Stiv: We are hypocritical in nature. If you offer a view that is different from the norm, people will rush to insult you without even thinking. In naija, people lynch suspected criminals because the police is ineffective in handling crime. Is Aluu the first community to lynch? We have turned lynching to a culture and sometimes the wrong people are caught. It's sad.

@bittyend and @callotti offered another angle to the story. because it doesn't conform to the thinking of the general mind doesn't mean we should shout them down with insults.

Thanks.
I bet you never came close to death before or witnessed such in person before.
In Jos, i was once a victim - wrongly accused of being a member of the opposing group during the 2010 crisis. I was super lucky to be saved by my "babar" who was among the mob and could speak hausa (which i couldn't use to express ma self) after taking horrible and most terrible blow to ma face.
So yes! I will be quick to talk down on anybody who has a diff view on this issue in such a manner. For whatever reason, they should ve been tried and let the law take its course.
Crime › Parents Of Slain 20-year-old To Demand Justice by Ochek(op): 12:50am On Oct 15, 2012
The parents of Lucy Ukpong who was reportedly shot dead by policemen in Abuja on Friday will on Monday (today) visit the Federal Capital Territory Police Command to demand justice for the killing of their daughter.

The Ukpongs, who reside in Akwa-Ibom State, were scheduled to arrive in Abuja on Sunday to meetwith their relations in the city beforevisiting the police.

Our correspondent learnt that the couple would demand to know what the police authorities were doing to bring their daughter’s killers to book.

Lucy, a salesgirl at a photography shop in Apo area, was reportedly hitin the chest by bullets allegedly fired by policemen from the FCT Special Anti-robbery Squad. Three others sustained gunshot wounds during the incident.

The 20-year was said to be inside the shop when she was killed by policemen who had come to enforce the demolition of illegal structures by officials of the FCT Development Control Department.

The deceased had only spent a month on her job before she was killed, according to her employer, Emeka Ani.

The residents of the area had resisted moves to demolish their structures, leading to a confrontation and sporadic gunshotsby the policemen.

Ani told our correspondent on Sunday that Lucy’s parents were expected in Abuja to find out what happened and also to make arrangements for the release of her body for burial.

“We are expecting Lucy’s parents in Abuja today(Sunday); they are already on their way and we believe they will get here before nightfall. My boy who was injured in the handby gunshot is recovering,” Ani said.

The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Doris England, said the Criminal Investigation Department had commenced investigation into the incident, adding that the policemen on duty at the demolitionsite would be interrogated to know what transpired.

She said, “By Monday or Tuesday, theCID would have interrogated the policemen and the development control officials to know what happened on that day. I cannot give any update until the conclusion of investigation.”

bittyend: Let me break it down:

- Lynching criminals is a culture in Nigeria.
- Five 'cultists' with a gun went to decoup(whatever the phuck that means) their don in a community where armed robbery is rampant.
- Shots were fired and people called for help.
- Vigilantes came to their rescue and saw the 'cultists' with a gun and 'stolen' items.
- The gunman escaped and left the others at the mercy of the first point above.

Do the maths and save your breath, it was another day in the jungle(Nigeria). undecided
And you were sure the voice heard in the video screaming "kill am, kill am" abi? May God not let you face such an inhuman act. And by the way, even if that was not the first of its kind, does that mean we should just let evil prevail all the time? There is sure a time for everything. This is the time to speak against such evil acts.
And if you cant, find ur way to syria.

Crime › After Uniport Students Rampage, Aluu Community Counts Its Losses by Ochek(op): 1:30am On Oct 12, 2012
The people of Omuokiri Aluu Community have begun to count their losses barely 24 hours after students from the University of PortHarcourt embarked on reprisals to avenge the killings of their colleagues.
The angry students had on Tuesday stormed the community, burnt somehouses, cars and other property overthe torture and murder of the students on Friday.
Four undergraduates of UNIPORT were lynched by a mob comprising members of the community for allegedly stealing laptop computer and a BlackBerry phone.
The students were Biringa Chiadika of the Theatre Arts Department; Ugonna Obuzor of Geology Department, Mike Toku Llyod of CivilEngineering Department and TekenaErikena.
When our correspondent visited thecommunity on Wednesday, few of the indigenes were seen bemoaning their losses.
One of the leaders of the community,Sunday Ahanonu, said he had lost all he laboured for to thestudents’ reprisals.
Ahanonu, whose house was torchedby the students, expressed shock that security agents could not stop the rampaging students when they stormed the community.
Sixty-five-year-old Ahanonu and father of 15 children, worked at UNIPORT for 35 years before he retired.
He appealed to the state government and the management of the university to compensate him for the destruction of his property, adding that he and members of his family were not involved in the killings of the students.
Ahanonu said, “I am a retired civil servant. I worked with UNIPORT for35. But all I have achieved for many years have been destroyed by students from the university. I don’tknow where my family and I will layour heads when my only house has been burnt.
“I lost the sum of N850,000 cash, which I kept in my house. I could nottake the money to the bank because I was not feeling okay and went to the hospital. It was at the hospital that I learnt that my house was burnt by the students.”
Also, a woman, who identified herself as Pauline Nwakwo, told ourcorrespondent that she left the village when she learnt that security agents had embarked on mass arrest, but came back to notice that her bar had been burgled.
According to her, the rampaging students forcibly entered her bar andcarried away her deep freezer and drinks.
She said, “As a woman, I had to run away when we noticed that the police were embarking on mass arrest. The students broke the door to my bar and took away a deep freezer I bought for N66,000. I wantgovernment to pay me back all I have lost.
“The students were killed far from here at the Burrow pit. We don’t know anything about the killings ofthe students.”
Indigenes of the community were also seen leaving their homes in droves to other places in order to avoid being attacked by the students.
One of them, who gave her name asComfort, said she was relocating her children to Elele in Rivers State and would only return to Omuokiri Aluu whenever normalcy returns.

Islam › Re: Muslims Fight To Defend Their Prophet And Christians Dont? by Ochek: 4:59pm On Oct 03, 2012
The OP: Given this violent legacy in religion lets compare the
brutality quotient of the Quran and the Bible.

Defense Vs. Total Annihilation

Much to my surprise, the Islamic scriptures in the Quran were actually far less bloody
and less violent than those in the Bible.

Violence in the Quran, is
largely a defense against attack.
"By the standards of the time, which is the
7th century A.D., the laws of war that are laid
down by the Quran are actually reasonably
humane.
Then we turn to the
Bible, and we actually find something that is
for many people a real surprise. There is a
specific kind of warfare laid down in the
Bible which we can only call genocide.

It is called herem, and it means total
annihilation. Consider the Book of 1 Samuel,
when God instructs King Saul to attack the
Amalekites: "And utterly destroy all that they
have, and do not spare them," God says
through the prophet Samuel. "But kill both
man and woman, infant and nursing child,
ox and sheep, camel and donkey."
When Saul failed to do that, God took away
his kingdom.

"In other words, Saul has
committed a dreadful sin by failing to
complete genocide. And that passage
echoes through Christian history. It is often
used, for example, in American stories of the
confrontation with Indians — not just is it
legitimate to kill Indians, but you are
violating God's law if you do not."

The history of Christianity
is strewn with herem. During the Crusades
in the Middle Ages, the Catholic popes
declared the Muslims Amalekites. In the
great religious wars in the 16th, 17th and
19th centuries, Protestants and Catholics
each believed the other side were the
Amalekites and should be utterly destroyed.

'Holy Amnesia'
But even though the Bible is
violent, Christianity and Judaism today are
not for the most part.
"What happens in all religions as they grow
and mature and expand, they go through a
process of forgetting of the original
violence, and I call this a process of holy
amnesia.
And then, you are missing the point again and again.
The word "christian" or christianity as we are refering to was first used in the new testament. That was after Jesus had come and gone. Your instants all pre-date Jesus's existance.
