Stop running away from the main issue! What is well planned with tiny road and compacted building? You can't even compare yourself with Lagos and Rivers. In population alone, Lagos and pH city alone is more than Onitcha population. You should expect volume of housing to be more in Lagos and PH than that your small enclave.

What I see about Rivers state is that there is some sort of identity crisis going on there. Many people dont know who they are any more. Ogoni, Ikwerre, Kalabari, Okrika, Etche, Ekpeye, Ahoada and everyone else are claiming to be 'distinct ethnic nationalities'. The politics of Oil has turned some people into robots.

I was shocked to see someone from Chokocho in Etche who said that Etches are not Igbo, only to find out that the same person is from a family of Ijaws who settled in Etche many years ago. Give him another 20 years and he will says that Etches are Ijaw.


Sometimes I think that Rivers state should divided up. All the Igbo speaking groups from Ikwerre to Ahoada to Obigbo to Omuma should continue as Rivers state while all non Igbo speaking should either be a separate state or carved into Bayelsa

Bonny and Opobo might be Igbo speaking, but they are also Ijaw(Ibani) speaking.
You will hardly meet an Opobo or Bonny man that does not identify as Ijaw. Their youths leaders are members of IYC(Ijaw youth council), while their chiefs and Amanayabos are members of INC( Ijaw National Council).
You don't have to take my word for it, if you can't travel to Bonny or Opobo to find out the state of things there, you can simply join their facebook pages and engage the people.
Kalabari is Ijaw, though like the Nembes, many Kalabari want independence from Ijaw, they want to be an independent ethnic group of their own. But Kalabari culturally and linguistically speaking are Ijaws, and their leaders identify with IYC and INC.

Ndiigbo need to stop all these needless emotions, it will get us to no where. It does not make sense claiming a people who doesn't claim you, who as a matter of fact look at you with suspicious eyes.

We know our people in Rivers state. They are found in Obigbo and Egbema.
Let's look inwards and find a way to strengthen our bond with our fellow Igbos in SE and even the ones in Isobo, Benue and Enu-ani, deal head on with every type of discrimination or dehumanization of our people by fellow ignorant Igbos.
Pull funds together and deliver emergency relieve projects to neglected but proud Igbo groups like the Umuezekoha in Benue state who have been crying for our help since 2015 with no interventions coming from us. Just a few boreholes to relieve the people water needs, renovation of their dilapidated primary schools and provision of schooling materials to their people. Umahi can visit the governor of Benue state and liase on how to build small bridges and few roads that their absence had cut those Igbo communities off from development.
There is a whole lot more we can do for ourselves in SE and for proud Igbos outside SE. This whole obsession with some confused power drunk Bini people in Rivers state,whose ancestors adopted and corrupted our Igbo language is very unhealthy for us politically speaking and needs to stop.

The Ibo-speaking peoples number about 3,185,000 people, and are centred mainly in the Onitsha, Owerri, Benin, and Ogoja Provinces of Nigeria.

It is with the North-Western groups inhabiting the political divisions of Onitsha Province, known as Nsukka and Awgu, that this paper is principally concerned.

According to Dr. Talbot the Ibo consist of a number of sub-tribes such as the Awhawzara [" the people of the shrub bush "] and Awhawfia [" the people of the thick bush "]. But these terms are primarily geographical, and the most striking feature of Ibo society as a whole is the absence of any strong tribal or sub-tribal organization.

In the Nsukka and Awgu divisions there is no higher social or political unit than the " village-area ", i.e. the group of villages united by the possession of a common name and territory, the belief in descent from a common ancestor, the sharing of common customs and cults, and sometimes of a common chi or soul. The village-area may thus constitute a clan.

But it is frequently a local rather than a kinship grouping ; for, though the component villages may vaguely claim a common ancestor, it can often be proved that there was no original relationship, and in many cases, indeed, no relationship is claimed. Such unity as they possess is due to economic and political circumstances and to intermarriage.

A village-area is known as an obodo or mba or ala, and includes a number of subdivisions known as nkporo or ogbwe.

The nkporo in turn is subdivided into smaller groups or hamlets known as qnuma or nchi. The hamlet may coincide with the single kinship grouping known as umunna or may embrace several umunna.

An umunna may be composed of a single group of related families each of which consists of such close relatives as a man and his wife, brothers or first cousins and their wives and children ; or it may consist of two or more related groups of such families.

Where the umunna consists of a single group of related families it may, for the purposes of this article, be described as an " extended-family " and where it consists of two or more groups of related families it may be described as a " kindred ".

NORTHEAST
Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, Jigawa and Borno; you see these states, they all speak Hausa as means of communication except Adamawa where Fulatanci[i][/i] is the major means of communication. Yet, none of the people from these states are majorly Hausas, they all have their indigenous tribes.
NORTH CENTRAL
Nasarawa, Abuja, Kogi, Benue, Plateau; this set all use Hausa as major means of communication and trade but they all have their indigenous languages other than Hausa.
NORTHWEST
Kano, Kaduna, Sokoto, Kebbi; All speak Hausa and other minor tribes as means of communication but only Kano and Sokoto have Hausa as native speakers.
What does this mean? Hausa speaking is majorly for communication and that communication is hinged on trade and not because there is anything attractive from them (unlike it is in migrating to Europe, no offense intended). Hausas have never had any intent on power, they are just easy going, easy-to-be-manipulated set of people, they mind their trade and have no eye for luxury, they do not live for tomorrow, the moment is enough. They were basically pagans and irreligious, then the Fulani took advantage of them, conquered them, then used them as bait to infiltrate the South. I have come across a lot of them, from Taraba to Adamawa, to Maiduguri (when it was still trade hub of NE), Nasarawa to Abuja, Jigawa and Gombe just once and twice respectively.

65% of Rivers state traced their ancestry to Benin Kingdom. The Oba of Benin was in Port harcourt of recent and made the declaration that Ikwerre (The majority in Rivers state) Ogba ans Ahoada (Ekpeye) People are originally from Benin Kingdom.

70% of Delta state people trace their ancestry to Benin Kingdom. The Urhobor (Majority in Delta), Isoko, Ika, Ukwani (which igbos claim are originally from Igbo like they do to Ikwerre people too).


So it is impossible to exclude Edo state from the Niger delta.

South South was created same way Eastern region, Western region was created, same way Nigeria was created. So don’t tell me to forget about South South and go back to Eastern region, they are all failed. I will rather remain south South than join you for mk Eastern whatever which have failed.
