Laalamed: For ur info nursing practioners are created to solve problems of doctors shortage. They are not replacing doctors. when there are specialist doctors NP work to assist doctors. infact np job is designed to be autonomous.
There you go again. Autonomous!

ziga: If una no fit read, I quote am again for those people wey never travel abroad wey dey claim say CMD's for yankee no be Doctor.

Unlike our Nollywood, they try to portray some form of reality. The story might not be true, but they try to make all else as believable as possible.

Naija is just so ignorant!!!
Who ignorant pass you?
According to ur post : Some nurse practitioners work in clinics without doctor supervision.
Others work together with doctors as
a joint health care team.
What else are you trying to prove? Try reason well abeg.

Laalamed: doctors do not own the hospitals yes i agree. but know that patients come to see doctors. doctors plan patients management ,admit patients and discharge as well. if other health professionals want to head hospitals let them start consulting. if u want administrators let administrators take over all other sectors viz engineering, pharmaceutical industries, education, power, bank etc.
Google up Nurse practitional and stop shouting jor!

hairyman: You did no say head, you said manage. And again I tell you even the department of obs/gyn has been managed by a non-physician. And what we are arguing here I about hospital management. For the man who referred to gray's anamtomy as a source of information, in as much as that is infinitely unpardonable referring to a movie in this quarter, you may remember that the hospital manager was not even a physician (chief surgeon was not the highest authority in that hospital)
I truely wonder why one should be using a movie as a basis of his points. It's like saying that, at every hour, american security is on the chase of a terrorist about to let one bomb go off on the american soil as in season 24.
And thanks for pointing out to those who know nothing about the medical hierarchy. In that movie, a surgeon was and that contradicts their basis.
Health › Re: Should Non-doctors Head health Institutions? by Ochek: 9:15pm On May 01, 2013
timowale: On point, doctors head the medical team while nurses on the other hand head the nursing team. Each of the various subunits forming the health institution has a unit head
furthermore, your submission that patients belong to doctors is untrue
Every one that visit hospital is aware nurses spend the greater number of hours with the patients than all other health professionals.
Finally, the position of hospital heads ought not be the exclusive preserve of only doctors cos the requisite skills for administering institution as such is an all encompassing one starting administrative public relation ,technically .....nurses and other health practtionaltoo have the aforestated requirements
Bless you!

ugochi86: @ochek. Same courses different cut off marks.don't know what luck u re talking about.leave the doctors alone and focus on making d best out of what u studied.
Yeah! So true but you would also agree with me that the high demand for the course gave it that cut off mark.
Health › Re: Should Non-doctors Head health Institutions? by Ochek: 5:20pm On May 01, 2013
laseni: A medical doctor by training, undergoes comprehensive training in ALL the fields of medicine and is thus well grounded to take adequate care of patients. For anybody to be a good hospital administrator, you must be well grounded in every area of medical care, because the objective in hospital administration is not about making money;but using the often limited resources to achieve optimal care for your client. This you would able to do if you have a complete knowledge of what your patients would require.
Really? I don't remember having any management studies or proper sociology courses in the med sch.

About the money thing, you know socrates was a right man but yo ve go ask all the dead in them graves why the CMD asked for that initial deposite before treatment which never came in good time till them gave up the ghost.
Again, i ask, what re the obligations of the CMD?
Health › Re: Should Non-doctors Head health Institutions? by Ochek: 5:15pm On May 01, 2013
ugochi86: I see this as a good avenue for all non-doctors in hospitals to vent.its understandably frustrating for them beause most of them had d aspiration of becoming doctors but jamb and probably some other factors stood in their way.they should leave them(doctors) alone.they shsould have burnt the midnight candle when they still had d chance but it's never too late to purchase jamb form as someone earlier suggested.
Sorry for you! What re the basic requirements into Med and surg, nursing, pharm, med lab? Is any diff. Hmmmmm.. The last i checked, no diff. Yes! Some got lucky to study med, others nursing and so on. Your statement is so childish and lack any creative and constructive arguement.
Health › Re: Should Non-doctors Head health Institutions? by Ochek:
Laalamed: that is not true. doctors are decision makers in hospitals. nurses follow doctors instructions. developed countries are more comfortable to hire foreign nurses than doctors. besides demand for nursing services is increasing because of increase in aging populations.
So short sighted
Health › Re: Should Non-doctors Head health Institutions? by Ochek: 4:03pm On May 01, 2013
kenlash1: Pls we shld recognise d role of a cmd before commenting? D role of a cmd is not to attend to patient but to give a wholistic management of d hospital, its NT an exclusive ryt of one profession since d health sector is a multi facetted sector ,
Correct! What re the obligations of the CMD? This should guide our comments.

centje: so you're trying to say that someone with bachelor of science in nursing knows what it takes to manage a diabetic patient or to do appendicectomy?

Doctors are insisting that this administrative office in health institutions is patient oriented. And only doctors can give a holistic approach to bring about that patient oriented care.
So the others are achieving dog orientened care abi? Seriously SMH

Managing a patient with diabetics - A Bachelor in Nursing Science can handle? Yes! Appendectomy? No! Why? Cos it's nursing and not surgery. Holistic care? Yes. Hey! I guess you re forgetting that the mega aim is administration - patient and the entire human resources of the hospital staff.
So, tell me, if the doctors agree that it is a team work play, then why re them so scared of working in a team headed by another professional on the team.

Things have changed man! If you still wanna LIE IN THE DEGENERATIVE state of the past, you re free to resign. Other health practitionals can as well make good decisions in the management of the health case system. Well you said most nurses, which means you re aware of recent developments in the nursing world. Pharm? Common! Don't tell me you re so short sighted about them as well.
Tell me, how many times does the office of the CMD in teaching hospitals come down to the wards to clark patients or follow up on a case?
Health › Re: Should Non-doctors Head health Institutions? by Ochek: 12:58pm On May 01, 2013
centje: You know hospital is all about patient's care. Every other thing is secondary. Among the health professionals only doctors pass through all the health departments in the course of training
Super wrong! Have you heard about Bachelor in Nursing science (BNSc)?
I bet you don't have a blue on what the curriculum of the medical sciences and other medically related courses look like.
However, you should understand that been a CMD is solely an administrative assignment which makes other health team members qualified. Remember, it is called a health team.

pro01: You are a BASTARD, and so is every other slimy maggot that calls himself a soldier in this useless country. Is it your responsibility to punish erring motorists? Is that why you joined the Army? Do you not have terms of reference and rules of engagement? The fact that you are issued rifles (paid for by Nigerian tax payers) does not in itself confer on you the arbitrary power to be the judge, jury and executioner in any purely civil matter that catches your fancy.

To be honest, I wish some of you soldiers would leave your rifles (and not resort to your cowardly habit of calling for back up from your fellow bastards in uniform), and come and fight man-to-man. I am certain that I would give you the beating of your miserable life if we were to engage in a bare-knuckled man-to-man fight. Most of you animals are ill-trained and cowardly bullies. Bloody fools.
You reason like a kid. Must you insult someone else? By the way, go ask your government why this guys are on our streets rather than the barracks. This is how them where trained. Brutal training not civilian training. You want civil treatment? Ask ur presidency to employ and equip the NPF. Most importantly, ACT CIVIL

andrewza: Any body trying to defend the acstions of these disgraces in uniform is a fool.

Solders are not the court of law, they not judge dredd and have no right to find some one guilty and then punish them. If the man broke the law arrest/detian him and let the justise sytem run it's course.

This act and the many others mentioned point out a number of problems in the nigerian defense force.

:Poor or no disspline
:Poor or no control by officers or wores they support from officers for this
:poor training
:no self control

If these are ment to be your protectors o pray you never have a need of protecstion.

In carrying out my duty in SA if I speak with dissrespect to a civlian I would be in troubil and may be the one doing frog jumps if I made a civlian do frog jumps they would kick me out in to prisson. If a officer did it they would drum him out. A proces where the cut your uniform of you have the entire base turn there back on you and march you out(to drum beats) probaly in to a prisson over haule for doing this.

I doubt there would be any invistegastion done in to this. In most proper miltaries even useing justerfiabil non leathel force will result in a invistegastion to see if any thing ileage was done.
Who are you again?

Must you insult to put up ur point? However, how many nigerians dey rep our police wey suppose to handle such cases? If i be soldier man catch you mess up for road, trust me, you go chop ur nyash for that road.

I strongly agree with una wey say it's wrong but come to think of it, we get many bad guys around and if this kaki boys no strong face and treatment, boys will continue to the do anyhow anyhow. For instance, no matter how many road signs them put for we road, e.g, one way, ppl go still one pass am. Stop for traffic nko? No way! Some still won have them way against the traffic. You jam hold up, what stops you from falling into to line? You won "shunt". Sometimes i really wish i was a uniform man to show them some lessons.

Can't we just celebrate the growth of both cities?
Better person, better talk. Appreciete the both cities!

All you you've posted are just a few roads. What about other infrastructures for day to day existence

Where are the water works? There are 15 in lagos.

Where are the schools?

Where are the hospitals and clinics?

Where are the parks and rec centers?

Where are the skill acquisition centers. There are 17 in lagos.

Where are the low cost housing. Fashola built many and there is one currently on the front page.

Where are the orphanages and homes for abused women.

Where are your state institutional infrastructures like the courts, agric institutes.

Show us your water jetties and terminals.

Show us anywhere in Nigeria with visionary projects like lagbus, brt, ten lane expressly with brt and metro rail access.

show us your cultural institutions like freedom square

Maybe I should stop here and allow you to catch up before continuing..

At this height, the Obj approach must be fully unleashed, with or without the consent of the president! Blood calls for blood! Death begets death!
