SportsSuper Eagles Yet To Receive $15,000 Bonus For Beating Ivory Coast by olokfor(op): 8:54pm On Feb 05, 2013
From indications, it appears that the members of the Super Eagles, have not recieved the $15,000 they were promised, for progressing into the
semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations.

An NFF source in South Africa, disclosed that they had submitted a budget of about N1.4billion to the
National Sports Commission,but received
N400million, before the competition started. And as
such, the NFF is finding it hard to
fulfill its responsility towards the players and officials,as they prepare to face Mali on Wednesday.

“We don’t know exactly what is going on. We are still expecting money from the NSC so that we can pay our debt and fulfil other responsibilities to the team. They have done well by reaching the
semi-finals and we should show our appreciation,” the source, who preferred to be
anonymous said.

He however stated that the Eagles have shown great understanding so far,as the delay in payments have clearly not affected
their performances, but expressed fear that
discouragement could set in. The source added that
they were hopeful that it will all be sorted out, before Wednesday’s game, saying: “We have hope that with the progress we have achieved, the money will come before Wednesday.”

HealthWoman Gave Birth To Headless Baby In Osun State by olokfor(op): 10:51am On Feb 05, 2013
In what might be termed ‘stranger than fiction,’a woman on Saturday gave birth to a headless baby at a mission centre in Sekona community, near Ede, Osun State.

It took the intervention of police to control the crowd that had thronged the mission center to catch a glimpse of the mysterious baby.A section of the crowd initially suspected foul play when they thought that the head of the baby was severed for ritual purpose but when the police took the baby to government hospital Ede for investigation, the crowd that followed up on the matter, were later enlightened following a thorough
check on the baby by a doctor, that the birth was a rare case of deformity.

According to police public relation officer in
Osun,Folasade Odoro, the dead baby had since
been returned to the mother for burial.

SportsMan Dies Watching Nigeria Vs Ivory Coast by olokfor(op): 8:43pm On Feb 04, 2013
BY DAUD OLATUNJI
ABEOKUTA-A- 40 year old Moshood Ismail Owolabi was reported to have slumped and died on Sunday at a viewing centre located at Lanlepe compound, Oke-Sokori in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital during the quarter final match of the African Cup of Nation between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire.

Owolabi, an Engineer with Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Federal Ministry of Works in Abeokuta was said to have been immediately rushed to a nearby clinic, Success Medical Clinic where he was given a first aid before being referred to another hospital (First Alpha).

He was said to have died on the way to First Alpha hospital also in Abeokuta.

The Super Eagles fan who died in Abeokuta on Sunday while watching Nigeria vs Ivory Coast match.

Confirming his death the medical Director of the Clinic, Sulaiman Kolawole told Vanguard that Owolabi was already dead before he was brought to the clinic and that all effort to rescue him hit the rock.

While explaining the cause of his death, the Medical Director told our correspondent that the incident was as a result of excessive intake of carbondioxide which he said was persistent for a longer period of time before resulting to what he called anoxia.

“Immediately the boy was brought, he was brought dead, from what I learnt, I was told by a close friend that he had a fatal accident about two months ago and he was treated and managed.

“It supposed to be an heart attack, because the way I saw him, he looked weak, he doesn’t look agile and healthy, he looked like some who has been sick for a very long period of time, he looked like someone who is managing his life and now facing a lot of crowd with shortage of oxygen in that area, we call it anoxia, excessive intake of carbondioxide persistently for a longer period of time but it was late before he was brought here,” he said.

When Vanguard visited the viewing centre Monday, it was observed that, the ramshackle wooden place had a very small window from where ventilation only enters and the place was said to be containing about hundred football fans.

An eye witness told Vanguard that late Owolabi who was married with two children couldn’t control himself when Victor Moses missed a very good chance resulting in his collapse.

A neighbour of the deceased who was also at the viewing center when the incident happened, Taiwo Adebayo narrated that it was like a cardiac arrest adding that he started foaming when he fell on ground.

Adebayo disagreed with the Medial Director of Success Medical Clinic saying that Owolabi was immediately rescued and taken to the clinic alive. He added that the Doctor was not available on getting to the hospital.

He said the deceased later died on the way to another hospital where he was referred to.

“We were together when the match started, when Moses played a shot on target and it was deflected off by another opposing player, it was that time that he fell on someone’s laps as is if he suffered from cardiac arrest and he started foaming.

“I grabbed him immediately and rushed him to the hospital when we got to success hospital, the Doctor was not available and the nurses tried giving him first aid when the doctor was contacted, then he was still breathing.

“When the doctor came, he checked him and immediately referred him to another hospital (First Alpha), on the way going, the gear of the vehicle got damaged and we secured a taxi after some minutes.

“When we got the hospital, the Doctor confirmed him dead. We went to his father at Kugba area in Abeokuta and the man gave a go ahead for his burial,” he narrated.

Adebayo described Owolabi as a very jovial person who, according to him, will always be noticed where ever he is because of his attitude to people.

Owolabi’s widow, Mrs Tawakalitu Temilola Ismail was still in shock when our correspondent visited her at the family’s flat in Abeokuta.

She described the incident as a dream adding that her late husband was busy wandering around the area with a close friend for hours before the mach later started.

She hinted that he later husband left behind aged parents who are in their 80s.

“He was involved in an accident about two months ago, the accident was fatal and he survived it, but this incident was like a dream but we give thanks to Almighty Allah,” she hinted in a very low voice.

PoliticsOsun Demolishes 3,000 Public School Buildings by olokfor(op): 4:44pm On Feb 01, 2013
Osun State, on Thursday, disclosed that it had demolished 3,000 dilapidated school buildingsout of the 4,000 deplorable school buildings identified across the 30 local government areas in the state.
The government, which also allayed the fears of residents of the state on the planned merger of the primary and post primary schools in the state, contended that the development was targeted at repositioning thestate’s educational sector, with much emphasis on delivery of quality knowledge to the pupils.

Addressing newsmen in Osogbo, on Thursday, the chairman, Osun Schools Infrastructure Development Committee (O’ schools), Chief Lai Oyeduntan, stated that his committee had spotted schools with dangerously dilapidated structures in the state and will replace them with new ones.
He hinted that 100 model elementary schools would be built in the state, while 50 middle schools and 20 high schools would also be built in the nine federal constituencies of the state before the end of this year.

While contending that most of the school buildings in the state were constructed by the administration of former Premier of the old Western region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and that of the former governor of the old Oyo State, Chief Bola Ige, Oyeduntan observed that the buildings were weak and could no longer stand
the test of time.

According to him, most of the school buildings erected during the administration of the immediate past Governor of the state, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola were either located close to high ways or of low quality standard, a development which compelled the government to demolish them.
He explained that the buildings that were demolished were not only those built by the government of Oyinlola as insinuated by somepeople, stressing that the present governmentin the state does not put political sentiments into its actions and deeds.

Oyeduntan who said arrangements had already been concluded to ensure that the planned merger of schools succeed, assured that all envisaged challenges that may affect the new government policy have been considered, such that the policy would be beneficial to all the stakeholders in the education sector including parents and pupils.

PoliticsObasanjo Almost Lost His Joystick During Civil War by olokfor(op): 3:43pm On Jan 19, 2013
I Almost Lost My Manhood During Civil War - Obasanjo

Obasanjo appealed to Nigerians to move beyond the civil war. Nigeria’s former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, has said that he has no regrets over the various actions he took during the Nigerian civil war (1967-1970).

Mr. Obasanjo, a retired Army General, was one of the soldiers that led Nigeria’s military onslaught against Biafran soldiers leading to the eventual surrender of the Biafrans. Controversies have trailed the war with some intellectuals like foremost writer, Chinua Achebe, accusing the Nigerian troop and government of genocide against the Igbos.

Mr. Obasanjo, who spoke on Friday, at a reception held in his honour by the Peoples Democratic Party, however, said all the decisions he took then were for the growth of the country and he has no regrets taking them.

“I don’t have any regret over some actions or decisions taken then, and I don’t have any apology over that, because it was in the interest of all,” he said.

Mr. Obasanjo said that he almost lost his private part during the war, as a shrapnel hit him on the pelvic region during the war. The former president said his late cousin who died at the age of 92 recently, was still of the conviction that his dead son was still alive and resident in the defunct Biafra Republic.

He, however, used the occasion to call on all Nigerians to put the memory of the civil war behind them and concentrate on the development and growth of Nigeria as a nation.

I’m no coup plotter.

Mr. Obasanjo also said he never participated in any military coup in the country throughout his military carrier.
He said the coup planners only consulted him at the end of each coup.

“I have never participated in any coup, I just sit down jeje…and they later get in touch with me,” he told guests at the colourful ceremony. Mr. Obasanjo became Nigeria’s vice military ruler in 1975 after a coup removed the Yakubu Gowon led military government. He became military head of state after another coup led to the death of his boss, Murtala Muhammed.

PoliticsJonathan Dares Not Come To My Church – Bakare by olokfor(op): 9:58am On Jan 19, 2013
Pastor Tunde Bakare, Senior Pastor of the Latter Rain Assembly and former running mate of Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari in the last presidential election, speaks withKUNLE ADEYEMI and ADEOLA BALOGUNon some burning national issues

One year after the fuel subsidy protests, when you look back, would you say the protests achieved their goals?

When there are clear goals and objectives for any movement or protest, then you have the opportunity of judging whether those goals are attained or accomplished. We didn’t just rush out; if you recall, the increase in petrol pump price took place on January 1, 2012. Like a sadist, the President gave us a cause to be sorrowful on the first day of the year; even those who didn’t even have vehicles of their own and had to pay through their noses to move from one place to the other. The Save Nigeria Group sat down to analyse the situation and joined the protest in Ojota with its allies. There were pockets of protests here and there; there was a general strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress; then we sat down and set the objectives clearly: that the increase in pump price was not our problem but corruption. We said the time had come for us to educate and enlighten our citizens and unblock their minds as to the root cause of the continuous increase in petrol pump price all the time and the affliction and oppression inflicted on the people of this country. That’s why we came out with the watchword, “Kill Corruption and not Nigerians.” And I leave it to you as journalists to see whether or not we accomplished our objectives because immediately we began to hammer that, probe after probe, live on television came out. There is no Nigerian anywhere in this country and in the Diaspora that does not know that filthiness is in our garments. Corruption is the bane and we have unmasked the masquerade.

It was alleged that you led the protest because your party lost the election to the President’s party.

You cannot tell clueless people not to reason wrongly. Did all the people who participated in that protest run for an election? All the musicians that came there, all the artistes that came there without taking a penny from us, did they run for any election? And even if you are going to judge me that it was because you rigged an election that you said we lost, that led to the protest, did I ask you to increase the pump price? And if you are to judge me, judge me by my overall character; did I stand for you when you were being oppressed, Mr. President? Was I a politician when we led and took to the streets in Abuja and Lagos where we stood against every form of oppression and injustice because injustice to one is injustice to all? Were we sponsored by politicians when we took to the streets in January, 2010 after the prolonged illness of (Umaru) Yar’Adua? You can’t help people who don’t engage their brain to think; they are entitled to their opinion. But let me tell you the truth, there was no political motivation of any kind to that protest. We rose to protest an injustice being meted out to a people deserving not only respect, but those whose welfare should be the primary concern of a good government. Everybody is aware now that somebody is watching somebody. With all the exposure of corruption in high places, everyone is careful and they are so scared. In spite of threatening to increase the price of PMS, they couldn’t, although they are doing it illegally by allowing people to sell at any price they like. But it is still illegal and that is why I dared them three days ago to come out and increase the petrol price without cushioning the effect and providing alternative for the people. They will know that it is for the dog to wag the tail, not the tail to wag the dog; people will tell them enough is enough.

Don’t you think that 2015 is still far away for campaigning to have started?

They have signalled the campaign by going to kneel down before Pastor Adeboye (General Overseer, Redeemed Christian Church of God). See, I am not saying that pastors should not pray for presidents, that man was representing an office; a whole nation crumbling before men of God because of political advantage they think they can get. And if the prayer will bail him out, let us wait and see. The truth is who is preparing for 2015, which faction of the PDP? Is it the (Olusegun) Obasanjo faction? Or IBB faction? Or Jonathan faction? The governors’ faction? Because PDP is a house divided against itself; it’s a chicken that has begun to eat its own intestines. By going to kneel down in the open before the pastor, the man (Jonathan) did not even recognise the dignity of his office. If it were a private thing, it is okay for you to crawl or kneel but it is a whole nation. That office has been diminished by a man who does not know the worth of it and does not deserve to stay there for one more day.

What then should be the role of religious leaders like you in the affairs of the nation?

I am not a religious leader. I don’t believe in religion; religion is deadly. Jesus Christ did not start a religion here. He began a relationship with God. Let’s separate the two. Religious leaders don’t think any more, they lose their brain. Paul said, I speak the words of truth and reason. What is the impact of the church in this country other than to pray for men who have stolen the treasury and wealth of the nation and coming back to give us different kinds of gifts; giving us jets and all kinds of things that will silence us so that we cannot speak the truth to power? I know the church that Jesus Christ is building will continue to wax stronger but this synagogue of Satan will fold up soon. I hate religion with passion.

How will you assess the Jonathan administration so far?

Under Jonathan’s leadership, Nigeria as a whole has become a titanic ship on sail to hit the iceberg and sink. Right-thinking people must rise to rescue the helm of that ship from his (Jonathan’s) hand before he wrecks the entire nation. We have promoted men who have no mental capacity to do what we ask them to do. At a meeting we had on Monday to mark the anniversary of the protest, the Chairman of Punch Editorial Board brought this to my consciousness by describing leadership of Nigeria as inept. He said we have put men who have been promoted beyond their mental capacity in position. That is our problem.

Many people believe that the PDP has become an albatross to Nigerians and that is why there is a clamour for an alliance among the opposition parties in order to wrest power from the ruling party. What do you think has been hampering such alliance?

You have put me on the spot and I will only be truthful. In order to steer the ship of Nigeria aright, there must be a handshake across the Niger; between the North and the South. But it must be of like minds; the best of the North and the best of the South. How that will take place is a function of many factors. An alliance is not the way forward. In a presidential system of government, there is no opposition; it’s winner takes all. If the party in power has a majority in the National Assembly, they don’t need anybody. That is the weakness of the presidential system of government. Each time they talk of opposition, I think we are so much inundated by our past experience with the parliamentary system where the prime minister can be removed from the parliament and nothing will happen because the system allows it. But the presidential system does not brook any opposition, except only when they don’t have the majority. I think the way forward is a merger of all the so-called opposition parties especially the Action Congress of Nigeria, All Nigeria Peoples Party and the Congress for Progressive Change. But I realised recently when the ACN said PDP is a party of rogues and thieves and criminals, the PDP replied that there are more criminals in the ACN than the PDP and there was no response thereafter. I read all that in the newspapers. If there is going to be a merger, between who and who-between rogues and criminals? Can light and darkness co-exist? Let’s pray that men and women of goodwill will rise and do the needful. However, having said all that, I am of the firm belief and conviction that there will be no election in 2015. I am of the firm belief that this house of cards will collapse before 2015. As it is now, what we have does not have what it takes to drag Nigeria along; and anything can happen anytime from now. And I pray that it would be what would be for the benefit of the entire nation. Each time we have spoken that way, some have thought we are calling for the military to take over. What did the military do for the nation before? Don’t let me be misunderstood, except we have a kind of Jehu revolution, where the worshippers of bell and the worshippers of the altar of greed are all dealt with as it happened in Ghana. Then, there may be some hope there. Our people may revolt, which can happen so unexpectedly. Remember what happened when the Shah of Iran ran away from that country and the Arab Spring? It would be worse here because they have pushed people beyond limit. Look at the level of insecurity, daylight robbery; you are coming out of the church and they are pointing a gun at you. North is not safe, there is Boko Haram; South-East is not safe, there is kidnapping; South is not safe, there is pipeline vandalism. And fire is now ravaging everywhere. People have been pushed beyond limit and there may be a people’s revolt. Beyond this, there is God almighty, who may say the cries of the people have come up to Him, enough is enough.

When you as a man of God says there will be no election in 2015, is that as a result of a vision or what?

Leave that to me but by the time this nation is 100 years old in 2014, God will answer the prayer of the people of God and there will be a new beginning. The madness that is going on everywhere now is that God is hardening the heart of Pharaoh.

The President warned a few days ago against statements that could destabilise the country such as this.

Is the nation not destabilised already? What have we said that will destabilise the country? Let’s call a spade a spade and not an agricultural implement.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo also warned against a revolution recently going by the way things are going…

He said the truth but he would be the first victim that it would consume because he caused the problem; by forcing the weak and the sick on the nation. A few days ago, Adamu Ciroma came out to say that Obasanjo knew that the late Umaru Yar’Adua was sick. Just wait, the result is about to happen. He did that as a way of revenging on Nigeria for the collapse of his third term agenda but Obasanjo will be the first victim of the revolution. I presented a lecture on Sunday that Obasanjo had the greatest opportunity to put Nigeria in proper shape and to leave a legacy for generations unborn. But he chose not to do that. I had the privilege of launching a book in honour of a venerable man, Chief Akin Olugbade, an Owu, to mark his centenary birthday if he were alive. I said Owu as a kingdom had produced angels in human flesh like the late Akin Olugbade, whose generosity and philanthropy benefitted a person like me. I went there to say that this is a return on investment and I gave the little that I had. If Obasanjo dares, let both of us walk through Itoku Market in Abeokuta even as an Owu man without any aide, or the streets of Sokoto among the almajiris. That is why I told them that Owu kingdom has produced angels and demons such as Obasanjo, who incidentally is called Ebora Owu. Ebora means demon and demons are to be exorcised. Our job is to cast out demons of Owu and that we would do by God’s grace.

How do you see the rift between Obasanjo and Jonathan; probably Obasanjo has realised his mistakes and now thinks it is better to fight on the side of the people?

Obasanjo does not realise anything. I think Jonathan has surpassed him in misgovernance and he is frightened. It is only a thief that knows the footprint of another thief on a rock. How did he come by his big house? How much was Obasanjo worth when he left the prison, how much is he worth now? How did he come about his big investments? How much was he paid as President of Nigeria. Let him explain. What we have is a government of crooks by crooks.

In the last election, you tried politics. What should we expect now?

I didn’t try politics. I was invited to assist a person whom I thought was a honest man and would be surrounded by good people and then we would fight corruption. That was the only reason. I was a running mate; I wasn’t a member of any party. I was invited but I am back in my element to keep doing what I am doing. That ended there; if the opportunity comes to serve my country in any capacity, I will but I am not forming any party.

What did you see in Maj.-Gen.Mohammadu Buhari before you joined him?

His integrity and his anti-corruption stance stood him out. He is the only head of state alive who made the public statement that in his entire public service career, as a governor, as a commissioner (now minister), as a commandant of different army formations and as a head of state, he never touched one penny in the public treasury; that he can account for everything God has given him. His mother’s house was built through a loan both in Daura and in Kaduna. The one in Lagos, he had to sell to fund the one he took a loan to build in Abuja because he didn’t know how to steal. He is very forthright and honest; that’s all I saw and if we can surround such a man with people who have the capability and the capacity to run the state and the treasury is safe and there is no more stealing and Nigeria is no longer haemorrhaging, we can salvage it. That was why we assembled a change team that we thought would be allowed but they rigged the election.

Some people believe that if somebody like you becomes the President of Nigeria, there will be more evidence of despotic actions in governance. How would you react to this?

The only way to judge that is to come to a church I have headed for more than 20 years and see whether there is any evidence of despotism. Then you come to my house and see my wife and children to see if there is an evidence of despotic actions. I am not a despot and in fact, how can you be a despot in a democratic setting? Don’t forget I am a trained lawyer; I would not violate the rule of law. No true leader should be a despot.

Apart from corruption, security is another challenge facing the country and the Presidency has had to change the head of police several times because of this. So far, how would you assess the present IG, Muhammed Abubakar?

There is nobody you put there who can accomplish anything about insecurity because the fish starts smelling from the head. If you say corruption is not the problem, what leads to insecurity if not corruption? The IG can give orders but the men at the toll gates and roadblocks are there to perpetuate corruption. Corruption and violence are Siamese twins and in Genesis, God said He was grieved in His heart that He created man, that the earth was corrupt and there was violence everywhere. You can’t find corruption and not see violence. I do not approve of what Boko Haram is doing but if you grant amnesty to those who were vandalising the pipelines because of fighting for what they claimed was legitimately theirs, and Boko Haram are saying their governors are not taking care of them, who are you to judge them? Why have they not been able to fix the problem?

But it has always been argued that Boko Haram is faceless and so it would be difficult to engage its elements…

Boko Haram faceless and yet Obasanjo met with them? I don’t know them but the President of Nigeria said Boko Haram members were in his cabinet. Who are those he alleged were in his cabinet, are they ghosts? What led to the removal of the late Gen. (Andrew) Azazi as National Security Adviser? They are totally insincere. There is PDP Boko Haram. Let them not fool you. They arrested some people in Jos and elsewhere, why have they not been able to prosecute anyone with all the arrests? Do you think it is the Boko Haram that started in the Borno area that are the ones planting sophisticated bombs everywhere now? Please let’s think; there is security Boko Haram, there is political Boko Haram and there is criminal Boko Haram.

Recently the government came out to say electricity has improved a bit but the way you are talking, it’s like it has not done anything.

If a man told me a lie yesterday and I believed him but it turned out to be false; and he told me a lie a day before, how long am I to continue to believe him? Nigerians have been told of improved electricity in recent months but how many parts of the country have you travelled to? They are putting electricity where you make noise so that you don’t bother them. I still burn diesel in my house everyday up till now and my budget for diesel both in the church and in my house has increased with all the noise they are making. And by the way, how much have they invested in electricity generation and how much electricity have they produced?

But the government has been trying to put electricity generation into private hands for improvement.

I have had the opportunity of living in both Britain and America for six years each and I never met the electricity officials. All I had to do was to pay my bills; that was all. All the privatisation noise they are making is fraught with deep-seated corruption. They sell everything to themselves. They have been mentioning privatisation when I was still in my mother’s womb. Once upon a time, there was ECN and there was stable electricity. They are insincere and they sell everything to themselves.

How do you see the politicking involved in the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway project, where a lot of lives have been lost? Soon after the contract was withdrawn from Dr.Wale Babalakin, he was arrested for alleged money laundering.

Evil is self-destruct. That’s all I see there. If Babalakin is being tried for something, the question is, is it true? If it is false, then the trial will fall on its face. I have told you that it is only the thief that knows how to trace the footsteps of another on a rock. They know what they are doing. If you remain in our camp and you don’t attack us, you remain our friend. Babalakin used to be the solicitor for Obasanjo, have they fallen out? Was there anything between Babalakin and the minister and is there a fall out? But the truth is, can they come and revoke a contract that I have not seen or can they come and charge me for money laundering? My accounts are in the open and if you access them, you will see that it has been regular. And every business I have done, I have gone to the banks for legitimate loans and I have paid back those loans. If you have done no evil, you need not fear no evil. So, if Babalakin has done no evil, no evil will befall him. But if he has done it, then let him find a way of reaching out to them before they wreck him completely because they are vicious. What is going on on that road is the failure of the entire nation. Leadership has failed Nigerians. That is the main road that connects the South and the North and any serious government should have done something about it. I am aware that the South-West governors showed an interest and met with the President but I don’t know why they were not allowed to do it. There is more to it than we ordinary citizens know.

As kinsmen, people would expect a kind of rapport between you and Obasanjo but you are one of his critics. Is there something personal?

Apart from answering questions about him in interviews, I don’t think or talk about him at all because he does not even occur in my thinking. If Obasanjo is my kinsman, does it mean that if he does evil, I should keep quiet? I have no personal hatred for him. Let me tell you something, I don’t know whether he knows but I am saying the truth and it can be verified. When he was in prison, one of the pastors that went to minister to him, I sent him. He was a member of our network. When he was in prison, two of his children were brought here because their school fees could not be paid by one of his wives, I paid the fees. I have nothing against him.

On a personal note, do you at times regret leaving the pulpit and venturing into politics?

Look at me, as the Lord lives and when the opportunity presents itself, because of my interest in an orderly society, I will do it again. I have no regret. When good men leave politics alone, evil men will continue to traumatise the nation. And by the way, I never left the pulpit, in all the months of electioneering, I was absent in church only one Sunday because it caught up with me in Borno and I couldn’t get back. Gen. Buhari knew that by Friday night, or latest Saturday morning, I must be back in Lagos to feed the flock.

Supposing the President chooses to come and fellowship at your church, what would you do?

Let him try it. Jonathan dares not and if he does, he will sit at the back.

What is the Nigeria of your dream?

The Nigeria that works in my lifetime, that is the Nigeria of my dream. My ears have heard about this great nation, my eyes will see it in my own lifetime. I am not an ambitious person and that is why I can come back here.

CrimeSenior Police Office’s Wife Kidnapped In Abuja by olokfor(op): 9:38am On Jan 19, 2013

It was learnt that the officer whose wife was allegedly abducted around Wuse market at about 12noon, is the head of a monitoring unit in the Zone 7, Police Headquarters, in charge of Niger state, Plateau state and the Federal Capital Territory.

The FCT Police command is yet to give an official reaction.

However, sources are of the opinion that the officer’s wife kidnapped may not be unconnected with certain sensitive cases that he (the officer) was handling.

NYSCSome NYSC Members Can’t Speak English Language- NYSC DG by olokfor(op): 9:31am On Jan 19, 2013
Some National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members can hardly communicate in English Language, the Director-General of NYSC, Brig-Gen. Nnamdi Okore-Affia, has said.
Okore-Affia made the statement in Ilorin while addressing the 2013 batch A pre-mobilisation workshop.

He said that the level of academic deficiency among corps members had heightened corps rejection and redundancy.

“Unfortunately too, we have corps members who can hardly communicate in English Language let alone being able to teach in the classrooms.

” This worrisome development has resulted in a situation whereby members of the public wrongly condemn the NYSC for the poor academic standards displayed by these corps members,’’ Okore- Affia said.

He said the inability of academic institutions to produce eligible corps members had become a herculean task for NYSC management.

He added, “going through the figures presented for mobilisation by Corps Producing Institutions (CPIs) in year 2012,it was discovered that many exceeded the admission quota approved by regulatory bodies by as much as 500 per cent in extreme cases.

PoliticsOnly Lagos State Can Survive Without Oil In Nigeria–govt. Babatunde Fashola by olokfor(op): 7:42am On Jan 18, 2013
Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State says Lagos is the only state that can survive if crude oil supply–the mainstay of Nigeria economy- is shut down.

Fashola explained that this was possible because the government in the state had made it a policy to implement the laws on taxation to the letter, which allows it to have funds for capital project.
He spoke on Thursday during the state’s sixth Taxation Stakeholders Conference in Ikeja.

The governor said,“A life without tax is a lie. If they shut down on oil, this is the only state that can survive. Everything that we have done in the past six years was funded by our taxes.
“Since I became governor, I have not made any tax law; only implementing the existing laws on taxation.”

Fashola, however, observed that majority of the state residents had not been paying their taxes, saying the government had started prosecution to achieve higher percentage in tax compliance by residents of the state.

He said,“While our population continues to grow, one cannot see appreciable growth in tax. Our record shows that only three million people are currently paying their taxes against eight million that should pay tax.

“Since we have a population of 20 million people in this state, it means that three million people are carrying the burden of 20 million, instead of eight that should be doing so. In the last four years, we have been doing enlightenment on the need to pay tax; but now, we will prosecute.”

The governor also explained that the government had made a list of the tax regime of the local governments which had been signed into law. He advised residents to acquaint themselves with the law so there would be no confusion.

He said his administration had judiciously managed revenue generated to turn the state into a place where everything works.

Well, like we would say, these kind of things only happen in Nigeria.

We really can’t figure out the concept behind this wedding reception, but our rough guess is that the couple love the idea of Burj Arab in Dubai, and were keen on recreating something close to it here.

However, they scaled down theirs to a swimming pool, not the middle of an ocean.

PoliticsNigeria Owes China $678.91m – DMO by olokfor(op): 7:35am On Jan 17, 2013
Nigeria is indebted to the Peoples Republic of China by $678.91m and not $6.26bn as earlier reported.
Information obtained by our correspondent from the Debt Management Office revealed that Nigeria’s indebtedness to China represented 99.95 per cent of the country’s total debts to bilateral and commercial creditors as at September 30, 2012.
According to the DMO, the total debt to bilateral and commercial creditors during the period under review stood at $679.22, of which $678.91m is from China.
However, China’s credit facilities to Nigeria may rise due to fresh loan agreements signed by the two countries.

According to DMO, loans under negotiations from China or any other country do not constitute debt.
It said, “It is important to clarify that even if Nigeria is negotiating a new loan from China (or indeed from any other country), the loan under negotiation does not constitute a debt.
“Even when the loan is eventually contracted through the signing of loan agreement after due approval by the National Assembly, it will still not be part of the debt stock. Only the amount of the contracted loan disbursed to and received by the country, is qualified to becounted as part of the debt stock.”
However, after September 30, 2012, the Federal Government signed fresh financing agreements with Chinese institutions, though details of the expected drawdown of most of the loans are not yet known.

For instance, the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, had on September 11, 2012 in Beijing, signed three loan agreementswith the China Exim Bank. The agreements are for $500m for the Abuja Light Rail Project;$500m for the construction of four airport terminals in the country; and $100m for the Galaxy Backbone expansion of connectivity among government ministries, departments and agencies.
Also, on November 6, 2012, the government signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Sinohydro Corporation and China National Electric Engineering Corporation for the construction of the Mambila and Zungeru hydro power plants.
It was disclosed then that the Mambila plant would cost $3.2bn, with the contractors raising 85 per cent of the cost; while Zungeru would cost $1.3bn with the Federal Government contributing 25 per cent of the sum as counterpart funding.
The loan agreement signing was witnessed byministers of Aviation, Federal Capital Territoryand Works (State), Ms. Stella Oduah, Senator Bala Mohammed, and Ambassador Bashir Yuguda, respectively, who were part of the team that worked out the final details of the agreement.
Also present were the Director-General, DMO, Dr. Abraham Nwankwo, and Special Adviser tothe President on Performance Monitoring, Prof. Sylvester Monye.

Explaining the rationale for prioritising the projects for which the loans would be utilised, Okonjo-Iweala said they were targeted at making a difference in the lives of Nigerians across socio-economic segments.
She said, “President Goodluck Jonathan is keeping his promise to Nigerians through these important projects. The light rail in Abuja will improve transportation for all residents, especially the working class.

“The Galaxy Backbone project will help to improve service delivery in areas like education and health, while empowering the youth with better connectivity to the rest of the world.
“And the five new airport terminals will, like the others, create jobs and also ensure that Nigerian air passengers enjoy the services and convenience that their counterparts in other parts of the world take for granted.”
On the Abuja light rail project, Mohammed had said, “We are here for formality. We are here to start drawing from the facilities so thatthe Chinese company that is handling it, CCECC, will get the finance.”

The project had earlier been suspended for lack of finance, but with the new financing window, the construction resumed.
On the new airport terminals, Oduah, had while announcing the loan in September 2012, indicated that mobilisation to site would begin within 90 days.

The loan, which was to be utilised by a Chinese firm for the construction of the airportterminals, has 22-year tenure, a moratorium of five years and an interest rate of two per cent per annum.
Oduah had said, “Following the approval of Federal Executive Council, we have concludedarrangements to commence the construction of not just one, but five brand new and world class international airports.

“The contracts for the construction of the five airports have a lifespan of 24 months. The projects are to be executed with a concessionary loan of 22 years with five years moratorium at an interest rate of two per cent.
“Mobilisation to site by the contractors is expected to commence within 90 days. What this means is that before the end of the lifespan of this administration, we would have been able to bequeath to Nigerians the airports of their dreams. This is a giant, bold step by the present administration to provide Nigerians and the travelling public with airports that truly tell the story of whom we are as a nation.”
On the modernisation of the Lagos-Kano rail line, the Federal Executive Council had on July 18, 2012 approved the $1bn loan from Exim Bank of China.

Announcing this at the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding for the award of contract, the Minister of Transport, Senator Idris Umar, said negotiations for $500m had been concluded, while negotiations for the second tranche of $500m would be concludedin due course.

On December 20, the Federal Government announced that the Abuja-Kano rail line had been restored under the contract. Maku praised the Federal Government for this achievement during his press briefing on the achievements of government on December 31, 2012.

PoliticsSanusi Bombshell! Calls For Ban Of CAN,ACF, JNI And Afenifere by olokfor(op): 7:56am On Jan 16, 2013
The controversial governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has turned his attention to ethno-religious groups in the country. He has urgedthe Federal Government to ban them as a way of curbing insecurity in the country.

“I almost didn’t want to attend this occasion because I am opposed to regional, ethnic andreligious groupings in this country. In fact, I would like the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Jamatul Nasril Islam (JNI) , Afenifere and all such other groups to be banned.”
Sanusi gave the suggestion at an inter-faith dinner organized by the Northern Reawakening Forum (NRF) in Abuja, on Tuesday.

He also asserted that all ethnic and religious groups in the country were actually political associations donning false cloak.

Elite fan embers of insecurity with religion
Sanusi, who attributed the state of insecurity in the country to a fall-out of the exclusiveness and marginalization which many Nigerians belonging to the younger generation had been subjected to, traced thecurrent insecurity in northern parts of the country to power struggle among the elite who use religion to pursue their goals.

He lamented that despite the fact that the Northern region’s land mass constitutes about 60 per cent of the Nigerian landmass and agriculture contributes 42 per cent to the Nigerian economy, the region remained impoverished.

He blamed the northern insurgency on the selfishness of the nation’s elite which had failed to see the future.
But his suggestion elicited immediate condemnation from leaders of the affected groups, who described Sanusi’s comments asirresponsible.
CAN says Sanusi’s comments capable of breaching security

In its reaction, CAN, which said it could not be banned, said Sanusi’s barrage of controversial comments portended more danger to security than any non-religious group in the country.
Secretary-General of CAN, Rev Musa Asake, said:

“CAN is not the cause of trouble or insecurity in this country. CAN was formed to protect the interests of Christians, especially in fighting persecution. CAN is not a government institution like NEMA, which any person can wake up and disband. The 1999 Constitution guarantees freedom of association and Sanusi cannot just wake up and call on anybody to proscribe it.

Sanusi has been making several controversial statements and as a CBN governor, he should not make controversial pronouncements like this one. It is this type of statement that causes problems, not CAN as an institution. It is unfortunate that at a time like this, when Christians are being kílled and churches burnt he is making this type of insensitive comment. CAN and JNI have come to stay. We have no quarrels and nobody can curtail CAN’s freedom of association as guaranteed by the constitution.”

CelebritiesAn Open Letter To Tonto Dikeh From An Igbo Man by olokfor(op): 9:57am On Jan 05, 2013
Dear Tonto Dikeh,

I know you feel beautiful this morning! Well, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. For me, you are nowhere near ‘beautiful’. You are just there. But before I tell you what I really want to tell you, I need to tell you something. There is a lady called Adele.

She is a singer. She sings. I need to explain what a singer means, because I understand that you have no brain at all. Because I hate sugar-coating, I am hated by a lot of people. You are just like me too. I will understand when people hate you, but, seriously, if you think Igbo men are nosy, then, you are right. That is your opinion and you must protect it.

I am an Igbo man. I will defend myself right now. Back to Adele. I will tell you everything about this young lady who transformed herself into something very beautiful in the eyes of men. I also understand that you don’t know her, but it won’t hurt if I tell you about her now. This is what TIME magazine wrote about her few days ago: “As talented and appealing as she is, few could foresee how utterly dominant Adele would be in 2011: in an era where even the highest-tier musical acts can struggle to move records, her sophomore effort, 21, sold 17 million copies worldwide and spent 16 weeks
at the top of the Billboard 200 chart, the longest for
any record since 1998′s Titanic sound track. Combined with sales of her previous album, 19, Adele has topped the U.K. charts for 21 weeks — a feat matched only by the bands Oasis and Queen.” Tonto nne m, Adele is 23.

You are older. She is not worried about her future. You are. She is focused about her music.
You are worried that no Igbo man will marry you after you’ve created yourself into a bamboo stick. Truth is that I don’t know you personally, but you’ve created a strong mystery around yourself. People see you as a soul from hell. They say you’ve sold your soul to the devil. Me, I don’t know where the devil lives, but I think you have. You even went ahead to show us tattoos at your back. I just didn’t understand why you did that. As
an Igbo man, I will never marry a woman who has
shown the entire world ‘my tattoos.’ It is not good. I
am an Igbo man, so I will need to know who snapped the picture. Maybe, your secret boyfriend? This is the reason why we are bad,

abi? Adele doesn’t go around seeking attention. She doesn’t pay anyone to publish pictures of her tattoos. Who knows? She may just have a lot of them. I haven’t seen them. I have seen yours.
There is nothing wrong in you tattooing your entire
body, but what is my business with that? Are you not supposed to be an actress? Of course, I understand that you appear in pornographic films now? That is good. At least, you are doing what you know best. But to pick on Igbo men? This is very unacceptable. You insulted a lot of us. This simply shows how unintelligent you are towards anthropology. Men are the same all over the
world. Igbo man, Yoruba man, Hausa man. We all treat women in similar ways. We love unconditionally. And we all become nosy when our women start acting like you. If your father is an Igbo man, dearest Tonto Dikeh,

you are a monkey. But I will be sorry if you didn’t say that. I only rely on the media, since I don’t know you personally. If you didn’t say it, Tonto, I am very sorry. I will publicly apologise. Yet, I believe you did, because you do so many things after marijuana. If it’s not good for your brain, stop smoking. Listen to Adele’s Someone Like You and you will feel good.
I don’t look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Onyeka Nwelue
