oluwaseyi0: Government cannot simply beacause the population is too huge, we just keep giving birth to multiple children like idiots
as at last count well over 1.5million children wrote JAMB you expect government to subsidize that massive shit? every year? subsidy of our father/older generation is only possible because the population of people in school is very low
white people that usually give birth to 1 or 2 kids know what they are doing, even at that they all pay tax like mad, and take student loans
we can't eat our cake and have it back, subsidy is not possible in a population-explosive country like Nigeria, any child that the parent can't send to school mostly because they have 8 to 20 kids should either take loan or square it up with the parent whose responsibilty is to take care of their many kids
the country can't continue to spend the money she does not have
The money required to subsidise education is not up to the money wasted on the national assembly, we should rather stop subsidizing politicians!
If all the 1.5million that writes JAMB gets admitted yearly then at an average tuition fee of N100,000,we are talking about only N100billion,yearly.
Whereas not up to 50% gets admitted yearly, so we would be looking at just N50billion Naira!
I would rather government subsidise education than introduced any unwarranted loan scheme for students!
oluwaseyi0: nope, government can no longer afford to do FULL subsidy for the masses, the masses population can't keep exploding and the government keep paying
in advance countries they mostly borrow student loan to go to school, their government is not doing any FULL subsidy
the only business government should have with our school is building modern structures, libraries, research tools, research funds and putting all modern stuff a school need to function, not to be paying a never-ending wage bill of lecturers
student who can't afford school fees should borrow, when they start working they should pay back, the money they pay back will be lend to other younger generation student and the cycle continues, that's how the likes of cambridge, oxford etc runs
also students will think twice before doing nonsense course in school imagine subsidizing islamic studies, nursery and primary school education, and so so many useless courses which usually have thousands of students
Government should subsidise education in developing countries, both for skills acquisition and academics. We should stop comparing developed countries with developing countries like Nigeria.
What is the level of education, poverty and Income per capita, in Nigeria, compared to your so called advanced countries?
If government cannot subsidise education and agric, then too bad.
Redoil: no wise dollar hoarders will offload knowing very well that with tinubu dollars will get to 2000 for no reason sorry to ask you do you understand the basic economics of international trade in relation to FX?
It's a 50/50 scenario.
Speculators too, are risk averse. There is also the risk to speculators, that the Naira could appreciate to say 590, instead of depreciating to 2000.
So, it is not very hoarder that will refuse to off load. And that's what makes the free market interesting.
The Naira will automatically find its level, with or with out hoarding.
The value of the Naira is not something that should be cosmetic. The more our exports over imports, the more the value of the Naira. No need to be scared of the Dollar exchanging for N2000!
Africa Union should consider a regional currency for international trade among member countries. This would reduce the unnecessary craze for the dollars, that is pushing its value up.
There is nothing to fear or contemplate suicide about.
If you are innocent, rape is not something that can be proven otherwise.
Even proving a real rape case is very very difficult, not to talk of lying over rape.
I beg relax, with a cup of tea.
A good strategy is for you to make same noise all over the social media and school magazine, about your innocence. Let your friends too join you in the crusade to counter false allegations. Publish all your conversations with the girl.
I repeat, It is never possible to prove a rape that never happened!!!
00FFT00: No lawyer worth his call to the bar will go to court without first checking that the evidence supports his prayer. The essence of the information being tendered is to show the discrepancy between what actually happened and what INEC told us happened. These two are clearly at variance, hence the process we are now witnessing.
Lifestone: Bvas worked, it was used for accreditation. It was the Uploading of result into IREV that didn't function. Bad enough, the concern of PDP should have been demonstrating that the results declared is different from the actual votes. That's what I expected
Substantial compliance is also very important.
The law required INEC to transmit results from the polling units.
Transmitting results,24hrs later, implied that the transmission was not from the polling units!
DoTheNeedful: These so-called witnesses keep saying the same thing. Is there any new information in these testimonies? We all know that INEC didn't upload the presidential election on the election day. PDP is just wasting the court's time.
No sir!
Court's final judgment would be based on evidence presented in court and not on what everybody outside the court know!
Vision101: @obinnanelson4 If they have been engaging in crude swap for refined pms, why then is subsidy in the picture all these while. Or is it that i do not understand what swap means?
@me Crude swap means that: The nnpc sales crude oil at international prevealing market price.
Uses the money realized to buy pms at the international prevealing market price.
Add the associated cost up to depot.
Total cost plus margin ought to be their selling price. But they sell below the total cost because the price is regulated.
The government will now be obliged to refund them thus: total cost minus the local pms price.
The amount refunded by government is the subsidy. Government has been saying that they don't have money anymore to pay it. They have been borrowing to pay it.
The crude swap was allowed because cbn has not got enough fx to sell for pms import. That was why nnpc was allowed to be the sole importer.
Further note that the amount paid for subsidy belong to the federation account. Hence about 38% of consumption take place in Abuja, Kano and Lagos because of population, number of vehicles and economic activities the states with lesser consumption are shortchanged. Their money is being used to subsidise consumption in those three locations.
If subsidy is removed, their money will be released and if the leaders are prudent they can pay regular salaries and develop more.
Our labour movements are just old school. Everything to them is aluta and strike. I think they need good consultants that are unbiased to advise them.
They should engage the government on what next. Removal of subsidy will favour labour in the midium and long run. There will be creation of jobs by the private sector in the petroleum sector.
pappilo: There is money value of the exchanged goods to balance for the books. its not simple trade by barter.
Assumptions for calculation sake 1 barrel of crude is $100 1 litre of petrol is $2 You can get 150 litres from each barrel
x NNPC gives Trafiguara 1 barrel of oil x Finished cost of 1 barrel turned to petrol is $300 x Trafigura will only provide 50 litres of petrol to NNPC for every barrel x On NNPC books they now have $100 worth of petrol (50 litres) instead of the $100 they should have received for the crude x They sell the 50 litres to the public at a subsidised $20 x The govt still has to make up the $80 shortfall
That is SUBSIDY
You are only giving us the more reason, why subsidy is scam.
However, be rightly informed that the major cost in crude oil refining, is the cost of the raw material itself.
But let me just use your figures for illustration purpose only:
The scam is in the details.
Before paying the so called subsidy, do we have the authenticated figures to confirm that actually, we are paying $(300-50) for the cost of refining, such that we get back only 5o litres, instead of 150litres?
Why not make it a straight trade by barter, such that whatever crude we are suppling covers all the costs of refining? With this we can then compare the cost of crude oil we are supplying, with standard and global cost of refining 1 barrel of crude oil?
How about the other by-products of crude oil refining? Who gets and sell them?
Is the $300 confirmed, audited and available to public scrutiny? Could it not be far less such that the difference is going to private pockets of thieves and economic saboteurs?
The more you make a simple process, complex, the more the propensity for fraud and scam!!
obinnanelson4: If they have been engaging in crude swap for refined pms, why then is subsidy in the picture all these while. Or is it that i do not understand what swap means?
Me too just de wonder oo So where is the N6tr o called subsidy money coming from or going into?
And how come FG is owing NNPC N2.8trillion subsidy money?
A Customer says he/she bought dollars from CBN at N641,without any official confirmation or pronouncement from CBN, you then rush to the press that CBN had devalued the Naira!
tonywonder: Well I have no problem with fuel subsidy. Tinubu should likewise increase minimum wage in the country.
It's evil for someone earning N30,000 to buy a litre of fuel for N600 except of course, Nigeria has become a nation for the elites.
Using savings on fuel subsidy on another consumption via Salary increase does not make sense to me. So why remove the subsidy?
Savings on fuel subsidy should be used to provide revenue yielding infrastructure such as electricity, railways and refineries, etc.
Instead of increasing salaries, government can float a transport company to provide affordable transport services across the country, similar to what we have with BRT in Lagos. The transport company can also acquire tractors and conveyance vehicles to provide logistic services to farmers and other businesses.
LeoDeKing: Competition will force down the price, yet you pegged the price, total bullshit.
Truly, removal of subsidy is synonymous to liberalisation of the industry, but then, why fixing prices?
Besides, Petroleum marketers have association, that is the where a price is fixed. Any marketer who sells in defiance to the agreed price will be sanctioned.
So stop the dogshit of prices coming down on account of any imaginary competition.
Do you really understand the issues?
NNPC as a company rolled out the prices of their product and your are talking of price fixing?
Is NNPC pricing the same as that of Oando , MRS or Total?
Why should court proceedings be altered because of one incompetent illiterate hiding his incompetence behind religion to get power?
Buhari filed cases at the Presidential Petition Tribunal, there was no live broadcast.
Atiku did same, no live broadcast
Even obituarist did same at state level, no live broadcast.
And I believe there is a legal purpose for that.
Why then should the legal process be abused because of one illiterate who can't pass ordinary Philosophy in school? Is this the first time there will be Election Petition Tribunal?
Mumu.
Atiku made the live broadcast application and not Peter Obi.
BTW, court proceedings are broadcast live, in many instances, globally, especially in cases of high public interest and for which the 2023 presidential election is one.
uuzba: UK and Nigeria are different countries with different histories. You cannot expect the same results. The whole UK speaks only English. Last-last, 4 other languages. In Nigeria we speak well over 500 languages. UK as been there for over 2000 years. They started having Kings and Queens for WHOLE COUNTRY in the last 1500 years. Nigeria was never a country. Just individual tribes with their leaders minding their business. UK explores went around the world colonising other lands. Nigeria do not give a f*** about colonising anybody. We haven't even understood ourselves first.
How does this your very uninspiring and half truth epistle, justify immorality and decadence of Nigeria's political climate and actors?.
So for instance, a current or potential political office holder should not step aside for immoral behaviour, just because Nigeria is not a country or we speak well over 500 languages or that there are different histories between UK and Nigeria.?
FalseProphet1: I see Buhari changing his name before handing over, I see some states in Nigeria changing their names as well, I see Seun changing his name to Obinna, I see mynd44 changing his name to abubaka, I see Nairaland bearing a new name. It's the era of change my people, change your names and surnames, so as to benefit from this era.
