^^^ I heard that Technical guys in higher institutions (I've forgotten their union) et al are on strike. It's nationwide. |
I still insist that the channels Tv presenters were unprofessional about the whole issue. They asked him the website first and he couldn't get it. They kept on pestering him for the website in a way to make mockery of him and embarrass him. Note the part the presenter asked a rhetorical question "So there is more than one website for nscdc?" Everyone knows organisations usually have one website. But still, I'll blame shem also for not being smart enuff to intelligently decline to give an answer to a question or not being honest enuff to say he didn't have the answers or infact not knowing the website of an organisation he works in. In conclusion, nobody is above mistakes.
"PROFESSIONALISM noun(uncountable) 1. The status, methods, character or standards expected of a professional or of a professional organization, such as reliability, discretion, evenhandedness, and fair play. 2. The use of professionals rather than amateurs in any sport etc." "PROFESSIONAL noun(plural professionals) 1. A person who belongs to a profession 2. A person who earns his living from a specified activity 3. An expert. adjective 1. Of, pertaining to, or in accordance with the (usually high) standards of a profession. 2. That is carried out for money, especially as a livelihood. 3. (by extension) Expert." This part of unprofessionalism, I don't get. Nigerians blasted those journalists at the presidential chat. Even D'banj who's not a journalist was lambasted for nodding his head to every GEJ's 'agama' dance. These guys anchor the show every weekday. I don't see how they forced him into saying all he said. He even shut them down with "wait, wait" and you said they made mockery of him. Even journalists who are 'forward', if you know what you're saying, you'll handle them and control the conversational flow. Journalists are meant to seek information, that's what makes them different from rumor mongers. They CLARIFY things which is why they ask questions!!! |
baba dey: Channels tv should be happy now. The black guy amongst them(presenter) once interviewed IBB, when he ask him something pertaining to 'Nigerians not forgiving him,for june 12 saga',do you know what he said?.. He (IBB)said, I don't know why nigerians are so senseless that they can't forget the past and move on. My guy(presenter) kept mute couldn't correct him for that rubbish on a tv but instead pick on oga shemIBB is an ex-president. What ever he said as an individual, he can only be held to account for his time as president of the country, meaning as president, that position was a service to the citizens. Like Mr. Shem, he was in a position of stewardship. He was speaking there as an individual. Who told you those against his presidential ambition were not ready to quote his words at this interview against him? |
If successful companies and institutions were built on sentiments, they wouldn't have got to the apex of success. I've read so many analyses on this issue but whilst we can't force opinions on each other, I still belong to the school of thought that Mr. Shem messed up his organization big time! Blame my business background but sincerely writing, my objective and unbiased assessment of the show was the Value For Money he gave not to the public. There are 2 cases that come to mind - a US journalist was mocked for asking silly questions (had Mo'Farah run before she asked) when she interviewed Mo' Farah (Britain's Olympian). She didn't know he was an Olympian because she did not do her homework before she went out. Mo later defended La Tonya for the MISTAKE. The second is IBM sparing an employee for costing the organisation $600,000. Tom Watson said, "No, I just spent $600,000 training him. Why would I want somebody to hire his experience?" [https://www.nairaland.com/1242514/should-employee-fired-mistake] We all make mistakes, we are not perfect but in performance management, merit takes over sentiments. Mr. Shem is a public officer. Those who get to the post where he was don't get there by just jumping there - they earn it. In light of the fake recruitment websites cloning NSCDC as an organisation, this must have been a problem to the NSCDC. This means it must have been brought to the attention of the top hierarchy of the NSCDC. When you visit the Job board here on NL, you can't but pity those who have been duped by fraudsters. When others tell them a recruiter is fake, they pray for such a person. Some, even reveal that they had already parted with their money and bought new shoes and clothes for some phantom interview/tests. Are we thinking about how NSCDC is losing money to fraudsters? Are we thinking of those stakeholders who really wanted NSCDC to clarify things? This is no small issue you can wave with the hand. Fraudsters are also stepping up their game. Mr. Shem needn't be a PRO to know the AUTHENTIC website of NSCDC. However, where I would've been sentimental is if he did not insist on his 'gra gra' with the journalists - I also don't see how the journalists forced him to say all he said. Keywords - humility and pride. Ignorance and arrogance is a terrible mix - Mr. Shem poured these into his cup. Leadership is not easy but there's a reason why the cap is given to those it fits the most. Lessons can be learnt from all and sundry - if a greater % of Nigerians took their jobs seriously, we won't be where we are now. "Follow excellence and success will chase you pants down!"© |
Land cannot be counted but measured. At least, "how to buy land in Lagos" would have done it |
gunpoint: Haba!!!! I don tire to write cv sef! 2dy dem go say put dis, e go get u d job, 2mrw dem go say remov dat same tin wey u put ystrdy say na hin mak u no get jobThis is the more reason why generic CVs are discouraged. Better to tailor the CV to each job advert. I don't agree with everything in the OP's list though especially the OBJECTIVES part. Moreover, the OP's list is coming from different 'authors' hence, different cultures. You simply cannot have a perfect CV as what one HR will like in your CV, another won't. Getting a job is indeed a job, the deal is to draft something sensible and apply - like Mr. Wenger will say, take "the positives" from every school of tthought that advocates the dos and don'ts of CV drafting. |
Food for thought. All the same, not every CEO can afford to do so. |

Definitely!!! You should have read the previous pages. Even without the finance background, you can DIY with self-study. PM me, I can send you link for the materials too. Try applying for the CFA scholarship, the exam fees reduces to about NGN40,000. |
I must say it's an individual thing caressed by family orientation. The day I learnt not to raise my hand on a girl (woman) as a kid, that day left lasting impressions on 'handling women'. The logic is difficult to comprehend - you love your rib, yet you can't avoid stabbing yourself. The orientation in this part of the world and some other parts build the men's ego that it's difficult to let go of one's anger. Some also never had sisters or the sought, so relating with their spouses without resorting to hitting the square button in their mortal kombat state-of-mind seems to be a problem. However, I personally see that not as an excuse, more like 'inferiority complex'. |
PurestBoy: Why post it on front page if u don't want people to comment? If there's something you're not hiding abt ur religion u should be able to accept critics and the best u can do is to prove and show them the truth no mata how many times they've erred. Many of us have negative knowledge about Islam and its ur duty to expose us to the real deal if truly Islam is a religion of peace. *pls don't hide my comment*There's a huge difference between constructive criticisms and derailments - the latter however reigns supreme on NL. |
LeJeun3:Like, seriously ![]() In a country where criminals send letters of 'operation rob your banks/houses' to banks/residents and they fulfill their promises, tell me what reportage does? In one instance, you choose to support what the papers say, in another, you want it discarded - that's sample selection bias man. See, there's a limit to what citizens can do. If the fundamental duty of any government to protect her citizens is not lived up to, anarchy reigns. Stop pushing the blame to the wrong place(s). Perhaps the point needs to be re-emphasized for your reading - your correlation of the Islam community (the phantom creation of yours) condoning BH boys and their activities id a type II error. |
LeJeun3:Stop talking nonsense jare. Where you in another country when Islamic clerics who spoke openly against BH( and its claim to be islamic) were killed frequently in the north? If you want to know read papers circa 2009. It's the same way someone righlty asked, are we supposed to stop the bomb or airport attacks? Those are the functions of security agencies!!! |
Maclatunji continues if a woman refuses her husband intimacy, she can be beaten up,for leaving the house and other acts of "disobedience" kai A religion that condones spousal abuse?
^^^ The verse you mention has been greatly misconceived by many people who focus merely on its surface meaning, taking it to allow wife beating. When the setting is not taken into account, it isolates the words in a way that distorts or falsifies the original meaning.Source Which woman will not do 'odoeshi' for this kain 'beating'? ![]() |
Good thing the lawmakers raised this issue in the house cos as it was rightly said, without caution other banks will 'Ctrl+C' First Bank. I don't even bother about SMS - opted out of the service. Sending to my mailbox is cost effective ![]() |
And another woman, David-West was yesterday kidnapped in Akure. Strange how Akure has now been a target. |
Oh! Journalism. |
Stifling information flow hampens market efficiency - that's what came to my mind first when I heard this this morning. This will kill arbitrage opportunities - what's the essence of the market if you cannot 'beat the market' with information at your finger tips ![]() |

My point lies in cooking similarities and thoughts of it being a career ![]() |
its very strange, given the fact that nigerians are extremely good at psychology, only that they dont major in it academically.
I want to cast this as a joke! Nigerians major in psychology please! I remember the best graduating student in UNILAG in 2006 or so was a psychology graduate. Was she taught by electricians ![]() That's just a sample out of a population. |
I like this. This is better than those who want us to learn the other way round via sentiments. But OP, how can you be saying one thing now that his name is Mr. Sham and his Ogas at the top know him as Mr. Shem - take time o ![]() Ignorance is really deadly, especially when it's coupled with arrogance as exhibited by Mr. Shem. We should learn how to be humble. If I even wanted to defend him, the defence would have failed when he said "ww.nscdc" - simple "we are working on it", "I'll let you know after the show" or something similar would have sufficed. |
FFO Funds From Operations ![]() I do have a flair for cooking too however I never thought of it as a career until I 'grew up'. I did realize that taking it as a profession may not have the same aroma with my flair cos as an expert with diverse skills, one would definitely have to learn cooking different types of foods - even the ones you don't like. I listen to this guy - Chef Uche Can Cook and it's obvious as a cook, you'd branch into food nutrition cum health technology to know the causal-effects of the food we eat to the body system. As per pay, my observation is that the more 'international' your skills are and your packaging makes your brand irresistible. For now, I don't think I can negate my career for it full time. |
No wahala sir! The deal is that we do need another eye to see somethings we never saw ![]() |
1. 5 years (half a decade) is enough experience. 2. How old are you? Am just thinking about 30 years old and exemption. 3. Following the law, you will be posted to NFPs/MDAs - the best you can get is working your posting to Ministry of Finance, CBN or any other finance-related MDA. 4. If your mind is set on serving for a year, you can do the wring things. What people do are: i) 'Ghost corping' - I know someone 'serving' in the UK if you know what I mean. ii) Local GC - like the one above, you sort out your service year with your PPA and work in the private sector you wish to work in. Some companies don't care - theirs is that you sort your service out and work for them. Others are ethical and don't involve in such deals. 5. This one may be wishful thinking - the policy may be reversed before you serve. 6. There was a thread where someone was asking of the policy was really implemented. You can still work in a private organisation and be within the law if you do your homework well! There are people presently doing this. |
1. Do something about the brackets here. While some people don't pay attention to it, there are appropriate brackets to use for numbers and letters: [Second Class Honours(upper division)2. You should be able to guesstimate your POP date - even though you may not know, I think your posting letter states the date of possible date of completion. July 2012 Till Date Subject Teacher - Mathematics & Physics (NYSC Service Year)"July 2012 - June 2013" seems more appropriate. It enables prospective employers know when you will be done with service. 3. Am allergic to little mistakes and use of 'caps lock'. ![]() Responsibilities:^* Prepare detailed plan(s) and lesson notes for the session. ^* Facilitate the understanding of concepts by students in line with the lesson plan ^* Conduct daily morning assembly and ensure order and calm in school Dunno sha, but this sounds somehow4. learnt the safety measures needed to work^* Was this a responsibility? You can rephrase the learning to make it look like a responsibility. 5. sense of organization (experience in sales);^* Sense of organization Sounds awkward.^* Project Mgt experience 6. Generally, there's nothing really -ve about the CV. What is obvious to me however is the lack of respect for capitalization - always start a sentence with a capital letter and for some exceptions, capital letters are not used within sentences. 7. I feel you can add more to your skills and Behind up the work experience part. Being that this is a template, you can always mmodify it to suit each job advert. |
This acidtalk and Oga at The Top - there's a difference between a student humbly admitting not knowing the school's website and arguing that you know it when you don't know it. The former shows why you are a student who is ready to learn, the latter shows that school will not go through you, you'll only go to school -> School of Hard Knocks ![]() If you don't visit or use a site frequently, you most likely will not know it. I will disagree with Afam's 'population sample' - whatever it may be. Just like WAEC or UTME, students in Universities who register their semester courses themselves are most likely than not going to know the school's website. Similarly, lecturers and administrators would most likely know the website if the school uses it as a medium of communication in the school. When these students become graduates and go for an job nterview, 2+2 during preparation for the interview make them commit the coy's site to memory. If you don't use it, you may never know the answers to the questions asked. It's the same thing amongst students - if you argue about what you know not of, you'll most likely be mocked. The cost of ignorance to other students is the prize for the first class student - the reason why s/he's results puts him/her at the TOP of the class. Meritocracy sounds, looks and reads differently from mediocrity. |
acidtalk: So many of us are still scared of answering this simple question.Apples and Oranges!!! |
Sentiments - Nigeria's problems. See someone insulting Aledeh for inviting the man to the studio to explain the recent job scam. God bless the guy above who distinguished between IGNORANCE and MISTAKE. Oga Shem showed how the former and ARROGANCE work hand in hand. Don't worry, let HR guys caress their interview questions before they hire applicants. I personally don't tolerate slack because it will simply not let us progress. I only hope it will serve as a lesson to everyone - you have to prove that you merit whatever position you are in + lies don't pay. In the context of having fake CD websites, the man disgraced the NSCDC - Shikena. We must stop mixing sentiments with officers who are publicly accountable to the people. People don't take time to decipher what really is the "news" - from that report, I knew it was fake but we always seem to be in a rush.

babyosisi: Even if I were a Muslim the answer is noSo, ![]() |
Nigerians are not foolish to laugh at this - I tell you, they know what they are doing. They can laugh at their problems in line with Fela's "shuffering and shmiling" but they know when to stop. The joke will die with time - ask BABA IYABO or Patience Faka Jonathan. If you talk about loving their nation, I take you back to USA basketball team beating us at the Olympics. We yabbed them and made fun of them, but when the American girl told us the truth about NEPA + Ghanaians trying to yab, us too, the table immediately turned that we didn't need a rebranding campaign to defend our nation. (The incidences were on Twitter) You cannot tell the people when to laugh or cry, that wil be like attempting a "Nineteen Eighty-Four". |
^^^This is where people are missing the point! Your analogy has a negative correlation with "Oga at the top" issue. Common, no one should fool me jare. Similar things have happened to other agencies in Nigeria. They come out to verify. Here are Nigerians watching someone in authority, hoping to get correct information and you are telling me about students - why didn't you ask about the dean or DVC? It's like asking a police college student the site of NPF. The point needs to be reiterated - Nigerians have been duped via fake NSCDC websites. In light of recent issues such as that, the NSCDC had to come out to throw a DISCLAIMER! Now, let's even ignore that he is not supposed to know it - why was he arguing with the presenters? "Wait, wait" Then he pulls the arrogance streak "ww.nscdc" *clears throat* "that's all". Haba! Take a UNILAG student insisting the school's site is "htp.unilag.org" If you don't know something, you don't know it ni! No one will flog you but you seem not to realise that one of the solution to their problems they are presently facing relates to their AUTHENTIC website. For the interview, it was something he ought to have even said before the question because in today's world, an organisation's website is an authoritative means of communication to the public. I will still have to mention Frank Mba here - when you listen to him, you will respect the NPF. That's an example of meritorious progress. Leadership is not easy, that's why you have to work hard to get there. The same reason people want graduates to prove their mettle. Our public service will never progress if we start employing skewed performance analysis benchmarks - public accountability + VFM are important here. Ps: during the final stage of Bank PhB's "Apprentice Africa" the lady from US (forgotten her name), an economics graduate was asked what "J curve" was. She simply said "I can't remember". That's a hot seat o not to talk of Oga Shem who didn't talk like he was scared. He was simply exhibiting his ignorance which is why he reminds me of some guys at news stands who 'know' Obj more than his children sef! |
