Folks like u don't get that we elected as the executive president not Chief Justice of Naija. He should stop making statement that might undermine legality of his actions.. The job of the GMB is to build a team that will mount an air-tight case against alleged folks, but they must have their day in court. obayaya: Obasanjo administration was "punitive".. yet it didn't stop corruption... infact corruption was on the increase while we all basked in the euphoria of the arrest and prosecutions made on the surface.
But did that discourage people from engaging in corrupt practices? No. Why? Because the arrest were just some deceptive media show.. It's just like killing a goat that ate yam in front of the farm owners to deceive them that you're effective, while a thousand other goats are devouring yams like it's nobody's business in the backyard.
The best way is to build strong systems. A system that makes corruption difficult or impossible. A system that detects corruption automatically and is strong enough to punish the offenders.
That's the system in place in all the developed countries. And who told you OBJ's administration was punitive?.... arresting a person and releasing the person on bail and squashing the case after money has changed hands, is that what you call punitive? Name the people who were convicted and sentenced to proper jail terms under OBJ? |

obayaya: Considering that all goats whether old or young, foreign or local will always eat yam, will you kill off all the goats on the planet?
China has developed strong institutions.. those institutions are their way of keeping the goats away from the yam. That's what we need to focus on first..
When we must have successfully built these strong institutions, any goats that trespasses can be murdered or tied as the case may be.. Why are you guys always so defensive when it comes to punishing people for impoverishing the nation?... As long as there are no punitive measures, no matter how powerful your systems are, no matter how strong or high the gates are that protect the treasury, as long as there are no punitive measures for attempting to break in, the thieves will keep trying their luck until they get access to the treasure. This is common sense and I have absolutely no idea why any normal person would even think of arguing about this. |

If you flog a goat from now till next year and you still keep him together with the yam, he'll still eat the yam. So the wisest thing to do is to keep the goat away from the yam Lol.. Permit me to re-word my original statement regarding flogging the goat, "Tie the freaking goat"That's what they do in civilised countries which makes them to have a lower prevalence of graft. Some countries even go ahead to slaughter the goat instantly for peppersoup e.g. China. cuteboy2: Femi Falana (SAN) dwelt not only on the effective Abacha loot recovery, he also elaborated extensively on the laws he put in place to strenghthen the hands of DPP and anti-corruption agencies to successfully prosecute corrupt officials.
Though Falana did not touch on this, via the e-purse, Jonathan effectively ended the perennial fertilizer scam in which Nigeria lost billions every year, and successive govts were incapable of doing anything about it because powerful emirs and prominent Nigerians were all involved. Adesina Akinwumni (former Agric Minister under GEJ) can provide more details.
GEJ's fault is that he needed to also publicly prosecute and make an example of corrupt officials. In fighting corruption in Nigeria, symbolism is very important. In our current national psyche and thinking, these symbolism are even more important than the substance itself. Nigerians relate more to fear factor in obeying the law. There are 2 approaches to fighting corruption: 1. GEJ's goat and yam theory where systems are put in place to prevent thieves from getting close to the funds. 2. Flogging the goat for eating the yam. For corruption to be effectively fought in a country like Nigeria where indiscipline and impunity reigns supreme, both number 1 and 2 have to be applied. GEJ failed because he attempted only number 1. |

Doesn't it mean that the FG is increasing its debt to GDP ratio without commensurate capital inflow to our national economy? It's like your brother owes a bank and the bank comes to collect their payment, your brother is unable to pay and u step in and tell the bank let him off the hook and transfer the loan to ur name, if u default on that loan the bank will come after u not ur brother! The most important point to note is, the states are still in debt and would still have to pay back. Using the term 'DEBT FORGIVENESS' is misleading. |

And your postulations above still begs the questions - What verifiable facts do you have to support the premise of your accusations? And how do you come to the conclusion that Igbos will be held to ransom by being charged a toll fee? You're assuming that only Igbos have been using the existing bridge, and will be the only ones to use the 2nd one, when built. You're also saying that payment of toll gate fee anywhere amounts to holding people to ransom. None of your theories make any sense. People other than Igbos have been using the existing bridge, and will continue to use any new bridge. Toll fee is added to transportation cost, and these costs are in turn added to the cost of goods, and is paid by the final consumer. The Niger bridge is a major connecting transit route for goods and services all around Nigeria and beyond, needless to point out that people other tan Igbos use that bridge also to get to different destinations within and outside Igbo states. There're many Igbo people who have never been on that bridge, just as there are many hausas, yorubas etc who use the bridge every week. If you get out of your comfort zone and familiarize yourself with the rest of your country, you'll very easily learn this fact. Please what exactly are you talking about in this your long epistles? 99% of people who use the niger bridge are Igbos and with the 2nd Niger bridge being tolled for 25 years, 99% of the people paying these tolls are going to be Igbos. So once again I ask, what kind of diversion are you trying to create with this your long epistle? |

2. Security. OBJ allowed Sharia to flourish in northern states, which led to the Boko Haram that the northern establishment used to undermine GEJ.
3. Economy. Nigeria was recognised as the largsst economy in Africa. OBJ did not record that in the 70swhen he was the military dictator. He did not record it as a civilian president, even though I know he must have done his best, and probably would have attained that feat if he had carried on.

OfoIgbo: First of all, Yorubas did not at all give GEJ 90% of their votes in 2011. The voting pattern in Yoruba dominated states was aroun 55-60% for Jonathan, and it was this high especially in Lagos mainly because of Igbo votes. In actual fact Yorubas in Lagos probably gave GEJ about 20% of their votes, but Igbo votes took it over the 50% threshold because about 99% of Igbos in Lagos voted for GEJ in 2011. Of course, I imagine that about 10-15% of Yorubas voted for him in Lagos in 2015.
Btw GEJ was far better than OBJ as a president and a democrat. But Yorubas did not mind voting for OBJ in 2003 without nominating a candidate for Alliance of Democracy. So basically right from the onset Yorubas were always against GEJ, it's just that the Igbo votes masked this in 2011.
The bottomline remains that Yorubas preferred a northern brute and illegal dictator who deserves to be rotting away in some unmarked grave, to a fellow southerner, whose only offence was his naivety and indecisiveness, coupled with the fact that the northern establishment promised to make his regime ungovernable, and yet the Yorubas joined in making the government of this poor man ungovernable, showing no iota of understanding for his plight....Bokoharam and all
All these extra labels you all are attaching to him is simply a case of giving a dog a bad name before hanging it.
Anyway, I cannot forget 28th march and I am pretty sure Ssoutherners won't be forgetting it in a jiffy. History is always important as it helps one to make more informed decisions in the future. Quit deluding yourself.... The 2011 election results are still online for you to go and review. GEJ was better than OBJ?.. and i ask, in terms of what exactly?.... Is it security, or the economy or corruption?.... Anyway, sampling opinions both locally and internationally, it's only Igbos that think GEJ was an excellent leader. So please, let's just forget about this argument, the last thing I would want to do right now is to ruin my peaceful saturday arguing with an Igbo man about GEJ's performance. But the reality is that true federalism can only come by way of a sovereign national conference or if it is passed at the National Assembly. The North has perished any thought about a sovereign conference. When it comes to th National Assembly, the North have more delegates. A federal structure bill will need 2/3ds vote to pass. So how will be done? You think a northerner will vote for it when he finds out it will mean that people from the Niger-Delta will get as much 50% of their oil and Gas money while decreasing the revenue coming to the north? Face reality, regionalism isn't ever coming back. The only people opposed to regionalism is the core north, the north central states arent even bothered and would be happy to break away from the domination of the hausa-fulani mafia. OfoIgbo: The foolishness of the south manifested itself on 28th March 2015, when Yorubas opted for a dictator, just because their son will be vice president.
The SS and SE clearly voted for restructuring on that day. Yes, we knew GEJ was acting like a rookie while he was the president and his wife compounded his issues, but at least out of the two main contenders, he was more amenable to issues regarding the restructuring of Nigeria.
Perhaps the vice president that the SW wanted so badly should work on restructuring Nigeria from within.
28th March was a landmark date. Yorubas made their choice and they were fully informed. Instead they chose to use their media to run down only SS president that Nigeria has ever produced, thus throwing away the baby and the bathwater.
Presently the SE and SS are consolidating their partnership and brotherliness and we are happy with that. Only committed people are needed and both zones have shown their sincerity towards a restructured Nigeria or TO YOUR TENTS OH ISRAEL. Please forget the issue of March 28th, GEJ was a failure of a leader, the SW had absolutely nothing to gain from GEJ so they were under no obligation to vote for him. And while you may want to erroneously accuse the SW of voting PMB because of his vice, may I remind you of 2 things: 1. A yoruba man was also Buharis vice in 2011 but 90% of SW still voted for Jonathan. 2. Almost half (45%) of the SW voted for GEJ in the last election so it would be unfair and myopic to just generalise that the entire SW voted a dictator. As a matter of fact, the reason more south-westerners are even supporting buhari today is because of the reaction of the Igbos after the election, i.e. the way the SE has continually thrown insults and preached hate messages against them. Also, have you ever wondered why the middle-belt which voted massively for GEJ in 2011 decided to switch to Buhari in 2015?... The answer is simple, GEJ wasn't a good leader (even though only the Igbos were blind to this). For the middle belt and SW, the last election had absolutely nothing to do with tribe, if PDP had fielded any other person from the Niger delta, there is absolutely no way the old dictator would have smelt victory. And finally, regarding the restructuring, I could stake my life that there was absolutely no way GEJ was going to make any move in that direction. So for what reason exactly should the SW have voted GEJ? |
