Johessu on the other hand is an irrational organisation made up of other health workers, infact, basically everyone who works in a hospital. From accounts department to cleaners and the aggrieved non-doctor health workers, whose sole aim is to frustrate the health sector.
In a hospital, there is the Director of Admin, as powerful as the CMD. An office open to every one and in most hospitals, if not all, has never been smelt by a doctor.

How can someone who is not a doctor be fighting for chief medical director. So the accounts department in a police station should start fighting for Inspector general, cos they work with the police?
How can nurses start talking about consultancy? They have matrons, CNO's and all what not. Consultancy is a position, not bestowed upon anyone. Even medical officers who have worked for decades are not just made consultants. U go thru a residency program, write exams and become one under a recognised medical post graduate college.

And by becoming a consultant, u have the sole responsibility of the patient. Every other person, from the resident doctor to the nurse and orderlies are mere aides.
I don't know how to start explaining this because no one would understand. Its like 2moro, assuming when Nigeria was under military rule, civil defence would come out and demand to become president. But when the war starts, u send the soldiers. That u match infront of ur civil defence office DOES NOT make u a military combatant.
And if the same benefits given to these soldiers are given to the boy scouts, every one would become a boy scout.
Medical doctors were not selected. Its open to everyone. If u want to be a consultant or a CMD then u go and study medicine and pass through rigorous postgraduate training and pass your exams. U dont wake up one morning and decide to convert ur profession to what it is not.

U say Nigerians are subjecting their patients to quacks. Who are those quacks? Perhaps a an allied health staff masquerading as a medical doctor. Are they not the same people who believe by working inside a hospital and wearing white coats, they've become doctors? Thats exactly what Johessu is doing.

The federal govt acted like they did during the fuel subsidy, kidnap, bombings and all their plain acts of ignorance. And the medical profession has just had enough of the stupidity.
The Chief medical director office is the BIRTHRIGHT of medical doctors as much as being president of Nigeria is the birthright of a nigerian citizen. U cant come from ghana, live here for 30yrs and demand to be president. A Burser does not become the VC in a uni, a Man o War does not become the COAS, a medical doctor does not director at a pharmaceutical production companies.

There is a medical salary structure worked out based on relativity. No doctor has ever fought the govt based on how much they chose to pay other health workers. But relativity keeps it sane.

Without the cleaners in a hospital, it wont function. So therefore, they should strike till they are paid same or higher than the graduate workers? because they are equally important? The Accountants shd strike till they become medical directors?
Keep salary structure relative, keep qualified people in their due offices and provide an enabling working environment. I dont think thats an irrational thing to fight for.
And saying NMA is envious is only laughable. Envious of who if I may ask? Of the nurse? Are u seriously for real?
Johessu members can blog all they want and seek cheap sympathy for as long as they want. The fact still remains that the truth is the truth.
I can't chose to become a doctor and 2moro start complaining about Mikel Obi's salary. If I wanted, I could have become a footballer.
I urge Nigerians to understand that these strike, as much as it affects them, is not directed towards them.
ASUU strikes over salary, college's off education and polytechnics are on strike over money. No one has called them evil. We strike over common sense and people start ranting.
There are laws. In Nigeria, u cannot become president without at least an SSCE. If u chose not to go to secondary school, then thats ur problem. U chose ur profession, or u failed to meet the standards of the one u chose and hence went to another. Which ever way it happened, thru ur own fault or circumstances surrounding u, u dont try to turn an existing system upside down to suit ur selfish needs from wat u imagined a particular profession gains financially , at the expense of quality, efficiency and common sense.

Let every one understand their proper places for peace to reign.

The doctor's position as the head of any health institution cannot be compromised. A hospital cannot be headed by, say a pharmacist or any other person from another field. Even though the doctors' demands and reasons for going on strike are not tangible enuogh, I guess they are doing it to curtail the over- ambitious attitude of other health workers in the system. There is nowhere in the world where support staff can have equal rights with core staff. In the health sector, especially hospitals, staff other than the doctors are support staff. Let JOHESU or whatever they call themselves take it or not.

I think the problem is that they have refused to accept their roles as such, which makes them believe they are equal to doctors.

And then they go on to feed the public lies and make it seem as though the anarchy originated from doctors, whereas they are the ones that woke up one day and started striving to have same priveleges with doctors. It is a big shame, but it will not last forever.

Very soon it will become clear to them how their 'politician members' have deceived them.

Functionality is more important than titles. Healthcare is becoming more multi-disciplinary. Nigerian physicians can't stop a global trend.

The context is a primary health care setting, ie health centers. In some remote villages, even well trained Chews may provide some primary health care such as health talk, immunisation and sometimes simple treatments like antimalarial. A traditional birth attendant may conduct simple deliveries as good as midwives, it doesnt make them superior.

So the refernce in the article should be understood within its context.

It does not mean nurses provide better medical care than doctors, or that they are better trained so.

In terms of medical school, yes, other health professionals take BASIC courses in anatomy, biochemistry and physiology but not as deep as a doctor (in Lagos, most hospitals employ auxiliary nurses, can we then call these auxiliary nurses real nurses and earn same as a registered nurse because they can give injections and dress wounds)?
I work in Lagos and most private hospitals are owned by doctors, those that are not owned by doctors must employ a doctor before they are given a licence to function, the disparity is even wider in private setting where doctors earn 100 naira, registered nurses earn 50 naira while the auxiliary nurses earn about 15 naira (they do most of the work).
Let's tell ourselves the truth, none of us will visit any centre if there is no doctor there. Yes, doctors make mistakes, but I can tell you that the mistake is everywhere.... Imagine a pharmacist who prescribed ciprofloxacin and fansidar to a pregnant woman before quickening which resulted in a miscarriage. Knowledge and experience is key. I will never go and start mixing different chemicals to produce a drug, that is not my field or area of specialization.

We should work together in the health sector. Take a clue from the public health team (anybody can become a public health expert), let's respect boundaries, doctors must respect other health workers, they must respect us as well.
Within the four walls of a hospital, the doctor is head, however the health sector is big enough for everybody, the pharmacist is the head in a pharmaceutical company, the engineer is the head of a biomedical tech, the nurses are care givers, sweet and always trained to assist the doctor so as to give patients the best of care.

The Health Sector is made of different professionals with each having their distinctive roles. It is fair for Dokitas to give sanity a chance.

Your analogy is invalid within the context you have presented it.

The lecturers are to the universities what doctors are to the hospitals (and it is the ''hospital'' not ''health sector''). The guy you quoted rightly suggested that a librabrian (who is unarguably very important to the university system nonetheless) would not start bragging he should become the VC of the school, since he is a graduate too (but not a lecturer in the school).

The different fields of academia amongst ASUU reflects the various Specialties within Medicine (and not various professions within the hospitals), meaning that a professor of English for instance is no less an academic than a professor of Mathematics. Much like a Gynaecologist is no less a consultant doctor than, say, a Paediatrician.

It does not mean that a radiographer is at same level as a radiologist or that the chief midwife is same as an obstetrician. It does not mean a librarian is same as a physics lecturer.

They do not have same privileges as a result.

Ok. Blood sugar of 7 for a random check is not enough to diagnose diabetes, but it also shows your body has a little problem in handling sugar.

Apart from the general advice given before, you should have your Fasting blood sugar checked at least twice a year in other to know when it begins to worsen.

However, normally, good diet and exercise should keep it in check.

If by your blood sugar being high you mean you were diagnosed diabtic, then best advice is to see your doctor and keep up with check ups.

Generally though, exercise, weight reduction and healthy dieting will help your body utilise its sugars better.

Drinking bitter leaf water and alomo bitters, etc has not been shown to improve glycaemic control, and can potentially damage your kidneys.
