bingbagbo: Like them or hate them , Nigeria is one of the big football nations in Africa. Fact that they have won this AFCON three times is an epitome to this assertion. In terms of AFCON glory, they are only behind Egypt (7), Cameroon (5) and Ghana (4).Over the years they have produced quite some great players: my personal favourites being Wilson Oruma, Celestine Babayaro, Taiye Taiwo, Julius Aghahowa and Ike shorunmu. Nigeria played their first prelim game yesterday and as an independent, objective non-nigerian, I observed these 10 things.
1. Nigeria have a very technically astute coach in Gernot Rohr and their destiny in this AFCON solely depends on the experienced German.
2. Paul Onuachu, their top marksman is not a reliable goalpoacher.
3. Nigeria's weekest link is the man between the sticks, Daniel Akpeyi. He is full of stage fright.
4. Nigeria lacks a ball joggling creative attacking midfielder
5. Their secret weapon, Samuel Chukwueze, will be better as a sub, will be impotent as a starter against the big teams, mark my words
6. John Obi Mikel has always been an overhyped player. He is a waste in this Nigerian team, no wonder he is club less.
7. Nigeria's defence is a huge suspect, I can imagine how it will leak against Salah-Trezeguet, Mane-Niang, Gyan-Ayew
8. Oghenekaro Etebo is more dangerous in advanced midfield, he played too deep for the team, I think he is Nigeria's best player anyway
9. Odion Ighalo should be starting ahead of Paul Onuachu
10. With luck, this team can do quite well, and I mean quite well.
I don't hate nigeria Goan analyse your wack below average Ghanaian team full of expired old men |

Freehuman: Everyone was calling the referee a racist that day. I told you guys that's the new rule. It's been applied even during the just concluded CAF champions league. Today, all Nigerians seem to be happy about the retake. Blacks are why racism is still alive. A black man shoots and he's imprisoned we all talk about racism. If we Abide by the rules ,we should not be afraid of anything.
Goodluck to Falcons. It's a totally different case in the case of Argentina the goal keeper caught it after stepping of the line hence there was need for a retake but in Nigeria's case the goalie didn't touch the ball the French player missed so why was there need for a retake. And during the second penalty there was encroachment in the box why didn't she order another retake. So it's a total different case |

ChrisKels: He came back and did well to fill the gap created by Trippier's injury. He had a good CL run. I would have chosen Noussair Mazraoui in his stead, but, both were there for their respective clubs when Aurier's Spurs ousted Ajax. I think I'll still go with Mazraoui. My opinion tho |

ChrisKels: My AFCON strongest eleven. In the absence of Djene, Colley and Bailly, I had to pick Benatia to partner Kalidou in the CB, due to o his experience and pedigree. My front three did creditably well this past season hence, Zaha and Mahrez couldn't make the cut, though, I had to play Mane centrally. In the midfield, Partey and Ndidi were top notch, then, the icing in the cake comes in the form of Ziyech.

TheGoodJoe: You are switching points. The Uruguayan team in 2010 was an offensive side. No way you can tag that team that had Suarez, Cavani and Forlan in attack as a negative side. Oscar Tabarez sets up his sides to be solid at the back and depends mostly on the pace and brilliance of his attackers. That's the way he sets up his team |

Did u say Nigeria Will teach Ghana a lesson?
I know you are joking But u really should be ashamed by finishing behind Egypt in a world cup qualifying group. if it was AFCON I wouldn't be bothered but chalie na world cup and we know Egypt poor world cup record so justifying finishing behind Egypt in a World cup qualifier is also ridiculous |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Olulong(m): 9:08pm On Jun 14, 2019 |
TheGoodJoe: I think you need to understand the point. In an offensive system, a forward with mobility and accurate finishing will register brilliant stats. That is a high quality performance. Take the player from that set up and put him in a defensive one, the quality of his performance will diminish. That is what you guys call losing form, meanwhile it is the system that caused the drop in quality.
Take Suarez performance under Brendan Rodgers and Enrique, you will see insane goal and assists stats. Put him in an ultra defensive set up and you will see his performance will not be up to scratch. It is simple logic. Nothing hard.
More chances created gives more goals. Less chances created gives less goals.
Nacho is built to thrive on chances created. Shakespeare, Puel and Rohr (currently) did not create such atmosphere.
You can not say flop when he was not given a regular run of games.
Finito. Sorry but I'll disagree CR7 scored an hat trick against Hungary(Euro 2016), against Switzerland (in the recent nations league) and against Spain (at the world cup) under the same conservative style. Cavani and Suarez have continued to perform consistently under the same Conservative style. As a matter of fact Forlan was named the best player at the 2010 World cup playing under the same conservative style. U claimed Rohr became a coward after the SA match but guess what we recorded bigger winning margins since then and in some of those games Iheanacho scored (against Cameroon and Argentina) up until he regressed and became poor so it still doesn't change the fact that Nacho has been poor!!! |

Same ayews , Ekuban, Partey, kwadwo, Gyan Atsu and the like will show u pepper I only mentioned d win against Cameroon because you were trying to downplay D fact Nigeria qualified from the toughest world cup qualifying group but your world class black stars couldn't qualify from a group having DR Congo and Uganda And I will gladly want to see my Super Eagles teach u guys a lesson |

tbabs10166: those assertions are wrong bro. You're rating these teams based on performances in previous tournament. I cant imagine rating the present ghana and cote'd voire ahead of nigeria, the same team that couldn't qualify for the world cup last year. Ivory coast used to be regarded as favourites when they had the best set of african players like yaya toure, drogba, gervinho, wilfried bony e.t.c. same goes with ghana because of their great team work. The present ghana and ivorian team are no where near the favourite. Senegal have proven to be favourites judging by their recent performance at the worldcup and during the qualifier, I'll rate them ahead of cameroun. Egypt will be favourite to win this tournament i guess no one will dispute that. Senegal is second on my list, followed by nigeria and then Cameroon Seems like he's a Ghanaian so what do you expect from him |

TheGoodJoe: What Iheanacho suffered at City under Guardiola was lack of regular playing time. Not delivery. He scored sufficiently and had assists in the few games Guardiola gave him.
Rohr was braver earlier. That was when Kelechi was banging in goals. The conservative play came after the South African loss, that was after he took risks by fielding Awaziem in defence. After that, the fear came in and it has not been the same after that.
What you wrote up there does not contradict my point. All this conservative system u are using as an excuse for Nacho doesn't add up for me. Suarez has been playing in an Ultra defensive Set up in Uruguay for a long time how has it affected his performance in his clubs. Same with C Ronaldo whose Portugal team under Santos is based on Solidity. How has it affected thier performance. Just admit Iheanacho has flopped dis past season |

Apart from mane which Senegalese forwards are better than their forwards ?
I will give the defence to the Senegalese and goal keeping area ,it seems this Ivory Coast team have crappy goal keepers like the super eagles Keita Balde,Mbaye Diagne Thier midfield and defence doesn't even come close to Senegal abeg. Remove Kessie and Aurier and who's mind blowing there |

fabyom: Average midfield and attack. Nothing spectacular here! Ivory coast is the real deal in terms of squad. But in terms of big game temperament on the African continent; Nigeria, Cameroon and Egypt even Ghana. Senegal and Morrocco, even if all their players are playing in Liverpool that cannot win this year's Nations Cup. Ivory Coast full squad : Goalkeepers : Sylvain Gbohouo (TP Mazembe), Ali Badra (Free State Stars), Tape Ira (FC San Pedro) Defenders: Serge Aurier (Tottenham), Wilfried Kanon (ADO The Hague), Wonlo Coulibaly (ASEC Mimosas), Ismaël Traoré (Angers), Mamadou Bagayoko (Red Star), Cheikh Comara (Wydad Casablanca), Souleyman Bamba (Rennes) Midfielders : Jean-Philippe Gbamin (Mainz), Geoffrey Serey Dié (Neuchâtel Xamax), Jean-Michaël Seri (Fulham), Victorian Angban (Metz), Franck Kessié (Milan) , Ibrahim Sangaré (Toulouse) Strikers: Max-Alain Gradel (Toulouse), Nicolas Pépé (Lille), Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace), Jonathan Kodjia (Aston Villa), Roger Assalé (Young Boys Bern), Maxwel Cornet (Lyon), Wilfried Bony (Without a club). How is dis team better than Senegal's own. I don't even think it's better than Nigeria's own sef |

forgiveness: Do you mean Omeruo kicked the defender? Definitely not. But he put Tyronne in dat position and for him being an experienced defender I feel he should get the blame. Both Tyronne and Aina are definitely good players but Aina have been caught off position on some occasions like the 2nd goal against Argentina in dat friendly same as the penalty he conceded against Congo. I think he needs to improve on his defensive abilities. Tho he's still young and I think he would improve. Regardless I'll pick him 10times ahead of shehu |
