You are very right. Nigerians like limiting themselves to what others are doing. At this rate unless industrial demand for plantain is found, we are going to have excess supply of plantain which will be catastrophic to the producers.

I was referring to the length of the jail terms rather than how justice or laws were applied. I don't agree with retroactive application of laws, however, many countries do back date laws when they face unusual crimes, for example, the United States applied anti-terrorism laws retroactively in Guantanamo bay. Fortunately, the US Supreme court overturned the convictions later. The difference in a military regime is that there is no supreme court to appeal to but there are many examples of appeal and supreme courts in developed countries overturning verdicts because they violated post facto laws or sections of the constitution.

Back dating of laws is wrong anywhere any day. So in that light convictions by Buhari with those backdated laws were wrong.

On the issue of length of imprisonment. Buhari was just trying to be a sadist with those length of imprisonment. In law there is supposed to be punishment fitting the crime. If someone steal 1 million naira, it will not be fair to jail him for 100 yrs. Those length of imprisonment was not specified in our legal books prior to Buhari's regime. But people objected to the jail terms because people felt it was witch hunting.

As an example, look at case of Ambrose Alli, the former governor Of Bendel state. A contractor donated 800,000 naira to UPN, Alli's party. For that reason Alli was jailed for 100 yrs by Buhari leading to the death of Alli. If donation of private money by a private company to a political party is wrong, why did Buhari not prosecute the party executives who received the donation, why did he single out the governor. The reason is simple, Buhari wanted to jail politicians and was searching everywhere for any excuse to jail them. It had nothing to do with fighting corruption, Buhari simply wanted to stamp his authority.

I will try and explain to you, maybe you will open your mind a little to understand.

In sane society, no one uses laws and jail terms for sinister motives. All Buhari jail terms had sinister motives behind them, that is why people kicked against it.

1. Back dating laws. How will you feel if a law is promulgated today making it a jailable offence to insult someone on nairaland and such a law is made retroactive to be effective from the last 6 yrs, you will agree that many NL members will go to jail for something that was not a jailable offence as at the time the it was committed. That was what Buhari was doing, he looked at people, thought how best to jailed them and promulgated backdated laws to get them jailed. This is criminal for any leader to do.

2. Compromising the legal system. During Buhari regime, you are guilty if Buhari thinks so.
You will have a hell time trying to prove your innocence. The foundation of modern law and justice is hinged on assuming that an accused is innocent until proven otherwise, in Buhari's case an accused is guilty until proven otherwise.
If the court is unable to prove someone guilty, the accuse is kept in jail and sent to another court until they can find a way to find the accused guilty. That is not justice, that is simple witch hunting. No one likes to be witch hunted.
As a example, the judge was instructed to jail Fela even though Fela had a good case, the judge later went to beg Fela.

3. Using tthe excuse of anti-corruption for hidden agenda: Buhari had his hidden agenda, and was only using the excuse of fighting corruption to achieve his hidden agenda.
An example is the case of Chief Adekunle Ajasin: Adekunle was arrested and charged to the special tribunal set up by Buhari to jail politicians.
In the first trial, Adekunle was found innocent of all charge of corruption and abuse of office, Buhari ordered for him to be retried, Adekule was kept in jail for retrial.

In the second trial, Adekunle was found innocent of all charges, Buhari once again ordered for a retrial. Adekunle was kept in jail for a retrial.

In the 3rd trial, Adekunle was found innocent of all charges, what did Buhari do after this?
Buhari did not release Adekunle, Buhari did not call for a 4th trial rather Buhari simply jailed Adekunle indefinitely.

Another case is the case of keeping president Shagari in comfortable house arrest while keeping his vice in Kirikiri maximum prison. There is no other reason for this than tribalism.

It is good that many folks believe that the energy option that the APC is pushing for is not optimal. However some people have brought up the option of using compressed natural gas to power the modular power plants.

There are several pitfalls in this approach.
1. We have a gas framework agreed over the yrs. Compressed natural gas is not the preferred option in our gas to power plans. That is why you will see that as a country we have LNG plants and LPG plants but we have not invested in compressed natural gas plants. Compressed natural gas being used for electricity is an expensive option compared to piping of natural gas to power plants.

2. We do not have the infrastructure to produce and distribute compressed natural gas at a scale required for it to be a viable energy alternative for a country of 170 million people. Before APC started brandishing modular power plants powered by truck delivered gas, did they bother to check the feasibility of their plans? Where will the gas come from to power a modular plant in sokoto or in zamfara ? Are you going to truck gas fro warri daily to sokoto?

3. No one who wants to develop reinvents the wheel. Gas powered plant has been built in many countries that have gas reserves like nigeria. Non of those countries based their electricity generation on compressed National gas. Why does APC want to use Nigerians on a experiment. Also as a country we decided long ago to be taking gas to power plants through pipelines because it is cheaper. Why change from the cheaper option to expensive option of using trucks to deliver gas.

He should go to the motor park and ask for trucks used by the middle men in the supply of cocoa. The drivers should be able to show you the normal companies they supply.

We want PVC reader coupled with finger print authentication, so the data on the PVC should match the finger print of the person that presents the card before such a person is allowed to vote.

No need for this news. Obasanjo knows that by publicly criticising the president, he is degrading the office of the presidency. His own daughter has asked him previously he if will take the type of rubbish he is dishing to Jonathan.

Did you read the question asked? I don't think you have an idea of how this business work. We have different bulldozer that clears different sites depending on how thick the land is. From those figures, I see the polls slightly in favour of the PDP. This is because the high collection rate in the North is due to collection by proxy which will be useless if the cards do not get to the actual owners as INEC intends to use biometric card readers. Your analysis will not work in the north. On election day the cards collected by proxy in the north will be given to children and other unregistered people to go and vote. You will have massive crowd of ineligible voters at the polling station who will be initially denied accreditation, but with threats to the life of the polling agents, they will allow them to vote skewing the results in favour of the northern candidate.

Unless INEC find a way of removing votes that do not have corresponding valid accreditation.

Op, instead of telling people to call you, simply post the cost of clearing per acre. You can also post the approximate cost of transportation of the bulldozer to the farm as a factor of distance.

That way people will have easy data to do their planning with.

Op your analysis is wrong there is something called CNG (compressed natural gas) supplied by trucks from Sango-otta,Ogun state to factories in Ibadan and to Lagos IPPs in Akute

Such plants are quick to deliver once the basic dsign is done it can be adapted with detailing to different locations and constructed and commissioned in 1 year maximum, imagine towns like Ikire, Umudike, Kotangora, Aramoko, having 10MW plants each with 320Bn naira only, 100 small towns will have constant power so farmers, artisans, and produce processing be started without waiting for laying expensive and time consuming pipelines and high tension cables a step down transformers.

The professors idea is actually a brillant quick fix to provide power quickly country wide while waiting for the natural gas pipeline reaches the towns and then you can such town off truck supply and shorten the CNG transport distance by compressing gas at the nearest reach of the pipeline. This can continue until the national grid pipeline network reaches at least the towns and cities and the cost of compression and trucking will stop. This will be far cheaper than petrol and diesel generator we currently depend on.

I should know because i prepared a technical bid for the design and construction one of the Lagos IPPs.

As regards the cost, a small plant will cost a bit more than a larger plant simply because of economy of scale, simple economics, but in the context of the decentralized plan, you will make up from savings on transmission cost over long distances, heavy duty switches, circuit breakers and transformers. And minister of power just this week announced that he needs $2Billion to generate 1 MW!!!

It will be very foolish for anyone to supply a 10MW power plant with CNG using trucks. 10MW plant will supply only 3333 household with power at the Global average power rate of 3KW per household. If you have an average of 6 people per household that will mean your wonderful plant will only supply only 20,000 people. There is no town in Nigeria with only 20,000 people. You have not looked into the power required by businesses in these communities where you intend to put the plan. so for a small town with 200,000 people, you will need 10 of such power plants, with pressurised gas trucks running grids all over the city. Not workable!

And how do you intend to supply compressed Natural gas with trucks to power plants in Adamawa or Bornu or Sokoto, you want to truck gas from Warri or Portharcourt daily to those places?

Also to transport Compressed Natural gas with trucks, you need trucks fitted with high pressure vessels to act as container for the compressed gas. One thing with high pressure vessels is that they are very heavy. You will simply find yourself in a situation where a 50 ton truck only delivers 5 ton of gas due to the heavy container required for the gas. It is not workable, engineering has nmoved far beyond that phase, we now have pipelines for transporting compressed natural gas cheaply and efficiently.

Mr man. You can build a compressed natural gas plant for a small factory in Ibadan which does not have much alternative choice on power generation, but Nigeria has choices, we have gas pipelines that delivers gas from the Niger delta all the way to Abuja and to Ghana

The APC vice has consistently said that their government will improve power supply, the question is how will they do that.
The answer to the question of 'how' was answered by Osinbajo on Tuesday in Ondo during a town hall session. This is what he had to say.

1. They will decentralise power generation.
2. The decentralised power plants will have gas supplied to them by trucks instead of pipelines
3. They will copy the model of power plants already established in Lagos state.

herein lies the ignorance of the professor, also hidden in the rhetoric of the professor is the avenue for looting the treasury.
1. Power generation has been decentralised. Anyone, be it federal government, state government, local government or private companies can now set up power generation plant and sell such produced power as they deem fit. So Osinbajo should tell us something different.

2. Technically you can not supply a power plant like the one in Lagos with gas using trucks. This simply mean the professor and those formulating his policy on power generation knows nothing about power generation. The Lagos plant uses natural gas, that is another theme for methane gas. Industrially methane has 2 means of being transported, by pipelines when the point of use is less than 5,000 km and as liquefied natural gas by ships followed by re gasification when the point of use is more than 5, 000 km from the point of production. The gas supplied by trucks is liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) used for domestic cooking. No country in the world bases her power generation on LPG. Moreover Nigeria does not have the facility to produce adequate LPG to cater for domestic cooking, so using LPG for power generation is out of the question. So Osinbajo promising to supply gas to power plants with trucks is simply talking about something that is not possible.

3. Osinbajo promised to model his modular power plants after the Lagos power plant. Simply put, the Lagos power plant is among the most expensive gas fired power plant in the world. The Ikeja modular power plant has an installed capacity of 10 megawatts and was built at a cost of 3.2 billion Naira. That was equivalent to about 2 billion usd per gigawatt of electricity. Globally the benchmark cost for gas fired power plants is 1 billion usd per gigawatt of electricity, the Ikeja plant cost twice the global benchmark for such plants. By planning to go with the Lagos model, Osinbajo is telling us the will deliver power at twice the global benchmark cost, and at a cost far higher than the current government is delivering power projects. Several gas fired power plants delivered by the current government in the last 4 yrs were delivered at less than 1 . 3 billion usd per gigawatt.

So Osinbajo has no clue about power generation, he is simply spooling out impossible promises to confuse the electorates. Worse part is that he is a pastor that is supposed to stand by the truth, how will he face God at the end of the day after telling blatant lies on the campaign trail.

Cooking gas that is distributed with trucks is either liquid propane of liquid Butane and no country in the world generate public power from expensive propane and butane in the presence of massive amounts of cheap methane. And by the way we do not even have enough manufacturing capacity for propane and butane for even home cooking not to talk of using it for power generation.
