You've misunderstood me, I wasn't making reference to what I was earning as a civil servant as a comparism to what professionals make, I was using it to reinforce the fact that things have gotten a lot worse in Nigeria over a short period of time. If I was still a civil servant in Nigeria even with career growth, I wouldn't have been able to purchase those tickets as comfortably as I did 10 years ago.

Secondly my reference to the NDIC statistic is to buttress the point that we are not as wealthy as we always claim in the net. Everyone is quoting that they know 1 person or the other earning a lot. Available statistics don't back up all the noise!
Apologies if I earlier misconstrued your submission.

However, at the bolded, you can't call it noise. People can talk based on their earnings. Someone making 1 million per month will have a different perspective of Nigeria compared to someone making 100k.

People can only talk based on their situation. It's not a noise, it's their narratives of their realities.

Everybody dey form big man for Internet! I earn this! I earn that! But 99.4% of bank accounts in Nigeria have less than 500k in them. No be me talk am o, na NDIC! If you have the opportunity, make una commot from Nigeria. Exactly 10years ago, my wife was schooling in the UK and I was a civil servant earning about 150k oer month. I comfortably paid her flight ticket to come for holiday and intro then , it cost about 150k naira. 10 years down the line, the cheapest ticket is over 1.2m and the salary increase is not commensurate despite advancement in career. Imagine what it would be like in another 10 years, and Nigeria don't seem to be getting better.

Make una dey dey strategic in una thinking!
Everywhere in the world, Civil servants do not get paid fantastic salaries.

We are talking of seasoned professionals here.

In that same Nigeria you were earning 150k Naira per month , some younger dudes are earning 2 Million Naira per month.

Will you agree with me that your narratives about Nigeria will be different? cheesy cheesy

Stop being ignorant, I work in a multinational bank (Head Office) and earn well above 1m monthly, then you can just imagine what the big guys in higher level earn (DM and above). Except you only associate with contract staff who earn really low. My husband works in tech and earn 7000 USD monthly, you need to associate with young people doing well in their career. I even have a friend who works in oil and gas and earns 70 000 USD yearly as bonus, excluding his salary. The day i saw his bank statement when I was helping him in his visa application, I was surprised. We are all in our early 30's.
Do not mind these people.

Lot of them do not have professionals as associates in Nigeria, so they simply do not understand it.

I have seen the two worlds and I can boldly say that the only way a seasoned professional should migrate abroad is only either through marriage (joining his or her partners) or if he gets work that pays way higher than what he is currently earning in Nigeria. Any other route will lead to unstoppable tears.

So 2 million naira is what should stop someone from leaving Nigeria

Lmaooo
For your hilarious mind, you have converted what you are earning in the UK or US to naira and feel you are better off than someone earning 2 million naira per month in Nigeria.

He has less bills to pay, which means he can save more.

You have more bills to pay, which means you can save less.

Western world is more expensive to live than Nigeria.

Each country pays according to the country's inflationary rate. If UK or US for instance pays Nigeria's wages, it will not be enough for their employees, and if UK or US salary is paid in Nigeria, inflation will finish Nigeria totally.

Actually it works that way for some. I know a few people who've paid cash for brand new cars. Even houses.

By the way, "when Nigeria was good", buying car on "hire purchase" was common. So it seems the availability of credit is actually a sign of a good economy. Credit is given when employment rates are high, people tend to borrow when interest rates are low. Enough said, use your tongue to count your teeth.

The usual payment period for a new car in the USA is 5 years. Not bad at all, a car at that level with a 15% down payment is likely ≈ $600 per month. Not a big problem for a nurse earning at least $32/hr. How many Nigerians earn $600/mo or ₦800K/mo? The husband is lucky she didn't decide to send the money home to Nigeria.

That house behind them is likely on payment too. In 30 years it will be paid off and the value would have risen by a huge amount during that time. In my area houses bought in 1994 have tripled in value.

The real comparative for those of you who continually denigrate Nigerians abroad - what percentage of 50 year old university graduates in Nigeria own a car ? How many own a luxury car?

How many 50 year olds university graduates in Nigeria own the home from which they go to work every day? How many own a home of similar quality or better than the one pictured? Looking at that picture the neighborhood is as good as VGC Lagos.

I've written many times that I want some recent home ownership data for Nigeria. The data I know dating back to 2011 was that 80% of urban families in Nigeria were renters. I can count many, many 50 year olds working in Nigerian cities that are renting. I know many 50 year olds in Nigeria who are majorly dependent on diaspora remittances to maintain their living standards.

Oga MT we're enjoying ourselves here. It's a wonderful life. That's the reality. Try and be happy for us. grin Wetin we do you sefhuh

God Bless this lady and her husband and family.

God Bless the USA & UK

Good Luck to Nigerians.
Oga @IbeOkehie, I am part of you too.

However there is a need to let folks back home understand that buying houses and cars abroad is different from Nigeria's perspectives.

When Nigerian says I have a house, 98% of the time, he has full ownership but not so in the western world. The person cannot claim full ownership as it is mortgaged - he will stiill paying certain amount each month.

Same applies to car. In Nigeria, 98% of the time, Nigeria owns it outrightly. It is not so in the Western world as you need to be paying certain amount each month - if you default in payment, the car will be reclaimed back.

So, there is a need to educate folks back home how it works so they wont think they will come to the western world, work, pay full amount of Mercedez benz outrightly and take full ownership. It will help them manage their expectations.

US-based Nigerian Nurse Gifts Her Husband Who Brought Her To America A Brand New Mercedes Benz On His 50th Birthday.
Nice gesture but know that she will be paying monthly on that car as it is highly probably financed.

So don't think you will gather money, pay in full, once in the US, to buy Mercedes benz. It doesn't work that way.

That would be wrong expectation.

People just talk shit about what they don't Know.

Do you know a lot of those sick persons attend healing school for weeks or even months, where their faith is build and strengthened? Faith cometh by hearing and by hearing the word of God. A canal mind will always think otherwise but you can't tempt God or Jesus, if you have faith, then your faith shall make you whole...don't argue what you don't know.
The bible says - you only need faith as small as a mustard seed to tell this mountain to move and it will move.

For a mere fact you even come to church hoping to be healed, that faith is bigger than a mustard seed already. That is enough on its own.

It is not until you have faith that is as big as a mountain.

First, the guy I replied to called God a scam.

I hope he reads my replies.

As for Pastor Chris, Our Lord Jesus Christ raised people from the dead and promised us (Christians) that we would do greater things after His death.

The pastor can only intercede for people who are already dead or at the point of death. But then, God has the final say in such situations because He has the power over life and death, not the pastor. Hence, my Bible quote.
The bible is clear on "death".

The bible says "It is appointed unto man to die ONCE, after this the judgement".

What other explanation do you require? That is emphasis! Stop spinning the bible to align with your narratives.

The Government of Zimbabwe has expelled American officials from the country - the US State Department is very upset (https://www.state.gov/government-of-zimbabwe-forcibly-removed-usaid-democracy-human-rights-and-governance-assessment-team/) about it.

In Zimbabwe authorities deported a mission from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) from the country. The State Department complained that their representatives in the African country were interrogated, transported at night, and "even" intimidated, after which they were thrown out of the country. In other words, they were not treated as white people in a colony.

In response, Washington "threatened" to work on building an "inclusive democratic society" in Zimbabwe, adding that the country deserves better. Like they care about what the people of Zimbabwe really want.

According to the State Department, the USAID mission, created to "support democracy development," was involved in assessing "Zimbabwe's development and governance."

The real goal of the Americans, however, may be quite different. Recently, Zimbabwe has been trying to fight Western colonialism, imposing a ban on the export of raw lithium used in defense and battery production. The country ranks among the world leaders in lithium reserves.

Surely, it is the interests in lithium exploitation that concern the United States, not the work on developing an "inclusive democratic society."
Why you reason like this will always be a mystery.

We are discussing about war, you are talking about diplomatic rift.

It was the right of the Zimbabwe Government to expel whoever they do not want from their soil. How does that relate to what we are discussing. Zimbabwe is a sovereign nation.

Niger Republic expelled France from their soil, does that mean Niger has more military force than France.

The expulsion you are reading has nothing to do with military might, it was a diplomatic process.

It is disheartening sharing a space with your likes. Even a toddler wont argue like this in a public domain.

They express love when you are still afar.

It is a different ball game when you start to be in each others space. She might tell him after a month of arrival into the US that she is bored of the relationship and so he needs to go back to his country.

It ends there and you are stuck.

This is the major reason why most people join the US military - it is another pathway to citizenship, if you are lucky.

Nigeria has been a poor nation over the past 30-35 years but APC came and make it worse that most households cannot afford 3 square meal daily. Only in Africa, Nigeria doesn't come close to top 10 nations with decent minimum wage, while your corrupt leaders are one of the highest paid politicians in the world.

Like i told you, US has food banks for the few vulnerable ones to eat freely without knowing anyone or belonging to a political party.

but in Nigeria we have many. At least 80% of Nigerians cannot afford 3 square meal daily nor have the means to buy a bag of rice that is less than $55. In America they have food banks for those who cannot afford to feed. It's total free and they do not have to belong to a political party or know someone before they could have access to it.
