PoliticsRe: Is Gej's Popularity Winding Down On Facebook? by NumberOne2(m): 11:13pm On Jan 07, 2011
He doesn't have to be popular on fb. I DARE any Nigerian politician to go on fb. Imagine OBJ or IBB on fb. They'll get so many reports that fb will close their accounts. Guys leave fb, register and vote. eod.

First of all, I want to thank Henry Okah and his team for bringing first KIDNAPPING and then BOMBING to Nigeria while he lives in safety in South Africa. He may be safe now, but there are folks that will make sure he gets a taste of his own medicine. Mark my words.

Grow up. Some folks like privacy, some don't. Know your gal and stop complaining.
HealthRe: Tips On Gaining Weight by NumberOne2(m): 10:10am On Dec 29, 2010
Had that problem once, its easy but it'll cost you a bit. Avoid pills and just take natural stuff with fat and cholesterol (mind you, its not good for your health). E.G eggs. FRY not boil 5 eggs a day with bread for 90 days, drink malt often (don't mix them). Stay indoors and eat normally food rations no need to over feed, you'll just increase your stomach. Hope you come back to thank me.

A project like this has to start underground first. All that is needed is a message board site like NL and FB and the likes. Lets folks drop ideas and interact. NO govt crap. Then based on its success or failure after about 6 or 9 months, we may proceed or discontinue.
You cannot start investing when you don't know the scale of the project.
P.S: Seun doesn't have join if he's not interested.

ProgrammingRe: Nairaland For Blackberry by NumberOne2(m): 8:10am On Dec 26, 2010
@sweet-pawn, why would you design a NL app without informing the owners of the site? Well, I think you're lucky. In some countries you'll be in jail right now. I'm sure you tried to sell the apps and make money off NL, whereas NL is FREE.

I don't use a blackberry but if bb's cannot post on nairaland them I guess their browsers are useless. I made this post from my phone using opera mini. I know mtn has blocked opera on phones which is unfortunate but geez, why have a 60 grand phone that can't post on nairaland?
@Seun, you should consider a more comprehensive mobile site, NOT just for bb's , The world is shifting.

Are you a government official? Cos only one can suggest a "Programmers Conference" when we have discussion boards and chat rooms. An ICT conference will be more appropriate.
RomanceRe: hmm by NumberOne2(m): 10:58am On Dec 24, 2010
@freecocoa, pls with this state of mind DO NOT get married cos you're going to ruin your marriage.
My advice, go and see a shrink cos this is a psychological problem.
If you are serious about forgetting this dude (that doesn't love you), write down all the bad things he did to you (surely he wasn't perfect like me) and paste next to your mirror. Within a month if you're serious he'll be history.

ProgrammingRe: How To Create And Programme Sms And Send To People Who Subscribed. by NumberOne2(m): 11:38pm On Dec 21, 2010
No offence, but I don't think you understood what you read.
The software is useless without an SMS gateway or Shortcode from the network. Its like having a phone without a sim card and expecting to make calls.

Google the word "SMS Short code". Lots of materials to read.
ProgrammingApps For Android Or Iphone, Which Is Better For The Nigerian Market? by NumberOne2(op): 1:57pm On Dec 17, 2010
Globally the craze is about mobile apps. I always consider the business part of development before I begin. Java is the most popular in Nigeria no doubt (considering that Nokia and Blackberry both support java). I did some Java apps which are doing better than I expected in the Nigerian market. Check them at http://www.greenspek.com.. These apps are tailor specifically to the Nigerian market cos I honestly don't see them selling outside Nigeria.

However, I have some app ideas (with global appeal) which I want to sell in Nigeria and other countries and I don't think Java will do the magic.
I'm looking for a platform that will cut across both markets (local and foreign).

I think the key question is: Which phones are more popular in Nigeria, iphones or andriod phones?
CareerRe: Arik Air An Organisation Without Structure by NumberOne2(m): 1:38pm On Dec 17, 2010
I it difficult to say if this story is true or not. I've learnt in life that every story has 2 or more versions. But if its true then its pathetic. However I don't believe that this is perculiar to Arik air. The entire airline industry is in crisis globally and Nigeria is not an exception. Recently British Airway staff went on strike.

Nigerian airline operators have been clamouring for bailouts. Perhaps this is why. I think most airline staff/unions will prefer delayed salaries to downsizing (which is unfortunate). Any attempt to downsize may lead to strikes.

But like I said earlier, there are two or more versions to every story.
CareerSo Whats All The Fuss About A Bank Job? by NumberOne2(op): 1:28pm On Dec 17, 2010
I don't know why almost every graduate wants to work in a bank. There is a misconception here. The money clients deposit in the bank is not for the bankers, it still is owned by the client. Their salaries are nothing to write home about added to the stress and pressure.

The only advantage I may say is they have loan facilities (which have interest). You can take a car loan or house loan and pay over time (years). So what great about driving a car that you haven't paid for?

My gal is a banker. My kid brother is a banker. They are both currently looking for other jobs. So tell me, whats all the fuss about?
CareerRe: Rich Dad Poor Dad - An Impractical Book by NumberOne2(m): 1:18pm On Dec 17, 2010
@kambo, I think the bottom line is take whatever you can that works for you in the book. The dude is into real estate and stocks. Fine. You don't have to do that also, all rich guys aren't into real estate.

The most important things I got from that book are:

* Success of failure are all in the mind.
* Your salary job cannot make you successful.
* Investing your savings is better than just saving cos the former yields more interest.

The dude may have spiced the book up to make more sales, Ok, but you don't have to agree with all his points. Take some and walk away. Unless you want to do all he says then you can as well be his Nigerian clone.
CareerRe: Rich Dad Poor Dad - An Impractical Book by NumberOne2(m): 2:22am On Dec 16, 2010
@kambo, Rome wasn't built in a day. I've been in abuja for about a year and land is expensive. But there are places where you can get a plot for N50k or less. This are undeveloped areas. People look down on it now, but in 5 years, plots can be selling for N800k or more and its going to keep increasing.

I know civil servants that came to abuja in the 90's and bought cheap land then with their small salaries. Now those place have now become highly developed and plots are selling for millions now. The problem is folks just want to hit it big at one go, life's not like that. You have to build and wait for it to mature.

A Chinese proverb: The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the second best time is now.

PhonesRe: Glo Launches Dstv Mobile by NumberOne2(m): 1:56am On Dec 16, 2010
With the current price of GPRS in this country, I don't think this idea will work. How much do they intend to charge per month? Plus they have limited themselves to a specific phone. So which is better, buying the Nokia phone or buying the DSTV dish?
ProgrammingRe: What Makes A Software Marketable? by NumberOne2(m): 1:17am On Dec 16, 2010
If the software meets a NEED in the market, it will sell. If it doesn't meet a need, it will just be another LUXURY item. Many Nigerians cannot afford luxuries. Program for NECESSITIES or else do it for fun and give the software out FREE.
ProgrammingRe: Why Are Nigerian Programmers So Smart? by NumberOne2(m): 1:08am On Dec 16, 2010
I think the dude has a point. Most programmers forget about the marketing aspect. Why make an APP that cannot sell? Or better yet, if you know it wouldn't sell then make it FREE. I challenge Nigerian programmers to come up with innovative ideas that beat our current challenges.

Example,

1) If internet connection is poor, you can have a software that relies less on the internet, or better yet make the app such that you can work offline for a while then go online. This reduces cost of internet access and will make the app more marketable than the foreign ones that rely on internet connection 24/7.

2) I see a lot of sites that are beautiful but no one gets to see them cos they are too heavy. Our internet speed here is generally slow. Why not design sites with less graphic and more content. Its better than having a beautiful heavy site that keep loading for 5 minutes.
INNOVATION and MARKETING are the backbone of any business, the programming business is not an exception.

ProgrammingRe: Mobile Phone Apps For Nigeria by NumberOne2(op): 2:23pm On Oct 28, 2010
Thanks guys. Most telecom companies aren't interested in stuff like this yet. They feel the app market is still young in Nigeria. I intend to proove them wrong.
Tech JobsRe: I Need A Software/game That Is Originally Built By You.urgently by NumberOne2(m): 2:19pm On Oct 28, 2010
I'll advice that you leave those Commercial banks alone. They rather prefer to work with multinationals, Microsoft, Cisco and the likes. It will be hard to sell a software to them without some kind of foreign partner.
Try selling to MFB's or Business schools, small companies. They are local and may be interested. However will pay less than you expect.
Tech JobsPhone Street Maps Of Nigerian Cities, No Internet Connection Needed by NumberOne2(op): 2:13pm On Oct 28, 2010
Download java apps of detailed Street maps of Abuja and Lagos Island with locations, Fire stations, police stations, Hotels, Leisure spots, Malls plus navigational directions between two locations all without an internet connection. The entire map is already in the app. Just download and use.
Its not free, but it has a trial period. http://www.greenspek.com
Other free apps available at the site.
