Hello mums! Sorry o, I made smmmmaaaallll mistake I gave the slots for our Q n A sessions with doctors to the other writers and they brought their villages for consultations . So I've bounced some and the mums here can now submits questions and I'll put some to them. The team of doctors are 3 consultant Paediatricians 2 paediatric dermatologists 1 consultant gynaecologist 1 neonatologist And the most powerful of them all, one 9-time Grandmama ![]() So, to submit, you must be following us on Instagram (@nefes_corner) or Twitter (@nefescorner). Then send your question via DM on either platforms. No names will be published. Try and send it in no later than Wednesday next week please. Oh, and they said they won't make specific answers that recommends certain drugs (they all won't prescribe medicine unless they see the patient). Thank you! |
Hello guys. The last 2 weeks, we've been sitting down with health care professionals from the different fields and slowly picking their minds on what they would like patients to know. Please see: https://nefescorner.com/healthcare-for-all/ https://nefescorner.com/its-all-in-genes/ We will be speaking more and we are planning a QnA session. Hopefully we will be able to take questions from here. Thanks. |

iwuoahsamuels:Leave the diaper off for 30 mins to air him. Take him to a Paediatrician so they prescribe the right ointment to dry up the pus, though it won't work asap as the skin is not broken yet (they won't want to prescribe oral anribiotics). |
As promised, We keep seeing "where is the beat place to do this or that", especially in terms of hospitals. Guys, we did the homework for you. And we all use this service, infact the only time I personally think it's overreated is for my eyecare. Otherwise, the day I needed to be rushed to the hospital, I was glad I wasn't looking for cash on hand. Please read: https://nefescorner.com/healthcare-for-all/ |

spiceeamiee:All Firstborns are picky. Most subsequent children are not picky eaters. The only constant here are the Parents, who are usually overwhelmed for their first child (and give in to their every whim and wahala) but Time and Experience makes them not be manipulated by other children. The best cure I've found for pick eaters is another person feeding the child or other kids. One of the blog writers uses the 2nd trick: one of her neighbour's elderly mum stays with them, bored. So she became everyone's grandma. All the kids in the building head there after school for early dinner. They eat well. When I struggled with my picky eater (3 menu options per meal), I sent her to grandma for a while and it ended miraculously. Same thing happens in schools: your picky eater wants to eat with his best buds in class. |
As for hubby sneaking it behind your back, I too have a badly behaved husband when it comes to sugary stuff. I usually plan with my paed during visits: I tell the Dr what I want, and he comes out and tells Himself what I said, backed up by non-existent medical jargon the Dr just made up. It's working! Himself believes in fake Maltina that causes Kidney relapse, hard sweets and Ribena causing allergic reaction due to Tannin and glucose levels. I also use his mum and my mum, so they can call him and in the middle of discussing family meeting, go "OMG papa Emeka was crying to me, Emeka's teeth have all rotted off and he's just 14 months!". Because I got tired of arguing and always being the "Bad Guy" when it came to saying no to sugary drinks everytime. Himself knows most of these shenanigans are false, but he goes along with it. |
spiceeamiee:You shouldn't be juicing watermelon, as it's 92% water already. Just give her the watermelon like that. Freshly squeezed juices don't preserve well in the fridge so if you're not up to it, don't kill yourself. But if you put oranges in the fridge, they come out chilled and delicious. For her tantrums, well as I type this, Spud is in the midst of a full-blown tantrum. She's still alive (barely! Because I'm getting pissed and her life is flashing before my eyes dangerously) so that proves that tantrums don't kill children. We will have to do more scientific research on this tantrum thingie. ... And the tantrum has stopped. Massive Ignoring seems to be the cure. Perhaps try ignoring your LO when she freaks out about Ribena. |
Hey guys, New post up! Food hacks. I hope you like it. Please try that yorghurt hack, my kids don't like regular ice cream anymore because of it and it's sooo healthy. Plus yorghurt is so good for them, even 8 months old babies. https://nefescorner.com/6-food-hacks-for-your-baby-and-toddler/ |
spiceeamiee:Noooo to Ribena daily. Woowwww, please end that. Abeg!! Our new bestie is a Food Scientist (Ph.D) and she has started explaining how our gut works and why we should not be loading up on sugar. See, I got this cool hack. Daddy was annoying us with too much ice-cream. I got whole milk unsweetened yorghurt with pineapple, fruits and maybe a smigde of honey. Taste better than ice cream, healthier than ice cream and cures any type of constipation. Plus it is a great dessert for guests. Juice, try chilled OJ or pineapple (squeeze if you can). Watermelon is juice and fibre, just serve it chilled. Immunization, go to a GH. I think they're still on strike but it's the cheapest. You need a HMO. MUCH CHEAPER. I'm reviewing some plans and will post on the blog this week. Full Cream is always written on the packet. Dano's website actually says it's not suitable for children under 2 years. |
StrongWoman333:What does the sound, sound like? It may just be nothing. 12 days and you wanna groom hair, gurl, put the comb and ribbons down . Her scalp is a bit too tender for that just yet. She's pretty just as she is right now (perfect skin, chubby cheeks, fluttery eyelashes) |

Hey guys. I got a nice lady to talk about ideas on planning those birthday parties. She really stressed that you should not overspend (she's actually worked with an event planner but I told her to write it as a mum). So here goes: https://nefescorner.com/the-ultimate-guide-to-a-childrens-party/ |
Pweetiebabe, Your journey is not over. I know that everything may look bleak now but can we talk here? Firstly, how wonderful you got to have your angel! He was with you for a short while but he blessed you and your family. He was lucky to be born to a special place in your home and in his short time here, he was happy. So well done, mama! You are a great mum. You ARE, not were, ARE a great mother. Please know that sometimes God sends us these small moments and He takes them away because there is a final plan. And it's a good plan, it always works in your good. The final outcome always will be victory for you. Some days will be painful but one day you will be at ease to know you experienced your son's pure love and that he knew you loved him too. Dont ever forget your angel, we all remember the names of our angels: Ikubor, Harry, Bebe. He was and will always be your firstborn. Even in Heaven, he's waiting to meet you one day and be with you under God's loving gaze. Don't leave this thread. This place is for mums and you're one of us, okay? You always will be a mum and your voice is always welcome here. I don't know about others, but mention me and I'll always reply. You're always going to have a spot here. Accept my condolences. . |
babythug:I have great memories of carpet grass! I also recall it needed a lot of watering and I hope you don't have snakes in the area sha (they love sleeping under carpet grass). Well done o! Your place is really shaping up, happy for you. ![]() |
Pweetiebabe:He's going to be fine, by the Lord's grace. Contem2011 and NoQualms1, I don't know any swim schools there. Unless you look up Crawford Swim on Instagram and ask if one of their trainers will come over and then find a gym that will be the venue. |
Please, ask your schools for their food policy, in addition to this: https://nefescorner.com/picking-right-pre-school-and-nursery/ Our school has a policy of 3 times a week, no sugary drinks or snacks, only fruit and water. And there are water dispensers around the classrooms. Which makes it so easy for children to avoid eating sugar. And it forced most parents to stop giving their kids sigary snacks. I have never bought: Biscuits, Ribena, Caprisun, etc for school (however Daddy is badly behaved, so I'm currently hiding a bag of lollipops he bought in my pant bag ).I recall someone's school where the teachers were the one egging her on to give her child Chivita juice (neat, no dilution with water!) and now her oldest needs teeth filling already. So when you're doing your school research, ask "what is your food policy?". If they offer school lunches, don't jump into it yet. Start school and monitor and see if your child wants to eat with his friends whom are eating school lunch. So you don't end up paying for food that never gets eaten. We rotate: rice, beans, yam pottage, spaghetti with vegetables, sweet potatoes and egg sauce to school. Snack is usually carrots or fruits. No juice. One of these days, I'll try a sandwich but her school likes food kids can eat with a cutlery (helps them with Dexterity). When it comes to food, please don't over think it. My first, I did all the doables and read up the readables and bought and bought stuff that ended up being thrown away. Then I spoke to my friend (who's Indian) and her laughter cleared my head (we will be doing one on Nutrition on the blog because of her). She gives common sense advice about a lot of stuff. |
Top of the rainy morning to everyone! Gonna drop the blog link here: www.nefescorner.com Anything you've ever wanted to know about babies, children and you, knack there for the tori. Aaaaannnddd, since we are being Intentional and Deliberate, like in this post: https://nefescorner.com/be-intentional-in-planning-for-kids/ Because I have been speaking to some knowledgeable mothers and they are all individually saying the same thing and doing some things alike and seeing good results (when someone's daughter is developing an app and has already raised seed money for it at age 12! I can't dull myself and leave my kids' future to chance) and these people are not connected to any big name, it's all on merit. So for our able blog subscribers, there will be discounts to certain events, summer camps for the upcoming holiday. And there will be a post for Financial Planning from the Ogbonge master of Personal finance himself. There's also a QnA session with a Child Psychologist, a Speech Therapist and one very deeply annoying Consultant Paediatrician coming up. Things are gonna be so exciting! |
Hello pushing mamas. This is just to encourage everyone who can't sleep, pleaae try to. And try and avoid stressing too much the closer you get to your due date. My BP shot up and I needed to work on stuff to relax. Try and take long walks, no phones and tv (there is too much depressing news out there, switch off your social media for an hour or 2 daily). If you're already on your maternity leave, arrange baby things and start looking for a hobby (please don't start thinking "how will it make me money", not everytime worrying about that). My friend's BP shot up and she started going to hang out with those roadside gardeners near here (they gave her free plants like Mint and herbs). She has discovered a new hobby and her BP is down to normal levels. Hth. For those with babies already (yay!), I posted on ways to help out tummy time for newborns and infants www.nefescorner.com/infants-newborns-get-in-here/ |
Hello everyone. So have posted on ways to help out tummy time for newborns and infants www.nefescorner.com/infants-newborns-get-in-here/ Forevergirl, we cleaned with soap and water and a washcloth to avoid water getting into the cut. Always use an ointment (Aquaphor, Neosporin or whatever balm they give you plus a gauze) to cover the wound. Hth |
modupsie and every mum experiencing this, Please don't burst it. Please check a few pages back for my post about which dermatologists to go. This skin issue IS GOING ROUND NOWADAYS AND IT IS ATOPIC DERMATITIS. This will be cleared up with antibiotics but needs a Dermatologist or a Paediatrician (who has experience in dermatology). Ask your doctor to give you a contact for one (a good doctor KNOWS his/her peers, if your doctor is unable to send you to a specialist of another branch of medicine, that may be a sign you're not dealing with a doctor (a medical lab scientist was caught running a clinic, Nigerians will do anything for money). I've seen a lot of bad advice passed around here very confidently and it is one reason I stopped posting. Please. I have seen that pus-filled eruptions on babies and we just got ours cleared up too (5 days medication). It looks like acne not a boil, right? Is your baby covered in rashes that won't go away? You shouldn't be using a cream on it. I will advise you to take your child to a Dermatologist. That is who helped with ours because the Paediatricians tend to prescribe an anti-bacterial ointment (won't work as it's not topical and you need to treat from the inside). |
Happy Children's Day! We will always enjoy our little blessings...even when they flush our phones down the toilet Please the blog is up! Check out and follow www.nefescorner.com for as much info as you want. If you want to ask questions, that's the best place to leave a comment (I'm kinda wrapping up on NL). Lots of interesting topics by so many knowledgeable people coming up (by the way, those that came for the Children's Fair, hope you learned, I wish I could have met some of you because there were some people I wanted to direct y'all to. I got so much from it and had a chance to sit one-on-one with MMWN, a truly lovely and accomplished woman). So yeah, www.nefescorner.com. Thank you! |
