ProfAmaben: The South is gradually waking up. You benefit nothing being enmeshed with leeches and parasites.
How many Fulani and Hausa billionaires would be millionaires today if not for Oil money that they steal without caution or remorse?
The South is very docile and have allowed this evil happen over decades. Today, Oil has drastically lost its value and the South could have been a magnificent edifice without the parasites and Almajiri Muhammad head slamming pedophiles.
Let's practice true federalism where everyone is equal and respected, where there's fairness and justice. This country is currently overloading it's scarce resources by employing hundreds of Almajiri from Katsina into all sensitive parts of government MDA's and are massively paid for doing nothing via the South's wealth.
Those that earn 200k plus in Nasrda, DPR, EFCC, NHIS etc, what are they doing there? How can Nasrda have over 4000+ staff and recently recruited over 1k people this January?
Breakdown of excessive staffing for just a year: 1000 new recruits in Nasrda level 7 @ 197k a month = 197 million naira * 12 = 2.64 billion naira a year paid to people for doing absolutely nothing. Let's not talk about their bonuses, pension, gratuity etc.
Imagine employing 200 people in DPR from Katsina level 07 @ 370k monthly for a year, that's 880 million naira annually without 13th month salary. Nigeria is truly finished and would keep paying recurrent expenditure over what doesn't benefit the nation in any shape or form.
This is how the Hausa Fulani is impoverishing Nigeria and empowering terrorists to keep oppressing the South, imagine how many are being employed on a daily basis to waste Nigeria's scarce resources?? PHAYOL81: Mr abroad traveller, you seem to make a big mount out of a little mole hill. Lagos was neglected and suffered because it was under the rules of individuals focusing their interest on creating another city right in the late 70s till the late 90s as I stated; and that's a different ball game from the time it got into the hands of people caring for its growth since the turn of the century despite still suffering the same neglect from the FG. Both situations had different results. The first incident saw its sharp decline because those at the heart of its management were only enriching themselves while the other has seen its resurrection into the limelight of progressive development simply because these set are developments-oriented. And how much did you know about the abroad you boast about How many countries have you visited Anyway, that's not the point of contest now. You should know Lekki peninsula generally is a new development and to burst your bubbles, there are developments around Lagos now with 24/7 power supply, water and sewage treatment plants, wastes to energy plants and quality standards of living. Perhaps, you might have to google Alaro city, Mayeegun beach estate, Osolu city, iibc, orange island, periwinkle island, Ikoyi foreshore estate, diamond island, upcoming Adron Eko city, Carlton estate, banana island and the almighty Eko Atlantic City among others. Chill buddy, Lagos is not there yet but it's definitely bridging the gap between itself and a true smart city development. And that's what that matters. Again, Lagos would never experience stagnation because its positioning itself for self sufficiency. All of the above and you couldnt answer the simple of question of why Lagos may not stagnate again? Mountain out of a mole hill? Thousands died due to the needless criminality of that period. I lost an Uncle to armed robbers who invaded his home during that era. I lost an Aunt to a car accident caused by poor roads back then. So the economic crisis of that era certainly wasnt a mole hill. Also if London and New York can stagnate, why cant Lagos? You even noted Lagos currently isnt self sufficient as it is merely "positioning itself for self sufficiency." You have exhausted my patience. The younger gentlemen earlier showed more intelligence and understanding than yourself. You poked at how well travelled I am. I am a software engineer and a financier. I come from a well to do mercantalist family although I am not a patch on my Grandfather & Father who achieved more than I possibly will. In terms of major cities, almost every one. From the Europe, Middle East, North America and Asia. The only region I have not travelled is Latin America and India. Never got round to the former and because of how the latter treats our people I have no interest in the latter.. You realise my family live in Ikoyi and Lekki. Banana Island, along with property off Bourdillon and Phase 1. Private companies providing limited power generation and bore holes providing water alongside untreated sewage pouring into the Lagoon cannot be compared to centralised ultilities in cities like London. Also do less fortunate Lagosians in parts of the mainland have access to 24/7 electricity or clean tap water as their poor equivalents do in London? No.. So please stop with your nonsense. What cities have you seen outside of Nigeria? Probably just Eko and yet you talk.. Have good day. All future posts will be ignored.. |

plaindealer: You said the FG could starve Lagos state of funds again and I asked you to explain how not to post irrelevant essay.
Just explain to us in clear terms how the FG could starve Lagos state of funds. Go back and reread my earlier posts and understand why due to politics Lagos ended up being left out in the cold in the first place.. Northerners only every engage in public spending for the SW and more importantly Lagos to maintain their influence and carry favour for elections. It helps them maintain their political dominance. As Yoruba are increasingly turning their backs on Northern elites ala sunday igboho. Northerners may abandon the South West much like they have abandoned the South East, if they cannot carry political influence there via public spending. You have implicitly accepted Lagos isnt financially independent of federal allocations. So if funding falls due to politics, which is very much is possible. Lagos could then stagnate. Combine that with an economic shock like covid19 and watch how quickly that would occur.. Now prove to me why this could not occur...? Or how Lagos can weather any economic storm, given its limited economic foundations..? (Relatively poor infrastructure, weak institutions and current lack of economic muscle when compared to other large cities globally of a similar size) |

If Lagos could engaged in massive infrastructural revamp then and still have the liberty to do free medical services for people with visual impairment, with glasses donated to the patients, then, I don't see it stagnant because the same thing occurred against it especially now that it's created multiple revenue generating sources making it much more financially stable than it ever was in the past. Don't confuse yourself, Lagos ain't stopping progression for anything: it's a moving train. May God continue to bless Lagos state Eko Oni Baje o... What makes you think that wouldnt happen again?? Mtcheww.. As I said earlier, Lagos is increasingly less dependent on the federal allocation, but it isnt out of the woods yet. Not by a long shot.. You obviously havent spent time abroad. Where is the 24/7 electricity, world class water treatment and sewage infrastructure. plaindealer: How? This is not 1999 when Lagos state was at the mercy of the FG for every kobo.
Tinubu saw the danger and vulnerability when Lagos state was generating measly N500 million per month and deice the best plan ever to slowly and deliberately achieve financial independence.
From a very poor state with the largest population in Nigeria generating just N500 million in 1999 to almost independent with N418 Billion IGR, more than the entire North, SS and the SE.
Lagos state is the least dependent state on FG allocation so I don't know exactly what you are talking about. I do know what I am talking about as I have lived in major cities like London and New York. Both were global giants outdoing any other major cities on almost every measure. Number of billionaires FDI Number of global company Head Quarters etc All it took was the Coronavirus to lay both of these cities low. Lagos is indeed increasingly becoming less dependent on Federal allocations, but as I pointed out to the younger poster it isnt independent yet. All it would take is similar budget shortfalls, probably combined with an external economic shock to push Lagos into decline again. London is currently begging the national uk govt for funds. While New York went from a slight budget surplus to watching a massive deficit grow as the virus kicked in. These cities started from a far superior economic position than Lagos and you're acting as if Lagos is immune to any economic headwind. Sorry bros it isnt.. Cities benefit from clustering and agglomeration effects, but they are surprisingly more fragile than you would think.. You're entitled to be proud of Lagos, but dont confuse pride with being a substiture for economic realities.. |

PHAYOL81: Stop spreading misinformation. Even though you're right about Abuja being carved out for the FCT in the late 70s hence the concentration of the common wealth on the new city which in a nutshell led to the abandonment of Lagos state facilities and development by the FG but it's quite wrong to attribute the recovery phase to a baseless focus from the central government. Point blank, Lagos suffered slow development during its FCT days and lost a sizeable number of FDI too. The progress pre-independence was quite commendable hence the numbers of foreign investment in the land but FG made lots of poor decisions which led to the reductions in these investments as well as the local ones. Economy suffered greatly as a result of this unstable government policies. By the time it was ready for the fourth republic, the infrastructural deficit has been absolutely obvious especially when there was unstoppable increments in the population despite. The Tinubu administration took up a crumbling city but quickly corrected the mistakes mostly committed by the military leaders. Note that the FG ceased fund into the state coffers despite the state itself generating a massive revenue for the FG outside oil but with the acumen of Tinubu, the recovery started. Roads were being reconstructed in portions the people were never accustomed with. Heritage centers were being revamped; workers salary which has been problematic became constant ever since; working conditions in the state started impressive improvement; introduction of free medical care started for residents (with JIGI BOLA- a program targeted at optical patients); town planning improved; the state industrialization enliven again and the state introduced partnership programs to accelerate development. Remember, all these started from Tinubu administration even without FG allocations even though when fund was later released during Fashola era, things accelerated greatly. But it was nothing bigger than they shared to other state. And mind you, Lagos state was opposition to the central government all these while. Did Lagos stagnated then So stop spreading misinformation about FG funding Lagos state since Fashola and stop your useless argument about non- happening Lagos stagnation. Your evil wish over the state would never come to pass. God bless Lagos state God bless all South Western States of Nigeria God bless all Yoruba land You are ignoring the political angle.. Ajibel: I don't get. Are you insinuating that should Nigeria break up, Dangote will leave a refinery which he has committed lots of resources into moribund? Same Dangote that has lived in Lagos for over 30 years? Forget loyalty, Dangote is a business man and he wont see his business collapse and besides the Lagos govt will do all it can to protect the investment since they were the one (Fashola admin) that invited him to site his project in Lagos.
Then it's obvious you haven't been updated about the progress and what has been happening at Lekki Free Trade Zone. The Port component of the zone will start operation in the first quarter of 2023. The investors and financiers of the project has assured. You don't know what goes into building a sea port hence you claim there hasn't been any tangible development or do you think its something that could be built in 3 years from conception to completion?
What I can deduce from this is that you're not updated on what has been happening with Imota mill and the ongoing discussions around it. I cant blame you though. The govt either hasn't been doing enough to update people on the progress or you've missed updates about the project from the Ministry of Agriculture. But there has been lots of plans and policies already either being setup or in place to take advantage of the mill once its been completed. If you're in the agricultural sector, you'd be very much aware of these plans and polcies.
No problem then. The Lagos state govt shouldn't bother to build any new hospital to cater for kids and the unborn until the politicians stop traveling for medical tourism.
The red line just started. And alongside with the blue line, it'll be completed by the fourth quarter of 2022. Financing for both projects have been secured. You should have known Ambode didn't fund the blue line during his time hence the delay in completion. Except you've chosen to be pessimistic, give the current govt the benefit of a doubt that it'll be completed.
Eko Atlantic has been slow because of the economy. An improvement in the economy of Lagos will increase the purchasing power of the residents and they'll be able to afford houses in ECA and that'll in turn encourage investors to pump their money in.
These projects will come online and Lagos will prosper.

Ajibel: I only agree with a few points you stated but the conclusion you reached doesn't show why Lagos will stagnate because of the current reality on group per the infrastructural development that are in progress.
How will a state that is about to play host to the following in months to come stagnate: Dangote refinery and fertilizer Lekki free trade zone Lekki deep seaport Imota Rice mill Massey Children Hospital Blue and Red line for mass transit Eko Atlantic City & other artificial islands in development And the massive investment in water transportation amongst others.
When these projects come on stream and with the kind of revenue that is projected to be earned by the state which the government can then used for other developmental projects, I don't see how Lagos will stagnate in the next few years. Instead, Lagos will move towards total independence from the FAAC allocations with an increase in IGR generated from these infrastructures I love lagos and my Grandfather is buried in Ebute Metta. Dangote and fertilizer should indeed be a boon to Lagos if Nigeria holds together. Dangote as you know hails from Kano, his loyalty is with his people. Lekki Free Trade Zone much like light rail has been promised for years but yet to deliver. Lekki Deep Sea port. Much like the trade zone, lots of noise and ribbon cutting, byt no tangible development. Imota rice mill, a nice development. But we had much larger agri processing businesses in the past on the mainland, they were left to rot by the govt. Also there isnt that much money in primary production unless it is on a massive scale. Massey Children's hospital. Until the day Naija politicians stop flying abroad for medical treatment I dont care about local healthcare developments. Blue and Red line, You know better than to quote this one. How long have we been waiting for Lagos to have a metro jare. Go to marina and the same columns stand as they have done for years with no trains running on them. Eko Atlantic. I love this project, but remember this kicked off in 2007 and we are now at 2021. We have no more than five towers and not even all of the land originally outlined has been reclaimed. Eko Atlantic is great in theory, but without significant govt support like you see in Dubai, this project will continue to go no where. If these projecta come online, then yes Lagos will prosper. But as with all things Nigerian that is unfortunately a big IF.. |

Ajibel: Explain to us how you came to this conclusion that Lagos will stagnate? Ah you are too young to recall the period after the Northern Cabal needlessly moved the capital to Abuja. Despite promising that Lagos would retain a special status (enshrined in law). Funds previously allocated to Lagos as the nation's capital were diverted to Abuja. As a result the city began to stagnate. Infrastructure began to decay and criminality began to increase massively. This period resulted in the birth of the now infamous area boys, who previously would have found work in a functioning Lagos. The height of Lagos's demise was famously documented by Rem Kool Haas in the late 90s. His words not mine, " The real thing we tried to look at is what happens to a society when the state is absent. At that point, the state had really withdrawn from Lagos; the city was left to its own devices, both in terms of money and services" This period ran from the 80s and 90s, only arrested by political haggling and deft management by the Lagos State government under Gov Fashola. But lets be clear the extra funds received by Fashola, still pale in comparison to the funds sent to the likes of Kano, Kaduna and more importantly Abuja. Also the Northern Cabal only did it to placate Yorubas. If they won the North and SW, they maintained power. Now that Yorubas are increasingly turning their backs on the APC and Northerners in general, watch as those federal funds will dry up.. Mark my words.. |

armyofone: One thing I don't understand is why the Egyptians no long build pyramids. Did the technology and intelligence to build pyramids died with a specific group ?? Any idea ? Egypt was initially peopled by darker skinned africans who came from the horn of Africa. They probably looked like Eithiopians and Somalis with some other black groups mixed in. Sadly Ancient Egyptians were very inconsistent militarily, unlike the Nubians to the South who even checked the advance of the Roman Empire. By contrast after the old kingdom, Egypt suffered numerous invasions, starting with the Hyksos (Greek and Semitic People Arabs and Jews), hence the references in the Bible. The Egyptians themselves made note of the fact they allowed some of these peoples to settle in the North in their Hierogylphs. These people were immigrants into Egypt. This is the reverse of what is happening today with Africans now immigrating to the lands of people we formerly educated. Dont forget even in the Medieval period under the Malian empire, Timbuktu in Mali was also a global centre for learning, with texts found in Arabic and Hebrew alongside local scripts. Egypt suffered a number of actual invasions (where the enemy settled and occupied Egypt), by the Persians, Greeks, Romans, Arabs, French and British. With each invasion each enemy subtly changed and distorted the culture of Egypt. Even as far back as the Hyksos, there were riots and foreign elements briefly took control in lower Egypt (In the north of the country). It probably was down to a mix of cultural change and the rise of a multi ethnic society that reduced the desire for pyramid building in my opinion. In the South where more black populations existed. Pyramid construction continued unabated in what is now Sudan.. |
