proflawi1: I am a proud Nigerian who still believes in the Nigerian dream. I am an expert in international diplomacy and conflict management. The agitation for the secession of Biafra from Nigeria to me might not be a good option for the Igbos or the so called Biafrans. There are a lot of things that need to be put into consideration before thinking of secession. May be you can learn from South Sudan, the youngest country in the world. Since her independence, South Sudan has never known peace. They thought independence will bring them peace and prosperity but reverse is the case. Lets imagine, a situation where onitcha people are the one getting the most appointments in the new country of Biafra...How do you think the Abians or other group within the Igbo feel like? In short, how do you solve the class, caste and the status system in Igbo land to ensure that no group is marginalized. Conflict is an inevitable part of existence but the ability to manage is the bringer of prosperity and development. If the Igbos cannot manage their differences with fellow Nigerians, how do you think they can manage differences within themselves? This is the same thing that happened to South Sudan. Peace!!! I guess when slovakia was keen on separating from Czech, arguments like urs surfaced from the murky depths of nationalism. South Sudan is the exception, agent provocateur. Will u say, dear friend, that democracy is not viable option for governments because there is a country known as Zimbabwe or Bulgaria? Since independence , Montenegro has applied for E.U. membership , joined the World Trade Organization, and rehabilitated its long -exiled monarchy . Generally , it' s economic record since independence has been viewed positively . To add more salt, Quebec region is vying seriously for ndepence drom Canada.....will Quebec dissolve into South Sudan ..Even South Ossetias war didnt last three months when they broke off Georgia. Do you know of Barcelona, their eyes are still on splitting the knot. if Biafra could gain independence, and then a civil war breaks out amongst its citizens, then its their responsibility, its their lesson to learn , and its theirs to know how deep crimson the colour of their blood is....not other peoples, esp peoples they dont hav much in common. |

OGACLO: The North, FG or even Buhari is not our problem in the south East, it is purely lack of leaders with Ndi -Igbo at heart that is. Facilitating the infrastructural underdevelopment from the Governments.
Just imagine having this kind of Governor in igbo states since 1999 coupled with our numerous individual developmental efforts, ala- igbo would have been an enviable industrial hub in Africa even with the little federal government contribution to this region.
The last time I visited onitsha I couldn't hold my joy but shout "willie is working" then I started to marvel if it was the same allocation that Imo, Abia Even Enugu under Gburugburu receive that anambra is receiving.
I expected Nnamdi kanu to start his sanitization from home but instead he went pursuing rat when his house was on fire because am sure even if Biafra is actualized today we are not going to import leaders, na these worst that the zoo politicians that will head the affairs.

Kay17: The trick is, the definition of a crime is within a law either a secular law or religious law (Islam). The Criminal Code governs southern Nigeria, and it does not permit carnal knowledge with an infant below 16. But Northern Nigeria laws are influenced by Islamic jurisprudence. Hence a similar prohibition of carnal knowledge with a child is absent or restrictive.
Soyinka ought to have consulted a higher realm -- Morality. Morality transcends laws, and penetrates the heart. However an infidel or atheist or pagan like Soyinka can hardly stand on any moral ground. a pagan can't claim moral grounds? please!!!! |

everydayperson: When some sections of Society consider God/Allah (or whatever alias he goes by) a depraved bastard with egotistic maniacal tendencies well documented over the centuries - you will find 10 times the number of people rushing out red-eyed and angry; fully in support of this sort of behavior.
is it possible to be Righteous and Unrighteous at the same time? Religion believes so. Followers justify their inadequacies in sound judgment by quoting God. "If God and his prophets are okay with it; so am I."
(Black) Africa has suffered the most from the glaring, insufferable demerits of Religion. worshiping God has its disadvantages as much as we like to make so much noise about the good parts. We must learn to recognize that our very nature is an off-shoot of our creator. we make claim he exists as a divinity above human understanding - yet he continues to demonstrate the same inadequacies we exhibit year-in year-out.
(Black) Africans are infinitely wicked and their capacity for good is founded on selfish conditions. We are patent Hypocrites (the fair majority) I abhors religiosity my self but u would quite agree that somehow it helps to meld society together. its like an experiment that man together with civil rule, throws at himself... religion fosters civilization including agriculture.....in times of great peril, peeps seek closure in religion...it gives man the fortitude to trudge on regardless of what nature throws at him.. in their bid to capture the gods mating season and the position of celestial bodies, the Mayans build temples and developed a calendar. in their bid to conserve nature , certain African societies cordons off certain fauna and flora from everyday use... in d same bid to conserve they eat their elderly dead to preserve land space and retain the spirit energy of the deceased back into the society... contrary to our arguments against religion, it actually fosters science |

I think that it is now imperative for the Islamic council to meet together and change the now archaic doctrines of the Koran.....remember their was a time when d catholic church burn witches and heretics, such was custom then way back in d dark ages...but over d years the churches dogma was amended to adapt to the modern age......Islam needs to modify it self for this century.....least it dies off.
because the prophet (may peace be unto him) married a 12 year old ( this was really paedophilia) does not mean that desert practice should be prevalent at this age. |

Tufanja: The problem is not the pregnancy, the problem is not the child...the problem is us, it is our society, so loveless and so careless and unwilling to embrace the most fragile sides of life. If we would stand around the girl, give her a safe environment to carry her pregnancy to end, if we were willing to invest in her future, to find a home for the new life, if we would get rid of concepts of shame, of thinking in impossibilities, in doom scenarios, if we would learn to think in opportunities, in making the best out of the worse...if we would just have a heart and love every life, even when it comes in not perfect circumstances, and stand together to make a curse a blessing...then we wouldnt take in our mouth the word abortion, we wouldnt give the girl another lifelong scar, the best way to healing is love and not denial and removal of a problem that will hunt you lifelong anyway, death or alive. well unfortunately or fortunately depending on which side you are on, we do not have such a perfect utopia in Africa nay Nigeria. Since our society is Hobbesian , its best we commit the lesser evil, #scrapeFoetus. this lesser evil (the evil stuff is just for literary emphass) will benefit the society in the long term. If i mayest ask, would you not shudder in shame and full of regret if u have a daughter parading a charlatan's baby especially if thou art poor? what if the girl has caught some stupid STD, I don't know her but I am extremely angry. |

Yes, she can't consent to an abortion but the pregnancy is now too late to abort. No one, not even her parents have a say in this. Let nature take its course. and who would be responsible for that foetus upkeep? Bleep nature, she should save her future and go for a D & C. |
