Illegal tapping of electricity is widespread in poor areas of Indian cites to d knowledge of the govt, but politicians turn a blind eye to it because they fear a backlash during election by the poor engaged in it. (Note that d electorate decides elections there, not rigging ). BBC did a documentary on this a few years ago. So d phenomena is not peculiar to Lagos or nigeria. |

omosexy1: So what is this suppose to mean? Then why did she flee the scene of incident if her vehicle was stationary and not moving? If she was driving recklessly and they were trying to catch up with her and in the process, the LASTMA officer was hit by a bus, she is then responsible for the death of the LASTMA officer. Actually, that is what driving against traffic (one way) leads to. Because you must be insane to be driving against traffic. It is a suicide mission and also endangers the lives of other drivers. While I still feel sorry for her and her family, I consider that she must be literate enough to know that she had committed an offense/crime, stay cool and get the booking. Rather than flee the crime scene. Running away from a crime scene would only get you to commit another crime. Her actions led to the death of the LASTMA officers whether is was her vehicle or some other person's vehicle.
We all need to be careful, respect traffic rules and learn from this. If she drove against d traffic she should be sanctioned for that, not for an offence she did not commit. We should be very careful when it comes to believing public officials in Nigeria. LASTMA may well b trying to pin the crime on d woman, just like d police do frequently because of laziness or mischief: they will either not conduct thorough investigation or arrest an innocent person and demand for bribe, if u dont give them u are paraded on TV and charged. People dont know that the eyewitness account is very crucial in any criminal prosecution, and d gentleman's account has created a big doubt on d account of the incident given by LASTMA and apparently believed by many as evidenced by posters here. By d way, fleeing from scene of crime is not evidence of guilt in nigerian law. In fact, it's wise to get away from a crime scene otherwise u may get charged for it!!! |

It is this kind of unprofessional behaviour on d part of soldiers (and police) that has pushed people we call Boko Haram into unrepented violence. Boko haram started 2001 and up till 2009 were not involved in any form of violence. 8-9 years no violence - they were just preaching and drawing larging following from the poverty-stricken masses, and also had some kind of social welfare scheme. Now, why hav they turned to violence? Police and army are to blame. In 2009 Mohammed yusuf (late boko haram leader, killed by police)fell out with former Borno state governor(SAS) and SAS started using police to attack & kill large numbers of ertswhile peacefull BH with whom he had been hobnobbing for political gain. In responce, BH also acquired arms and the violence began. Most of BH attacks ar against security forces, which they see as avenging the killing of their members. They hav now added churhes as targets. Analysts believe that their aim is to provoke christians to start attacking muslims in retaliation so that we hav a full scale religious war in nigeria. It's clear from his Yuotube videos that Shekau (BH leader) is a hardliner & mayb also his lieutenants. But they can change. D country is now faced with d choice of either to use force or dialogue with BH. May God help nigeria out of this delicate situation. |

The Money-changers on AUGUST 12, 2012 · in ARTICLE OF FAITH 1:31 am By Femi Aribisala
God forbid that where two or three are gathered in the name of Jesus, an offering should not be collected.
To be a successful pastor, you really have to learn the tricks of the trade. This has nothing to do with preaching insightful and inspiring messages. Neither does it have to do with ministering to the spiritual needs of the members of the church. The pastor succeeds or fails according to his ability to pull a crowd and extort as much money as possible from his congregation. If he fails in these vital areas, he is not likely to survive for long as a pastor.
The technique is simple but effective. You tell your congregants that for every naira they give, they will get a hundredfold return. Even those in debt are encouraged to get out of debt by giving out of their indebtedness.
Pastor Paula White of Without Walls International Church, Tampa, Florida (U.S.A.) is a master practitioner of this money-grubbing technique. In one of her television broadcasts, she asked her audience to open their bibles to Psalm 66, verse 12. This reads: “Through the fire, through the water, God brought us out into a wealthy place.” Then she said: “God says he wants you to sow sixty-six dollars and twelve cents. Or you can sow six thousand, six hundred and twelve dollars.”
Money activator
These are the voices of strangers who make merchandise of men by peddling the word of God. Peter says: “These teachers in their greed will tell you anything to get hold of your money.” (2 Peter 2:3). Indeed, pastors tell Christians that money operates like a “gel activator.” The promises of God proclaimed in our messages are sealed until a “seed offering” is given to activate it. Therefore, you are likely to see different members of our congregation suddenly get up in the middle of our sermons to throw money at our feet. One pastor put it very succinctly. He said: “Anointing without money is equal to annoyance.”
This makes the offering-time the focal point of our services. Here, the pastoral imagination has run wild. Just give the offering a highfalutin name and it becomes the commandment of God. In those days when I attended part-time Zoe Ministries Worldwide in Victoria Island, Lagos; three offerings were collected in every service: one for “the Father;” another for “the Son;” and yet another for “the Holy Spirit.”
In one parish of Redeemed Church, the pastor counselled the poor: “If you don’t have an offering, borrow from your neighbour.” Never mind that the promise of God says the believer shall lend to many nations but shall not borrow. (Deuteronomy 15:6).
Even though Jesus says when we give, our right hand should not know what our left hand is doing (Matthew 6:3); some pastors insist offerings must be held up for all to see, in the attempt to embarrass those not inclined to give, or those inclined to offer notes in the smaller currency denominations. In the branch of Zoe Ministries I attended, the pastor proscribed altogether the giving of offerings in the smaller currency notes. “My God is not a poor God,” he declared.
One popular convention requires everybody to march forward, one by one, to drop their offerings on a tray placed strategically in front of the pastor; so we can observe exactly how much they are giving and thereby intimidate them into giving more than they would like to. It also serves to embarrass those who cannot give and stay behind.
At other times, we constrain our members to make public vows and pledges. One of my former pastors used to say: “Pledge more than you have; stretch your faith.” When the time comes to redeem the pledge, we will hit you with Ecclesiastes 5:4-6 which says if you make a vow and don’t redeem it God will destroy the work of your hands.
Blessing time
One technique is to take the offering early in order to ensure people don’t leave before the money can be taken from them. But sometimes this strategy backfires. In one of the services I attended at Pentecostal Assembly, the pastor noticed that some of the wealthier church-members came in after the offering had been collected. So he insisted it should be collected again. The reason he gave was a classic. He said: “I don’t want anybody here to be denied the blessings of the day.” Of course, God only blesses during offering times.
Yetunde Olanrewaju came up with what I presume is a parable. She said one day, a swarm of bees descended on a church while a service was in session. The people panicked and started running out of the building. But the Pastor was up in arms. “Wait, wait, please wait,” he pleaded to no avail. “We haven’t yet collected the offering.” God forbid that where two or three are gathered in the name of Jesus, an offering should not be collected.
Charlene Animashaun was head of the money-counters in her parish. While the offering was still being counted, the new pastor sent someone to collect a certain amount of the money. Charlene sent word back that the count had yet to be completed. The procedure was to document the amount and then lodge it in the bank. That way, any withdrawals would have a paper-trail.
But the new Pastor would not be denied. He barged into to the counting-room and kicked up a fuss. He reminded all and sundry he was now the pastor. What the pastor demands, the pastor gets; no questions asked. He grabbed the money with the stern warning that his authority should never be challenged again. Charlene got the message and quietly resigned her position as head of the money-counters. She has since resigned from the church itself.
It is an open secret that pastors are not accountable for the monies we routinely collect. Christians simply leave the policing to God, thereby giving us a free hand to be as honest or dishonest as our conscience permits. This ensures that financial impropriety is widespread in churches and Christian ministries, but buried under the carpet.
Soul traders
The plan was to have many churches in Victoria Island, Lagos gather on a Sunday morning and go “prayer-walking,” under the aegis of the zonal Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria. We would walk around the streets and claim them spiritually for Jesus. But there was a logistical problem. If we would not have services in our churches that Sunday, we would not be able to collect the offering.
Somebody finally came up with a solution. We would meet briefly in our churches for the sole purpose of collecting the offering, and then assemble as planned. But then another problem arose. What would happen to those we convert to Christianity on the way? Which churches would they be asked to attend? Here again, a genius came up with the solution. “At the end of the exercise,” she said, “we will seat down and share the souls.”
“Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! For in one hour your judgment has come. And the merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her, for no one buys their merchandise anymore: merchandise of gold and silver,.. horses and chariots, and bodies and souls of men.” (Revelation 18:10-13). Virtually all d churches in dis country are involved in dis business of ruthless Sunday money collection to d point that Sunday services ar no more than weekly money-collection days for the pastors. These guys call themselves "men of God" but are in fact "men of money". Can anybody tell me whether Jesus took money from his followers and kept it to cater for an extravagant lifestyle? |

dedeike: Our problem is that we keep trading blames without facing the real issues. All these pastor turned political advicers have never offered a single practical solution to the security challenges facing us as a nation. This particular pastor of an unlimited church, whatever that means, said GEJ should have a lion heart and declare Nigeria as a war state. How will such declaration end Boko Haram? The way some people talk, it just appears as if BOKO HARAM is just one rabbit that you will diligently pursue and capture. Some people also think BH to be a definite group of people resident somewhere, which govt has been afraid to confront.
The truth is that Boko Haram is an orientation. Anybody can be a Boko Haramite in his own little environment once he catches that orientation. And the orientation is more deadly because it makes the person believe that he has nothing to loose. The most difficult warfare is against anybody who has nothing to loose.
In other conventional crimes like stealing, murder, armed robbery, rape etc the perpetrator proceeds with the intention of surviving at the end of the day. This is the insecurity facing other nations and the police can tackle it. But not a situation whereby somebody goes out to buy gas, cable wires and assembles them in a room. He stays awake all night improvising an explosive. Next morning, he places it in his car boot and heads for the nearest public place. When he gets to his destination, he rams his car into the building killing himself and otthers in the process.
It's hard to detect such crimes even in the most sophisticated of places. It's akin to preventing someone from committing suicide. In Colorado, we saw how a disoriented youth shot so many people in a cinema for no just reason. In Maidugri, we saw a 15 year old commit suicide bombing in a mosque.
How would anyone have thought that the little boy who just walked bye, had bombs strapped under his kaftan, and was willfully walking to explode himself? I'm sure that he must have passed security men unnoticed in the midst of other worshippers. If this pastor was a security man deployed to that mosque, it will not have crossed his mind too to stop that boy.
To stop this menace, we should prevail on Muslim clerics and northern leaders to reorient their subjects. Somebody needs to tell them that Islam is a religion of peace. They need to be told that even in UAE, tourists " infidels" operate freely. They need to be reminded that there's nothing like suicide bombings in the world's most populous Islamic state-Indoneia. They should expose their brothers who engage in this heinous crimes rather than see them as martyrs. Northern leaders should condemn these attacks in unmistakable terms rather than play politics with it. It may be serving their interest now but the reality will dawn on them in 2015 when southerners refuse to vote for any northerner on account of Boko Haram. Thanks for ur thoght-provoking post. These pastor-turned politician is worse than professional politicians. See how he has distorted facts by saying CAN has been restraining christians. That's a deliberate lie from a typical Nigerian "man of God". In kaduna both christians & muslims, mostly youths, hav been involved in senseless killing of innocent people since the 1980s.The most recent killings happens to hav been one-side involving mainly christians killing anybody ,including travellers passing through kaduna, who look like a muslim. In the madness many fellow christians were mistaken for muslims and killed. So retaliatory killing is counter-productive.GEJ should approach the issue of violence sensibly. |

Wizeboy: The more you talk the more you show how ignorant you are, I ask you so many question in my last post, but you refuse to answer any of the questions ask, instead you jump on another false and erroneous conclusion. I believe you dont really know what you are saying. I told you not to abuse the prophet but you refuse and start saying nonsense to the prophet which your Bible even confirm.
Now I want you to clarify some of your Bible verses for me. If you didnt clarify this Bible verse this time around, I will assume you are confused and dont know what you are saying (and I will end this discussion here without replying you again).
YOUR BIBLE CONFIRM THE COMING OF PROPHET MUHAMMED
Read the following Bible verse which Jesus said and answer a simple question that follow:
John 14:16 "And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever"
John 15:26 "But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, [even] the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me"
John 14:26 "But the Comforter, [which is] the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you."
John 16:7-14 "Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew [it] unto you."
1. Who is the Comforter being referred to by JESUS 2. he will guide you into all truth; for he shall not speak of himself but what he shall hear (that) shall he speak and he will shew you things to come (Can you deny the fact now that Prophet Muhammed is been sent by it was confirmed by JESUS).
JESUS said he will guide you into all truth (Who is he really referring to?):
In the above verses Jesus (peace be upon him) is quoted as saying "I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth." What does Jesus (peace be upon him) mean by "ye cannot bear them now"? If we were to read the Bible, we would find many verses throughout the Bible wherein Jesus (peace be upon him) bemoans the lack of understanding he was constantly greeted with from his disciples throughout his ministry:
"And he(Jesus) saith unto them(the disciples).....O ye of little faith." (Matthew 8:26)
"...and (Jesus) said unto him(Peter), O thou of little faith." (Matthew 14:31)
"he (Jesus) said unto them(the disciples), O ye of little faith." (Matthew 16:
"And he(Jesus) said unto them(the disciples), Where is your faith?" (Luke 8:25)
Notice that these are not common Jews who he is saying these words to, but his own elect disciples. The Bible vividly illustrates how he is constantly going out of his way to simplify matters for them and to speak to them as one speaks to little children. However, even at that, they still misunderstand. He is finally driven to frustration and made to say:
"And Jesus said, Are ye even yet without understanding?" (Matthew 15:16)
and "And Jesus answering said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and suffer you?" (Luke 9:41)
HE SHALL NOT SPEAK OF HIMSELF
"For he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak:" This too is an interesting statement. It reminds us of the verses of Deuteronomy 18:18-19
" I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. And it shall come to pass, [that] whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require [it] of him." (Deuteronomy 18:18-19)
It is also interesting to read the words of the Qur'an: "Nor does he (Muhammad) speak of his own desire. It is but an Inspiration that is inspired [unto him]" (The noble Qur'an, Al-Najm(53):3-4)
Let me conclude this section with the following quotation from the Gospel of John:
"These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended. They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service. And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me. But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you. But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou? But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart. Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you[i][/i]; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew [it] unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew [it] unto you." (John 16:1-15)
YOUR RELIGION REFUSE TO FOLLOW GOD'S WORD
"Isaiah 65:3 They keep making me angry by sneering at me, while offering sacrifices to idols in gardens and burning incense to them on bricks. (4)They spend their nights hiding in burial caves; they eat the meat of pigs, cooked in sauces made of stuff unfit to eat. (5) And then they say to others, "Don't come near us! We're dedicated to God." Such people are like smoke, irritating my nose all day." (CEV Bible, Isaiah 65:3-5)
Here we see that the pork eaters are so detested by GOD Almighty that He likened them to smoke irritating His Nose all day. This is a very powerful statement regarding eating pork and how detestable it is to GOD Almighty in the Bible. Read further in this chapter:
"12 Your luck will end! I will see to it that you are slaughtered with swords. You refused to answer when I called out; you paid no attention to my instructions. Instead, you did what I hated, knowing it was wrong." (CEV Bible, Isaiah 65:12)
Again, here we see GOD Almighty supposedly affirming that eating pig's meat is something he hates. We further read in this chapter:
"15I, the LORD God, promise to see that you are killed and that my chosen servants use your names as curse words. But I will give new names to my servants. 16I am God! I can be trusted. Your past troubles are gone; I no longer think of them. When you pray for someone to receive a blessing, or when you make a promise, you must do it in my name. I alone am the God who can be trusted." (CEV Bible, Isaiah 65:15-16)
Christians pray to Jesus and seek Jesus, a mere creation of GOD Almighty, for blessings, forgiveness, guidance and mercy. Yet, Isaiah 65:16 strictly prohibits this. (Did you abide by this rule?)
The Bible's overwhelming corruption, even according to it's own theologians!
The Bible's books and gospels, according to its own translators and theologians, were 1. Written by mysterious men. 2. Written by an unknown number of men. 3. Written in unknown places. 4. Written in unknown dates. 5. Paul never even met Jesus Christ in person while the latter was on earth. It is falsely claimed that Jesus appeared to Paul while Paul was on his way to Damascus after the "crucifixion" (Acts 9:2-4. Note: Paul's name used to be Saul. Yet, Paul admittedly wasn't even sure whether the Holy Spirit was inspirning him or not). 6. None of the disciples, even in the false writings attributed to them, ever claimed that their writings were inspired or Divine. Not only that, but we even ironically see that: Luke for instance, wrote his "gospel" for the sake of another person and not GOD Almighty. See below for details. The disciples even fought with each others We read about direct invitations to dinner and other occasions between the disciples in the "books" [1]. According to the commentaries below, all of the books of the bible were altered and corrupted. The Bible's own theologians even admit that the bible contains "fictions", its original manuscripts "had been lost", and contains "fairy tails and fables".
And, it is also an indisputable fact that the Bible: Is filled with ample contradictions, man's alterations, corruption, and false scientific absurdities. Is written in third-party narrations, which is why we find in all of the gospels' titles "This gospel according to....", and countless verses that speak about the disciples and about their activities in third-party narrations, which proves that the books and gospels were certainly not written by them.
This also means that much gossips and exaggerations and fabrications were made up and inserted into the books and gospels. So even if, for instance, some people back then thought that Jesus was crucified, they in reality never actually saw it. It could very well be that they've only heard about it from a neighboring town and believed it. There are certainly in the books and gospels: Too much gossips. Too wide of date gaps by the decades between when the supposed event took place and when it was actually written, by hand, in the corrupt gospels. Too many unknown people wrote the stories. Too many Prophecies in the Old Testament that promise that Jesus Christ, the Messiah, will be saved from the crucifixion. Too many mistranslations and desperate misinterpretations in Isaiah 53 and elsewhere. This also means that the books and gospels were definitely not inspired by GOD Almighty. Paul, again, even admits that he had his delusions and doubts.
Again, Allah Almighty Said in the Glorious Quran: "Then woe to those who write the Book with their own hands, and then say: "This is from God," to traffic with it for miserable price!- Woe to them for what their hands do write, and for the gain they make thereby. (The Noble Quran, 2:79)"

On a final point, you could see that throughout my analysis, I didnt in anyway abuse ISA (JESUS) as we believe is one of our prophet and I will like you maintain that tempo, after reading this and you want to reply me. Please take note that I will only reply to your next comment if only:
1. You answer some questions which I ask you in this comment 2. Make your comment without abusing any prophet 3. And be more polite in your analysis, if not, I wouldnt reply your comment again. The Bible they are reading today is the revised standard version; men hav revised supposed word of God!The Bible was revised - no controversy. So, the Bible of today is not the bible in use before the revision. Now, which is the "word of God" since the former version has been changed and the RSV contain new additions? If the RSV is the "word of God", then what Christians were reading before the RSV was word of man. U can see why many of what u read in the bible today is suspect and u should not be surprised if the RSV is again altered so that u may hav "New Revised Standard Version". Fact is:the Bible contains lots of word of man being palmed of as from God. |

(Did you abide by this rule?)

noblezone: Its not only the issue of tradition, Islam has a way of turning violence @ the end of the day.
Also, we need to sit down and look critically into the teachings of both Christianity and Islam.
Eg: christianity teaches forgiveness even to the extent of turning the other cheeck rather than revenge, islam on the other hand teaches an eye for eye as patterned in the time of Moses.
So, will Igbo moslems practice sharia? and were will they practice it?
It is time Christians rise up to the occasion and preserve our faith for our children. "An eye for an eye". Is that from the Quran or Bible? Both Islam & Christianity preach forgiveness, but some followers of the two religions are involved in violence across the globe.E.g American Christians are sending drones to kill innocent men and woman in Pakistan, the same way boko haram is engaged in killing innocent people in Nigeria. |
