Dual Core:
there are a thousand and one bloggers in nigeria, most of them write boringly long essays about their already boring lives for people to read and they proudly say "goto my blog".
I havnt really seen any blogger using the full potential of blogging, money making.
I'm working on setting up an article directory where these bloggers can come around and pick up articles and load up their bloggs. It will enhance bloggs at least, giving better contents to visitors. The next question now is, "will they value it?" huh

Make a search in this forum and find out more on what you are asking for. Go to Google and possibly Yahoo and make a search for Nigerian blogs and see results for yourself.

How did you actually get at what I was doing? Hmmm, are you a mind reader? No wonder sometime in the past, some dude out here was really or jokingly toasting, undecided

@Yawa
Do you really know that it was your post on bettering Nigeria's website that really got me thinking into opening this new post. I wondered at who actually did that web and what influence could get him/her to do that web the way it is and let it remain if not mistaking, since 2005 (according to the copyright notice found there). No one is complaining or doing anything to rescue the situation, even the enlightened ones among them government. I really thought it out to be POLITICS else something as that web will not have a stay on the w3.

Well, I think we still hang on to see more opinions on what others still have to say on this.

WebmastersDoes Politics Matter To Web Professionals? by OmniPotens(op): 8:47pm On Nov 02, 2008
Dumb question, right? Of course politics matters, to everybody. But just how do web designers and developers feel?
Does it make any difference to your job or business who is in the Government House? How do your personal politics affect your day-to-day work?

The floor is open for your posts.
WebmastersRe: How Would You Better Your Country's Official Website? by OmniPotens(m): 8:02pm On Nov 02, 2008
If we agree it needs a redesign, how do we get at the webmaster that did the present or existing web to learn better design for the web or who do we connect with? In fact, how can webmasters get something done to rescue our country's online presence which is not fun to visit?

This is a very big issue. You should give solutions to solve the issue. That is what you are expected of.
WebmastersRe: Websites And Browser Compatibilty Issues by OmniPotens(op): 7:03pm On Nov 01, 2008
I think I understood something some minutes after opening this thread. Some 24 hours ago, I was trying to get used to some new standards of HTML 5. There I discovered some new things. Instead of making use of some deprecated tags we made use of, though depending on browsers, I made changes and some of the experienced errors got corrected.

sad
I think this is boring down to browsers and the version of HTML they validate.
WebmastersWebsites And Browser Compatibilty Issues by OmniPotens(op): 6:09pm On Nov 01, 2008
After designing your website, in about how many browsers do you test them before announcing it to the public? I was playing around, creating web pages as I liked just for fun when I stumbled upon this. Some browsers will give your pages a very nice look while some will alter so many things. Have you noticed this too?

Let me hear your opinion on this.
WebmastersRe: Website Reviews Of Nigeria Newspapers by OmniPotens(m): 5:47pm On Nov 01, 2008
Thanks for this info. I really appreciate. Have been believing it was sunnews but now I think I've known the fact. Alexa rankings can't be wrong you know wink
WebmastersRe: How Would You Better Your Country's Official Website? by OmniPotens(m): 5:36pm On Nov 01, 2008
IMHO, I think all should go for that web is a total redesign. Better layout, ideology of what be on the web (the webmaster should lookout for other country's website to learn if he/she doesn't know what should) and a host of other things.

What is the need of a forum?
I wonder how many people ask themselves this question. If actually you don't want to learn anything new and want to remain just with what you know, I don't see the need why you should register at all, not to talk about reading posts. The forum is there for exchange of ideas, knowledge et al. WHOEVER DOESN'T WANT TO LEARN SHOULD STAY OUT OF POSTS AND JUST KEEP READING WITHOUT ASKING ANY QUESTIONS lipsrsealed

NO HARD FEELINGS ANYWAY! wink
WebmastersRe: How Would You Better Your Country's Official Website? by OmniPotens(m): 3:34pm On Nov 01, 2008
@kehers
It is not a matter of knowing who is designing a new site for the country or any of your questions, she is only asking for reactions of how we think with our web mastering skills, we can help better our country's official website. The fact of the matter is that that web located at http://www.nigeria.gov.ng/ is not worth it to stay as the official website of Nigeria. A redesign is in fact NEEDED. This is the reason why I think Yawa opened this new thread with the topic as "How Would You Better Your Country's Official Website?" Funny enough, people are leaving the caption and talking about irrelevant things.

Let's face the caption and really take it serious.

@Yawa
Thanks for the topic. It is a good one.

@webmasters
Let's think of how we can do something here.
WebmastersRe: Website Reviews Of Nigeria Newspapers by OmniPotens(m): 2:44pm On Nov 01, 2008
I have noticed this too for some time now. It makes me not want to visit their web for news whenever I want to read the day's news. Although they claim to be the most read and with alot of traffic online, I still wonder how they manage to remain there with this kind of problem.

Well, I think it is time to get back to work, trying to know what it has new. Keep coding in the 4.01 then gradually keep including the new specs from 5 to see where it works ad where it doesn't.

WebmastersRe: Web Masters' Professionalism In Nigeria by OmniPotens(m): 10:33am On Oct 31, 2008
Dual Core, you have a very good and big point there. It depends on what we will not look into. I believe many here are wiling to join up and do something better. I guess we make a plan for this and create a new thread to thrash this out. What do you think? Or will WOA be preferred?
WebmastersRe: Web Masters' Professionalism In Nigeria by OmniPotens(m): 7:08am On Oct 31, 2008
Yes Yawa, seriously, we'll all be meeting face-to-face but whenever I remember WOA, I still ask the question "where is my2cents?" I think I'll have to dedicate a thread for members to look into the issue. I think there are some people that this section of this forum are really missing but they actually help in nurturing younger webmasters to become professionals. Don't you think so?

Been hearing d gist around bt never bothered to dig into it. Why should I when it may take long mnths for browsers to implement d specs and longer mnths (even years) for it to win d market over version 4. What happens if u design in 5 and majority of ur users still run on 4 (many naija cafes for ex still complacently run on IE 6). Is there anythg like backward compatibility? I doubt!
Take CSS 2 as an example. Believe me, many browsers (even ones that claim its implementation) are stil leavg out parts of d specs.
Well, lets c what d future holds sha.
You have a good point here. I've been working all night trying to get the best out of this HTML 5. The next thing no is, how many browsers will integrate it and how soon? I hope it will not be a wasted effort anyway. I still think webmasters should still study the references and know them.

On January 22nd, 2008, W3C published the latest working draft for HTML 5.

The HTML 5 working group includes AOL, Apple, Google, IBM, Microsoft, Mozilla, Nokia, Opera, and many hundred other vendors.

Some of the new features in HTML 5 are functions for embedding audio, video, graphics, client-side data storage, and interactive documents. HTML 5 also contains new elements like <nav>, <header>, <footer>, and <figure>.

HTML 5 improves interoperability and reduces development costs by making precise rules on how to handle all HTML elements, and how to recover from errors.

Please, can someone throw more light on the future of HTML 5?
WebmastersRe: Hello New Website Demo by OmniPotens(m): 9:06pm On Oct 30, 2008
Really, I think the design is okay. It is just a prototype which can still be improved on. Rounded corners will really be nice. I believe the text thing Gamine is complaining about is still no issues for now until the index page is up. With the CSS attached, if it remains the same, then all can comment on it.

@Gamine
IMHO, I think you better asked some questions before really concluding on some issues. What if the logo was given to him to use? As for the apple thing there, you can suggest something that was why he posted it for review. Review is all about corrections and suggestions and not about making people feel they have done entire rubbish and posted for review. Newbies will after reading this kinda post, not dare post their works for review, This could lead to our making a mockery of their works when we come across them sometime in the feature. But we actually caused their fear of not seeking reviews before ,

Let's mind our kinda comments sometimes.

@smartsoft
Just keep it up. Try integrate suggestions and see what result you will have.
WebmastersRe: Print Ad Design by OmniPotens(m): 8:46pm On Oct 30, 2008
I don't really see anything wrong about the colours. They match well.

One thing I think people should really understand is this colour thing. A brand colour is a brand colour. No matter the kind of design you try to put up, you must do it matching the brand logo and colour. Take Nigeria for example, have you seen her use any other colour apart from her green and white concept which is the country's brand? Check MTN or Glo. I think this must be put into consideration both in the colour choice for websites as well.

@smartsoft

The design is ok. I hope those small texts will be readable when the hard copy is given out to be read.

Keep it up.

If my view of your concept is what I will explained below, then I can give you a helping hand.

You are trying to design a messaging system. Sample navigation
::: Register
::: Login/ Log out
::: Activation
::: Inbox
::: Sent
::: Compose
::: Delete, etc

I think for these above, I can give a helping hand if they are correct according to your need.
