J111333: It must be a Nigerian woman with the PhD, na so dem dey borrow borrow student loans dey get useless degrees. One Nigerian nurse working at a military hospital was boasting to a patient that she was doing her PhD in nursing and her much more senior Philipino colleague asked her what was the use of paying for several students loans acquiring degrees when it wouldn't change her salary status at the hospital. She was just opening her mouth anyhow and finally said she enjoyed going to school. That day, I concluded that most Nigerians acquire degrees just for show off. When I tell people M.sc and PhDs are irrelevant in the clinical/Hospital setting, they take my words for granted. |

emperor272: am in this kind of situation sir, currently am a 100l agric extention student in the agric school in the south west...i just dont find it interesting , i feel fustrated , down owing to the fact that i have always wanted to study BDS ...anyway i will be taking the next jamb , because am not just fufilled here and i dont want to spend the rest of my life in regret...please am all opened for advice pls I understand your situation. But, it's better to learn from other peoples experience than yours. I should have concluded my Agric program by now if I didn't despise the course with passion. It's not difficult to pass a course and move on but I was naive and directionless and I regretted because I still couldn't secure admission into Medicine. Who says you can't do well in your current program and still secure your dream's admission?. If you manage your time well, you can have all As in your present program and at same time secure admission into Dentistry; it's having the right mindset that really matters alot. I feel fulfilled getting what I had always wanted and I've in no single day regretted my decision to stay back in School when my mates are now serving their father's land. |

DrOptimistic: So you mean the person must NOT be a graduate of Uniben and it could be graduate of any school, right?
I am actually thinking of converting the certificate after graduation but if I later fall in love with BDS, I might not think of doing it. It means A BDS degree from any recognized university is acceptable for conversion if there's anything as such. I checked my brochure and couldn't find anything like that.. |
Education › Re: 2019/2020 UNIBEN Admission Guide Thread!!! by MrEgghead(m): 5:36am On Aug 02, 2019 |
DrOptimistic: Does Uniben allow the conversion of a BDS certificate to an MBBS certificate upon graduation? If yes, what are procedures to take to make this possible? And must the student be a graduate of Uniben or he could be a graduate of any school? Please I will appreciate if this is given urgent attention. Thanks in anticipation. It involves 18 months clinical rotations in major medical and surgical specialties, afterwards, your BDS will be withdrawn from you and you'll be given MBBS. And you must not be a UNIBEN graduate.. These are all theories to me because I've not met anyone who did it. I bet you wouldn't think of converting after graduation. |

Damolaqq: Hi I applied for Uniben Pharmacy, I had 271 in jamb. I want to know if pharmacy would be accredited this yr due to the current strike in the faculty, and what are my chances of gaining admission into the school I would also like to know how to get the up to- date past questions. Thanks Uniben Pharmacy is not on strike. They called it off a few weeks ago and it has full accreditation. you don't need to worry yourself about anything. |

Health › Re: Doctor Stephen Ijeuwe Collapses, Dies In FMC Yenogoa Over Lack Of Defibrillator by MrEgghead(m): 10:10pm On Jul 27, 2019 |
udomoh: Doctor collapses & dies in FMC Yenogoa because of lack of defibrillator…
The late Dr. Stephen Ijeuwe was a resident doctor @ FMC, Abeokuta.
He suffered a cardiac arrest and died in FMC Yenogoa due to lack of defibrillator.
Being a secretary of ARD Abeokuta, he was in FMC Yenogoa for NARD NEC meeting.
Medical doctor and social media influencer Dr. Olufunmilayo left many people shocked after he narrated the story of how a doctor, Dr. Stephen Ijeuwe, died inside a hospital – According to the story, the doctor suffered a heart attack and collapsed but there was defibrillator to resuscitate –
According to reports, the incident occurred in a Federal Medical Center where the deceased went for NARD meeting.
Dr. Stephen was the Association of Resident Doctors Secretary, Abeokuta branch. Before his death, he was a resident doctor in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta. It is no news that the state of health facilities in Nigeria is in shambles and the story of how a doctor collapsed and eventually died inside a hospital, only seems to remind people how dangerous the implications of not having proper health care facilities really is.
According to Twitter user @DrOlufunmilayo, a doctor recently died after he suffered a cardiac arrest and died inside the hospital after hospital staff could not provide a defibrillator to shock him back to life. He wrote: “A doctor collapsed yesterday inside a hospital. And a whole “Federal Medical Centre” did NOT have a defibrillator (a machine that shocks the heart to revive it) They travelled to GovtHouse Clinic to borrow one. By then, the doctor died. See, human life has NO value in Nigeria.
The National Association of Resident Doctors( NARD) statement on the tragic death
“On behalf of NARD NECOMM, NECOUN and entire resident doctors all over the country, the President Of NARD Dr Olusegun Olaopa (PSO) commiserates with Ijeuwe Family ,ARD FMC Abeokuta and NMA Ogun State on the death of *Dr Stephen Ijeuwe*(Secretary ARD FMC Abeokuta)
*He died while participating actively in the ongoing JULY NEC in Yenagoa*
Until his death, he was a registrar in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology FMC Abeokuta.
Your loss has deeply saddened us but be rest assured that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
Please accept our heartfelt condolences from NARD and May God rest his soul”.
Dr Anthony CHUKWUNONSO UDE Sec Gen NARD 25.07.19.
According to Dr.Olunfunmilayo, “a defibrillator is a basic life saving equipment. It should be like paracetamol or cotton wool in any hospital. Here in the UK, petrol stations, cinemas, football stadiums, games arena, train stations, etc all have a defibrillator. But in Nigeria, an FMC doesn’t have it. Shame. I can’t get my head round it”.
“This is a doctor who collapsed IN A HOSPITAL.
Not outside a hospital.
Yet the most important equipment to save his life was nowhere available.
This hospital has patients on their wards- if anyone collapses- that’s the end too. We are in deep shit.
When people collapse outside hospital, the advice we always give is “rush them to the hospital” If a hospital doesn’t even have something as basic as a defibrillator, how is that an hospital?”
“Nigeria treats human lives with levity and watches its citizens die like chickens.
The shameful part is NO investigation or changes will be made to correct this clear madness.
That same FMC in Bayelsa will still NOT get any defibrillator, it would be a lot of “Eya” and “na wa o”, and life continues till the next person dies”.
“This is a disgraceful country.
I sincerely pray God would console and comfort this young doctor’s family IF it was a sane country- that young doctor, just like millions of Nigerians who die avoidable deaths- could have been saved. Nigeria kills people and only brings tears to their families.
It is saddening.” He said.

Tweak2k: Am in a depressed state and am so ashamed of myself. Currently schooling in a federal university studying computer sci. Seriously I feel really bad to have wasted 5 years without achieving nothing or a degree. Even spill over still wouldn't do no good cause I don't want a 3rd class degree or every worst. Can't take the risk again.[ insult is free i deserve it]
instead of graduating with a shitty degree am thinking of starting all over again from 100lvl to study computer science or anything related in a federal university. 4 years Max
Right now i feel like an abomination and a disgrace to my family. Have tried visiting the HOD's in my school unfortunately, I was informed students from the same school can't switch to same school [Different department] i dont know why i think it's best known to them.
Mind you am in my mid 20s with no achievement or any money making skills.
I have interest in mastering programming or becoming a tech savvy guy or a security expert but i can't. aside the coding aspect physiologically am not balance. Secondly, am limited.. Am very ambitious i need help and opportunities. Am tried of fighting alone/ holding back its eating me up silently... I only smile or engage myself in a social gathering to cover up my pain.
Even if am to start all over again I'll prefer a university that offer a 4 years course I don't know which Federal university one can study comp sci within 4 years.
Please I need advice and help The truth is school is frustrating and tiring.. I need a degree my battle can't be in vain.
I know someone would have pass through my line of sorrow or even worst. Your suggestions, opportunities and help will revive me back...
Regards, I studied Agriculture Economics for five good years and I spilled over. It was because I never wanted it. Currently studying Medicine and Surgery and I'm going to conclude my Agric program very soon; still has five courses to write. The question is what direction are you driving at? No matter how poor your CGPA had been, I'd advise you to finish the program even if it's just ' PASS', then you can take a bold step on whether you want another bachelor's degree or not. |
