Osyxcel: Was just wondering why loadz of people go to churches/mosques every Dec 31, just to shout 'Happy New Year'....even those that did not go 2 Church/Mosque throughout d year.....Muslims DO NOT observe this. First, they use the Hijrah calendar. Presently, they are in Safar 19 (2nd month) on January 1. Secondly, as caused by the Punch Editorial on Ogbeni's declaration of public holiday to mark the 1434 hijrah, hijrah is observed in Muslim countries but there's no evidence in the religion for fanfare etc : http://thenationonlineng.net/new/columnists/osun-hijrah-and-equity/ http://thenationonlineng.net/new/femi-abbas/hijrah-and-nigerian-media/ Thirdly, the muslims use the weather. By their night prayer, another day has started - they don't use the 12 am to 12 noon kinda thing. Going by that logic, december 31'ended' when "complete darkness has arrived and the white twilight in the sky has disappeared" or "when the red thread has disappeared from the sky". Fourthly, Muslims observe tahajjud (night) which is a personal thing. The widely 'recommended' time for this is around 2am to past 5am. There is no need for a congregation in the mosque. However, if some people are observing 'special prayer' or tahajjud in the guise of welcoming the gregorian year, then this is nothing but an innovation and has no basis in Islam. |
KnowAll: This time ladies and gentlemen give your votes to Buhari. The 74 Year old man would not steal your money, what does he want to do with it.70 not 74 please. https://www.nairaland.com/1134781/happy-birthday-buhari-70 |
Lacasa don't waste your time. Aside the 'laptop 40' and those who as were rightly stated as intellectually lazy, don't forget that the minimum age to register on NL is 13. Hopefully, some strata can't vote. It's the same way they prove the doubting thomases by glancing at headlines and refusing to read the content and analyse critically - blind rush. |
I no o lie - you're being pampered ![]() There's no problem with your parents supporting you, but that's quite different from 'Ctrl+Ging' you all the time. Everything can not go rosy all the time, so we have to face challenges sometimes as opportunities. Aiite, nothing wrong in going for the Msc but am keen on you getting an experience - whether Agro-econs or CSC. There are threads here, several of them that ask whether the Msc is needed at some stage - you could do with that. |
Personally, I'd say you compare the syllabi - a lot of our schools (both federal and state) offer outdated courses in CSC/ICT. I even get 'angered' when I have to teach a CSC some troubleshooting on PCs for example. Those who work as apprentices etc get a better on-the-job experience than a CSC undergraduate that hardly uses a system in the laboratory. If you choose to do it anyway, endeavor not to 'dull yourself' - develop yourself outside the school curricula so that you just don't end up having the degree for the sake. |
ICT concerns the use of computer systems, Be aware that some universities do run their ICT |
The CBN I know, it may be difficult to get an internship except you already know someone. However, like others have said, go to their branch and make some enquiry. Yeah, one poster made mention of being fixated - why don't you give the finance ministry a chance be it state or federal. You can also search for 'wIntern' on FB - they have some openings. |
Some state schools are better than some federal universities and vice-versa. The brochures of the schools you wanna compare with may give you a better idea. |
^It appears you are definitely in love with your job. In fact, seeing the question made me ask this too initially: Orpelin: mr toptop, don't tell me at this stage, you are still confused as to the career path to tour, after being a chartered accountant.Economics is a wide field. In schools, they make you understand that it is the 'father' of finance/business related courses including accounting. I think you should enlist on the transfer market and seek a better place where your skills would be better suited if you ain't happy with where you are now! |
Whoa! See who we have here - Mr Choosy ![]() When I read the first part about that job not being in your state, the question that readily came to mind was, "did you serve in your state of residence?"- that's one reason Gowon's government gave us NYSC - to expand your cocoon. I woulda thought you'd have started from there - Abuja is the centre of the national cake and you'd surely have met someone or/and some people who could link you with where you wanna go back to. There are definitely a lot of people who due to the uncertainty of the labor market, stayed behind and went back to their state later. Alot of times i have been called for test andWere you applying to the wrong jobs Whilst am not a supporter of a surveyor being a CRM at a bank, some schools of thought say "start from there", you'd probably get a chance to switch departments when the bank wants to evaluate investments or when someone leaves the bank - internal applicants get to the first choice list. That's just an example. Now, what you want to do next depends on YOU. Do you really have the passion now for trading? Do you want to go to school because you have the interest or because you're 'frustrated'? Can't your dad help in seeking placement for you instead - someone who knows someone that knows somewhere for you? That's the very essence of networking; those people who are 'handy' when you need to draw. I feel in your 'line of duty', it is better you go for the Msc degree later cos from your post, it appears your first degree had to do with CSC - there are quite a lot of IT related solutions coys are looking for; (current) skills you should be bothered about if you don't have or have not updated. in case you want to know more about my skillsSome of those guys at CV don't have the edge you got but they are still making a living outta it. Let me scold you here, "be a man, stop being pampered". Your parent's support are not outta place but there comes a time when you take the responsibility (nothing personal bro). My vote - get a job!!! |
^^^Get something better to do please. I strongly want to believe you're a teenager or a young misguided adult cos if you are old enough to be called an adult and you write this, am sorry for you. Ask yourself how the christians became governors first - oh, the muslims failed to kill them before they were ELECTED by the same muslims right 0r, only christians voted in the elections right? Or Attahiru Jega is a Christian to preside over an election a GEJ 'won'?Y'all that throw the ethnic and religious cards are a sorry case, you're plain lazy - get something better to do with your intellect instead of wallowing in the levels of the ignorant people you condemn!!! |
Bachelor of Science - BSc Bachelor of Arts - BA They both are degrees any employer that needs the services of those with any of them will advertise for. Some don't even bother about the "B" stuff - they just wanna see a "degree in XY field". |
Your project should be something you do have interest in - even though you can always have ideas from projects of your predecessors or the internet. As an economist, which strikes your interest the most Is it the macro or micro, the national or international, a state or a community, a household or a stratified random sample of individuals in a sector etc. . .Maybe from there, you can start to streamline the areas your potential topic could emerge from. Personally, just answering the question like it was an open one, can your hypotheses (or -sis) focus on recent issues Sanusi had picked on Like Nigeria's debt profile and the need for debt, the Civil Service workforce and our GDP abi na budget, you could choose to go to other issues such as "Islamic Banking in Nigeria: Any Effect on the Nigerian Economy/Banking Sector? " etc ![]() PS: No matter how much you like the topic, before choosing it, consider the 'ease' of finding materials on it. |
Maybe you should go to the Jobs section of the forum to see different templates of the genuine and not-so-genuine job ads. Yamazuka's suggestions are adequate for this post. |
victme1: i once poured petrol in to a cough syrup bottle. Then i ignite the knock-out (my intension was to drop the knockout into the bottle)purposed was to see what will happen when the knock out explode in the bottle. Alast my saving grace was that my fingers were shaking so badly out of anxiety that i missed the bottle before the knockout explode. It brunt the skin on two of my fingers. When i have gathered enough courage next time, i will still try it again to see what will happen to the bottle. You apparently have not learnt your lesson yet. |
odehaj: This debate will NEVER end until Jesus comes! The qu'ran believing moslems will ALWAYS hate Christians take it or leave it!!! But we can do something to reduce them, kill a pig and drop it in their mosques they will never pray in that mosque again. They will think their allah has cursed them!personally I'm about doing that in a mosque in my area, carry it out guys!A man had once urinated in the Mosque during the lifetime of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) - was he killed? Oh, your guess is not as good as mine! Forums are a waste of time when people do not discuss issues. |
solowee: Do you need more than a week seminar to know about local laws?Nigerians opting in for ACCA where they could kill 3 birds with a stone (a la Bsc especially for the HND holders, young school leavers & those who were unable to previously get a degree depending on their circumstances, ACA + ACCA) instead of ICAN. It's not about the beef as some think, it's about not lagging behind whilst the world moves on. |
Before this, what did ACCA members/affiliates do before they became ACA? Definitely, you cannot practise in any country if you know not or are unfamiliar with local tax laws + audit regulations. Anyway, I'm more concerned about the FA syllabus in ICAN as per IFRS. |
My problem with forums is when people wallow in issues that are unrelated to the content or topic of a thread - I always want to believe it's the misguidsed youths that throw these cards - tribes ![]() The man has raised pertinent questions - is BRF the one in charge of customs? The government has its own blame when it gets to do with the response time of FS men and our building regulations - how can we have generator shops et al where people live One of the residents was reported in the papers to have said that the residents all knew what went on around there.Let's face the issues please! These stuffs have been banned and when Frank Mba was in Lagos, he repeatedly mentioned it on airwaves that they are illegal. The government may make laws but and being unable to enforce every move of yours, but if you choose to break the law, you bear the consequences. This is the same way explosives and arms found their ways into the country and we turn the blinsd eye or have we forgotten the Iranian shipment ![]() |

semid4lyfe: Stephen Keshi: Of course, I am on the same page as my Federation. Alan Pardew knows he cannot stop Shola from going to the Cup of Nations because the competition is recognized by Fifa."Black boys "" In his head " I don't want to believe SK said those.Whilst he owes us no explanations, I felt he gave us more 'footballing' reasons than needed about the players he invited! On a lighter note, Osaze, it's not about being black o. After all, you know Martins and T. Taiwo well enough ![]() |
bukatyne: Nobody Said Jesus was born on Dec 25, D date was chosen to celebrate His birth and consequently His death and resurrection.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas What a lot of those who converted to Islam do mention is that if they knew Islam through Muslims, they may never have converted (well, I don't blame them either) - they followed the instruction of "know ME before worshipping ME". The same way reporters even go to the extent of giving headlines of "BH Islamists (it's not enough to just write 'Islamic' Sect for them) attack church" etc to give a semblance of religious intolerance, more Americans and Europeans ironically had an increased interest in Islam after the 9/11 and 7/7 attacks. I don't want to go into the politics of BH but we all know the 1st bomb blast at Eagle Square, we all know the many scholars (unfortunately so considering their pot of knowledge) who condemned the sect and were killed - Nigeria Tribune used to report this during UMYA's era, we cannot claim there are a lot of Muslims in the north and yet, they are the least casualties etc - for those who want the 2015 prediction to be 'purrfect', inciting a religious crisis is the easiest to cause disaffection amongst the masses and ignorant ones. Like someone said, 'OPEN YOUR MIND'. I'd say - ignorance isn't appealing at all!!! |
I'd suggest you visit the Education forum for enquiries about NOUN. |
Gentle Naaz: Wr r d muslims, buhdists, etc. Cn dy nw c d big difrnc btw christainity n oda doctrines. Wow!!! 5 pages over the OP's idea of an 'inaugural ball party' and no one ever pointed out that 'picsshure' is unreal!!! Kai The epic fail is the one of GEJ and Sambo - looks like... I 'comment my reserve'!! Why would people argue over something that never existed in the 1st place ![]() |
Chxta the ELEPHANT ![]() I do buy @akinocity's point. |
If Mandela were a Nigerian, some people will even remind us that he was the former president, he deserves the best bla bla bla even when our public hospitals are in a sorry case. They'd find different excuses for capital flight. This is not even condemning travelling for medical treatment but failure to implement the things you've seen abroad, then copy and paste here seem to be a success to them. By the way, the Mandela frenzy baffles me. It just appears some people are in a haste to see the 94 year old die before his time!!! Smh |
I do agree with some of the OP's points. Inasmuch as some things are not normal in Nigeria, one will not condemn the trial attempts - afterall, in constraints do opportunities exist. No. 7 and 8 caught my attention. I keep on harping the G&C stuff - it is even a sorry state that some G&C departments 'advertise' their services for students to patronise. One regret students should avoid is the IT regret. |
Who hatess eight eh? Rafael offered some sacrifice there! |
Thought it was meant to be 'iroyin'? Or was it a penkeleemesi kinda thing? |
Confirmations (emphatic S) ![]() |
donroxy: There is difference between ''Decision'' and ''Informed Decision'' PTF is necessary.....A leader isn't expected to be hasty in making decisions but you mention not that among the xtics of a leader are decision-making, planning and oirganising. |
