In Nigeria, when it comes to choosing the materials to construct a building, most people have cost in the forefront of their mind.
The general assumption of a rational mind is “steel construction is more expensive than the traditional brick and mortar construction.“
However, with the technological advances that have occurred in the building industry over the past decades, there are numerous alternative building solutions that not only save on cost but also allow for creative structural ideas, and innovative builds and designs that weren’t possible in the past.
One such technological advancement is prefab steel construction.
A solution for the creative minds (thinkers) and not for those with fixed mindset (the this-is-how-we-do-it guys)

mank1234: Thanks SLAP44 for this exposition. I guess this implies that the price will come down soon.
Guys let's continue the wait game except if you're at critical stage.
I discouraged someone that wanted to buy 100 bags to pause his profect, if we all do this, I think they'll be force to have a rethink. We also need to be careful of cheap prices and the dealers we deal with because a lot of cement rebagging is ongoing. Two dealers were caught last week. |

SLAP44: What is behind the price hike is corruption, and it's happening on 3 levels.
Level one is where the manufacturer decides to leave a supply gap, citing disruptions like covid19 and the endsars riots, then hoard the products and release them in dries, to the highest bidders who are ready to pay from the backdoor to get supplied, because there is a large demand.
Level two corruption is among the dealers themselves, and they do that is by increasing costs exponentially to cover their losses which they are already incurring from customers who paid earlier at low cost, they must raise prices or relocate to their villages.
Level three is the government who will look at where it is happening and say, "after all its not affecting our people, so the south can kill themselves, after all they brought the endsars wahala on themselves" You’re 100% right! In addition to this, I think the crisis in sango-otta axis is also affecting supply. Most of Lafarge’s supplies are coming from the recently revived Sagamu plant. |

coldcandy: Go back and read slowly the post u quoted. Read again and translate it to your native language for better understanding. Then come back and state where i said skills acquisition is not education.
If your blacksmith workshop is your school or university, good for you. If your shop at alaba mkt is your polytechnic, that is fantastic. While education is on every man’s agenda as a very important issue, it is astonishing that the notion of what it means to be educated is often misconstrued. Our world is currently undergoing massive transformations almost on a daily basis and we never seems to transform our notion of what it means to be educated. A lot of people still feel education only entail knowing literature and poetry, understanding scientific principles and the basics of mathematics, being versatile in more than one language, ability to read and write, having certificates... One would have naturally assumed that most of the graduates and university lecturers roaming our streets will be the ones teaching us here just like we have on Lynda, Coursera, Udemy, Skillshare, edX etc. But what do we have? ___________ The curriculum of the current school system (in Nigeria) bears no relation to the finished products we (or let me say I) seek. The earlier we start to rethink what it means to be educated and begin to focus on a new conception of the very idea of education, the better for us. __________ Pic 1 - 3 | Goal Setting Session at Agodi Gardens, Ibadan. I’m not used to traditional teaching methods About this time every year, I always gather young graduates, not to teach them trigonometry and other intellectual and scholarly subjects being taught in the high school, but to equip them with skills that focuses more on human issues like communications, or basic psychology, goal setting, business and leadership skills etc thus shape them for the modern day realities. __________ While we argue that an educated mind can reason, curiously there are no courses in our schools that teach reasoning.I teach people to think and act, not write and read. They’re two different things.

EgunMogaji2: When I was Mr. Americana I hated to see young people on my sites. I felt it wasn’t a good move because I was measuring things with an American yardstick.
After I became tenured on the ground then I started seeing a lot of things differently.
That kid at the construction site could as well be the bread winner for his family. There are lots of complicated and maddening circumstances in Nigeria.
What I do is ensure that young folks are not tasked beyond their capacity and they get an education. Let me explain. For example I taught one to know why they count number of pans.
The younger folks get extra cash from me directly at the end of the day.
The numbskuls making laws up and down are consciousless twits who are isolated from the realities on the ground. I don’t use those as justification.
Most of the self made millionaires in the USA are trade people.

zuraking: unless we are just trying to feign ignorance or be an hypocrite. Nigeria govt has failed us so everyone is trying to survive.
I hate when I hear and read about education, education is overrated in Nigeria. When I count billionaires and millionaires in Nigeria and the whole world entirely, you won't see who made it big with education (I mean with salary from his/her white collar job). BUSINESS and SKILLS is the only WAY to survive in NIGERIA.
Education is good but it's useless in a shithole like Nigeria. Skills and family background is what youths are using to survive now (thanks to ASUU and FG that are playing kite with our students)
My 11 year old is now learning catering because I know the future of this useless country where graduates don't have hope of getting good job.
Greed is in Nigeria and we don't love ourselves. Same person preaching love doesn't love his neighbor including their dogs. We have rich people here that can help these underage kids in their street but will ignore them and start chasing how to build another house when they already have 5. It's self centered and most of them will still tell you child labor is bad. how many have we helped?? Let's start from our side.
If govt doesn't help them and the privileged ones can't help them as well then they have no choice than to enroll in different hand work to build their future. Everything shouldn't be about SCHOOL. Not all parents have the power to send their kids to school. I achieve a lot with my skills and not the book I read. I cannot count the number of graduates/undergraduates we train annually. One of our major problem in Nigeria is “We have too many educated illiterates.” The future is bleak unless we invest heavily in our young ones. It’s not all about the useless feeding programmes. _______ Pic 1 & 2 - This is the true state of the nation. If government should arrest those empowering young ones with basic skills, what should happen to those producing unemployable graduates?
