Parapet for this house took about N800,000 or more, scaffolding took close to N150,000.
₦800,000 including all materials and labour?

the issue isn't investing in such tools.

Issue is are you willing to pay for such services. If I give you a bill which includes the hiring of tools like that lifter, can you pay without telling me someone else is giving you a cheaper bill.

Until you can answer these questions honestly, don't come and be lecturing us on how to do better when you can't pay better
First off, my professional background, perchance for safety and its productivity output will make me encourage and pay for such equipment and I have hired them several times in the past.
In case you missed my drift I was not accusing Spyder for not providing such equipment and if he intends to get one, I don't think they are easily available or accessable. That's where technology investment comes in! How many of such equipment are available in our technical schools or higher professional institutions? How many of such equipment are available in our ministries of works nationwide? What effort or incentives has the government made to encourage private investors to invest in varieties of works equipment? What effort have the government made to buy technology? Etc.
We are in the age where technology goes to the highest bidder and I have been around the world, serious country do their part and encourage and support the private sector to bring the latest technology home. E.g Germany discovered the first Covid-19 vaccine but America spent the money for thorough research and to get the first supply to better their people (Yeah, I know what you are thinking, please save me that inferiority complex and religious buhaha!). If Nigeria is a serious country the government will pump huge fund into Innoson and other tech start-ups to drive their technology research and advancement, that's what I have seen worldwide.

That's a very innovative solution, but with the building this tight and so close to the fence, how can the motorised ladder move around the house? The setback at the back of that house is less than a meter. On the back line, there is an existing building very close to the new house.

Second point, cost. We used a total of N29,000 to hire these ladders for all the 7 days they painted at heights, how much do you think hiring the motorised ladder will cost to rent?

Who go pay? grin
Space wouldn't be a problem, there are different and innovative height equipment that can navigate difficult angles and length. They are very common standard and renting these equipment are not really costly compare to time save and productivity.

After painting the balustrades, let's move to the parapet........
I am just visualising how labourious and exhausting it would be for that guy to get up and off the ladder and the risk of falling when easier alternatives abundantly exist. That what you get when we as a country don't invest in safety and new ways of doing work.

I just got my Visa to go to Germany. I am having cold feet making this journey. I have already told my boss I am leaving my current position.

I am yet to tell HR because of this cold feet. I have been in Qatar for 2years now and I think its best I move since I cannot marry and bring wify here.

The German company is paying for my flight and accommodation for 2 weeks but I am still having cold feet. The process is cumbersome.. I just realised I need health insurance to make this move. Where can i get such in Nigeria.
There's nothing to have cold feet about, Germans are very nice people and one of the best place to get real professional experience, they will assist you to achieve your goals, majority understand and speak some good level of English language, so you may not have great barrier before you get to speak the local language. Make the move!

N3xt, how are you going to channel water out of that walkways with grasses and concrete walk ways? This is exactly what I have and want but I was told that it would be difficult for water, especially after heavy rains to flow out from that side walk ways and back yard with grasses, especially in areas pruned to flooding and high water table like lekki.

It is only when you have concrete floors, interlocking or stamped concrete that rain water could be able to flow out well from the compound and channelled to the outside gutter.

I hate the sight of stagnant waters after heavy downpours in a compound and I wouldn't want waters settling on grass lawns after heavy downpours.
A well laid underground drainage with rooster can serve that purpose perfectly.

We just like titles of which some are borne out of selfish interest or from the ignorance of those who work under them.
When I hear doctor, I try to know if it's MD or a PhD.

A project manager who does not have eyes for details is not fit to be called by the name.
Title(s) without substance is useless, I only recognise substance!

While there are standards, it's not entirely cast in stone. Instead of the normal 2.1m doors, we made these 2.5m x 0.9m doors on a project last year.

Still made some doors like that on an ongoing build.
Dude! Carrying out welding work on combustible items (wood & paper) is not safe and a receipt for fire outbreak.

I like the client decision.
Bcs it’s not wise to waste money on something that doesn’t add value to things this days.
As I said earlier the people in this location doesn’t value modern kitchen cabinet.( HDF board).
What they like here is big space with moderate finishings.

We did same for the client formal house some years back and the block cabinet still remains intact till today.
I have be cracking my head between concrete and wooden cabinets, seeing this finishing have made up my mind for concrete, Nigerian tenants feels paying rent give them right to vandalize others property.

What do you think?

What do you think about using stamped concrete floor indoors? It is definitely cheaper than using tiles.
Interior requires smooth finishing for comfort and elegance.

Exterior requires robust finishing to withstand and manage environmental conditions.

But it's still your choice if you want to over exaggerate!

An average Nigerian in US don’t save 5m yearly.
All these people on the comment section don’t know how US or Europe works, you may die while working, you will age faster than your younger brother in Nigeria, you will likely fall sick by tomuch work overload.
At the end of every year you will realise that you did not save up to 4m.
Here you can’t escape tax, you ca never escape it. You will work for the government till you die, be wise.

if you aren't using coloured Gerrard to show the beauty despite the high cost, you are doing yourself. My roofer told me to use the common black, I declined. Now everyone admires my roofing smiley
Using colour is not the issue, the environmental impact after a period of time matters. E.g Nigeria is a dusty country and environmental polution from combustion carbon from vehicles, firewood, etc will get the colour dirty over time, colours deformation will occur and will be visible but black will camouflage those deformations.

your explanation works better cause even if you place the rollers inside the frame, you still need to open a narrow gutter where the roller will fit into.

Your idea works @N3xt but I don't like the idea of tampering with the framing cause once the interior of the pipe(frame) is exposed to atmospheric materials like oxygen and moisture, next thing will be rusting.
It depends on the type of stability application, with or without roller has their pros and cons. A roller on rail is another idea.

I'm interested in learning how they worked on the rollers that made it so hidden. Do you have any ideas you want to share.

I just looked at the floors and there's no provision for the rollers. Every place look just flat
It's very simple, the gate itself had no roller, the mechanism is equipped with long toothed rack and roller/toothed gear hidden behind the wall, the gate materials are light weight and behind has a counterweight for stability.

Precast is good but I’d take precautions.

The pics below shows two installation of precast parapets.

Pic 1 - Stone Tiles installed beneath the precast element
Pic 2 - Precast installed without any support. Signs of visible cracks were seen after 5 years.
Like any engineering procedures an inadequate support and joint will spell doom soon or later.

Please whats your take on having precast parapet and direct casting. I wanted to go for precast but my Engineer is saying it will fall off down the years .Anyone with good contact , should me know as i like the simplicity of this design. Pls advise me
My engineer also advice me against precast, it's cheaper and lighter than semi cast or permanent cast, like spyder880 once said precast has pros & cons and a good specialist should be consulted for that job.

For longevity, elegant look and less maintenance pitched or high roof will carry the day.
Though with better modern materials flat roofs are gaining more interest in building design.

If the mesh is fibre and soft for glazing, it can be glazed to the net panel. The net panel is what we glaze the fibre net to. The net is glazed to it's panel with what we call net rubber.
I'm use to the panel type that can be remove and mounted easily by hook or screw. The mesh is flexible and held down with round rubber in a grove.
