Good morning car gurus, I want to get a Benz A clas for my wife to use for schools and other daily runs, I don't see much other that car on the road. Apart from its fuel economy which is the main reason am going for it what other things is good about the car, are parts available and will the cost of maintenance break my pocket, please I need urgent answers from everyone with the experience on the particular, thanks

leave the camry except you are interested in fuel economy with the 2.4L i4, the volvo S80 is a sweetheart in metallic form, parts are available though not as easy as the camry but if you treat it well, the Volvo will do you good

don't wait for the color yo change but from what I notice
pink abi nah light red still good/fresh

light brown need to change this one will work along with year the fluid has stayed

black means all is not well.

I am much more interested in the reliability. It will be used for inter state travel occasionally so really wondering if there is anything i should be worried about. Cost of parts when compared to Camry of same year?? How is the transmission as i have read Honda has some poor transmission.

Others who have used this car

It is a reliable vehicle and has good fuel economy, acceleration is top notch and you won't have transmission problems as long as you don't utilize wrong transmission fluid even for 1 day. Change transmission fluid every year if possible or 1 and half years, any sound on the front legs should be checked and always better to buy tokunbo shaft than brand-new.

Never use rubbish power steering fluid, brake seldom gives issues because all 4 are disc no drum.

Engine is timing chain but the single drive belt should be changed when you notice issues.

Door and window electrical issues would come but can be easily fixed, ignition key teeth too fails often and has to be re- aligned key would pop out while engine is on, not a common occurrence.

Above all car is highly reliable and long distance capable

It's possible the engine cover was just swapped but the K24 with that silver cover is different from the black and even the black cover too are different. There are around 6 to 8 K24 engines all look alike but with different hp and some diff internal parts

Came across the vehicle for the first time ever in 2018 at Iwaya Lagos at the back of queens college lagos, thought it was one of those nonsense 4 banger BMW until a topic was opened about the vehicle with a V8 engine.

I still saw it a couple of times red colour and functional don't know whether it still there, I believe there is a bmw enthusiast there because there is also a Z3 around there too.

It's not steaming because there are no more rats living in the engine bay.

First one is far better because it has a temp gauge, the second one only has temp light which is rubbish because car would have overheat (damage done) before the indicator warns you

The wipers too are in the wrong position for a direct LHD that's another give away

The plate number holder is wider depicting UK vehicle and in UK they use RHD vehicles.

it's converted doesn't mean anything as it would be easy peazy converting the IS since LHD parts are bound in the market. The issue is if it was done well and only physical inspection and a test drive would determine that.

Stop arguing, accept the fact that it was converted you probably are a middleman and no crime in that either, focus on your sales, happy sales

Engine is available in Us spec tacoma , mostly single cabin versions. Not very common

I am not wrong Oga, it's one of the reasons, tokunbo of that engine doesn't come majorly from US let's forget about the fact that dollar is expensive. Yes tacoma was fitted with it, even the 2010 4Runner only before it was discontinued in the 4Runner.

Also 2016 upwards prado unfortunately no prado in US rather Lexus GX but not fitted in the Lexus.

The onlyv broad reason why the engine is that expensive is because it isn't available in many vehicle sold in US and vehicles as late as 2016 were still fitted with the 2TR, not because it is made of gold and silver.

That thing drinks oil like crazy,but it doesnt smoke.

you can't escape minor electrical issues, it shares parts with VW golf 4 and new beetle, engine 2.0 is aluminum don't let it overheat. I would prefer you buy a tokunbo but if naija used scrutinize it very well b4 payment.

You have always pushed the idea of rebuilding, I remember your 1GR thread for the 03 upward 4runner, is it that the 2TR can't be rebuilt or is rebuilding more expensive than fixing a 5VZ instead.

Why didn't you use the 1TR instead since the vehicle was fitted with it too.

The 5VZ was standard on the I think 98 to 2002 toyota hilux I believe if you get such specimen your other needs may be answered

don't forget to check the oil cooler lines if the highlander is a 3.5L V6, if it's rubber hose ensure that after buying it is replaced with metallic one cause if the hose fails oil would gush out from there without your knowledge and engine go knock pata pata

OP I feel your pain, I know what you are going through right now.
I must say that I am disappointed with the services you got and the explaination given by Radauto and some few people on this thread.

A motor vehicle today is one of the easiest machinery to troubleshoot and fix, this is why people without any form of education can do it by the road side without any complex tools.
I see a post where someone was trying to justify the poor service you got as the norm in engineering.

This is not true and I don't agree..if engineering is based on trial by error then airplanes will be falling from the sky every minute,cars will be falling apart every second and ships will be sinking every day.

I expect everyone involved in your bad experience to accept their flaws, apologize to you and make improvements for the future.

Also, I want you to have it at the back of your mind that expensive bills most times doesn't translate to a better service.

I believe it would help for them to tell the customer they cannot work on it rather than make promises. I have seen experts who will tell you vehicles they cannot touch and I respect that. I do not think any less of them for doing that.

Selling of car paints and other refinishing products would be the core.

Lagos state because

1. has an insane volume of cars on the road

2. majority of tokunbo vehicles come in through the Lagos Apapa port, they need repairs and painting is part of it.

3 there are more scratching and bashing in the traffic prone lagos roads which is converts to sales for you.

4. Lagos workers are bucksed up some need to change car colour, others wanna paint their brake shoes and co, race strips, decals you would be onhand to provide it

I don't see anybody crucifying your establishment, you have done the needful by asking the customer to make use of his labour warranty.

Engineering work are like that reason most gurus on nairaLand avoid some old brand of vehicles cause no matter how good you are, they just don't follow repair procedure
