Xtopher123: That's not a thing about their standard but a choice of construction materials and methodology.
They build more of modular and movable structures unlike we down here that build "permanent" structures.
That's not to say they don't factor in Hurricane and flood into their design also not to say they don't have sub-standard structures. If materials and methodology can't withstand consistent natural threats then is safe enough to say the standard is not good enough. I think the cost and affordability is an issue to consider for their trend. |

Xtopher123: I laugh when I hear people say USA Level. That's not a standard.
If you tell me he's building to certain International Building Specifications, then you quote the specification, the codes and the SOP (Standard Operations Procedures including safety et all) used to achieve that.
You cannot just quote "USA Level" that's vague. The USA building structure standard is too low in my opinion, reason there is nothing left after fire, hurricane/storm, flood, etc. |

rotecch77: You are very correct It's crass stupidity to go against minimum conventional methods and safety practices, there are minimum & maximum specifications to achieve results, it's the duty of building specialist to propose that and not just imaginary or baba Kunle's unfounded theories and practices. Durability is the first hallmark of a building. |

Steel+granite & cement makes the building man!. |

n3xt: Good job! I love the cable arrangement.
I’m a networking guru and did structured cabling of some of the best hotels and malls in Lagos. So I can tell a good job when I see one.
_________ The cable arrangement is good I saved it twice for my “Lasisi and Rosco” electrical contractors. I’ve never been able to find a good replacement for my late electrical installer. But a typical Nigerian electrician will say "oga good cable arrangements no matter ooo". Quality delivery is a habit! |

michlins: If we keep this mindset, there will be no redistribution of wealth. If you can afford those expensive stuff, buy it and use. But don't do it to impress anyone. When the rich people decides to be stingy, how can the poor get some of the welath There is always a cheaper version of expensive and redistribution of wealth. My understanding of the market is you pay the excess for the premium names and not it quality. Here we have laboratories/test centres that test cheaper products against expensive premium and the results are always alarming. Surprise! The cheaper products always performed better and gets higher marks than the expensive ones. They do this to avoid producers/brands from misleading the consumers/public that their products is the best. Why should I buy a Versace jacket when an Oakwood can do the job to keep me warm?

valencia2012: It would been more interesting if the Nigerian mentality is about motivation, inspiration and dynamism, rather than challenge, complex and conventional. You are an easy prey when you feel insecure and lack self confidence. Whether its about buildings or clothings, it is apparent that we should be aware of our time, pocket and taste. The Nigerian factor is just a claw of this monstrosity. Exactly! The Nigerian mentality abhor positive or friendly competitions, motivation, inspiration and always self-centred. When I left Nigeria I was amazed how I was received and provided with every possible materials to succeed by complete strangers. I still remember how my classmates and I used to dream and talked about technologies and means available abroad, today I am in a position to experience and work with what we have always dreamt about, if I die with those knowledge it's a complete waste hence I do my best to share and provide them the possibilities to experience the dream too, the means are open on the streets here why keep them to myself. |

Dijita: Sometimes ones taste or style preference has nothing to do with trying to impress people. Some people build duplex and put long span. Some people build bungalow( including myself) and then install Gerald because we like it. 90% of the time I wear wrist watch it is under my sleeve no one sees it. the wrist watch is not to impress anyone or to keep time. I wear it because my dressing process give me some level of satisfaction. I Like to open my shoe rack to select the right shoe, select the appropriate curve links and the right wrist watch. I am not a fashionista. it is only my wife and children that knows what is in my ward robe. My dressing is not to impress people but the process give me satisfaction. The same thing people can buy Gerald or Lexus not necessarily to impress anybody but to derive self satisfaction. Yes and no. The typical Nigerian mentality (majority) and irrelevant social pressure, they feel you must prove to them you worth a certain level of success by what you do or where you are in life and the oppressive character that we belong to another category. In reality taste and style should be borne out of personal preference, and not what others do or what others thinks about us. I have a semi-selfdriving car in my driveway here but I jump on okada or hire a car in Nigeria because I don't need one for a month/weeks I will be there for holiday. I wear solar operated or automatic wristwatches because I hate consistent battery changing, etc. |

diordaves: Speaking for myself, that is a good narrative. Think what you like of me but never think that I bought back the Bank of England. To think I have the Bank of England in my hip pocket is a security risk in my opinion.
So I'm, a deportee? That fine. This fits into my low profile narrative which is part of my personal overall security set up.
I will never do anything to prove that narrative wrong. Showing up with anything fancy is a security risk, I still prefer to jump on okada and mingle in short & t-shirt, being anonymous is the best security man. If you don't exhibit that typical Nigerians oppressive shenanigans they begin to doubt your worth or success. |

n3xt: I received sense when my dad told me “You cannot impress anybody.”
I’m rocking my longspan aluminium jejely. I’ve used my Gerald money to buy two and half acres of cheap land that I will sell to yankee returnees who can buy and install Gerald roofing.
I’m not in competition.
_______ The bolded was my statement when I heard comments, they will always find something to say and you can't impress them, I intentionally invested in my family and sibling who had the opportunity to study instead of buying cars and building houses to impress anyone, well that investment produced a successful surgeon and created bright futures. I have seen, experience and been in places they could dream off, when you are in the circle of more successful people who don't judge you with what have you get to understand the meaning of life and riches. I prefer common sense to guide what I do than doing what other people do. If Australians can rock longspan aluminium why can't I in Nigeria. |

Rexology: The lintel of that building is chained to all the column at every corner. It's clear the build has columns, but from the picture earlier you can see the point where the crack occurred has no support, in my lame man opinion the crack is due to the combination of mass and gravity vs resistance force (column)......I think your architect or builder has some questions to answer there. |

Amastermovic: The wall section is not sufficient to take the self weight of the beam itself now u have ur roof load wall load and self weight of ur beam on the angle not more than 225mm max..
if the lintel had come out a little beam u could have lap it well there's always a satisfactory lap for this kind of thing it can kills when there's wind
solution from my own view since the load is small u can introduce a dummy column to receive the stress .. I don't know how sound ur strip foundation is I don't want to gve d general solution thanks Reason why one should always include columns for safety, whether bungalow, Kobo kobo project or not. |

Phylife: Yea but well galvanised burglary could add aesthetics to it, don't you think?
I just love the simplicity and beauty. But can it be adapted going by our topography and climate? I find large glass windows and doors more beautiful without burglary, the plain see through gives it a unique style. Adaptation in Nigeria wouldn't be a problem, they always a have different features than other regular design, with some green around will make it better. |
