Thanks for the post. I was just wondering at this. Our initial agreement was to host on a windows platform but after reading your post, I called him and he said he better preferred the Linux now.

For those who know nothing on LAMP, I was able to research and find out something on LAMP. In case someone tells you anything on LAMP web technology, here is a clue of what I found out about it.

The acronym LAMP refers to a solution stack of software, usually free and open source software, used to run dynamic Web sites or servers. The original expansion is as follows:

* Linux, referring to the operating system;
* Apache, the Web server;
* MySQL, the database management system (or database server);
* Perl, PHP or Python, the programming languages.

The combination of these technologies is used primarily to define a web server infrastructure, define a programming paradigm of developing software, and establish a software distribution package.

Though the originators of these open source programs did not design them all to work specifically with each other, the combination has become popular because of its low acquisition cost and because of the ubiquity of its components (which come bundled with most current Linux distributions). When used in combination they represent a solution stack of technologies that support application servers.

If anyone still has something on LAMP, I will still appreciate it so much.

I got a project to develop a quiz competition website. I planned doing it on PHP and MySQL but using Flash as the main web layout but just this morning exactly at 8:00 AM, my Client called me on phone and asked me to make use of LAMP technology. I was surprised to hear about this but asked him to give me some time to see what I could do with regards to that because it was not familiar to me. He suggested I looked into it and did my best.

Has anyone an idea on this LAMP technology thing. I'm googling it already but I need to hear from the masters in here.

The simplest thing you should do here is to establish a better communication between you and the hosting company. When you both understand each other well then this whole thing will be a forgotten issue. Just try to make him understand you well; that is the point and he in turn will state his points clear to you. Next will be the solution, and you are back to your business as usual.

You paid for the personal plan right? It comes with a domain name attached to it. You didn't pay seperately for domain name then a hosting account. Is what I said correct? This is what I could understand from what I saw at the Principal's website.

There is something here. From the onset, what did you pay for? Was it hosting alone? I understand that hosting comes with free domain name as usual. Was this what you were running on before you finally wanted to renew only your domain name?

This will make things clearer here. If you paid for a hosting account and got a free domain name and finally want to switch to only domain name renewal then you should inform him (abimco) so that he will understand your need.

I think uspry1 has a better solution. I have tried this and it really worked. All you need it to keep the .fla file with you and give away the .swf file. Even if your client uses flash catcher to capture the movie, all he/she gets is the .swf file and not the raw .fla movie. You are on the safer side with this.

The next thing here is, how good are you in using adobe flash?

uspry1 is right. I see the same thing here. You are blocked because of some illegal activities from your domain.

I have been using abimco web hosting services for the past three years and have not come by this kind of situation. I don't know abimco to be the kind of person you are portraying him to be. When the entire server went down sometime last year, I called him on several occassions and he was able to give me concrete information on what was wrong. Even after the down-times, he personally called me to inform me that the server was up again. He also gave me good responses whenever I had anything to rectify with him anytime.

Talk things out well with him and I know he can be able to do something to help you, if possible.

It is not fair enough. No hosting company should do such from my own point of view. You can either choose to host or simply register your domain name. If you didn't enjoy their service then why not go for another? That is the simple thing to do. You have the receipt to the payment you made to them right? If yes, then follow the due process to get things done legally as to get your refund. I hope you understand what I mean. If you don't know how or don't feel like it, check the forum for a list of web hosting companies and get busy doing your thing again.

For me, I prefer Macromedia Dreamweaver but I must tell you, Notepad is still the boom.

This kind of story is becoming rampant. We have to find a way to check at this kind of ugly incidence. The funniest part is that they come live on TV to talk about their misconceptions then end up leaving people less than they met them.

Something should be done to check this. Solution is all we need here.

Well, I believe the best thing is, if you can prove yourself just as niyyie said, then you have not much to worry about. When they see you as a solution to other people's problem, then they will realize your worth. Age is just a number. It does not determine what you have upstairs.

Everything starts from the ground level to the top. Forget the arguement about the grave; not so reasonable at all. If you want to actually learn web designing and not manoevering things around it then you should learn everything about it. This will also enable you stand and defend it wherever an arguement arises concerning it.

The ultimate beginning should be for you to learn basic HTML from scratch and be able to design simply websites using notepad as your editor. As you are getting on around it, you should look into your graphics skill as well because it is of great importance for your layouts. When you must have been good at HTML, you can start learning other languages integration like Javascripts especially. By this time, you can start making use of Macromedia Studio MX. The reason for this is because this pack comes with tutorials which will help you get started using the incorporated software. Your animation should not be left out. Macromedia Flash MX has a good tutorial to get you started on this. Before you are done using the tutorials in the pack, Dreamweaver, Fireworks and Flash will not be much problem to you. You from there advance.

Take your time to learn from the scratch always because it pays you more and it is better off.

My own view of this whole thing is that most of the webmasters here are familiar with just the web design thing. Just a few are on to actual programmings. PHP and MySQL is a big mystery to be raveled by many out here even asp or aspx. Without at least these programming languages being familiar to webmasters, I think talking to them about Application designing and development will just seem a mere talk.

I once tried talking to a webmaster on this issue but the response was that those working on application development have initially worked and made lots of money enough to lead them to the new edge of application development. He was of the opinion that the newbies should make theirs as well before moving higher.

If we can correct this impression from the minds of webmasters dying in this kind of crude ideology, I think core programmings and much more would be achieved.

Seminars, bootcamps or sort would go a long way to putting this development in place.

From all the threads I have read on the forum, there are so many that really needed not only online attention but offline attention as well. We finally end up talking about them online without the offline attention which is of vital importance. Can there be a way which webmasters can have someone or something that can go out maybe from the forum to voice out suggestions to the public about our interests here?

If this so called Interswitch is failing to function well then I think people should remove their trust in them. But if I may ask, is it that there are no other companies to come up with better services like them? Etranzact is there but it seems the Interswitch blocked the access for any other company to offer ATM card access in Nigerian banks. In fact, this is true. I can confirm this because an insider from the IT department of one of our banks confirmed this that they have bought over the Excos of our banks thereby giving no access to other companies to come in. All you can do if you come in is to make use of only payment platforms which they will not even be willing to give you their API to enable integration with your new gateway. If they have started failing then people that subscribe to them should start demanding refund and compensation so that they will be moved to be better. Another solution should be for webmasters to mount pressure if possible on the banks so that they will give access to other interested companies to offer what they have.

This is what I feel anyway. No hassles!

The issue of "EMPLOYMENT" has really tossed people from "Jerusalem to Jericho" and still there is no hope or no employment. The question that comes to me all the time is "where is the problem from?" Is it that people have bad records from school or that their profiles or CVs are not good enough? This has stayed at the top of my mind for years now. Point clear, I'm not a "master" or "Mr. Know All." I'm expressing what I've thought and experienced.

I will like to get people's opinions first then I will get to unleash what I have in stock. The contribution point is "WHY ARE PEOPLE UNEMPLOYED? ARE THERE NO JOBS OR WHAT?"

All interested should make posts here and stay tuned while we share experiences. Proven Strategy is the keyword to this thread. Don't neglect this thread please as I think there is a lot to harness from here.

I don't think I found any web pages attached to the URL you specified unless they are yet to be uploaded. senmillioniara.com returned as a not registered domain name when I ran a search on it, what happened there? I still think you have not displayed your portfolio. In fact, to cut the whole story short here, what is the link to your personal website which you display to your clients to convince them you actually do what you want them to embark on?

Can anyone help me out with a flash ad rotator script. I'm stock at this point. I urgently need this to be able to upload and show my client a demo of his website. He wishes to have about 10 advert of his products and that of his partner companies displayed in flash and not in animated gif. Pls can someone help with out with this script?

1) Though the "Proudly Nigerian" has not be decided upon if that logo that appear on some websites is a standard I still think you should make some considerations there. Well, until this is decided upon, you can try if it works. The coloration matches with the website.

2) The menu at the top is the same with that below. Why not try making that on the blue table (topmenu) buttons? I think that will look good. At least have some mouse over effect of them. It would make it look nice.

3) You have inline styles displayed in a good number of places viewing your source. Can you still try encapsulating them into the .css file you called at the header section and now call them using your "class" this will make your source look cool.

4) The girls (image) don't really have anything to do to portray the kind of business you are running so consider a change there.

5) The _icon_home, mail and map might not be easily noticed. I personally didn't notice it until I went through your source. I guess it might be due to my sight defect. It was too tiny for me to notice. You can try making that bolder.

6) The fonts of the write-up below the "LATEST UPDATES" is tiny and requires to be made bolder.

Men, you have done a nice job shaa. You have a good layout. Keep it up.
