Pes13: Looooolz, that is true anyway.
Just like in 2014, a medical student of OAU that I so much respected (You know those few people with reputable and popular monikers) just came on nairaland to claim is little bro scored 94% in UI putme(mbbs). We all believed, and celebrated the young guru.
I was personally flabbergasted and mesmerized because I manage to score 76%.
But the whole lie busted when UI claim the highest Putme score that year was 90%.
When he was confronted, his reply was Na so we see am Funny enough, we don't even know him outside social media, of what use is the falsehood? Even If he really wants to impress someone with lies, atleast he should do that to those that know him very well. |

Liverpoolfc: break failure could cause that. many factors can account for that. R.I.P to the Dead. I could remember vividly when I was travelling back to school in 2016,our driver after dodging a pothole went asleep.Everyone was expecting him to steer back to his own lane but it was only an illusion, he was sleep. A truck was approaching us at full speed, we were terrified. Thank God for the life of a brother who was Sitted beside him, who quickly swerved the car, I couldn't just imagine what would have happened. Almost every faculty in Uniben would have mourned their students because most of us were Uniben students. It's only God that saves though! |

Just admit that u and ur colleagues missed being enriched by the bribery and corruption, runs, nepotism and the extortion in d name of PUTME reg fee that PUTME avails you Its very essential as an intellectual to make proper research before drawing hasty conclusions. For your info, exams were not conducted but students were still mandated to pay for the admission screening fees,so what are you insinuating?. Education › Re: I Scored 283 in JAMB, Can I Get Medicine In Abia State University? by MrEgghead(m): 2:59pm On Mar 24, 2018 |
Delivar: Na wah o. What score will get him medicine then? 399? Sometimes, the way some people on Nairaland makes conclusions amazes me..They forgot the fact that general performance determines whether a particular score is good enough or not. Thus, you must not score 300+ plus to get medicine..performances vary every year. In 2014, due to mass failure, I knew of two Guys who got medicine in Uniben with 220 and 224 but last year a lady with 305 couldn't get medicine in UI. If all boils down on what the guy feels about his score but to me 283 is a good score for any course in a state university. If he's ready to work hard and he's utterly enthusiastic about medicine, he may eventually make medicine with that score but if he's complacent and sceptical, he may not make it at the end. To the guy who said 283 can not get him anywhere near medicine, you need to start applying acumen while analysing situations critically rather that jumping into naive and unpardonable conclusions because it depicts buffoonery and impetuosity. |

How did you know she didn't meet the cut off when modalities for admissions have not been released? I hate assumptions! If she feels her score may not be good enough for medicine, she can choose from some professional courses like pharmacy ,Radiography, physiotherapy, e.t.c . I'll recommend Anatomy and physiology if she still has the intention of crossing to medicine later but if she's not that adamant about medicine, pharmacy, physiotherapy, nursing and probably Dentistry will be a better alternative. |

RoastedCorn: Dear fresh Dental Student,
Just few minutes ago I got a call from a dental student from the university of Nigeria Nnsuka that I met on Nairaland.com who told me he was finding it hard to concentrate his mind on reading because of the many false stereotypes and sheer ignorance on Dentistry. This further goes a long way to affirm how underdeveloped the Nigerian health sector is and how grossly ignoranced Nigerians are. I think many dental students in Nigeria would agree with me that in their early years in the university the comment that they mostly hear from ignorance-drenching individuals on dentistry were things like; "you guys are spending a whole 6 years to study just the teeth" , "why are you guys are just a wannabe medical student" (not knowing the term medical student covers both departments except when a dental student wants to distinguish himself and uses the word 'dental student'), "why are you guys even receiving lectures with medical student?, they study the whole body and you guys do just the teeth". These are only a few mind boggling negative assertions towards dentistry and any dental student would agree with me that educating any other student on dentistry is one of the hardest task you could think of.
Many people have this false stereotype on dentistry that when you try to bring them out of their abyss of ignorance they find it so hard to believe even when you show them facts on google. A senior colleague of mine that just finished his pathology and pharmacology exams and is in the Medicine and surgery class (5th year I'm UNIBEN) told me days ago that his classmates in Medicine who has been in medical school for four years doesn't even know that dental students take Medicine and surgery as a course. Some would even say you're a dentist not a doctor without knowing that this statement is as fallacious as saying you're an opthalmologist not a doctor. Others say it is a boring course treating just the teeth the whole of your life and medicine is the whole body without knowing that even as a medical doctor you'd specialize in an aspect say opthalmology and that means you'd be treating the eyes for the rest of your life. Some say dentistry is not part of NMA, such ignorance; others say dentist collect less pay without knowing the two professions both work on CONMESS which is the standard salary structure of both professions; some others would say dentist don't save lives without knowing most of the accidents involving injury to the head in Nigeria are mostly done by dentist. I would like to stop here for now.
I told him I see myself as a doctor and nothing else that when I finish and I like orthopaedic I might take the MDCN exam to change my BDS to MBBS and specialize in orthopedic an if it is orthodontics that I want to further in I will just still use my BDS because I see myself as a doctor with no limited opportunities. Why can't we be like the Indians that have no disparity between dentistry, medicine, physiotherapy, radiology, nursing and MLS but instead work hard hand-in-hand to provide a better healthcare sector.
I write this because of the new intakes who are finding it hard to settle their mind on dentistry because of negative comments from ignorant minds. I want to tell you that you're unique, you're wonderful, you're a dentist, a surgeon and most importantly a lifesaver, don't give anybody the opportunity to treat you any less, thanks.
Mesogboriwon Adeleye Oriola IADS editorial board member, 300level BDS Benin. Its very disheartening that Some BDS students are oblivious of what their course of study entails. The only difference between medical and Dental Doctors is that the later specialises earlier that the former. |

Several accusations were levelled against the SUG that It incited the students against the management and also to distrupt the convocation ceremony that was due to hold the following day. Following the meeting held by the Senate recently, Five of the SUG Excos who were believed to have championed the protest have been rusticated from the Institution for atleast one year. cc:Lalasticlala,fynestboi,Mynd44

Fifthwave: They have and for the first time in its history we have two UK universities top the list.
1. University of Oxford, United Kingdom 2. University of Cambridge, United Kingdom 3. California Institute of Technology, United States 4. Stanford University, United States 5. Massachusetts Institute of Technology, United States 6. Harvard University, United States 7. Princeton University, United States 8. Imperial College London, United Kingdom 9. University of Chicago 10. ETH Zurich – Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, Switzerland.
And the interesting thing about this ranking is, they are ranked based on the following indices; Teaching, Research, Citations, Industry Income, International Outlook, No. of FTE (full time enrolled) Students, No. of students per staff, International Students, Female:Male Ratio. And the range of programmes offered in each University is taken into consideration. Oga,In south-south, It's the University of Benin and others. |
Education › Re: 89% of Nigerian Universities Fail to Make Top 5,000 in the World - Webometrics by MrEgghead(m): 10:18am On Jan 28, 2018 |
Fifthwave: If our universities are to compete globally, here are my suggestions.
1. Privatise all federal and state Universities, then leave only 6 Federal Universities in all geopolitical zones to remain funded. These 6 government funded universities should include: SW: University of Ibadan SE: University of Nigeria, Nsukka SS: University of Porthacourt NE: University of Maiduguri NW: Ahmadu Bello University NC: University of Abuja Entrance into these FG funded universities should be merit based with fees highly subsidised.
2. Open an accessible Student loan under the Ministry of Education to help fund students in the now inflated tuition rates in the newly privatised universities.
3. Primary and secondary schools should receive more funding. Which is where the foundation lies. Technical Education should be set up and funded to reduce the population seeking admission into university education.
4. Universities should focus on problem solving, high-brow R& which would attract funding from industry and alumni.
With these, our universities would be highly competitive, with a more stable academic calendar, and would attract an international community which also is an index of ranking by Times Higher Education.
This is just a thought, there could be better ways we can handle our falling standard of Education. But believe me, with the current trajectory of Education in Nigeria, it is the Privately owned universities that are competing favourably with universities around the would.
It is time we take Education away from the government. oga,in south-south, It's the University of Benin and others. |
