As an Engineer, offshore work is like a dream come true especially on your first visit to the rig or production platform, however as the realities of the associated dangers begin to set in, you ask yourself if this is really what you want to do. Flying to location is just as risky as being on location itself especially when you are drilling an exploratory well and prognosis suggests highly pressured reservoirs. Food is served 5-7am/pm & 11 -1am/pm. ofcourse you have the best of local & continental dishes but after a while you just get tired of the food & become home sick. Working offshore when everything goes well can be boring, it gets interesting when you have a technical challenge to resolve, however you would rather everything goes smoothly (my opinion). Hey! I remember once flying out of location and 10 mins into the flight, the chopper starts acting funny, being the only passenger, I peeped to see the reaction on the faces of the pilots; tense. Worse still I saw them flipping through the pages of a manual and the contents of the manual were stuff like hydraulic failure, mechanical failure etc. My worst fear was confirmed! thankfully, they found a solution to the problem and 35 mins later, we landed safely at NAF base. In all, it is a beautiful experience.

I do not completely agree with this. MDs of oil producing companies earn well over 1M dollars per annum. I know this for sure! So if the list is properly compiled, only the stanbic lady stands a chance of being in the top 10 (assuming the figures are correct).

Well, from personal experience, I will say YES. My wife of several years now was my classmate in the University. You guys need to just make it work and prayerfully too.Your priority though must be to complement each other academically as that is your primary reason for being in school. The 2007 honda accord EX-L is a good machine to drive, though it's more expensive than others. I ve been driving mine for a year now and no single major issue. I ve driven through floods, very bumpy roads and all, still it remains strong. Just ensure you service as often as necessary. Also make sure you get a copy of the manual and have it handy at all times. Once you change the engine oil, be sure to adjust the oil life to 100%, following the instructions spelt out in the manual, as most of these mechanics do not know how to do it. Use original parts at all times. Before you pay for the car, run thorough diagnostics-VERY IMPORTANT. Where you can get a good one, honestly I do not know. I combed the major areas where you have car dealers for over 2 months, including the whole stretch of western avenue and ikorodu road but didnt quite get what I wanted-I managed to get mine by a stroke of luck from a private seller, you may however try Inspired Autos. Engineers definitely. It might also interest you that a lot of Chartered Accountants hold first degrees in various Engineering disciplines. Many banks have Engineers as directors, a good example is UBA with half of the board of executive directors being Engineers, including the Group Managing Director himself.

My heart goes out to those involved in this blow out. Good we have in house people who have some information about the incidence and have helped to educate the ignorant ones. One hopes that in the coming days, we can have someone with the details give us an insight into what led to the blow out so that other people in the oil and gas industry can learn from it. People should accord offshore workers due respect as everything about the job is highly risky including chopper flights to and fro location, not to talk of the operational risks either on the rig or production platforms. However good the money may seem, it is nothing compared to the associated risk. I had my heart in my mouth the last time I flew from the rig to NAF base because the chopper developed a mechanical fault mid way into the flight however God saved us from a crash. This is what all others in the industry endure to maintain the country's oil producing status. May God continue to protect us all.

It's unbeleivable that hitherto contractors were given jobs by the FG without them posting performance bonds. I wont even be suprised to know that they get advance payment without an advance payment guarantee/bond. These are fundamental business practices with which clients safeguard their funds and quailty of job delivered. One only hopes that this policy will be implemented to the letter. it's realy a shame!

The delay is so much these days. I submitted 20/9/11 and received a message today 28/10/11 that Visas are ready- for me, wife and son. I noticed the visas were actually issued 27/10/11, exactly 37 days after submitting the application and to think that the last uk visa I got in 2008 was issued within 2 working days!

ADVICE TO ALL- Apply 2 months to travel date, if possible.

I want God to punish my past university lecturer- MR AJANAKU. he taught me physical and inorganic chemistry in part 2. I was in chemical engineering dept. He didnt release my result after the exams, not only me, about 20 of us. i was to search for my scripts because sometimes they erroneously fail to record scores for some students, even my practical chemistry taught by another lecturer was not released initially, i searched for it and found it-I had i think 91A.
This wicked man(AJANAKU) who claimed to be a deacon in the church, kept telling me to come back to search, i visited him about 100 times between 2nd semester 200 level and 2nd semester 400level when i was on I.T in Lagos. The school was in Ogbomoso. On one of the visits i recall mentioning to him that I was sure I made an A in that course because I had A in all other chemistry courses i ve been taught and he replied " So you are making mockery of our department, abi" i told him NO and that the intention was to let him know that chemistry was my favourite course and i just loved it.
For 2 yrs, i begged AJANAKU to let me search for my scripts but he always gave excuses. The most annoying one was when I was on IT, i came to Ogbomoso all the way from Lagos-a 3 hr journey, when i got to his office, he had some girls with him so he told me he was busy, I should come back. I pleaded with him to allow me go into the store where scripts where kept to search for my script as i had to return to lagos that same day. He refused, he asked me to go and come back in 3 hrs. I did and when i returned, he told me he was too busy to allow me search for the script. I was humiliated!
When we resumed for part 5,-my final year, I had to speak with the Faculty Officer-Mrs Oloke, who was a friend's aunt on the matter. She followed me to him and alas! he dropped a bombshell, TERMITES HAVE EATEN THE SCRIPTS WHERE HE KEPT THEM SO I HAD TO RE-REGISTER FOR THE COURSE! That semester was the last opportunity otherwise I would have an extra year despite never having an F and being a 4 pointer! I registered for the course and sat for the exam and despite being sure of a resounding A, I got an E, I didnt bother contesting it as it was inconsequential. I still made my solid 2.1 and now work in an oil company.
May GOD PUNISH AJANAKU wherever he is(I think he later went to Covenant University, not sure) for all the pains and humiliation he caused me and many other students!

GYAN has been the most outstanding African player this year. I dont think Etoo was a fair choice, the hand of Issa Hayatou again.

Gyan was better than Etoo in CAN 2010 leading his young and inexperienced side all the way to the final before narrowly losing to the Egyptians. He even scored the goal that sent our own Eagles packing.

At the World cup, he yet again outshone Etoo. He was so good that his goals took his team to the quarter finals, though his penalty miss also saw them missing out on a chance to play in the semis; a feat which would have been an unprecedented one by any African side.

The young man moved to Sunderland in the summer and already he s setting the premiership on fire with his goals.

As an ardent Super Eagles fan, i have nt forgiven Gyan for scoring against us in the Nations' Cup semi final match(lol) but as a supporter of football, i submit that GYAN and not Etoo deserved to be named King of African football 2010.
