Hi All

I noticed this thread has been quiet but very useful in the life of those of us that have diesel cars.

I have a BMW X5 e70 3.0D and now I am having the first major issue with the engine - The Valley Pan seems to be leaking coolant.

Ofocurse every mechanic in Lagos runs away from Diesel.

Please does anyone here have a similar car or can point me in the direction of a good mechanic? I hope its not a tough question!! haha!!

Depends on what vehicle you're driving and the kind of plate number you have.

If your vehicle is still very fresh and neat with shinning color customs go stop you.

If your plate number is less than a year hold, custom go stop you for Lagos plate any H& you would be stopped by customs and police for sure.

If you drive luxury cars without escort custom go stop you like Range Rover, Gwagon, Lexus RX, BMW, benz even B200 got stopped at every custom checkpoint.

If you drive normal cars with load custom must stop you to know wetin you carry.

If you speed pass custom yo avoid being checked custom yo chase you and search your car for rice or contraband goods

I had an engine knock in April and I tried replacing it after a month. I got the new Opel engine and the mechanic successfully replaced the new one with the bad one. Now, after it was fixed, the working of the car was not really top notch like it was, before the engine got bad. The mechanic/Rewire started doing trial and errors on what could have went wrong (changing the brain box, coil and even the fuel pump). The car starts, and stops immediately you put it on drive, and for other times, it takes a while to start.

The person who actually did the engine conversion is not presently in the country. I don’t know if I can’t get any help here.

You cant get any much help because you dont actually need much help.

Mazda RX8 is equipped with a rotary engine with the tech extremely different from what kazeem is used to. Inserting an opel engine inside the vehicle is a wrong move.

Buy the exact engine if you can find it or afford it

Sell as is or store away buy another car and restore it later when you are buoyant enough.

To the best of my knowledge Abuja or Lagos plate doesn't matter, police go stop who dem go stop but Benin police are not hungry like Lagos police, they prefer to make friends with you so you can always roger when you pass. We dey carry Lexus RX pass and they only hail us as long as you comport yourself

Car onboard computer are the Nav screen, embedded in it is an mpg calculator that is controlled by the ECU. It isnt limited to only cars with Nav screen, I have seen such in a Mazda 626 wagon 2000 model with one small screen by the radio side.

Acar android app uses what you already have on your odometer. By full tank and measure its quantity as X litres, then reset the trip A or B to zero, drive till your reserve light comes on, pick the distance as Y kms. Then calculate how many Ykms your X litres of fuel gives you and you have A kms per B litres of fuel

Eg my accent is 40L full tank and I was able to cover 400km to reserve tank. Means my accent consumes around 8 to 10L per 100km journey

Overall, I’ll pick the FX35 over the RX350 because I prefer quality ride, handling, speed, peace of mind, and prestige in a car.

I was thinking that they don't have the same engine sitting.

The engine sitting is identical you need to swap some other things like throttle and sensor. On the long run it's better to buy the 06 own. The easiest thing would have been to swap internal engine part.

Good evening Nairalanders. And Toyota gurus I will be needing your advice once again . But this time is about security of this Toyota Camry 2010 how safe it is if parked in open area. Is very easy to steal from parking lots.

I was considering buying steering and pedal lock don’t know if is security is tight . And maybe tracker later after some months . Please house I will be very grateful if enough advise and recommendations can be given . Because if stolen i fit faint o �� . So please any advise would be welcome with great gratitude.

Steering and wheel lock would protect against unannounced car theft, that is a thief that just steals car by luck, as long as they have not monitored you enough to come with oxy_acetylene or metal saw.

Tracker is also good if well done it would enable you retrieve the vehicle but some daring robbers know how to trace the tracker and disable it.

The only protection that is solid is Almighty God or using dark forces because most cases of theft of Toyota are gun point. Always be watchful when driving and reduce night driving in some areas known to harbor criminals.

The differnt in fuel use is insignificant. I suggest you go for the V6... The 4 cylinder is prone to oil burn.... Uber ride are usually long ...

07 to 09 4cylinder is 2azfe 2.4L prone to oil burn

10 and 11 4cylinder is 2.5L 2arfe very solid engine

the diff btw the engines is hp and torque. every other thing is same compression , bore stroke etc. the engine is swappable

a v6 equipped engine on regular street legal cars is a no no for E-hailing and cab\taxi. Buy the 4cylinder though a compact sedan is better than the camry

your rav4 is equipped with electronic power steering not rack and pinion i dont see how shaft made it stiff

for the abs normally a scan would reveal the culprit but replace the sensor and see if all is well

The issue is the car has Lagos plate number and I am in Abuja, VIO here in Abj said that to do change of ownership and retain plate his data that is in lagos need to be erased that means the change of ownership is not possible here in Abuja only lagos can do it.


Or I should just forget the data that is in lagos and do Abuja plate registration.
