In the other news, Lafarge now have supafix- a ready-to-use tile adhesive. It’s only here we use cement to fix tileslipsrsealed
I have wondered about that for a while, there are special cements or adhesive for tiles, for kitchen, bathroom and non moisture environment.

Well in the estate where I'm building, you buy the land and build your taste, the only uniformity is the roof colour. Though not in Lagos
That seems fair and compromising, I intend to learn about personal and collective contributions in estate housing complex and procurement procedures.

I personally dont like Estates because l take pride in building my house, the way l want it to look like and l dont buy into the idea that one cannot implement safety, to one's taste. I just dont like one Omo-Onile exercising control over what l do, because they own the Estate.
- Buy on highland
- Buy where there are people living already (it would cost more but will save you much more, going forward), building is less stressful in such environment (Roads, Electricity Power/Poles, Transformer, communal Safety, etc are usually setup and can be built upon).

Cheers
I have been weighing these options for future plans....I am considering Lagos or Abuja but I need to physically get the true fact and understand how things works there.

Though the job still turned out good but l think it could have been better if they adapt to such things.
Typical artisans rush rush mentality! grin

Many people still use tile spacers in their projects, its a slower method but gives good results. The problem is usually about remuneration, what the tilers will take for the work if it needs to be a thorough work is usually different from what it will take to do the usual Nigerian system. Some clients need the work to be thorough while some, especially those building for rent are looking to just cover the floor with tiles, minimising extra expenses that might reduce the return on investment.

This is where clarity is needed, the home owner should be given options and these methods explained to them before giving out the work. The bottom line is that it costs higher to do a meticulous job in every finish work in a house.
That explained it all, if there were general work standard its usage would have been rampant.
PropertiesRe: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by omanzo02: 8:45am On Nov 19, 2020
Question.

I noticed most Tilers don't use spacers hence the qualities of the job looks rough and uneven, are they not available or just ignorance or impatience to use them?

Good news about cement is that Lafarge has started production again and we will be having surplus in no time..
Nigeria is difficult to predict man! Price increases rarely decrease, I am very sure the price will never reduce to ₦2550 we got it early October.

Avoid stacking all the blocks on only a section.
Definitely, the loads must be evenly distributed over the areas of the slabs to avoid overloading a section.

When the going gets tough, the tough gets going indeed.
Nigeria is a failed State, sadly her economic adversities are a product of high-level dynamic enterprise that cannot be manipulated by prophet or pseudo- technocrats.
Only war economies run by failed state that operate a “war economy” become a huge segment of the 160 million people has been disempowered.
There is also a legal vacuum and this has forced many Nigerians to adopt coping strategies of survival of the fittest.
It is illicit businesses that thrive because law and order are not enforceable in our land (apologies to the apostles of the rule of law).
Nigeria's direction is worst than a failed state, Regionalism is the only way left to salvage what's left of that country, lack of economical, developmental, diverse governing strategies and social competition is wrecking havoc. The more dormant Abuja becomes the better for the country.

Sounds fantastic on paper...until reality hits hard...was born in trucking business...something i grew up before I packed my bags for greener pastures elsewhere...still ongoing in family although now company haulage only..
Until they need engine rebuild....get into accident/s...hit someone....rainy season which are normally off peak periods... falls off ditch.....there are quite alot unfortunate circumstances which comes with all business...biggest hurdles are Government policies can change any day without any consultation.....
Classic! Business is taking risk anyway. With those bad roads, lack of better insurance cover and working condition, transportation/haulage business are triple risk.

As long as your bamboo supports are still under the slab, there is little risk.
What are the likely risk on the structure if the bamboo are already removed and the slab have long cured?

Taking blocks up on the deck, in readiness for block setting for the first floor.
Spyder,
Is it safe to keep or stock the blocks on the deck for about 4 weeks or more before setting without any load imbalance effect on the structure?

Smooth Finish: It is possible to have smooth finish where cost in surface finishing is involved. Thus saving you the cost of plastering the slab.
With a quality smooth finish it can also be used for colour combinations in buildings, allows final finishing to eliminate painting in extreme weather and conditions(especially for factory buildings).
In that case the viscosity of the mixture is very low(watery).

Bricklayer - ---------8500 x 60 =510k (N60 per block)
8500 X 50 = 425K (per block N50)
Negotiating per block or total sum seem a better and safe idea than daily payment, on a low productive day or delays cost/losses is not on the owner/employer, I had the experience when I paid daily, don't think I will ever go that way again.

Correct. Labour rate is considerably different from South West and cheap tho.
I think labour is more expensive in South South than south west (except Lagos maybe). Bricklayer ₦5000, mixer/helpers ₦3000 cheapest rate.

Your number 2 absolute rubbish. So you are telling me that all this while White House wasn't fenced? Then because of election it's now fenced.
White House perimeter has been fenced off with a second unscalable fence due to the election fallout protest. Determined protesters will storm White house unlike Nigerians that are scared.

What we usually do in fencing corners where land beacons with identification numbers are placed is to copy out the land beacon numbers, cast our pillars on top of the existing beacon by digging deeper, placing the beacon and positioning the iron rods around the beacon. Cover the top of the beacon with a type of nylon sheet to enable you prove that the beacon has remained in its position, whenever there is an argument.

Cast the pillar over the beacon, when the pillar is dry, plaster the fence and get a good artist to come and rewrite the beacon numbers on the position of the new pillar. The numbers will now be showing sideways on the new pillar position.

Thanks.
Thanks for the detail explanation.

Thank you, I don't know why some people only come here to advocate artificial price hike every time. Is it for market manipulation for people in diaspora as many of them don't have other alternative. I just don't get it. Please shine your EYE'S.
I bought ₦2650 in October, now I hear it's ₦2850 because of truck issues, I will wait November out to see how things goes.

Spyder, I remembered this your fence work some years back, did you cast a pillar on the plot boundary markers? How did you make/retain the marker code/numbers visible?

Beside, the vegetation around the houses of where this project is gave me memories of Enugu when I did a month industrial attachment with Anammco. It was truly beautiful then.

Bury it directly under you Fence, at the point it is Marking and then put the letterings on it, on the wall of the Fence, so the letters can be seen.
Never discard them.
Thanks for the idea!

My only advice to him is, to remain impeccably honest in all his dealings, the rest is easy. An honest man can make mistakes and be forgiven, but if your client or customers thinks you are out to scan them, it doesn't always end well.

If he remains hardworking and honest, there's just too much business out there. Thank you my bosses.
A honest person mistakes are mostly delays in delivery which is understandable and they usually get in touch with the client for updates.
Good for him he was able to get to you that is based in the east to test his ware.
