coogar: i already answered you - i said i visit naija twice a year, i have been there once this year and should return again for christmas and its been that way for more than a decade now so i know nigeria like the back of my hands! i stay in the fulham area in london and i visit a dozen nigerian communities in the capital -between 55,000 - 65,000 pounds per annum (very legit). The Nigerian environment is enabling for anyone who wants to develop it. I have frequent business meetings with Britons, Chinese, Lebanese, Indians. They all stay in Lagos, club in Lagos, do business in Lagos, do capital flight away from Lagos and yet they ain't dead. Many of them don't want to go back to their countries. If you do not like Lagos, you can go to Abuja. But for you to give an excuse that Nigeria is insecure for you to develop it is no excuse, rather you can tell us you are raising capital or looking for it. |
dasparrow: @PostMention those obstacles hindering you from implementing your ideas in Nigeria and I will revert to you reasons why those obstacles ain't obstacles. |
coogar: i visit nigeria twice a year - present location(uk)Well I presume you are not comfortable with my questions because I asked you the last time you visited Lagos and not how frequent you visit Lagos. I would also have loved to ask you where you stay in the UK and I will tell you what goes on around you there (crime wise). I stayed in the UK for a while before coming back home, Lagos precisely. You cannot rant about things when you do not know what is actually happening. I would give you an example, I wanted to go to Cape Town for a presentation and I decided to do a research about the city. I browse the internet and I was terrified about what I read. I almost cancelled the presentation till I was assured of my safety. However, when I got to Cape Town I had the time of my life. I really enjoyed myself and I intend to go on a vacation there. Coogar, you do not have any excuse not to come back home and develop your fathers land, you also do not have the right to haul insults at your country when you do not do anything to change it. There is no perfect society in the world, while some seem to be properly coordinated, some are disorganise. You made mention of a security man earning more than a bank manager in Nigeria. That comment made me laugh and indicate that you have been away for long. Please note that there is so much you can do for this country than insulting it. It is your home, it is your identity. |
coogar: i stay in lagos when i am in nigeria...I was asking for your present location. Also, when was the last time you visited Lagos? |
coogar: i stay in lagos but that's beside the point - it's not about me my life is not worth more than the others suffering in that country! why can't there be security in every part of the country? why are people still their own local government? mr okafor has a generating set, he dug borehole, he has flood lights @ his gate and he hires a security guard to protect his life and property! is that normal to you?You stay in Lagos and why are you sounding like you are not in the country. |
coogar: how do i develop it when there's no safety? do i look like osama bin kunle to you? asking any nigerian to come home and develop the country is a suicide mission! the country must first purge itself from the street urchins and the career criminals running amok in the country! my life has no duplicate so nigeria can fück herself for all i care!@Coogar, I would love you to answer these questions Where exactly in Nigeria do you feel there is insecurity that is keeping you away from developing the country? Where do you currently reside? |
coogar: it's not a dickwaving contest - i don't give a flying fück about what people think about my comments! it pains to see what that country as become. 4 youths murdered in cold blood this morning because they were suspected to have stolen laptops/phones! in other words, a uk-used mobile phone has more worth than 4 lives!!! that's the country you want me to praise!!Do not allow issues like this rob you off the big picture. Nigeria is not asking you to praise or curse it. It is asking you to come develop it. If you don't do it who will! Please be easy on the f-word, it doesn't connotes a civil person. |
@coogar It is good to express your opinions but how you express your opinions matters. Please note that expressing your opinions does not change anything. If you call Nigerian a shit-hole, what have you done to make it less of a shit-hole. |
coogar: you herbs are still here? Are you a Nigerian? If you are, it baffles me you could say stuff like this. |
"A man who loses his true identity is a man closer to his grave". Nigeria is our home (diaspora or native) and we owe it a duty to fix it and not complain about it. We are like lazy brothers complaining about fixing the leaking roof, some of us have abandoned the house to go stay with neighbours, others choose to stay without doing anything about the roof. Yet the roof is still leaking. We cry and complain about our politicians but are our politicians not part of us? What is the fuss all about? A true patriotic Nigerian (diaspora or native) would be bitter about the way things are in the country. But being bitter isn't enough, we have to do something to put Nigeria on the path of success. We must believe in our country, we must believe that the Nigerian Project would work. However, it would only work when its citizens (diaspora and natives) do something about it. GOD BLESS NIGERIA. |
HiiiPower: What's "diasporan?"I must confess your comment cracked me up. Very funny. |
kellystech: Dey should just give up dia ego and sign contract with google to produce android, dem go sell scatter cos people still loves dia productI think this might be a good idea, they provide the platform and Google provides the software. Should be awesome. Like I said, they need something big, they need to sell products and not headquarter buildings. |
This is an indication of problem, well it has been stated that Nokia is a loss making company. When a company is not liquid, there are traces of insolvency. The possibility of them obtaining loans for capital or project expenditure is slim. I don't know if Nokia is on its way to recovery because if you dispose off assets, cut down operational expenditures like laying off staff, your survival will only be in the short-run. The industry is a fiercely competitive one, with the likes of Apple and Samsung having a huge share of the market base. Nokia must produce the next big thing if it intends to be a going concern or invest in other fields. Else, the entity called Nokia is heading for doom. |
Do we need a mistake in the presidential speech to conclude that our President is not at the helm of affairs? The signs are all written on the wall. This is a President that is yet to implement the Capital Expenditure Budget for 2012 and we have just 2 months to go. The same President that setup some many committees on the Fuel Subsidy Scandal and is yet to implement any of their recommendations. The same President that has on his table some many bills passed by the House of Assembly and is yet to sign any into law. The same President constituted an Economic Management Team to manage the economy and the only thing these guys thought of was the Introduction of N5000 currency bills. It is obvious that Nigerians are tired of him. The power situation in the country has taken a backslide rather than the positive outlook being experienced in the country. I thought there was an impeachment threat. |
dasparrow: @PostOh you are so blessed. I wish this was twitter I would have retweeted your post over a thousand times. You forgot to mention "sagging", a particular reason Calvin Klein said his clothes are not meant for black people |
I dont think Danka is tryinh to discredit Ojukwu. History is there for us all to see, it is well documented that Ojukwu was coerced to go to war. I have never liked that man, out of ego we fought with ourselves, out of ego we created a division that still exist in the Nigerian society, out of ego many families lost loves ones. As a supposed great leader, Ojukwu who was supposed to captain his ship abandoned it for the luxuries of life. He was never my hero and would never be. |
Danka7777: I can say emphatically that Ikemba Ojukwu was not a responsible man. 90% of Nairalanders will align with me on this. He may had be educated but not sensible, rational and responsible. What sensible and rational man would marry a woman capable of being his grand daughter? What responsible man will abandon his wives, destroy a beautiful family just for the taste of a younger flower? I am being reasonable with my comment as they are factual and verifiable. The same man that started a war, boasted on how he would defeat his enemies, abandoned his people and flee away to safety |
mrkels: What is wrong with you and why are you hating? The lady did her birthday in nigeria and cokobar threw another 1 for her ilondon on saturday to promote their club, it was all paid by them and she didn't even spend a dime on the whole issue, get your facts straight HATER.Laughs.... Maybe I didn't get the facts right and I wasn't hating. I only pointed out an observation. I noticed how we Nigerians enjoy the identities of other countries and do not want to accept our own skin. How we love showing off by engaging in things that doesn't matter. FYI, I am a Chartered Certified Accountant and a business man, you can say I am successful but success is relative and being successful to me doesn't mean throwing a bash in the UK, when I am there I am transacting not throwing money away. That's how shrewd I can be. I don't impress people by the number of champagne I drink per night, I do that by the quality of services, business models and ideas I design and provide. ![]() |
tboy1: Chill out dude, what does this woman's birthday have to do with telco & oil & gas companies??Well I just assume you are right because we Nigerians e get as we dey do. We like Jones too much and forget the realities of life. Why I am pointing out this fact is because I am seeing a trend before you know it, its going to be a culture and you know sey we sabi copy. Our musicians should take note too. These our attitude of show-off needs to be curtailed and I really don't know who we are impressing - our friends, who would abandon us when the road gets tough? |
A shallow minded poster. First correct your spellings. |
Honestly its good to celebrate birthdays, but this is negative show off on an economic point of things and bad for the Nigerian economy. Why throw a bash in London, is there anything wrong with Lagos or Abuja venues. This is the same capital flight we are accusing MTN, Multi-choice, Shell, Cadbury e.t.c. Now our own people are indulging in it. I believe Linda Ikeji makes her income in this country and has decided to take it outside the country and throw it away in the UK. If she claims it is her money and she has the right to do whether she wants to, I would tell her that she is certainly right. However, she is offering her services to the Nigerian people and she makes her income off the Nigerian people so she should contribute to the economy by ensuring there is circulation of wealth in order for her customers to patronise her more. This is the same thing with our Nigerian musicians, we pay them for their products or services. They take our money and go outside to shoot a video in South Africa, US or UK, then bring back this product, after paying those guys over there (Capital or Investment Flight) and sell it to us (And the Cycle is repeated again). I have told myself that I would not patronise them anymore because this is pure economic waste. We need to be growing our economy, foreigners should be coming to shoot their videos and throw the parties in our country. This is some sort of Inferiority complex. If Linda likes UK music, she can actually bring the DJ to Lagos, and let him do his thing, pay his taxes for making money in this country and tell his friends he had a good time. Congrats to you Linda, but you need to stop this. Else you don't have any right accusing politicians who take our money outside the country because you are actually doing the same. Well, they are saving the funds and you are blowing yours away. Wise up. |
chelseabmw: [b]Evra from Man 'cunts' United Claimed that Luis Suarez from Liverpool, Has said a racist words for him during the match at Anfield. No videos. No Witnesses. Suarez got a 8 matches ban.Is this a comment from a man or from a goat? |
Honestly who is this guy. I hear his name but I don't know him. What does he do for a living? |
2015 is going to be interesting. I hear OBJ isn't backing Jonathan for the Presidency. The guy sef no dey try, romancing people like Sanusi who is killing the economy. I don't think Jonathan would return to Aso Rock come May 29th 2015 and it would go to history that he was the most inactive president Nigerian has ever produced. |
Oga inform your lawyers to write them. Coscharis is too big for this nonsense. It is a brand name and should be able to compensate for issues like this. Address the letter to Cosmas Maduka (the CEO) and include a date for them to revert to you. If no response, sue them to court for damages. |
afam4eva: There are only a few companies that use Oracle in Nigeria and they're mostly multi-nationals. The only bank i know that uses Oracle is Zenith. There jusr aren't jobs for Oracle Database Administrators(DBA).why make this claim. Many companies use oracle, all banks in Nigeria uses oracle as their database platform. @ Poster there is hope for you. As a matter of fact you can get a job as quick as possible. Just submit your C.Vs to Banks, Oil Companies and I.T firms. I will suggest I.T firms where you can get the necessary experience you need. |
Eko Atlantic: Mr Gbawe you're right to some extent, but I doubt it this method can be applied to the issue of Nigeria. Apart from S/West(Lagos and Ogun specifically), I doubt if there is any state, city or region where immigrants can say trash about his host state. A person migrated from his home state to Lagos, on getting there he joined his people by saying "Lagos is no mans land". Is that rightful of him? It's annoying to people like us.I think you have failed to realise that Lagos is a city. Can anyone claim New York? Can anyone claim Abuja now? How about Port-Harcourt? Even London. I think this nonsense should stop. Our yoruba brothers must come to the term of realisation that nobody owns Lagos anymore, it is now owned by hard working people who intend to develop the city. While we have not seen a huge influx of white foreigners and other nationalities is because the Nigerian economy is not developed. But be prepared for this, because we cannot escape it. You cannot go to the North because the North has nothing to offer, economic activities is even on the negative side. Please go and confirm from Fashola - An Igbo man who contributes to the growth of Lagos (by paying his taxes and providing jobs) is a better citizen than a Yoruba Lagosian who contributes zero naira to the lagos economy. |
I think this issue is not a case of tribal orientation but one aimed at reducing the level of crime in Lagos. Lagos is now an integrated city with many tribes, race claiming citizenship. The case of "original son of the soil" should be wiped out completely as this is a high level of discrimination. As a resident of Lagos, you must contribute to the growth of the city, you cannot enjoy infrastructures without paying your taxes (if you are a taxable individual). There are some many restitutes littering around the streets of Lagos, the growing number is a threat to our survival (this is the case of Cape Town and Jo'Burg). I almost got robbed by miscreant on Tuesday along Oshodi-Apapa expressway (to be honest, they were of yoruba heritage). Lagos needs a face-lift, a thorough restructuring and land-scape design where each resident can be properly accounted for. The population of the city is increasing in its millions annually, while this may be a good sign in terms of tax revenue, the reverse is the case. We have people immigrating to Lagos with no plan, hope of survival only to extort, rob and kill those struggling for survival, we also have cases where people generate income without any remittance to the government. These people, regardless of their state or country of origin, should be deported back to where they are from. |
I don't know if people truly understand that this is a serious issue for our country. It is true that many of these debtors shy away from paying their debt. I remember Otedola vividly and how he swore he will never pay Access Bank because of foreign exchange movement. The issue was a very serious one that both Aigboje and Otedola were threatening each other and they had to go get personal security escorts. It also amazes me when someone would take an overdraft (a short-term loan) to finance a real estate project (a capital intensive project). How do you expect such person to pay back the loan. However, we should not forget that the cost of doing business in this country is very high. Our cost of borrowing (interest rate) is one of the highest in the world. We borrow at 24 - 37%, while in the UK it is just 4%. Yet, Jonathan, his finance minister, CBN governor and the economic team are telling Nigerians that they will create jobs. Well I laughed when I initially read their write-ups and I ask myself how? With over 92% of the imported products in this country, poor power supply, nepotism and corruption, high interest rate, negligence from banks to borrow. How do these MAD MEN intend to turn Nigeria (A highly consumption economy) to a productive economy. We are never going to get out of this incessant recession if the same set of people continue to be at the helm of affairs. I pray Sanusi still looks at the overall effect of what this directive will cause to the Nigerian economy. A move like this might send us straight to depression. We have a government that is grossly ineffective and wasteful with resources, driven by people who lack initiatives and innovations. Sanusi should be chasing microfinance banks to live up to expectations and start lending, the main objective they were established in the first place. We need a true economist as CBN governor not a Risk Professional. Ngozi should start thinking or hire people to start thinking for her rather than being a medium of payment because that is what she does. She is just so ineffective that at the last quarter of the year she is yet to implement capital expenditure in the budget. So why do we have a budget? |
Sanusi seem to always prefer to cure headaches by cutting off heads. Something do need to be done about serial debtors but cutting off leverage financing will damage both the businesses in question and the banks! Deposit money banks cannot survive without lending, and lending to the big players! It is not true that these debts are not collateralized as the banks usually hold Fixed & Floating Debentures on the obligor's total assets. Let me assure you that Arik Air, for instance, operating airplanes that are often jointly owned by them and their bankers. Nigerian banks are not that stupid. The real problem is that many Nigerian businesses have also become so politically connected that they have overgrown the law. My 2-dollar advice is that the CBN put more pressure on the banks by increasing bad debt provision rates to such points that many of these "doubtful" debts will quickly be re-classified as "non-performing" or "bad"! This way, the banks will be forced to call in their collaterals or they themselves will die! This option is useless thou without the sincere backing of the Federal Government.
You have said it all. I wonder why Sanusi always want to kill straight. The man has no business sense. I will not blame him because he is a risk professional. Our economy is not expanding but revolves around these debtors, if they cannot finance their business of what use do we have an economy especially when we cannot expand by supporting SMEs/Start-ups. Sanusi is stiffening our economy, these debtors will begin to cut operating expenses in other to survive (I give them few years to wind up) thereby pushing more employees to the street and increasing the number of unemployed people in our society. The same society Jonathan, Ngozi and Sanusi vowed to provide JOBS. This stupid directive has a triple effect, Government Tax Revenue will go down (Tax from Employment Income and Corporate Income) thereby infrastructures that should be provided will no longer be available (well they are even yet to implement 2012 budget). Is it because the Government depends largely on Oil as source of Revenue that they are so blind to see that Sanusi wants to kill everybody. At the same time, these debtors should try and service their debts. I do not know if they don't have sound financial management where they should critically analyse their borrowing cost. THIS IS BAD FOR THE NIGERIAN ECONOMY. SANUSI MUST GO. |
I wonder why she is writing a book. I was of the opinion that people always write about their success. This woman is already a failure, she has failed herself and her country. We are about the enter the last quarter of the year and the budget is yet to be implemented. Already there is a budget draft going on for 2013. What remarkable thing has she done, rather than being a payment medium for the Government and its corrupt friends. She promised to create jobs, how many has she created? She promised to revive the manufacturing sector. She also promised along side her boss to ensure steady power supply. Now take a look at PHCN, the only working minister (Barth Nnaji) has been asked to leave (sorry resigned). Now PHCN has now returned back to its ugly state of constant irregular power supply. Will she come out proudly and tell Nigerians that she is working? Our economy is dying on a daily basis, many companies are closing up, start-ups can't find their feet (either the banks eat them up with excessive interest charges or they die due to huge operating expense). If she cannot be ashamed, I am ashamed for her. What has she achieved that she is writing a book. |
