rvp2018: Nope. Nairobi only problem has been to strictly separate office and residential zones. Now that tall apartments - 40 flrs are coming up in the business district- people can live and work in cities...without using anything but their bicycles or just walk - non-motorized. This reduces the need for transport for many - most big cities probably half transport needs because most people basically stroll from office to their tall apartments nearby.
Remember 40 floor building can squeeze in say 400 units - housing maybe 2,000 people. Try that in open spaces - it takes a lot of land. In Europe or name them - despite not having super-talls - pretty much everywhere is apartments - 5-10 floors tall - and then few rich guys in single dwelling units in suburbs - and farms pretty much in the city - because their cities dont sprawl into endless kilometres.
The more the city brawls - the more traffic you get. But if everyone lives a walking distance from the city - then majority - can walk to work - and few rich men can live in the suburbs.
True most developments coming up now are mixed use...more of a self sustaining community where you can live ,work ,shop and play eg GTC ,Two rivers etc.
NTSA: G3 though hugely underated still a favorite to many... Plus the scar H is slowly getting widely adopted. Also check the thermal scope rangefinders in the second pic ..
If you check photos from recent ops you will note wide spread use of optical scopes across all units from the police to kdf
kikuyu1: Forgot to mention. You can see BOTH Negev and Minimi 5.56 SAWs while the former is simply a copy of the latter! Also MG 3s, famed for reliability with a RoF of 1200 RPM, highest of any GPMG are also used. I heard last yr Kenyatta's Ruiru facility will this year upgrade to 7.62s and may drop the 5.56 mm which looks more likely after the US has finally dropped the M4. Imo the army will standardise with either licence built or indig clean sheet rifles from Ruiru.

kikuyu1: There've been many changes the past decade though things haven't been standardised. When the Som op kicked off they mainly had new US M4s with ONLY airborne and specops fielding SCAR Hs. However for obvious reasons a number kept their G3s and FNs with some sporting AKs. Of late even regular units are receiving FN Herstals much loved rifle while the M4 is thankfully falling out of favour. Fyi, the latter had a problem with the feed ramps. After 1 or 2 mags it would fail to feed: a smart KAFTEC cadet figured out it was the continuous vibration that worsened a micro millimetre misalignment likely during the machining process. Several guys got KIA cause of this. The section Carl Gustav was replaced with the RPG 7, which at 7 kg is half the weight. The GPMG remains the 240 though PKMs are also totted. For SAWs the HK 17 is near universal. I've heard your Y2 is much loved and is either about to be inducted or the process has begun but IDK for sure.
Baliv254: every time they talk rubbish i just go to front page of Nairaland and see countless crisis and decide to just stay quiet- no need to kick a dog while its down, very sad situation.
I also visit the front page once in a while that place is full of wierd shit.

kabe1: I don't think Russian military superiority is dead, I think the Russians would need to reorganize, and invest in ISR capabilities, UAS and UCAVs.
Compared to the Russian invasion of Georgia, the Russians are better armed and prepared, however the Ukrainians, unlike the Georgians, have had 8 years to fortify their defences, and the quality of their personnel.
From an African perspective, the war in Ukraine, and Ukrainian military experience should give us guidelines on how to fight a super power.
The Ukrainians were spending 8 billion a year on defence for the last 8 years, and they have an advanced defence industry.
Russian fieldcraft and tactics are still wanting .
kabe1: The Russian army has not done well in Ukraine.
Irrespective of the territorial gains of the Russian army, Ukraine still has an air force flying, complete with MIG-29s, SU-25's, SU-24s, MI-17s, UCAVs and MI-24 Attack helicopters.
That's a failure for Russia after 82 days of war.
The Russians have also been dealt defeat in Kharkiv city, that's another embarrassment for the Russian army.
The amount of armour the Russians have also lost is incredible, I don't trust the calculations of "Onyx" on Twitter as he shows bias towards the Ukrainians and cannot claim to be impartial in his count, but nonetheless Russian armour loses have been high.
If the Russians don't take Odessa, Kharkiv and the east of Ukraine, this military operation in Ukraine would be considered a defeat.
There are also reports that Putin is preparing for a long war ...either way the myth of Russian military superiority is long dead.
kikuyu1: But he blundered, Mzee! Kindiki Kithure would've been fairer to Mt Kenya east for their long standing loyalty and easier to market in 2032. Another Kikuyu (from Nyeri!) would be a hard sell; trust me.
Time will tell ..there is also the Kalonzo factor, I hear he is heading to the High court tomorrow
Great, I also find it interesting that these reports show Nigeria votes with the west more times than Kenya ...e.g from 2016 to 2020 Nigeria voted 94 times with the west while Kenya voted 78 times with the West / US. https://www.state.gov/voting-practices-in-the-united-nations/
Tinfoil: East definitely yes, with mutual respect. But west? Kenya is the only country that allowed it's president to go stand trial in the ICC. Most countries have great self-respect and national pride and would never allow themselves to be cuckold like this.
Imagine the reaction if Nigeria was ordered to take their president for trial in Europe
It's not about the reactions or being ordered by the West or East...it's about having legal obligations arising from our signature to the Rome statute that established the ICC.
Tinfoil: Nice Kenya makes their own drone. If they plan to make a bigger armed one, hopefully they will arm it with Chinese, Russian, or S.African munitions. Kenya is well know for cowering and rolling over for the west. That their British colonial masters still have military there shows how subservient they are
I think we have pretty solid relationship with both the West and the East .
Btw the drone displayed during uhuru's tour to Kws manyani camp was actually a clone of the aerostar dubbed "Tai". which have been in operation since 2010.They were used during the capture of Kismayu. *Compare and contrast
Lurker4Long: Because my company's clients do a great deal of business in Nigeria, Ghana and the greater ECOWAS region, I consume a lot of Nigerian and west African media content. I have not come across any official explanation of why specifically the Nigerian government voted with the West twice at the UN on Russia's aggression against Ukraine, and then abstained on the 3rd instance. I have my own hypothesis, which rightly, can change depending on more information coming to light. I shall therefore, refrain from putting my perspective forward, lest it contaminate this query.
So, from the Nigerians here, why do you think your government adopted the stance it did? Why, with all the knowledgeable facts did they vote the way they did on those 3 occasions? Why can't I find any public explanation of their shifting stance? Last, in the absence of opinion survey data, what is your sense of public opinion on the issue?

Am not Nigerian but I thought you should also consider that..every resolution to be adopted was different from the other...making them to have different "weights".. e.g voting Russia out of the Humanitarian council was different from Voting to Condemn the Russian agression in Ukraine. Thus not all abstentions were equal.
