Old cars in Nigeria equals old troubles the major problems with old cars is parts in Nigeria, where to source good parts, if you can import. good but then only for vintage cars that are valuable as they age. There use to be many 70s and 80s vehicle in Abeokuta made by nissan/datsun but they are worth peanuts

For people laughing at old cars depends on the condition, if your car is smoking and its push to start people go laugh you nah

But when your old car is clean and in good condition people go now and respect you

Engine oil degrades whether used or not. For full synthetic oil we usually recommend 6months or 8,000km whichever comes first.

Though some oil manufacturers recommend 10k to 15k miles but because of the Nigeria weather and driving dynamics it is advisable not to use upto that.

Prevention is better than cure also a brandnew car is different from a tokunbo car.

When I removed the negative terminal, car was still running but the battery indicator light was still there.

I will request the electrician comes with a multimeter to test.

Yes when battery isn't present the battery indicator would come on as long as car is still running the alternator is good.

The only issue here maybe if alternator isn't giving the required output to charge the battery which will be evident as battery won't start vehicle when parked for long

Good morning Gazzuzz, Nurey, jceesquare et al.

I started my car this morning and I noticed the battery indicator light didn’t disappear as usual.

I drove the car to the office (15mins drive).

I called an electrician and he ask me to remove the negative terminal from the battery, I did and the battery indicator light was still there.

He told me that the issue is the alternator.

I off the car for about 15mins. When I want to go out, I cranked the car and the battery indicator disappeared as usual, I drove for 10mins and still the indicator did not appear.

Should I still replace the alternator or I should drive for some time?

You may have a short circuit let them check, normally the crude way to check alternator is to start a vehicle and remove the negative terminal. If the car dies, alternator is bad if the car is still working alternator is good.

Normal way is to use multimeter to test the out put of an alternator. Let a rewire help u check sha

We know that it is overhyped and it is giving us headache but are there no solutions ? Buying a a used gear box for a 2018 Highlander for 2.5m is scary. Yes toyota is overpriced in Nigeria compared to other competitors.

As a seasoned technician that you are. You should rather investigate the reason for the failure a working gear box with no known defect won't pack up.

The said a replacement gear cost 2.5m for a car that cost close to 15m + I think that price is fair considering the vehicle is still less than 5years and a replacement gear will certainly have low miles.

Before you complain though concerning replacement cost, let's know what the competition replacement cost would be for cars in same category.

Those nissan don't have CVT and those with CVT like sentra and altima those year CVT have no problem

No, it does not jump gears. When it wants to switch from either 2 to 3 or 3 to 4, it revs high to around 4rpm before it changes.

and I scanned, ecm/pcm control relay circuit and Oxygen sensor. Nothing more.

You need a high level scanner to pick up codes from transmission but your transmission is faulty but better to scan first before attempting trial and error

Yeah , the guy tampered with my obd2 port and I am not getting power. He is going to rectify that today so I can scan.

as for the trans. I got the car like that. I have drained and refilled with total fluidmatic and same issue persists. it revs to 4k rpm then it changes to gear 4, sometimes from 2 to 3..

Is it that the transmission is jumping gears? Like moving from 2 to 4 evading 3, you may need to scan transmission too

Thanks Boss, na only you reply. I got a good Rewire guy to fix the fuse box and the issue stopped.

The car is a conversion, that's why I'm getting these electrical issues.

I have 2 pending issues now.

First is, the car hesitates. I've changed spark plugs changed fuel pump twice..

I want to tell my mechanic to clean the throttle body and air intake.

Secondly, The Engine revs high when it wants to change gear. This action is spontaneous though.

What do you advise sir?

For the 1st issue I would advise a scan first if possible that will help narrow down diagnosis.

For 2nd how high does it rev? Anything around 4 to 5k rpm b4 changing gear nah issues, then you have to start from small check ATF level, check ATF color and if possible drain ATF and refill with original honda DW1 atf

You should be able to get honda at that price point honda CRV 2003 to 2005 tokunbo for 3m

For sedan useful for fuel.economy and uber hustle civic/jazz/city would suffice 2006 to 2010 model years.

Most of the vehicle imported are salvaged, the gear system is already faulty from abroad because of the accident they were involved or the handling they received at the auction yard, to trucking and shipping carelessly till they got to nigerian soil. It's just unfortunate ot packed up in the hands of the current user.

2. Poor maintenance, I always change all the fluids of the vehicle I just acquired, for tokunbo I wait after 6months for naija used within a week some people are afraid and would rather use the tokunbo fluid like that not knowing the condition the vehicle came at, they won't even guage the fluid hence damage occurs.

3. Bad or ill trained technician plus high cost of goods in our country is also a major factor, the I'll trained technician love dextron III fluid like kilode because it is cheaper and readily available. Cost too sometimes chases owners away dextron III for 2000 sienna b4 was 800naira, it's now 2k for 1L while texamatic was 3500/L b4, it's now 8k/L. Honda DW1 was 4k/L while dual pump II axle fluid was 3500/L now both are 8k yo 8500/L and minimum wage still dey 30k ooo intruder to cut cost, sharp practised are bound which leads to failure on the long run.

4. The country is not yet ripe for those advanced technologies, the roads needed, fluids needed, competent hands needed are scarse resources go Mobil and Total nah 20w50 full their line up. We don't manufacture the necessary things needed to keep those cars on road infact since 1980s, nigerian tech space has been degrading and reason why at many mechanic workshops, you find high end vehicles abandoned there due to lack of spare parts or technical know how.

The car can wade through flood no issue there, used to enter knee level flood with mine and engine never spoil.

Car parts are expensive now, so if the engine is 600k I don't doubt it, used to be 3xx,Bleep when dollar was 320 and fuel was 14x naira per litre.

Overall they are good vehicles when in good condition the only reason I hate those bought brandnew in Nigeria is because of the temperature indicator, severe damage would have been done b4 the red light shows and by then too late sef engine would never remain same.

If you can get a tokunbo unit I mean the north American variant with normal temp guage you will enjoy the car. Also avoid hyundai accent it's a Rio but with EPS which will bankrupt you eventually

If your battery is strong and your vehicle doesn't do parasitic drain, the battery would still maintain its juice for a week or more.
During raining season its advisable to charge the battery often because low temperatures affect battery performance.

Best practice though is to remove the terminals from the battery for cars in storage (long parking due to no or less use by owner)

Your location too far we may not be able to deal for certain reasons.

1. Go to settings and set your APN no APN no internet even if it is enabled.

3. Try and reduce some settings on the phone like screen brightness I think the S7 edge experience some hotness due to metallic body, buy plastic casing to mitigate against it and reduce some background apps that uses much power.

5. Try and save the USSD as contact b4 dialing it will go normal with some continent variant phones

6. Like I said give a technician to install international rom on it to enjoy the phone and fix 4 and 6 issues

The variant you bought is Asian one. You can give a technician to flash it for you and load a NA rom on it.

Though if the booyloader is unlocked, you can root it, install TWRP and then download a stable rom like Lineage OS which will enable you enjoy the phone etc but since you aren't tech savvy go and give a technician

check the fuse box wiring, i have noticed loose wiring from my honda before which was making the connection of a fuse disengaged. If you change fuse and the problem persists then you have to check the fusebox itself and the fusebox wiring.

They gave my the piston and the diameter of the piston it 85mm. The old ring is 2mm thick. I heard them say 010, 020, i don't know what they mean. Please which brand of rings will last very long for me? I want the best quality for my engine. Please I need your suggestions.

It's better you follow the mechanic to the market that way he can determine what exactly you need to buy but you ask the store owner for the best quality brands available.

Going to buy what you have no idea about is a waste of time and resources.

3. Tank bolt under the car.
The fuel tank has a drain bolt under the vehicle, use you spanner to loosen it and find a rubber paint bucket to help drain the content. I dont always advice this often because if the bolt slacks or you damage the washer of the bolt, it's a fire waiting to happen when leaks trickle from there.

4. The generator trick
Unbolt your generator tank or carry the whole generator in your vehicle they will dispense it to you.

Truly manual transmission is suffer head until you decide to park and buy something yo eat after a 10hrs non stop driving. After eating you hop into your car try to start and engine doesnt roll, the time is already 7:30pm, you find kazeem and you were told he went for prayer. At after 8pm he shows up but can't fix the kick starter because emeka don close shop teh teh.

Its is almost 9pm in an unknown area and you just heard Oro is about to cry that's when you will regret not buying a manual transmission vehicle (true life story)

Yours is the 2.0L petrol engine yes with another space for 2nd set of plugs to deal with emission.

Unfortunately it's a FWD without rear axle so carrying load when stocked maybe limited except kazeem finds a way to replace the springs and undercarriage points etc.

So our FORD ESCAPE 2002 model needs an engine replacement but it seems difficult to get the engine presently so a mechanic advised we should purchase the FORD ESCAPE 2005 model engine instead so I'm curious to know whether to follow this advice or not. So car gurus or anyone with experience on this matter should please advise.

2002 to 2004 was 2.0L engine for 4cylinder
2005 to 2007 was 2.3L engine for 4cylinder
2002 to 2007 had 3.0L v6 engine in all.

If yours is a 4 cylinder then you will need some modifications before the 2005 engine will work including replacing ECU, mounts, throttle body etc.

standalone basic scanners are just plug and play abi plug and use, they have screen to relay info but basic because they can only do basic scanning onlike what big car technicians use or dealerships.
