This artist and fashion designer is using unconventional media to express herself — her own hair.

Laetitia Ky is an Ivorian contemporary artist who can sculpt her hair into anything and uses this talent to entertain her Instagram followers and speak out about social issues.
Laetitia Ky, from Ivory Coast, is all shades of creative. She is a visual artist, a fashion designer and a hair stylist. With her unique way of styling her hair, she makes sculptures that are sometimes political, beautiful or just weird. She uses coat hangers, wire, pins, needle and thread to create beautiful pieces on the top of her head.

In just over a year, Ky has gone viral on social media with her eccentric hair styles, been interviewed by big magazines such as BBC, gone to style Nigerian singer, Dija‘s hair, and launched a fashion brand, KYSTROY, that transposes the fun and versatility of the distressed jean with the originality and nativity of African print.

With over a 123,000 followers, the 21-year-old uses her Instagram as a social commentary on topics that range from pop culture, feminism and racism. In an interview with BBC, she says the three things that drive her art are a positive attitude, a passion to change the image of Africa and Feminism.

“As a feminist, everything related to women’s issues, including violence done to women, is something that greatly touches me,” Ky says. “I don’t think that one needs to be a feminist in order for this kind of thing to affect us. To be human is enough.”

Her passion to change the narrative is evident in one of her latest sculptures is a response to the #MeToo hashtag. The hair-art itself shows a man lifting up a woman’s skirt. In her caption, Ky encouraged women to speak out about sexual assault and start a revolution, subsequently opening her direct messages for people who needed to talk.

The First Lady also commended the love and support shown to her pet project, the Future Assured Initiative.

The wife of the President Mrs Aisha Buhari has received a honorary Doctorate degree in Philosophy from the the Sun Moon University, South Korea.
The First Lady also dedicated her award of to Nigerian women and children.

Mrs. Buhari, in a message on Instagram on Monday, said: “With gratitude to God for an honour done to me by the Governing Council of Sun Moon University, South Korea for being decorated today with a Doctor of Philosophy in Public Administration (Honoris Causa).

“My gratitude goes to the President of the University, Dr. Sun-Jo Hwang and the entire members of the governing council of the University for this honour.

“I dedicate this honour to all Nigerian women and children.”

She also commended the love and support shown to her pet project, the Future Assured Initiative.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the university in July 2018 delegated some members of the university to Nigeria to inform Buhari of their intention to honour her.

Buhari was given the award in recognition of her humanitarian services to less privileged in Nigeria, especially to the IDPs

Nigerian rapper, Olamide Adedeji made it clear in a comment on his instagram page that he is not scared of ban from NBC, because he already has a reservation in their blacklist.

Olamide released a new song, titled, “Puna” and in a bid to promote the new track, he took to his IG page to share a quite erotic video of a lady supposedly twerking to just released song.

Upon seeing the video and its explicit content, coupled with the lyrics of the song, a singer, jahbless pointed out to the artiste that the song might just get banned from the National Broadcasting Commission.

In response to the fan’s comment, the rapper subtly shaded the cooperation as he says he’s unbothered whether or not, they ban his yet to be released song cause he’s already on their blacklist.

Wizkid has announced a list of places around the world where he will be performing starting this August.

Wizkid is in line to perform at various cities across Europe, Africa and the United States in the next couple of weeks.

The Star boy who announced in June that he was booked for the next three years has gone ahead to list some of the venues he will be performing this August.

Wizkid, who sold out the O2 Arena in May, and also performed at the One Africa Music Festival has featured on a number of concerts across the world since the start of the year.

The singer has also stated that he will be performing at concerts in Haiti, Canada and Jamaica later this year.

In a series of tweets posted on his page in the early hours of Wednesday, August 8th, Wizkid rolled out a list of cities and festivals he will be performing around the world beginning with the Meo Sudoeste Festival in Portugal, this Thursday.

Wizkid, who is breaking new grounds this year has also announced that he will be going on a tour of the Unites States before the end of the year with the tour dates set to be released.

On Tuesday, August 7, Wizkid also hinted that his much anticipated project, ”Made in Lagos” will be released on the nations independence day, October 1st.

Read the statement belowFollowing the on-going invasion of the National Assembly complex by men of the Department of State Services (DSS) in which legislators and members of staff, including the Clerk of the National Assembly, Alhaji Mohammed Sani Omolori, who is the administrative head of the Federal legislature, were harassed and prevented from accessing their offices, Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki and Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara have condemned the action of the security agents and described it as another attempt to subevert the nation’s democracy.

In a statement jointly signed by the two presiding officers of both Chambers of the National Assembly, Saraki and Dogara stated that the heavy presence of armed security men who unnecessarily militarized the legislative complex and harassed legislators and the workers in the complex could not be justified in a democracy.

The Senate President and Speaker further noted that today was a sad day for democracy as very early in the morning, they got reports backed by video and pictures, from members of staff of the National Assembly, their colleagues from both chambers and other individuals, about the heavy presence of the security personnel who insisted that nobody would enter the complex except certain Senators who were to be conveyed into the complex in a Coaster bus.“By 6.30 am, the reports started coming in and by 7am, there were pictures and video online showing armed security men preventing Senators and Honourable members from coming into the Complex.

Some of our colleagues then mobilized other members in both chambers from their respective abode so that they could pressurize the Security men from allowing them to gain entry.“Obviously, the public outcry from Nigerians and members of the international community against this illegality, this desecration of the sanctity of the legislature and this flagrant abuse of powers forced the government to relax the directives given to the security men as they later allowed the legislators to walk from the main gate into the foyer.

Still the lawmakers were not allowed to drive in, in their vehicles and were denied access into the main building housing their offices.“It is not clear what the plan of the government is but information reaching us indicated that some Senators who are pro-executive arm are being camped somewhere here in Abuja and they are being compelled to sign an impeachment notice that would later be brought to the Assembly complex.

The Senate Chamber will now be forced open to enable an illegal change of leadership take place in the Senate.“It should be noted that the Senate formally adjourned on July 24, 2018 and it stands adjourned. To reconvene, there is a process which has to be followed.

Also, it should be clear that these Senators who are camped somewhere know the procedure for changing the leadership of the Senate. Both the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Presidency officials masterminding this illegality know that they do not have the numbers to lawfully carry out this action.

“Therefore, we call on members of the international community to view this development as a coup against democracy.

This is a throw-back to the inglorious days of military rule where dissent is not tolerated and freedom of association and other fundamental human rights are willfully and carelessly violated.“We urge Nigerians and the international community to condemn this illegal invasion of the National Assembly complex and the attempt to asphyxiate the legislature as undemocratic, uncivilized and irresponsible.

“Let us use this opportunity to thank our colleagues in the Senate and House of Representatives who immediately mobilized to resist this coup against democracy.

Their action will be recorded as one taken at a time when the soul of this country is being imperilled. They have acted to avert the breakdown of constitutionalism and collapse of the rule of law.

They have stood up to dictatorship and demonstrated that this country belongs to all of us.“We also thank members of the press, local and international, and all Nigerians whose support for the cause of democracy have sustained us this far.

Following this unpleasant development, the joint leadership meeting slated for this afternoon has been postponed till further notice because under the prevailing circumstances, we cannot guarantee the safety of the 20 members from both chambers expected at the meeting”, Saraki and Dogara stated.Signed1. In the interview with the Guardian, bin Laden's mother, Alia Ghanem, said her son was 'engaging' and 'pious' as a young boy but became brainwashed when he went to study at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

'The people at university changed him. He became a different man,' she told the newspaper.

'I would always tell him to stay away from them, and he would never admit to me what he was doing, because he loved me so much.'

His half-brothers, however, believe bin Laden his responsible for his own actions and set his own actions.

'It has been 17 years now [since 9/11] and she remains in denial about Osama,' one of his brother, Ahmad, told The Guardian.

'She loved him so much and refuses to blame him. Instead, she blames those around him. She only knows the good boy side, the side we all saw. She never got to know the jihadist side.'

Both brothers said that when he saw the images of the World Trade Center and Pentagon burning, they 'understood instinctively that it was there brother who was responsible for it'.

Hamza is currently believed to be in Afghanistan where he has become a member of the al-Qaeda terrorist organization under its current leader, Ayman al-Zawah.

'We thought everyone was over this,' bin Laden's other brother, Hassan, told the Guardian.

'Then the next thing I knew, Hamza was saying: "I am going to avenge my father." I don't want to go through that again.

'If Hamza was in front of me now, I would tell him: "God guide you. Think twice about what you are doing. Don't retake the steps of your father.

You are entering horrible parts of your soul".'

Galadima Zakari, a candidate who sat for the exam in Ogun State is the best candidate not Moses Ape from Benue State.

Contrary to reports that Ape Moses, a candidate from Benue State has the highest score in the 2018 UTME, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced another boy, Galadima Zakari as the best candidate in the exam.

JAMB says Zakari sat for the examination in Ogun State and scored 364.

On Tuesday, June 29, 2018, The Sun Newspaper reported that Ape Moses, a student of New Covenant Christian College International, Makurdi, Benue State, was the best candidate in the just concluded UTME with a total score of 354.

Clarifying this, JAMB said Moses’ score in the exam is the highest among candidates from Benue State and entire North-central Nigeria, while Zakari is the overall best.

Further clarifications from JAMB shows that Moses is not among the top four candidates in the last UTME.

JAMB’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dr Fabian Benjamin, the top four candidates are: Galadima Zakari with 364, Adekunle Jesufemi from Ogun State who sat for his examination in Abeokuta with 358, Alikah Oseghale from Edo State who sat for the examination in Ekpoma and scored 357, and Ademola Adetola from Ogun State who sat for the examination in Lagos and scored 355.

The Board spokesman also said Akinyemi Paul from Ogun State, Ape Moses from Benue State, and Obi-Obuoha Abiamamela from River State all came fifth with a tie score of 354.

He, however, advised individuals and organizations who want to use JAMB’s data for research purposes to always contact the exam body for up to date information.

“Our doors are always open to any request especially when the nation would be the ultimate beneficiary.

The Board appeals to all interested individuals and organisations who want to use its data for research, reportage and other national necessary disposition to always contact it for accurate and up to date information so as not to misdirect the public into taking wrong and misleading conclusions,” he said.

Too many purported highest scorers in 2018 UTME
Recall that on Thursday, March 15, Aliyu Muhammad Sani Kaugama, a young boy from Jigawa state who scored 311, was celebrated on Facebook for purportedly emerging as the best candidate in the 2018 UTME.

A week after, another candidate, Ibukun Oduntan, reportedly emerged as the ‘best candidate’ in the just concluded 2018 UTME with 344 scores.

Delta Poly student reportedly sentenced to death by firing squad for kidnapping, armed robbery
Collins Okoro and one Ejemuta Adam Ogofure are said to have terrorised Isoko South Local Government and its environs.

A High Court sitting in Warri, Delta State has reportedly sentenced an HND student of Banking and Finance in Delta State Polytechnic, Collins Okoro to death by firing squad.

A news platform in based in Abuja, the Nigerian Voice reported that Justice A.A. Onojovwo on Friday, August 3, 2018 sentenced Okoro and his accomplice, Ejemuta Adam Ogofure, a driver to death by firing squad or hanging for kidnapping and armed robbery at Oleh in Isoko South Local Government and its environs.

According to the Nigerian Voice, the Judge after listening to the prosecuting counsel said Okoro and his accomplice are guilty of the charge of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, kidnapping, attempted kidnap and demanding property with menace.

Justice Onojovwo, who condemned the criminal acts of the accused persons reportedly said they are to die for kidnapping Ogboghro Vincent, a Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro in May 7, 2012.

The judge also held that the accused persons also robbed the lecturer of his Honda Accord and also placed a ransom of N5m on him before he could be released.

Justice Onojovwo according to the Nigerian Voice also said that the prosecution was able to establish the case of the substantial offence of kidnapping and multiple armed robberies against two out of the three accused persons arraigned before the court on a 10 -count charge.

Mrs. Jereoma Sam-Oligida, Counsel to the State told the court through the prosecuting witnesses that the accused persons robbed the lecturer of his car and thereafter whisked him to Bayelsa State where he was kept for days while a ransom of N5m was demanded from his family.

According to the witnesses, a ransom of N700,000 was later paid to the captors after 10 days in captivity.
