I have had some experiences but the one that pained me the most was when I came back late to my school apartment ,I had bought oil beans in a black nylon as dinner to pass the night.
when I got close to my compound I decided to walk past into the street to buy bread ,, There was no light so everywhere was pitch dark ,,I passed a compound I don't normally pass before to find a shop which hasn't closed for the day .
Little did I know that a native dog just gave birth and is with her puppies outside ,I walked passed them in the dark ,next thing I heard it's deep growl ,I turned and saw its shining eyes ,,it charged at me and because I didn't expect it was there at first ,I was taken by surprise .
I turned and ran into the tarred street , unfortunately where I ran past had a thick rope tied on two poles used for hanging clothes ,I am a tall guy ,,so as I fled ,I ran straight into the rope ,it caught my neck ,next thing I knew I ,,I fell and rolled into a shallow gutter ,got up , bundled myself into the tarred road .
No one was around that night ,,I was so pissed ,the dog saw what it had led me into retreated when it how I fell and rolled in the dust .
I was scrapped on my hands ,my Jean trouser ripped ,,I just searched for my oil beans in the dark , found it on the coal tar ,,went home in frustration , thank God it didn't burst ,,I poured the beans inside plate ,then park garri put Tek chop am with my lips wen don swell up ..
Since then I begin curse the dog anytime I de waka pass

It was during Waec in 2010,,I recklessly refused to collect timetable ,one day we wrote a particular paper .
After the paper I asked a classmate the date for the next paper ,he said next 3 days ,so I went home .
Next day I slept throughout the day .As Lucifer would have it my visafone was switched off . Evening came I was out strolling innat my hood,,was happily gisting with a friend when I saw one of my classmates breezing past fully clad in school uniform ,,,,she saw me and was like " What happened? Why did u miss the paper today?"
I playfully asked "which paper? Did u guys had exams today ?" She said " yes we wrote English ".
I smiled to the shock of everyone around and was like no yawa nothing de sup (marlians character)..

It was later,,I started replaying the whole scenario in my head,,a kind of cold I have never experienced gripped me ,but I still went ahead to write the next papers ,,come see where full school de ask wetin happen ,wetin happen ,y u miss English ,y ur phone off..
I still wrote the rest papers against the advice of my peers,,funny enough I collected that result four years later and it was a write off...
Thank God iam now in Final year in my state University and would have graduated if not for egbon Covid ,,, funny enough till date I still don't collect exam timetable before exams but still find myself asking coursemates "when be next paper"

The Solution to this problem is very simple.
Government should establish Almajiri schools on ground not on paper that over 100 were created but in reality, only about 5 were built e.g. Azare in Bauchi, Katsina and 3 other states.

Its going to be an investment, job opportunity, source of foreign exchange, food security, wrong indoctrination will be avoided ( bokoharam), crime rate reduced, social vices reduced, etc.

I sent these suggestions to some governors but they are not visionary leaders.

- Get a vast expanse of land.
- Conduct soil analysis to know which crop best suits the soil there.
- Build Almajiri schools with Western education sections for the poor.
- Now the children will be entitled to free education (both western and Islamic).
- The children will farm at a particular period, go for western classes, rest, farm, rest, Islamic classes etc.
- Get Govt Agriculture extension workers to keep such schools abreast with new findings, modern techniques, remedies, pest & disease control measures and at the same time supervise the schools.
- The harvest; some will be stored for feeding for the year, some for government to help export, govt will likewise tax such schools so no begger on the streets.
- Post bills containing designated bank accounts in banks or public places to those intending to support the Almajiri with any amount.
- enact law to proscribe begging and penalty for anyone giving alms on the streets.
- On graduation, an individual is already trained & conversant with farming as such can venture into it and not be a liability or searching for job.
- There should be stipends saved for the boys and should be given to them on graduation.
- The kids will not send anything home to their parents since it is the responsibility of the parents to take care of them and not the other way round.
- likewise beggers can have a home as the Almajiris for skill acquisitions and aided by the wealthy through designated banks.
