Jennykoko3009:I think you should have enough money at home. And stock up your fridge and buy cans of food and Indomie and get enough stored drinking water. Because if for any reason, you're unable to move around (either escalating violence or curfew), you should barricade yourself indoors. Better be safe than sorry. Please keep us informed about your situation. |

Hello, checking in on the Mums in Aba. Heard there was quite a commotion overnight with tribal clashes. Please stay safe and perhaps cancel outings if you had plans to leave the house today |

Never come between True Love. Didn't he release her nudes when they were fighting? And now they have babies, awww. |
thorpido:My brother, What are you still doing in Obodo Nigeria? When you could be a specialist driving a Mercedes outside the country. |
Jennykoko3009:It's cool. I should have posted my birth announcement or story, but I never joined any month team so I didn't want to hijack. It was kinda funny (now, not then ). But this is what I experienced and both times, I could compare what I did and what I could improve on and what was out of my control (no, I'll never be like all the strong women who go "Oh I'm at 8cm dilation, why I didn't even notice!" ). |
babythug:Isn't pepper a shrub-like plant? I recall seeing wild pepper (the small hot habaneros) growing on shrubs and bushes, in Ogun state. Will you eventually repot? |
Hello guys, a few Fluff Mamas asked me at what weight can they transition from Newborn prefolds to Regular prefolds. The answer is anything from about 5kg (somewhere around 2 months old). It's a nice stretchy material so will fit snugly. |
If you really wanna DIY here, please mention my moniker from time to time. I have a "few" ( ) contacts in the creative industry and a lot of them are organizing small hands-on workshops (some are free). For example, there is a plein-air painting group that teaches how to draw/paint for free, and that is amazing for good DIYs. And there's this lady that does incredible stuff with paper (we have a paper DIY group, I'm actually supposed to demo something but laziness won't let me be great). Here's a good place to start shopping for stuff: AB Artworld is Nigeria's oldest arts and crafts shop. They have a large selection of materials including books and videos, from cake decorating to photography to painting to quilting and knitting. And they will be stocking quality wool and yarn pretty soon (it should be ordered in by October/November). They have locations across the major cities (Lagos, Abuja, PH, Ibadan). When I was posting the Children's activity topics on the this thread, I got all my supplies from them (they do back to school sales). http://abartworld.com |
goodfortun:Sent you a pm. Just reply the email. |

goodfortun:It sounds like you have a bad latch and baby is clamping down on breast tissue. Maybe look at some videos of breastfeeding on YouTube? I have an unopened tube of Lasinoh, which is the popular nipples cream brand. If you're interested in buying it off me, perhaps we can look up the price and figure out delivery. ![]() |
Let me use this Mall for Africa to order some children's toys. I'll see how it goes, hopefully. |
enque:Thanks. Why is Jumia being sensored, I thought they had advertised with Nairaland so they would be allowed to post links. By the way, those of us using postpartum belts, can you use then whilst exercising? |
nana228:This looks so much better than the ones I usually see. Please how much and how do you order? |
ifyalways:ALRIGHT!! WOO-HOO!! ![]() Lemme dance azonto for you. Congratulobia!!! Abeg send picture in the other room. |
Jennykoko3009:To understand what happens during a wall squat, you should understand what a contraction does. Get a sachet of pure water (your full uterus) and put a hole in it. Water will come out. But if you press part of the bag, water will gush out faster. And that's what a contraction is: pressure on your uterus pushing the baby into the birth canal. It however is painful and human beings are designed to clench up in pain (hit any part of your body on something painful and you will recoil back). Which is not what you should be doing during contractions, you should be opening your cervix more. And squats do that. But if you're pregnant, you're front-heavy. And since very few Nigerian women do Yoga, you most likely don't know how to balance well. So lean your back against a wall for support and squat. Do it a lot, especially during contractions, to open up that whole area more. It will ease the pain of contractions, infact staying still makes contractions feel more painful so be active. And breathe through your squats and contractions: breathe in going down when contraction is peaking, push the air towards your stomach (like you're trying to inflate a balloon) and breathe out through your mouth coming up from the squat, when the contraction (which acts like a wave) is reducing. Whatever you do, don't sit or lie down unless they are checking you or you have to because they are monitoring fetal heart rate or something medical. PS: do you know what a popsicle is? One typo of cheapo ice cream that is basically flavored water, Sugar and coloring on a stick, frozen. It's much nicer than plain ice during labour and the sugar will give you energy. Because you will get dehydrated and tired. So look for some and ask your Dr if you can lick during Iabour.

#TipTuesday For breastpumps, Medela Evenflo Lasinoh Ameda Spectra Medela has a strong suction (some people hate it), Spectra is a gentler machine (some people think its suction too soft and it's not strong on dual pumping). Ameda is pretty good, a lot of hospitals abroad like it. All those brands are the consistent brands mentioned every year in review. Keep it within those brands, most of the ones sold in Nigeria from China are very cheaply made and will die. Penny wise, Pound foolish. What you can do is look for the ones with dual voltage or buy the right adaptor or buy from the UK. A breastpump is an investment, buy well. |
Chanbaby:I flew with a 6 month old. It was okay. Heck, I have flown at 2 months (and the plane nearly crashed ) and it was okay. But do you wanna be active during the wedding, because you may need someone to hold baby. If she is your very good friend (and she will appreciate the money), maybe send it and plan on visiting her in a month's time (October has a public holiday, so 3 day weekend). |
kelizosuy:Some people don't take to epidurals too well. I don't. And a few other women don't. Some times, epidurals do slow down labour (I could barely push and I tore from the pressure of baby coming out and being unable to push well, but it wasn't a bad tear). If you must take an epidural, take it on time, 4cm. So you have enough time to get used to it. If you must go without epidural, be as active as possible. I mean, active. Not your regular day schedule but active. And once labour starts, from active to transitional stage, be active: wall squats give more support than regular squats (time it during contractions), labour is the time to dance and dance well (dance like a masquerade), twerk if you need to break your water (because that hurts less than Pitocin), if you get tired during labour, ask for pain relieving IV drip (before 6cm). Use that time to rest and get your strength up. Once you get to 8cm, get on your knees. Gravity will push baby into birth canal faster. Get a doula (any person who can ginger you, preferably someone who has delivered or someone used to Sports). It could be a sister, an aunt or even a brother. Leave the prayer warriors outside your labour room (because sometimes, labour is a mental game and you will eventually feel fear and you need a coach). Know what to expect (you'll be in pain and want to run away, you will get thirsty so have ice blocks to suck on). Remember, labour could be 3 hours or 18 hours. That's upto you and God, you can't control it. Whatever you do, be firm but flexible. If you decide to take an epidural, nothing wrong with it. |
Chanbaby:By adding fruit to it. |
PresVA:How flush is your pocket? Similac makes a good mill. Also, for yogurt, have you heard of Habib yogurt? They have shops all around, walk in and find out if it's suitable. I know it's fresh and unsweetened. |
Livez:Lower the cot (most cots have 2 heights). That height is for newborns and small babies. Dancing Queens like yours need more height so that they don't boogie too much and fall off ![]() And she isn't hyperactive, she's a Dancing Queen! (yes, this is a song, look up the lyrics). |
Sissie:Thanks ![]() LloharB HolySteph There is no such thing as "Best brand of baby bathing plastics", that's a marketing code word for "I put a sticker of a baby on a regular bucket from Mushin and am gonna charge you plentyyyyy" ![]() No need for powder. Almond or Olive oil (majority of the coconut oil on the market isn't good quality, as it is not cold-pressed. Cold-pressed oil is not cheap). Natural Nigerian makes wonderful oils, also a Made-in-Naija brand (like my diapers!). Please email nefesnappies@gmail.com for your Cloth Diapers, we are the original Fluff Mamas ![]() Clothes: British companies have thicker fabrics on thier clothes, American clothes have more designs. For your daily wear (all white onesies) Mothercare, for your going-out clothes US brands. Not necessarily Carter's. May I recommend The Children's Place, Old Navy and Gymboree? Excellent quality. Carter's is good but their fabric is thin, so it will wear down faster and fade and be thin by the time you get to baby no 2. Also everyone has them in Nigeria so you will see similar dressed kids like yours. But for your onesies for every age and clothes you will use daily, Mothercare or splurge on pricier US brands like Aden & Anais, SkipHop etc you won't regret it (my blankets will easily do 3 children before I worry about fading or being thin). Buy quality now, save in the future. For maternity bra, please find a shop and get fitted. There are some in Lagos. Otherwise, your boobs will sag, eventually. Get an underwired bra. Don't buy cheap (any Walmart brand). If you can order from Macy's in the US, I recommend them. Medela (very good), Spectra (good) and Evenflo (good) are breastpump makers. http://nefescorner..com.ng/2017/06/new-baby-lets-go-shopping.html?m=1 m http://nefescorner..com.ng/2017/07/milking-it-for-all-youre-worth.html?m=1 http://nefescorner..com.ng/2016/12/why-did-i-choose-to-cloth-diaper.html?m=1 And here's the original thread on Cloth Diapers https://www.nairaland.com/3511128/how-cloth-diaper/5.. PS: don't buy more than one fleece blanket if you live in Nigeria and down south: it's too thick for daily use. You need a good-quality muslin blanket. Or get an old cotton wrapper (it will be thin and malleable, and the dye should have set by then). |
Amberon11:I don't say this light... You guys have promise. You need good voice actors and people to work on your script as well as Directors. Do you have links to the creative industry, as in the film section? You need to speak to the more adventurous people as well as those who control stuff now because they control the money. |
blackFTM:That's crazy. Thank God you all made it out safe and Un harmed. |
Julyborn:Also check out Mecure Labs, Oshodi (it's right on the Expressway) and Lekki phase 1 |
Sigh. We don't have Interior Decorators in Nigeria. If this is what is passing for their work. It's a mishmash of styles: plush settee, modern TV stand, geometric design on throw pillow, goodness knows what the painting is. Where's the taste level, the focal point, the harmony? |
Guinness Nigeria offered a Rights Issue that closed last week and are now posting profits. How so? |
