is a compulsory fee which must be paid before Visa Interview.

Step 7
Apply for Visa.
This requires intense preparation because you're going to be drilled by the Visa Officers.

Step 8
Pay for your flight and fly.

i do not think there will be any side effect. my school also sent an e-copy to me stating that it will be accepted at the embassy due to the present Covid situation so you can go ahead to ask for one now because it also fastens your process too.

But bro, I’m sure you’d need to explain more and more, because that’s too short. Like, you can also have that said international experience in another country which is not US, like Canada, UK and co.

After or before that your answer up there, why not add HOW USA IS THE HOME OF TECH, which is like the best bet for you. We’ve head1/4s of top tech companies (MicroSoft, Apple, Intel etc) there which might and definitely make intern and research easy for you unlike you schooling and offering the said course in any other country or your country.

Just try make research on that and use your own words to add up on your propose transcript.

Bro, you can actually ask any of your professional boss in your previous work to place to help out, your immediate supervisor; HR and co.
Don’t forget they (the school) said, PROFESSIONAL/ACADEMIC RECOMMENDATIONS.

Personally, I’ve not use anyone of my school lecturer or prof as a recommender, never tried that. Reason? They’re “them being them”, always forming ‘strict’ and/or always being busy.

I only ask my professional bosses, of where I’d my IT, NYSC, Previous work places to help with recommendations, and guess what? It doesn’t take them more than 3days to help out, since I’ve good relationship with them.

Guess what? None of the recommendations have ever been decline. I got 5 Msc admits with them.

It’s even good when you use the 3 referees on your Resume/Cv as also your recommenders.

PS: DON’T WASTE TIME WAITING FOR PROFS!!

Good evening Nairalanders, so I got this GA idea recently and searched on here (sure information bank) and boom, it’s been going on for God knows when.
First off, I have HND (3.05/4.00) and this guy that wants to help me is already in US as a GA and said he will charge me $780 for everything. Lol, while I don’t have that much amount, Omo I’m very skeptical because a lot of questions I asked weren’t cleared well. I know it’s 10 schools in 100 that accept straight masters from HND holders. Also, I writing a professional exam like GRE, TOFEL etal are one the main requirement. He said he will run it, i don't know how people of God. So i have come to seek knowledge from the elders. Is it possible i apply straight masters with hnd? While there are English test waivers, arr there really ways you can bypass this? I no want illegal stuff o.

If you’re not the lazy type, You don’t need to pay anyone for this USA student visa shii. Because it’s way easy than other country, it’s just time and money that it will take. You will even enjoy doing it yourself, because it’s interesting and challenging. Eventually, doing it yourself will definitely help you when you go for VISA INTERVIEW and when you kick off your GRADUATE STUDY in the state.

HND is not a barrier in the USA. All you need is to convert your ND and HND result to USA STANDARD, using some professional bodies, e.g WES and co then apply for schools like other Bsc holder.

HND is not that a barrier !! Don’t pay anymore!!


PS: I’m also an HND Grad. I’ve secure 5 admits for Msc since the start of this ‘journey’ tho, still yet to process going for visa interview.

1. Email the 2 schools, that denied you and RESPECTFULLY ask them the cause/reasons for the denial(s).

2. Look into the reason(s) and work on it/them, against your remaining/next applications.
