Yes we chose Yoruba as most spoken.then others as reason for test.
Under specify we wrote, for job related reasons(promotion).
I don't think this is necessary. From my own experience, it seemed to have worked in my favour. I filled "Immigration" as my reason for writing the exam. My result was a miracle. I couldn't get myself to study well for the exam. My speaking test was awful in my opinion but for the discussion I had with the examiner prior to the start of the test. He must have graded that as well. Speaking=7.5.
Writing nko, I disobeyed/disregarded an important rule of completing 250 words for task 2 and also didn't meet up with the required word count for task 1. Word count for task 2 was just about 200 while task 1 was a little less than 150.
Writing=7
Reading=7.5
Listening =8.0
To me, it seemed I was aided in the speaking and writing aspects......like my performance was adjudged to be sufficient for Australian immigration purposes. So all nah speculation. No one knows for a fact and could actually be unnecessary misrepresenting the purpose of writing the test. I'm sure many have 'spanked' this test regardless.

Don't disturb yourself with any meeting. Just do a statutory declaration and explain why you couldn't get a letter. Add those documents as back up and you will be fine.

Most Nigerian employers are like that. In my layman's opinion, what you have listed above plus your letter(s) of employment/confirmation/promotion should be enough to establish the authenticity of your employment claim.

How about getting a trusted senior colleague to write some sort of personal reference for you? It should be "To Whom It May Concern" so that you won't have to go back to him on it.

You may go further by obtaining a written job description of your job role from your company's HR as a supporting documentation.

Borrowing an idea from the Canadian Immigration thread, you may write a brief explanation as to why you were unable to obtain one from your HR i.e. it is not in your company's policy to issue such letters to a serving staff.

At least, the latter is what my employer told me when I requested for such a letter.

NB: The above are my layman's opinion.
Thanks. I'll weigh the options after meeting with them in January.

@Keleto,

My advice is take time to read the entire thread. Your questions have been treated many times. Knowledge through reading is power.

You can use bank statement but you will add other convincing evidence like employment offer letter, promotion letter, resignation (if old employment) letter and tax clearance if you have it.

For old employment, statutory declaration is what you need to do.
My case is similar. I might have to rely on Pension statement, bank statement, payslips and possibly tax records. My HR dept is probing too hard even after informing them the reference letter is to be used for an Engineering assessment. They don't want me to abscond. In fact, discussion on the matter has been postponed till January. cry

please guys, we should be careful on this forum. Could u imagine that this guy who was seeking for who will pick him up in Brisbane is fake. He said he will come to my house on 13th October so I gave him 10k to buy foodstuffs up till now , I haven't seen him and he refused to disclose where he is ... Guys should be very careful ooo. Maybe he was expecting something bigger....lol ..Don't gv anyone anything if u r nt sure of the person...
Let's not be quick to demonize this guy. He goofed with the pick up arrangement. He was highly inconsiderate to have done what he did. I think it was youthful indiscretion that led to that. He only needs to "grow up".
In this case, he might be struggling to settle down. I'm tempted to think he will get in touch with you soon. Give him the benefit of the doubt.

Listening: 9.0
Reading: 9.0
Writing: 7.5
Speaking: 7.5

Overall: 8.5

Too bad. what do you guys think, should I call for a review of the last two or just register for PTE-A straightaway
When was your exam date? Mine was on the 24th of Sept but the result is not yet available online.
TravelRe: General Guide To Australian Permanent Resident Visa Through Skilled Migration. by Omooloriredade: 12:50am On Aug 27, 2016
Hello house. I am about to register for the IELTS. I picked Sept 24 but the issue is that of the speaking test which is usually scheduled within 7days before or after the actual exam date. I would only be available in the region (Ibadan) from the 18th of Sept. Is there a chance the speaking test won't fall exactly a week (17th) to the main exam date? 52k is a lot of money to throwaway my people.

The spouse doesn't need to take IELTS if you won't claim any partner points and also if spouse can show proof of functional English.

For EA assessment as a Pet. Engr, it's IELTS (General); also EA has been accepting TOEFL iBT (this since Jan 2016).
Copied from the MSA booklet:

"Applicants who provide an IELTS test result must have
a minimum score of 6.0 in each of the four modules
of speaking, listening, reading and writing. Engineers
Australia accepts both the General and Academic
versions of the test.

TOEFL iBT®
From the 1st January 2016, Engineers Australia
will be accepting the TOEFL iBT®
as an alternative
English language test to address the English language
competency element of the Skills Assessment. Applicants
will need a TOEFL iBT® result with the following minimal
scores for each module:
Listening: 12 Reading: 13 Writing: 21 Speaking: 18"

CareerRe: For Bankers, Ex Bankers And Bankers To Be by Omooloriredade: 7:53pm On Oct 12, 2015
Wow...... this thread is an eye-opener. I feel so much sympathy for bankers right now. Initially, I envied the clean and expensive looks synonymous with bankers. But I later learnt about the pain behind the looks and fat salaries. This thread is even more revealing. A friend of mine who worked in FCMB 2008/2009 used to complain about the dress codes. The type and colour of shirts they could wear was literally dictated to workers back then. He is an Engineering graduate so he has since ported to Hali.
To the aspiring bankers, there is no point being discouraged. Learn from the experiences of the old horses and pursue your goals still. It's not easy in most places or any human endeavor. Ask Doctors, students nko (except for the ajebo schools o). I have an habit though, I am a chronic investor. So take a cue from those that have gone ahead of you. Save and invest before you spend a kobo. Have a plan too.

Normally for tourism you are approved for b1/b2 visa, meaning business type visa and tourism type visa.

California is a great place to visit depends which part, north or southern part. Every one anyways wants to visit NY so you can't get it wrong in both.

Good Luck
Many thanks. smiley

When you mentioned staten island, NY. It shows you have families/relatives/friends their. When asked why NY, I thought you should have concentrated on those loved ones before the side attractions.

Another mind bubbling thing is 2 weeks vacation to north american. A question will be asked he earns xyz say mid size income, is it worth 2 weeks vacation. I should think a month if you are entitled for it at your work place could havr being a good period to vacat.

Now know these mentioned above may not be the issue but remember they are psychologist and they ask them selves questions based on your response to there questions. I will advise to hold on a bit and reapply much later. A little in a rush is suicidal. Please hang on a little and a little reorganization on your own part will help alot.

Good Luck
You are too much. So on point. After the interview, I tried to review my transcript myself. I felt my answer to why NY was not convincing to the VO. In my application, I indicated I have a relative in Staten Island. But my reasons for picking NY was the reason I gave the VO though. It made more sense for me to visit NY because it had more attractions and direct flight there was cheaper. My other alternative was California (I also have someone there). It can't be compared to NY, right? Like a foreigner comparing Lagos and Kwara for vacation (so it seemed to me). I guess the VO wanted me to mention that I had a relative there.
Also, the VO mentioned that I didn't qualify for the "type of visa" I applied for. I can't remember if there is an option to pick just B2 only or B1/B2. I remember picking B1/B2 either on the appointment scheduling platform or DS 160. I know you are given B1/B2 if your application is successful but maybe I should have been more specific in my selection.

For the bolded, a month will require more money nah cheesy grin

I actually appreciate this discourse. Like the poster herself responded, there is just provision for monthly income. Which was why I stated it. Bankers receive other allowances. Will it be classified as mnthly income? I think not. I also worked as a banker and got my visa as a banker. My salary was roughly that 120k then (EA) Did I 'adjust' it? No.
But when people get fixated on an idea, it sounds like wickedness when the truth is blunt.
I sincerely wish for all HONEST applicants to get their vacay visa but I also believe research goes a long way . (I am a sustitute teacher) and I have seen it works
Sentiments takes nobody far...
You have not seen people asking obvious questions out of pure confusion? These types of questions are understandably different from the google-friendly questions (I support your google crusade cheesy )
One answer does not fit all because some are truly innocent but sincerely ignorant. I am not attacking you my dear. I just couldn't overlook it this time. No vex.

How do you adjust your own salary as an employee?
It was the wrong expression to use by the poster. Cozybunch understood this and gave the appropriate response. We all know that some organizations pay certain lump sums upfront as well as allowances which when considered reflects the economic situation of the applicant. However, you only have a portion to fill your net income. Applicants who so desire, can come with other documents, payslips, statements, offer letters, investment advice (like statement) that capture these incomes. The fact that VOs seldom check docs is another topic entirely.

Do not latch on to a sentence or word and respond to a post. Read and try as much as possible to understand the poster before you respond. He/she might just be innocent. Most are just confused and seeking guidance. Do not see it as an opportunity to torn them to shreds. Respect the vulnerable in the society cheesy cheesy

Thanks but there is no portion in the form where you can explain that you earn more than your monthly income. Also I have some fund as fund in fixed deposit investment that yield interest on a monthly basis
Don't be too fixated on your 129k salary. It's not enough reason for you to be denied Visa. We have read transcripts of people who don't earn fantastic salaries and got their application approved. We have also read transcripts of Forbes nominees who were bounced. Build ties that will convince you and most importantly the VO that your intention is not to emigrate illegally. Work on other aspects like your travel history.

7:00am appointment....Lagos consulate

VO: Good morning
Me: Good morning
VO: Your passport please
Me: Passed my passport to him
VO: Left fingers on biometric machine to confirm your biometric please
Me: Complied
VO: Where are you going?
Me: Staten Island, New York.
VO: Purpose?
Me: Vacation.
VO: Where would you like to visit in New York?
Me: Stature of liberty, empire state building, Wall street and I heard there is a famous Richmond historic town even in Staten Island.
VO: What industry do you work?
Me: Telecommunication
VO: Company?
Me: Told him
VO: What's your job function?
Me: Explained to him.
VO: Do you actually handle installations?
Me: No, we use subcontractors for installation while I handle commissioning and acceptance testing with the customer
(Any time he asks a question, he goes back to typing while I answer his questions).
VO: How long do you plan to stay?
Me: 2 weeks
VO: Why New York?
Me: Because it has a lot of tourist attractions
VO: I am sorry, you do not qualify for the type of visa you are applying for at this time. You are welcome to reapply. I going to give you a form which explains in detail.
Me: Thank you.

The VO was a gentle man nonetheless. I like his disposition, infact at some point, I thought to myself......this guy will approve my visa cheesy cheesy
No issues, I intend to reapply in 3 months time. probably start another application in October and schedule an appointment to coincide with my 3mths visa denial anniversary. Meanwhile, I have continued with real life cheesy

In between the agents you meet and all, telling you to staple you passport to your confirmation. and also asking you to make a photocopy of your biodata page, they are all lies. Do not staple your passport to the confirmation page and also they didnt ask for any photocopy of your passport bio data page. You can imagine doing a photocopy of your biodata page as high as 500 naira... They do play on the ignorance of the individuals. All they need is your ds160 confirmation, appointment confirmation, passport photograph and your international passport.

Also ensure you fill the form your self as i did all myself and it was an easy task. They basically ask you questions based on what you fill on your form. and be truthful...avoid telling lies. They are trained to do detect lies. Once again this forum really helped a lot.
Please don't come with your phones too. I also confirmed that every square metre on the Island is prime real estate when I needed to park my car. One of the business centre operators offered to keep my car key for a token. Of course, I don tey for Lagos. Car keys and wrist watches are the only battery powered devices allowed inside.
