Education / Re: A Thread For Medical Rehabilitation ( Physiotherapy) Students by nurain150(m): 6:17pm On Dec 09, 2021
RoastedCorn:
physiotherapy is not like dentistry and optometry . . people over the years have always compared dentistry to optometry without knowing its full entirety.

1. Dentistry is a 6 year course, the only course that's a medical specialty(like doing the whole of medicine then specializing in teeth),Dentists are to be compared with opthalmologists not optometrists.

2. the salary scale for doctors(medicine and dentistry) in Nigeria is called CONMESS which is slightly higher than other health care professionals like optometrists, Physiotherapists,Radiographers,Medical lab scientists and the rest that operate on CONHESS.

3. optometrist are only confused with opthalmologists and dentist because they also answer the title "Dr." but optometrists only make glasses for people with eye defect, its is only an opthalmologist (a medical doctor that specializes in the eye) that can perform surgery on the eye.

4. you mentioned something about physiotherapists specializing in paediatrics, orthopeadics ,neurology e.t.c ,well that's not really true ,I get your point though but you would confuse an average Nigerian. Physiotherapists only specialize in a medical specialty's therapy. for example, a doctor will specialize in paediatrics but a physiotherapist would specialize in pediatric therapy, a physiotherapist can also specialize in dental therapy, a doctor will specialize in orthopaedics but a physiotherapist would specialize in orthopaedic therapy (the specialty that makes most Nigerians think that physiotherapy is just the massage of body parts not knowing there is more to it). specialization in medicine and dentistry takes up to 5-8 years but that of physiotherapy is 3-4 years(not very sure though).

5. DPT is doctor of physiotherapy, currently its only offered by few countries as a 6 year degree ,in Nigeria it is after the completion of your BPT that you can be given a DPT which is after you specialize in an aspect of physiotherapy.

6. there are also consultant physiotherapists too but they don't receive same range of salary as their medical and dental consultants.

i'm not trying to place any course above the other but making valid points and facts . . hope this helps

lol takes up to 5-8 years because you keep failing.

Education / Re: Total Ban Of Bullying In Nigerian Schools by nurain150(m): 10:59pm On Dec 08, 2021
Seun:
In the wake of the brutal beating of Sylvester Oromoni in the hands of his fellow students, which led to his death, I think we need to advocate for a complete ban on the despicable culture of bullying prevalent in Nigerian primary and secondary schools and boarding houses that contributed to his death.

The Federal Ministry of Education should immediately introduce a regulation banning students in primary or secondary schools (including school prefects) from beating or punishing other students in any way or for any reason, or forcing them to run errands. Students should only be punished or sent on errands by school staff, who are old enough to bear the full legal consequences of their actions.

Parents don't send their kids to school to be used as slaves, and brutally punished by other students. They send them there to be educated. Bullying and being bullied are distractions which should no longer be tolerated in this country. Any student that tries it must face suspension. Any school that permits it should have to pay a hefty fine that is proportional to the school's revenue.

We have been crying about justice for Sylvester Oromoni for many days now, and rightly so, but justice in one case won't stop other incidents from happening. We need to tackle the root cause which is the culture of exploitation and victimization of junior/weaker students by senior/stronger students. Let's quickly ban it at this crucial time when everyone is disgusted by bullying, bullies, and schools that enable them.

Bullying can't stop so far It's from teachers and lecturers

Lol oo me na regular guy ooo.
Lucrativeness means that there is a regular income(somewhat steady) and relevant in any place. But the problem people misquote lucrativeness is"Money dey inside oo and we must chop am" thinking doing something is a source of a mighty income and they can go extra length( wrong doing to make it). That is why you see some Doctors doing abortions regularly to make more money and Nurses as well OR they profer CS for pregnant even though they are alright or any form surgery to gain more money or Pharmacists importing banned drugs or wrong drugs many more...
As for the north, Drug stores are not so common(except aboki) and Community Facilities are more. Another reason is that sometimes, Doctors may not be around and nurses may be too busy, So, The pharmacist prescribe drugs and administer them.
U know say for south, nurses dey prescribe drugs well, 2mins consult and straight to the nurse for drugs. For the north you talk with patient and prescribe drugs if you feel it is not right on the Doctors path and many more....
Guy have you gotten admission. Don't take advice from this dude lol. He hasn't gotten admission.
Career / Re: Why Is A Medical Doctor Placed Higher Than A Newly Employed Lecturer With A Ph.d by nurain150(m): 1:56am On Dec 08, 2021
MrEgghead:
I recently got to know that a Doctor after NYSC is placed on CONMESS 3 which is equivalent to Grade level 13 and a newly employed Lecturer with Ph.D is placed on CONUASS 3 which is equivalent to GL 10 in the public service.

I don't think it's fair enough looking at the number of years and resources you've to sacrifice before you can bag a pH.D

Is there any explanation?

No you start on CONMESS one.

But CONHESS 10 for Pharmacist. That's why most proffeisional aren't practising.

yes abroad. you still haven't told me how separation is there in Nigeria where you open a clinic and put one ND holder in charge of the pharmacy. it's not a crime for one ND holder to be in charge of your Pharmacy but it's a crime for the pharmacist to prescribe!!!

that was why I raised that issue in the post you quoted

And it's a crime for inhouse Dispensing lol.

Here we go again. Instead of these two Professionals always at each others throats, trying so hard to reignite their childish rivalry at every slightest opportunity, flexing their over bloated egos and engaging in Tom and Jerry roforofo gutter fights, thereby disgracing their generations, to go and find cutting edge medical breakthroughs or finding cure and vaccine for corona virus through rigorous research work, they are here making noise over who is the Boss. Your profession don't inspire confidence again especially here in Nigeria. Our Doctors always ignorantly and stupidly think they are better than other professional especially experienced Nurses and Pharmacists just because they spend 6 years in School, have Ministers of Health at their beckon and could maul and discredit the vital role played by other Professionals. Their desperate attempt to block other Professionals from becoming Consultants and attaining certain feats had only shown their height of insecurity and loss of vision and purpose. They are now becoming more of a politician and Business men whose only interest is in setting up of Private medical outfits while working in FG Teaching Hospitals, engaging in untoward practices for maximum gain, diverting grants for International donors and foundations to personal escrow accounts. Even Politician no longer trust the dedication and commitment to their profession, reason for high rate in medical tourism and large capital outflow from Nigeria.

Do I begin to mention cases of gross incompetence of Doctors I am privy to. The embarrassing cases of carelessness that lead to death and irreparable injuries to patients and terminal damages done to them in a desperate attempt at cover ups? The many oversights, recklessness and deliberate unprofessional conducts of these people and many cases of corruption perpetrated by our Medical Experts in Teaching Hospitals by CMDs and High Ranking HODs.

You guys should go and work on your profession because nobody trust Nigerian Doctors again. Let me state here there are good, competent, committed ones among you but we both know that they are fewer partly because of the low remunerations, hectic work load, and unfavourable condition of service( which many other Professionals endure anyways). Those who are using you guys are doing that because they got no choice and stop further bringing yourselves into more scrutiny, ignominy by exposing your unclothedness in the public abeg.

Mbediogu:
Employment and job creation is a live issue world over. Vet medicine is a core profession. To me, apart from nursing it is the nearest to human medicine - even more than pharmacy. I remember a few years ago in Min of Health Imo State when a Vet doctor displaced a pharmacist to become perm sec.
The Min of Agric where the vet rightly belong is mainly agrarian especially in the South of Nigeria. In developed countries where rich zoos and animal reserves kept, equine and other animal sports and shows are practiced, the vet find more jobs. The solution is to diversify and become all you can - as they say in the army.
On a lighter note, let me ask my numerous vet doctor friends the questions I have always asked them - why do you charge me 2000 per shot of DHPP-L each time I bring my dogs for vaccination? Why do you eat some of your patients (chicken, goats, rams, and cows) during festivities? Are you not creating patient distrust and reducing the number of your clients? Cheers!

IMO ministry?

Hahaha... This is not computer or ICT related. You obviously don't know about the course and obviously you didn't read the part where he said he reads for 17 hours daily. That's how intense Pharmacy Is as a course and why the failure is high in Pharmacy schools.

He would have failed if he didn't read that hard ! Medicine would have only helped him in Pharmacology and some part of Clinical pharmacy, the rest about 75% of the course content ,including Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutics, Forensic Pharmacy Laws etc, are completely different.

That is why Pharmacy Is not under the College of Medicine wink Don't confuse Pharmacy for the others that are usually part of the College of Medicine.

Don't mind him. We have previous degree holders in the faculty and they ace well than us.
