One, I saw the interview - I watched the mannerisms of all participants. Two, I don't think the Channels crew set out with the interview in order to achieve fame - c'mon, it's something they do every weekday. Three, I listen to and watch Nigerian government stations - this means I've heard a lot of government representatives speak. Sometimes, even an Oga sends someone else to represent him e.g. Min of works on Ray Power's Political Platform and they do well. Four, if those criticising the Channels crew are honest, did they really watch the stuff or they just want to be different from the crowd for difference sake? I personally do not tolerate slack, moreso from someone who is being paid via taxes of citizens. Five, that people are trying to turn the table on the presenters shows the bane of Nigeria's problem - sentiments! Mediocrity is mediocrity, it has no other name. Someone brought up an excuse of not everyone knowing all but in the context of recent happenings, the authentic website of NSCDC was something he ought to have known - he is a public officer and the presenters demanded something called PUBLIC ACCOUNTABILITY. It's just like IGP saying he'll fish out the BH guys and when they ask him where they are located, he says it's Uganda. Mehn, the man showed what square pegs can do in round holes. It clearly showed that he really didn't have a good idea of what 'scammers' were costing Nigeria via fake NSCDC sites. Six, I don't get it - if we are telling generation "Y" to get their acts together, cutting this man a slack would never get us anywhere - that's why we all can't bw leaders. To get to the top, you must merit it. The way Mr. SHEM argued with the presenters emphasizes the point why one should not go to news stands to be 'arguing' with every Tomiwa, Dickson and Haruna who speak without facts but imaginative 'gragra'. The presenters had this "shocking" expression on their faces when he kept on ranting. Seven, there is a moral lesson here - lies could make a mess out of you. There are better ways of not lying and maintaining your integrity. His insistence makes me remember that we all learn everyday. Don't ever feel to big to learn something new. The fallout of his "biggy biggy" which most ogas at the top do is what has made him the butt of jokes - his performance made the comedy, the presenters were just like "wakapass". Nigerians have been treated with terrible acts of leadership in recent times - if they chose to laugh at this one, it's their choice as (tax-paying) citizens to do so. |
Child abuse! Guiness ko, gunners ni. You want them to be fined ba after the "not for persons under 18" thingy? |
flckr: Congrats to the dude but I can tell u of my Sis who left Sec Sch @ 14yrs plus ,gained admission to Convenant University to study Economics. She graduated with a 2-1 CGPA 4.4 and was done with youth service at 20yrs with ICAN certification in the Kitty.Has a Masters Degree from UNILAG with a Dinstinction Grade.Works with 1 of the Strong New Generation Banks in the country and was about to start her CFA Exams before Marriage and Child bearing issues came into play mid last yr.Send your sister's story to Punch news. They could feature her on the page next week. As far as this is concerned, this is Abdul Azeez. Others have done it before no doubt, but every man is the author of his or her story. I like the point someone made about mentoring - he had a clear idea of where he was headed at that stage which by the evidence of some career section posts, is lacking. He even wants to make an impact with his knowledge! That shows the stuff a graduate is made of - using what you learnt to affect the society. No one puts the alumni sticker of your university on your forehead - private or public! The output is the end that justifies the means. |
I like the way you archive your materials - you 'play' like a librarian cum journalist. Thumbs up |
abioila: Ialso intend to start CFA after my NYSC since one has to be a graduate to enroll. You need not be a graduate (as long as you're in year 3) to start your Level I CFA - it's when you get to level two, that the graduate rewuirement is needed. Instead of going for CIS after ICAN, why not take CFA and continue through your service year? |
If 'most' lecturers in Nigeria were PhD holders, NUC wouldn't be setting a timeline for ALL lecturers to have a PhD as the mininum qualification. In fact, we currently have a shortage of PhD lecturers, a reason why the excuse of no jobs by Dangotecement PhD truck drivers amazed me. @topic, you can always start as an Assistant Lecturer however, most universities for a start, require that you have either enrolled for your masters, have your masters or in the process - therefrom, you can go on for your PhD. Since you have a MSc, then you have the basic qualification. That you wanna. commence a PhD program shows the prospective employer that you really know 'how it goes'. Even if you've not enrolled for one, you have to indicate you're ready for one ASAP. |
Starting rhetorically, for you to have got to this stage, I believe you are now an adult - well that's why you're one; you're responsible for making decisions that affect you and your environs. On viewing this topic, I thought it was gonna be about the 'PHD' thingy in schools. What you're experiencing is normal - it's more like the 'expectations' theory. My guy, the confidence it requires for a 3rd class is totally different from yours o! You got the advantage already with your grades while the former has to proves stereotypes wrong that s/he is not an 'olodo'. You do not want to disappoint people but just be yourself, that's all. If you really got the stuff in you, the golden fish can have no place to hide. The deal is that one works towards his or her luck which is what your grade has put a premium on for you. You trying to 'divert' to another course must be something you're really sure about. No one is trying to scare you but those who will be shocked by your decision will express the same fear - no one wants you to make a mistake you'll regret. Don't walk in peoples' shadows - yoruba people say, "won o o ki wo ago alago sise" ie "you don't use somebody else's watch to work". That someone says you should not work as a first class is not TRUE. As much as Rome wasn't built in a day, the difference between you and those who say little of what they know is the research you make and careful analysis before taking decisions that are not bandwagon-like. If movie production is the passion you got, take a careful study to learn in the industry. Be careful to those you take advices from and how you pay attention to every statement you're told - some are bourne out of ignorance/illusion. It's left for you to sieve the wheat from the chaff - goodluck! ![]() |
Apparently, these stations have their target audience - most likely, teenagers will enjoy such programmes. I guessed as much that it would be Freeze and if not him, UnCOOL fm. He actually likes playing on radio, so if you don't understand, you may take him serious. But even at his 'plays', people find his reaponses too expensive for jokes - especially this feature of his when it comes to yanking you off the line. Last time I called, he argued about a 'research' and I refused to accept his position. If you know him not well, you can be easily intimated or insulted by his antics so before listening to his shows, you may want to remember the caveat to listen with a 'light mind'. When I listen to radio, I try to gain much. We may not have so much matured presenters but we certainly do. Presenters who conduct enough research before coming on air and those who take to correction when corrected. I listen to radio frequently and it appears it is the younger presenters that fall into this poor PR/HR relationship. Even the day this Chaz B guy was corrected for being rude, he stated his case and still apologised if he was miscontrued by the 'prosecutor'. Everyone learns at the end of the day. Radio is like public opinion, you have to manage all sides. The NCC even published a notice in the dailies recently for radio presenters to be careful when discussing issues. It's very simple, there are easy ways to gain and lose listeners - (don't) change the dial! |
^^^Some of us tend to fall into this 'better than you' feeling perhaps cos we got knowledge or maybe due to seeing outward behavior of an individual out of touch with the deen. I do buy that point of some people getting too serious - I don't think it's just youthful exuberance, it cuts across. You know, when you are told this world or dunya is a temporary abode and place to strive for, it connotes 'serious mode activated'. Maybe getting the balance between the prophet's (pbuh) warning against laughing unnecessarily and smiling being a sunnah is difficult for some. Understanding traditions in perspective does pay here to curb excessiveness. Trivialties are best avoided in this 'jokes'. As per the topic, some men still think it's unmanly to play, joke, gist or even communicate with their spouses. They forget their islamic responsibilities to the women they protect and nurture in the deen. If you create this very strict, mercy environment, the synergy between you and your wife will be master-slave. |

cogitoErgo: Please how do I check my data balance on Airtel bis?*141*712*0# too. I always used that to check data balance although the 123 is even easier to remember as it follows the data balance number sequence. |
There are enough topics on this board and the investment baord that will shed more light on this for you. |
Anyone can be an auditor - in fact, in public sector organisations, there really are no strict criteria, but to be a financial auditor, you definitely need certification. Not because of the 'certificate' but because of the know-hows you 'll be taught that are specific to auditing. Auditing is very interesting and a fav of mine though people tend to dislike auditors because of their 'watchdog' activities. Personal traits that are cogent include honesty, self-discipline, integrity and thorough care & analysis in whatever you do. Certifications necessary are ICAN, ACCA, CISA, CIIA, CITN inter alia. CISA is quite important for the auditor cos he has to keep up with the IT world while the likes of ICAN are important cos the auditor has to know the financial regulatory framework governing the company she is auditing. One intersting area is forensic auditing. It's akin to police work and takes keeness and carefulness. Corporate governance is also an area auditors are concerned with due to scandals and deaths of companies that could have been prevented. They are highly valued because of their assurance services - it's like paying a private investigator money to check if someone you entrusted to do something for you is not cheating on you. Overall, the 'expectations gap' will continue to exist cos owners 'if-wishes-were-horsingly' expect the auditor to be omnipotent. A reason why being detailed is necessary. |
chakaz: My Uncle experienced that last month, but before he could finish it or before the expiration date, it was wiped out. Pray that it will last upto two weeks. Thank you.Uw. Just wanted to be sure that this is an update of their plan and not a one-off thing. If it does occur next time, I shall come back here. |
^^^ Please be explicit. 1.2GB for the complete? ?? |
Once again, for those who feel the CFA exams are on the high side, you can take opportunity of the scholarship which 'discounts' your exam fees to NGN40,000 i.e. $250. The scholarship is open for access from tomorrow, March 1 to September. Visit the link below: http://www.cfainstitute.org/programs/cfaprogram/register/Pages/scholarships.aspx |
Guesstimating that your question could also do with passing your papers at first attempt, then you'd have to reveal the papers you want the 'pass' strategy for. |
teetee2: Can it possible to pass all registered papers in one siiting, if yes, please how. thanksNo!!! Even the dude that completed his ACCA and CFA exams in record time still had to take the exams in SITTINGS! You are allowed to write maximum of 4 papers, so if you wanna whiz pass the exams, think about writing and passing 8 papers in a year. |
For some of us that use data plans, especially Airtel's BIS on other non-BB phones, this may be the beginning of the 'crash' if it is sustained. I loaded NGN1,200 'bsm' i.e. blackberry social plan and got 3GB. Dunno if anyone who recently subscribed to the Blackberry Complete Plan can reveal the data cap on the plan as bcm was formerly about1.2GB, hence little difference existing in the plans except you used a BB phone. Airtel has not publicly announced a review, at least none that I know of in recent times. |
^^^ Yep. I heard so too. You could give them a try i.e. CBA. |
Well, businesses must survive and they need funding for their services. I just knew it would get to a point Jobberman would enter this stage especially when I saw sometime ago, their premium services etc - I knew they were trying to streamline users of the site. This just reminds me of some online Nigerian newspapers charging people for reading their content online - well, we all know the end result today. Apparently, JM has a partnership with MTN - I suggest they find ways of funding operations without charging users for the mindset of the average Nigerian like that of the OP is to change ship and use another website!!! |
Heheheh No qualms fetching coffee ke? Masters Dangote PhD Truck drivers come to mind!!! |
On one thread, someone was asking the age when one graduates from a boy to a man - FRSC seems to be upping the ante here. There are as many IRRESPONSIBLE >25yr old men as there are for those <25yrs. The law stipulates an age to drive and FRSC is creating another law without the parliament's resolution. Who told them there are <25s who don't have families to cater for ![]() Personally, this scheme in a country bedevilled with unemployment is >= pointless. The other day, the FRSC said that drivers of convoys should go for special training or a FRSC official should be in every convoy. Better policies please. |
For a body that claims to be employing best standards, it is APPALING that ICAN as a body cannot properly draw up a calendar and stick to it - even if contingencies arise, they ought to keep the public informed via their website. They seem not to be able to deviate from our government that 'rule' us with so much secrecy. The announcement of the result seems to be like a cat anf mouse game. smh! ICAN, wake up! @Sesko's post shows what not updating people can do - different insinuations are thrown out like it's a game theory. @Sesko, other bodies do face those 'excuses' you mentioned - the important thing is about setting standards and sticking to it but here, it appears even the 'professionals' cannot set themselves apart. Naija factor |
Total Oil Nigeria's site is www.ng.total.com No 'reputable' organisation looks for all-comers; guy, you no try at all. Absolutely ridiculous!!! |
Here is a good example: totalgroup: Designation - Job Vacancy At Total Oil Limited |
Desdola: Just because of a friendly match tongues are wagging. People should try 2 appreciate d efforts of others at least. In as much as am a fan of Osaze, his recent behaviour does not represent that of a sportsman. I just hope the super eagles wld write their critics wrong in the Nations cupPaul Bassey was asked to explain why Osaze was asked today and he mentioned one issue of Osaze being a problem in the team - out of the 3 things mentioned (one of them being that he kinda selected matches by telling coach his wife was about to put to bed during the Venuezela game and then again, in January), he said Osaze told Keshi that for the past ten years he had being playing for Nigeria, "Nigeria had never had a captain". This player, to the technical committee was gonna cause more problems in the team. |
Because, we have underemployment - someone working in a place he didn't train for, it turns out to be like a round peg in a square hole; more of a misfit and misuse of skills. Hence, if you are unable to apply the knowledge and skills garnered in school to the real world, it is as good as being USELESS. Anyway, the thing about going to school is that you just don't learn accounting like a poster posted, you learn other courses when you go to school so that school can go through you - this is quite different from a professional course like ICAN (as earlier used by the poster), a body that streamlines its syllabus to what candidates need to be professional accountants. This is the more reason why one needs career counselling - criminology may not be appreciated in Nigeria but it's definitely worth it in countries that are serious about tackling crime and studying the thought processes of criminals in order to prevent future occurences. However, it must ve mentioned that one must follow his passion despite the underlying circumstances - studying what the society 'needs' SHOULD be considered later on in order to make ends meet. Concerning the topic also, I would easily choose a course like CSC - this depends on the facilities in the school. What I do observe is that most schools have these features - inadequate facilities and outdated syllabi. The materials can easily be found online and I do not support one wasting 4 years for what someone can achieve at home and be more updated than you (undergraduate) are. If you however happen to be in such scenario, the bet is on you to 'up your game' and rely not on your syllabus or school curricula but to update your knowledge and skills to what the world is seeking solutions to and where the world is moving towards - think global, act local. Peace. ![]() |
@OP see the good sides in what @wesley80 noted. He did give out some cogent points to consider as to feeding the farmer instead of teaching him how to feed himself - take criticisms in good light, especially when they possess some objectivity. |
Just 10 days to the release of L1 Dec 2012 exams. The oldies have done injustice to this thread o. @wyt, there is this article that summarizes the answer to your question quite neatly: Most of the guys who have just finished their CFA level I exam must be pondering over this question – what now? Should we wait for the results or start preparation for the level II exam right now?^Source: Konvexity |
You could have registered even last year. Most tuition centres have early streams that will end for your diet, maybe late March or early April. Surely, you will miss out when you go to camp but it seems likely that at one point or the other, you will have to embark on self-study. |
Jarus: I don't believe exam should be about syllabus alone , there is nothing wrong in chipping in one or two general questions apart from the regualar 'define this', 'what is XX?', 'discuss 5 xtics of YY' and all those questions. In my FA old PE1, imagine being asked questions about excel, how to expand row etc. These are things you won't find in syllabus but clearly not out of order for someone in PE1 of ICAN.Whilst professional exams are not unexpected to simulate real-life scenarios as part of exam questions, I have an issue with deviating from the syllabus for an exam - that defeats the purpose of the study objectives. Am not here writing about GIGO students 'lazily' expect but this is one big F when one compares ICAN with other professional exams. In the build up to becoming a PA, different courses build up together till you have something like a tree. Examiners should not go beyond the scope of the syllabi in setting their questions - from there, they begin to break their rules. This is not to say one (the student) cannot input knowledge garnered from another paper and use it in a particular paper but this is different from having an exam where you begin to read from JSS 1 to SSS3 texts because anything can come out. Even standard-setters are aware of what the candidates can consume and confine to so as not to lose focus. Using ACCA's syllabus guide as a template, the particular paper is diagramatically explained to see where or how it relates with other papers - one is not expected to go back totally to the paper but you are for yourself the level you are expected to progress in each syllabus content via the knowledge levels 1 - 3. I would limit this to ACCA because am comparing similar exams, but other international exams I know of, the syllabus is NEVER negated partially or otherwise. In the examiner's report, the examiner sometimes tells you where the question came from in the syllabus. I think ICAN needs to help her students more to demistify these exams - availability of exam resources will enable an observant student know the 'tricks' of passing a paper. As for students, this is something I observe - knowledge builds up. You start from ATS to PE, from simple to hard for a reason - do not ever read to pass!!! It will always 'open your yansh' somewhere especially where a previous paper relates to the next paper one is taking. |
