Collynzo9: The idea that powering a few street lights and government offices with 2MW generators is more important that supplying electricity to homes and industries? Please let that idea be restricted to Lagos or even the South west. We don't need it here. You are not getting it. The idea is to have many of such small dedicated power plants across the nation from private investments to power important areas/sectors of the economy. It is easier to have 10,000 private investors producing 10 -50MW to power special areas than wait till we are able to build 20,000MW from few places. A 10 - 50MW plant can be built within 1 - 2 years compare to building 200 - 1000MW plants which might take many more years. Also it is easier for private investors to raise money to build 10 -50MW plants compare to sourcing fund to build 200 - 1000MW plants. That is the idea Fashola is selling. It is not cheap and easy to provide electricity but breaking down a big problem efficiently into many small problems to be handled by many hands is a good idea. |

Marvin67: I agree with you on this one. This is the time for young people you have Nigeria at heart to join PDP and convert the party into a formidable opposition. Without an opposition, a government goes to sleep. I believe PDP is loosing all her fair-weather friends. The real men still remain in PDP. I listened to David Mark yesterday when he said even if he's the last man, he'd remain in PDP. This is the time for us to team up with David Mark and Muazu.
On this woman's defection, anyone who knows abia politics well, would know that this woman became irrelevant after her son left office. T.A Orji made her and her son irrelevant. Her brand of politics called "mamacracy" no longer works. The Abia governorship race is between Alex Otti (APGA) and Ikpeazu (PDP). Irrespective of who wins, this woman remains still irrelevant, and I don't see her being relevant in Abuja also, cos APC already knows the ones who would be relevant at that level. So Mama's defection, is simply to make headlines for newspapers. It doesn't carry weight. Majority of them decamping to APC now will soon find their way out when they realize that APC has nothing to offer them. |

AgentMS: PDP can not. A new formidable party will emerge out of this seemingly over crowded APC with time.
The only hope for PDP is for them to rejuvenate the party with young and visionary leaders that can appeal to the youths. If these young visionary leaders are presently unknown, they had better start speaking out from now so people can access them before the next general election. 4 years is just to short for some unknown and untested people to be a threat to a sitting government the way APC was to PDP. |

ilugunboy: Unfortunately I don't think PDP will be able to rise up again if the voting pattern of the Presidential election also reflects in the governorship election.
We may just pray for a fresh party to come along as opposition.... Well, lets see how things unfold. With all these mass defection everywhere, looks like APC might be controlling more than 21 states it won in d last presidential election. |

PointB: We know where our interest lies and how best to pursue it; you should be thinking of how to improve the Almajiri school Jonathan build for your people. While those schools are a start, embracing modern education is the best course of action for the North, else few years down the lines, those half-baked product will end up cannon fodder for the next Islamic sect you are wont to produce! And while you are at it, ensure that the near eradicated polio, does not sneak back again under the watch of our semi-illiterate president!
Leave Imolites to decide their fate! Good luck on the bold. But fact remains, Igbos need other regions to make an headway and you need an acceptable bridge builder like Owelle. Personally I dont fancy Tinubu, but I know Yorubas need a Rugged Political Strategist like him to have a stake at the center, so I support him. If you guys think you can do it alone, then I wish you Goodluck. |

naijababe: Do you have a link? I'd like to read it lol. The report is under Jonathan's desk and might be used to wrap Patience jewelries while packing out of Aso Rock. Jokes aside, it has not been made public. I only go to know about it from Tunde Bakare and Yinka Odumakin discuss on it. From what they said, the report if implemented promotes regionalism; region economic integration that is very much in line with DAWN policies, state police among other things. |

naijababe: Not much even by my account, na so so meetings we dey hear about. But I believe some of their ideas politically speaking are hard to implement if the politics at the centre is not favourable.
As you said before, time will tell.
@ Omonnak0da, exactly! They need legislation to be able to implement those policies and this where numbers in the lower house especially could really work in their favour. To be honest, Jonathan National Conference report is fantastic and would have helped DAWN even though I dont trust Jonathan and I think he lacks the political will to implement it. But I doubt Buhari will even give much thought to that report. I dont think the SW has anything fantastic to gain from the Center outside the basic federal presence which is expected for every region. My only joy with Buhari / APC government is that, given the human resources available in APC with Buhari's strong political will and anti corruption stand, we might begin to see real federal government projects with a conducive business enabling environment which SW governors can build on it to the benefit of the region. |

But Kats - why do you like the Tories so much? I remember a thread about a year ago where you supported Lady Thatcher's policies. The same policies that disenfranchised loads of folks, and tore the fabric of the country apart. Northern England and Scotland are yet to recover from those wicked policies...and she destroyed a generation of black people in the UK. Even I wonder. |

OBJ and Generals already reminded him of the Gbagbo treatment
Lately he looked behind him and he saw all those he banked on were just sychophants
Dangote, Otedola, Ohaneze, Fayose, Asari, even the loudmouth Orubebe all have changed tunes
Jonathan looked behind him and saw he was alone
I remember a song of the tortoise and the elephant
A o merin joba from Lagbaja. Go and listen to it Honestly I doubt he was forced. If at all he was compelled to concede defeat, definitely not by the likes of Orubabe who were ready to burn down Nigeria over his loss. |

Texcoco: The janjaweedes have come to terms with the rise to greatness of Dr Goodluck Jonathan even though they would want him to end in ignominy and oblivion as this euohoria has not only stolen their thunder but showed him up as the best president Nigeria ever had thus vindicating Jonathians for sticking with him to the end, heck even those who voted change are already regretting, what with the uncertainty of Buhari's rule looming ahead it is an irony Buhari now has big shoes to fill from the one who had no shoes initially. Best what? Regret what? Buhari has no choice than to perform and if APC doesn't perform, we will compel PDP to present another formidable candidate in 2019 and change from APC. Jonathan has failed as President and commander in chief but he left a legacy of accepting his failure gracefully and leaving honorably, that is a plus and a legacy to be proud of. |

omenka: I couldn't agree with you more.
I had always insisted Jonathan would be totally forgotten both locally and internationally after leaving office, but this last master stroke of his changed all that. I'm even tempted to think that indeed, personally, he might not be a bad person but he's simply weak in character. He surrounded himself with all the wrong people and allowed impunity reign supreme. He was held to ransom by tribal warlords and cecessionist elements and did nothing break the back of the monster.
People like Alams, Asari, Clerk and Fani Kayode shouldn't have been given the kind of recognition they were given. His wife never helped matters either.
At the end of the day, with this single act of his, I see him being given some assignments perhaps by AU or ECOWAS especially as regards election and transition monitoring. I very much agree with the bold. I noticed his weakness from the time of Yar'Adua cabals saga. And to worsen his situation he surrounded himself with sycophants and corrupt people as you rightly mentioned. And finally, we all seem to be oblivious of one major actor in this whole episode; Abdulsalami Abubakar. Great man. True that. |
Politics › Finally A Legacy For Jonathan by OAM4J(op): 12:12pm On Apr 02, 2015 |
In my write up here some months ago on why I think Jonathan should NOT be re-elected in 2015 which unfortunately went with the data challenge that affected Nairaland. ( http://oam4j..com/2014/04/why-jonathan-should-not-be-re-elected.html). One of the reasons I gave as of the time of writing that piece, was that I couldn't come up with a clear legacy of President Jonathan. So I had thought Jonathan will leave government without a clear legacy. Howbeit he got a big one when it so mattered most. What he did will be better appreciated when one imagines what could have happened if he had not honorably conceded defeat but follow the path of Orubabe. Nigeria will not be what it is at the moment. So in accepting to leave office gracefully, Jonathan finally earned my respect and gives Nigeria and indeed Africa a Legacy. Let me take the opportunity to congratulate all Nigerians on the success of 2015 polls, especially those who believed, bought and worked for change. Some of us had wished for it in 2011; then many were not sold to it. But we are glad that the change we seek is finally here. I can only hope GMB and PYO will not let us down. I believe Nigeria message is clear; any party/administration that fails or takes Nigerians for granted will be booted out. Finally I commend Jega and his team; I only wish he can be persuaded to continue. We are not there yet, I look forward to a situation where it will be almost impossible to rig election in Nigeria as I have no doubt that some of the results from many of the states were padded up, even though I can still say the result fairly reflects the wishes of majority of Nigerians. We have more reason to be proudly Nigerian. Long live my beloved country Nigeria! |
