However, I had to move out of the house after just a month because I was not comfortable. Like others have said, it is very important to ask about all the conditions before moving into any house. Do not allow any landlord to fool you by saying they will send the documentation later(after you move in), it is most likely a trap because at this point, you would have paid and will most likely be bound to fulfill the minimum lease period.

I chose to live in Sydney and the major factor that informed my choice was the availability of jobs in my field. This, and other factors like ease of travel with the public transport system (as I did not intend to drive immediately) helped me decide. In fact, I had a spreadsheet when I was still in Nigeria where I was doing a comparison between Sydney and Melbourne based on the factors I considered important to me.

As I do not drive, I use public transport and spend about $60 per week on travel. The trains are more reliable than the buses so when renting, be sure to ensure that you get a place close to the train station if not driving. You really don't want to have a lot to do with the buses because they can really test your patience.
Just curious to know what you found uncomfortable in your first apartment. It's not uncommon to move into a house only to realize you skipped some things during inspection. If you don't mind you may share.

The Sydney-Melbourne decision seems a lot like the Australia-Canada dilemma in a way. Luckily, I didn't have to dwell much on either. It was very unusual of me on both occasions. cheesy cheesy

Lastly, my Naija licence expired this month (Dec). Renewal process activated but it won't be out before I leave for Sydney. I understand I can drive with my Naija licence for a period of 3 months within which I must transfer my overseas licence to a NSW driver's licence. Does the 3 months period start from date of entry or when I actually started driving? For instance, what if I didn't buy a car until 6 months after date of entry? Anxiety can make someone ask stupid questions at times, so please pardon me in the spirit of the season.

I expect my Naija licence to be ready about a month after my arrival in Sydney. Just trying to avoid the grueling process of obtaining a DL from start. I'll gladly use the train system though.

ginihuh!!..eyes popping....so IOM is not the only ish after all...abeggy they should shift
Price is not the only factor considered when flight hunting. Some consider the number of stops, value added services and airline as well. You'll find that cheap flights have more stop overs, less baggage allowance and less popular/rated airlines.

Notwithstanding, good deals come up every now and then on top airlines. This is where IOM may be useful.

Which of d bank is good, as in,like Nigeria that new generation bank services are better.please advice, which one is good.
I worried about that for a while until I reasoned I could always open with another bank if not satisfied. However, I considered factors such as the branch network, ATM distribution, charges etc Individual preferences is the determinant jare. Same way some of us won't give up our GT for any other bank despite their 'funny' charges.
Personally, I'd suggest NAB for now (or rather, I went for NAB). You can always open another.

Hi fam!
Pls I need advise o. I tried opening a NAB classic account from naija and experienced issues because they asked for phone no and I was putting +234...Apparently they expect the no to be an aussie no. Any ideas on what to do pls? Or do I try another bank? Any referrals with good testimonies?
Yeeshas:
Same happened to us as well as we plan to transfer our money there before leaving Nigeria. But I'm guessing we will just wait till we arrive. If you ever find a way, please let me know will you? Thank you.
In addition to the link Alphadoor posted, I used this

https://www.nationalaustraliabank.com/nabglobal/migrant

When you click "Apply" it opens the same form >>

https://www.nationalaustraliabank.com/australian-account

I have since completed my account opening using my Nigerian address and phone number (no money to send yet cheesy ). It was a smooth process. Your account number is sent to you via email in about 24-48 hours. You'll also be sent your internet log in details via a seperate email (for security reasons) another 24 hours after.
Read the instructions on the PDF attachment containing your acct details carefully.

No need to argue further if you say so but I could remember very well that a Nairalander who traveled to Sydney said she couldn’t use the ATM because it keeps declining but was able to use POS and Web for transactions she gave the rate Access Bank #299 to 1

BTW when was the last time you travel to Schengen area ?
Last time I was in the Schengen was October 2016. So my information must be outdated shey? cheesy cheesy

Oga o. As you said, it's pointless arguing. It's possible they flipped a policy yet again huh huh I actually called a friend in Melbourne who said I can. In fact, he just answered "sure now". LOL. One needs to be adequately prepared against unforeseen circumstances sha to avoid stories that touch.

I’m 99% sure ....I think you don’t reside in Nigeria presently
Let's reduce the bolded to 5% because you got that response from your bank's customer care officer. We will assume he/she responded in ignorance or the issue is with your bank (See attached image). Hope your card is not the Verve card?

I have attached a screenshot from abokifx.com which collates data from users of Nigerian banks' NAIRA debit card users all over the world. Open the link and scroll to where you have "Bank ATM Rates". You have the date, location, issuing bank, rate charged and currency dispensed. Where you have "Online" indicates it was used for a web/online transaction.

Lastly, I use my GTBank Naira debit card on the few occasions I have been in the Schengen area (ATM dispensed Euro cheesy)

Caveat: I am only 100% sure about GTBank Naira debit cards (99.999% for other banks' Visa/Mastercard) since I have personal experience but I reckon it should be applicable to all banks with Visa or Mastercards.

Omg! Bro it's actually not funny. This is absolutely unnecessary. Change your orientation.

It would have been better if you applied for PR directly from Nigeria. Experience not a compulsory requirement for Engineering graduates.

You can only use Naira debit cards with POS/ONLINE but not with ATM the only solution is to open dollar account and fund it with USD and request for the debit card
Are you sure about this information? Any ATM anywhere in the world that accepts VISA cards should dispense the local currency in the country using your Naija Naira VISA debit card. Same goes with MasterCard cards on ATMs accepting it.
Rate and limit is set by the local bank here in Naija

Never heard is country selective.

Easy easy! Na temperament issue be this. It can be sometimes irritating/annoying no doubt but best bet is to skip or ignore such posts. Believe me, I know where that came from. You won't believe the things I Google on the internet in search of info. Tell me anything....I go confirm am with my padi.

You're privileged to be enlightened. However, there are lots of people that need help finding their way around such things. On your part, it is not a good attitude going through life dissing those you perceive ignorant or lazy. Free them, God knows they (people that don't know what we think they should know) exist and he has placed some folks with grace to instruct them gently along their path.

Make this thread no scatter abeg they skip such questions. Dust your camera and keep the pictures coming.

I am grateful to God and I am thankful to Bellong and everyone here doing a great job to help other people. Thank you and God bless!

Congrats Misoke!

Please, how come you have three EOIs? Are they based on three different EOI IDs? I know there is a provision where one can check more than one visa class, was this how you did yours?

I have filled up mine, and checked 189 and 190. I only need to update my assessment outcome when it's out, before submitting.

I want to believe you checked three visa classes to have three EOI.

Please, kindly explain better if I am wrong, so I can sharply make corrections.

Thanks a bunch!!!
You can submit separate EOI for the Visa classes.

Thanks.
Fret not! It's not uncommon. In fact, it might remain unchanged until the final outcome - positive assessment. Good luck

Omooloriredade , congrat! Pls how did you go about processing your birth certificate with National population commission?

How do I go about it cuz I want to process mine too.
Go to the NPC office closest to you. Go along with your passport photo and probably an ID( didn't send any ID). It costs between 5k and 10k (don't remember how much exactly). Just asked my old folks to process it on my behalf outside Lagos. They would require your full names and permanent address (and...don't remember again jare). It was ready in a week.
