Rossikk:Sorry I'm not ignorant and I know exactly what I'm talking about. |
lilwill:For the majority who are connected to power supply, the little 5000mw ensured up to 18-20hrs. And to correct your statememt, its mostly very rural areas that aren't still connected to the grid and these users dont make up anywhere near 40%. Nigerians are mostly concentrated in cities and all cities are connected to the grid. Even if we were to connect every single unconnected home to the grid today, the potential power demand from these unconnected rural areas wouldnt be up to 5% of the total power demand nationwide. |
PapaBrowne:A simple common sense scenario... If Mr AAA orders 10 plates of peppersoup and big stout for his friends. After enjoying the treat, Mr BBB is required to pay the bill. Who shall we thank for the meal?.... Mr AAA or Mr BBB? Now just to clarify something you said up there, OBJ signed the contract for both the Abuja to Kaduna and Lagos to Kano lines with the Chinese. Yaradua came in, suspended the project on the basis of irregularities and then passed on later. GEJ then resurrected the project, paid the counterpart fund (while the Chinese sponsored the rest) and the project was executed. Even with the project being completed largely, Buhari still had to spend over N15 billion in the 2016 budget for this very Abuja to Kaduna project to completely seal the job before its operation. Currently, Buhari has also just released part of the counterpart funds (up to N120billion paid this year) for the Lagos to Kano and Lagos to Calabar lines. So please Papa Browne, let us quit these immature "it is GEJ's project" rants. Government is a continuum and every one has had their own roles to play and even if God willing, Buhari completes the Lagos-Kano and Lagos to Calabar lines, even in the next 15 to 20 years, successive governments would still be stuck paying back the loans. Neither GEJ nor OBJ nor Buhari has these projects cos the projects aren't being paid for from their personal pockets. Thanks. |
Train still looks like those archaic containers which goodluck bought to run on the old rails. I thought more modern trains should have been bought. ![]() |
Phonefanatic:We have a country with zero security, a country where security forces only know how to harrass, extort and kill the innocent. Pipeline infrastructure are as vulnerable as candle was close to a heat source. If we must be real, it takes only patriotism for those pipelines not to be blown, there's absolutely nothing the govt can do if a people decide to sabotage their own development. |
Phonefanatic:It's still nothing compared to the money we're talking about, still less than 3% of $1bn. |
989900:At a meagre 5,000mw, Nigerians enjoyed up to 18-20hrs power supply accros the entire country for months. I can assure you that 7,000 to 10,000 can translate to a steady 20-22hrs accross the nation. The only thing is, when power becomes fairly stable, it would drive industrialisation, and with a large drive in industrialisation, the power demand will increase monumentally and then even 10,000mw wouldn't be enough any more. But with the current state of things (non-industralised Nigeria), even 7000mw would do wonders. |
Phonefanatic:Being unable to make a reasonable argument without resorting to insulting words like zombie speaks volumes of your mental and intellectual capacity. |
obicentlis:A 1000mw gas power plant would cost roughly $1billion; the president's travels would not cost beyond $1 or at most $2million per trip. That's like 0.1% of the cost of a 1gw plant; so please try and make a better argument. |
Phonefanatic:Nigerians similarly enjoyed power for months under this admin ladt year, my people didn't have to use their gen for 2 straight months between july and septwmber last year and that is a yearly ritual for as long as I can remember because of high water levels in thise months. The high water levels normally supplement the thermal power stations during the peak of the rains. The only reason we may not enjoy the effect of high water levels this year is because politicians and their boys have taken it personally upon themselves to blow up every goddamn pipe taking gas to thermal power stations; I doubt only the hydro dams can handle the power demand this time. |
OjukwuWarBird:lol |
mrprezident007:Absolutely, electricity is not rocket science for real. Just 2 months into this administration when gas was supplied to powerstations and when we were at the peak of the rainy season, Nigeria's power generation rose to just a meagre 5000mw but the entire country felt it; the entire country kept celebrating up to 22hrs power supply and it was like a miracle. But that was just a mere 5000mw. Since then, some legal issues militating against the take off of some power plants, and some other technical issues have been resolved. There are also plans to bring on stream by the end of 2016, up to an additional 1500mw to 2000mw after some extra infrastructural and administrative constraints are settled. If 5000mw could give Nigeria almost steady power in the peak of the rains, I'm sure an addition of up to 1500-2000mw this year to the grid would ensure our generation does not fall below 5000mw even in the driest season. But unfortunately, it appears someone has noted this great possibility and they have taken it upon themselves personally to ensure it never occurs. Hence the most important gas pipelines taking gas to most of the thermal stations have been targeted and blown up several times in the last few months just to ensure that this incremental power supply never happens. |
DIVINE78:You never can tell... what if Mbu is guven an appointment soon? ![]() |
PhilemonObende:Bleedy pained ipad... ![]() |
onepluone:Ebem si ogbasara gi? I am proudly one of the efulefus (as I am fondly called by intolerant bigots) who supported buhari in 2015 and who still supports him till date. |
PhilemonObende:Obende, tell your silly story to the birds, your hatred for Buhari is purely because he defeated your hero; it has nothing to do with any killings because your bile against him kicked off even before he moved into aso rock. And if it pains you so much that there were over 140,000 Igbos who actually voted for Buhari in the last election and who still support him today, then go seek the help of a psychiatrist; no be we do you. |
ayoolanr:Someone has already clarified that (see quote below). The proposed railway is way longer than 800km which Cramjones used in his estimate. The project goes through Benin-sapele-Warri-Ughelli-Yenagoa-Otuoke-Yenagoa to PH-Aba-Uyo-Calabar; that's a much longer route than the 800km route which was put up there. Also remember the generic amount quoted by the contractor per km does not include the cost of compensation to land owners which the govt has to pay. I doubt that generic figure per km also takes account of the most difficult swampy terrain of the Niger-Delta route. Even the proposed rail route from Lagos to Kano which is much longer actually cost much less than this Lagos-Calabar cos of the difference in terrain. Too many children and adults with child brains on Nairaland these days. Even if Aisha wants to go to the US, she will go on a diplomatic passport and as such, even if she's the biggest fraudster in the world, she cannot be touched. |
gocac:Poor mentality... this is like a cocoa farmer saying he will not sell his cocoa to a customer because the customer is building a chocolate factory in a far away land. I know you and your ilk are already warming up to go blow pipelines because that is the limit of your intelligence, but use your head for once, dangote gets to pay the prevailing global oil price for every single drop of crude his refinery refines, he is not getting the crude for free. |
allansie:Graduates all over the world need to still be trained to be able to operate such plants. Nigerian graduates are not as half baked as we always paint ourselves to be, we are comparable to graduates from all over the world and we even do better .n most instances of comparisonm |
elopee3000:Just before anyone starts planning how they will bomb pipelines and prevent raw materials ftom getting to this refinery, such an agrieved person should know that this is a private refinery and it will pay the prevailing global oil price for every single drop of crude oil it buys to refine. If the belligerent states of the ND refuses to sell their oil (or choses to bomb pipelines), crude could be bought from peaceful states (e.g. Qua Iboe) or even internationally, and ferried in barges. This may be a very inconvenient and expensive option which would end up scuttling the potentially large reduction in fuel prices, but I sincerely hope dangote and co have thought about this in their business risk assessments. |
irondome:The mess in the banking sector predated Soludo's era. Soludo stepped in an did a lot of restructuring and clean up, Sanusi also stepped in and did his part of the cleanup but up till date, the mess is even still monumental. |
amakenny:In the 12 years of Udenwa and Ohakim, can you honestly beat your chest and say those 2 men built up to half of the number of rural roads that Rochas has built in 5 years?.. Bros abeg tell us something else; Rochas might be a hated politician because of party affiliation, but it is meaningless to claim that he has only built roads in Owerri. |
Painting his predicament into a religious issue in order to fan the embers of a further religious divide... A very wonderful strategy by Prof FFK, it's no longer tribal sentiments, we now have to also deal with religious conspiracies too. This same religious divide strategy was the exactly strategy which FFK introduced into the 2015 election when he was made the GEJ campaign chairman. A pathetically diabolic divide strategy which couldn't work for him in the election is the same strategy the man wants to use with EFCC... and of course it makes one to wonder whether people like Dasuki and co are also southern Christians being persecuted by northern antichrists according to FFK's logic. |
Leopard2A7:Oga Leopard2A7, if I may ask, why exactly are you tagging me and why exactly do you need my attention?... Do I by any means look like or sound like or think like the pathetic depraved minds who run about the streets and internet forums, glorifying, defending and fraternising with every single fraudster who is exposed or is being prosecuted because of my political/ethnic/religious/tribal links? Do I look or sound like one of the pathetic simpletons who jump about crying witch-hunt or marginalisation whenever a fraudster is exposed? I'm sorry boy, if that is what you expect of me, you are certainly poking the wrong person; that is what makes me different from you. Thanks! |
mrZENographer: Sprintson:Everybody na illuminati, everybody na fake prophet, everybody na antichrist, but you lads are saints right?.... Be wary of judging everyone else but yourselves. |
mrZENographer:So in essence, you are saying some sins are stronger than others?... This is a statement I definitely agree with, however I also agree with the pope that just the same way we as men have no biblical rights to judge, condemn and stone adulterers to death, we also have no rights biblically to mete out those treatments to gays; we can only just tell them to repent just like every other sinner. |
