Abiagirl777:One of my brothers has OCD. One of my cousins has OCD (and he has 3 kids and all-white carpets all over his house). I think you have to get used to it. What you can do is encourage him, with baby steps, to mention something he notices should be clean and then leave it to you to handle. And you have to be very patient and reward him for everytime he allows himself to lose control of the situation e.g. "Baby I'm so glad you left me to tidy up the kitchen, I even cleaned the fridge!". Positive Reinforcement works a lot. If he wants you to use a tray to eat Garden eggs, use it. Let him win the small battles and start weaning him off his need to control his environment. |
pheesayor, doctors in the U.S. give Vitamin D to newborna because of their diet and medical concerns. Here in Nigeria, we don't have such dietary issues (ours are different) and I'm quite sure a lot of doctors would not recommend any multivitamin till after 6 months. Don't give Agbo. I do not trust our current crop of trado-medical practitioners (and I say that as someone who likes Alternative Medicine). You don't want to do anything to a newborn's fragile constitution. |
mumsgirl27:Well, a couple of little birdies told me that after 1 year, toddlers can drink any type of Whole milk. That follow-up milk is a marketing ploy to package whole milk and sell more expensively. Also, DrAda mentioned here that actually Peak123 is loaded with sugar. So, you can give Nido, Dano or whatever as long as it is Whole/Full-cream milk (same thing). |
Prettyhurts, thanks for sending out those greetings to our missing-in-action Mums. I guess some of them may have moved on or are more active in the Pregnancy Thread and that is fine, if they feel comfy there. Though I have a feeling sometimes questions are lost and it would be hard to answer pregnancy-related questions. We welcome all our new and old mothers, please always feel free to drop in, say hello, share your funny stories and tough times. We are drama-free here (due to lack of sleep ) and we pass on our advice with Love (even if it may sound harsh, I'm sure everyone means well). If you don't get a reply immediately, ask again and mention some monikers (questions may get lost sometimes), we aren't ignoring anyone. Remember, we are all rooting for you to succeed and be an awesome Mum and help other new mums. It's a circle ![]() |
cutiereborn and musmgirl27, at that age, wean verryyyy slowly. We just weaned at 15 months. The hardest feed to stop is at night, especially when baby uses it to fall asleep. So for one week, just stop feeding her when she wakes up at night. Baby will cry and all you can do is hand her over to hubby and leave the room until she sleeps back. Also when she wakes at night, give her water to drink. Then once that has been established after a week, stop feeding her to sleep. She will really cry, but know that in 2-3 weeks, she will be fully weaned. The slower you go, the less engorged you feel in your breast. The good thing is, once you wean, baby starts sleeping through the night. |
cutiereborn:Happy birthday Olivia! Have a wonderful day and may you continue to bloom and grow wonderfully. |
ozycy:She doesn't poo every day which is why a routine is a bit difficult. But I'll do the rest, thanks. |
Hullo, Zionx. How are you and your LO? |
Guys, how was your day? I went to Balogun, Oke Arin, Dosunmu, Tom Jones, Oyingbo and Iddo all in one day. All by myself! So proud of me! I'm a grown-up now We have started potty-training. I know to put her on the potty in the morning but when else during the day do I put her on the potty? |
mompurity2:I dunno, I'm of 2 minds: my sanity-loving mind asks why on earth you would want to wake sleeping babies when you should be doing your best to get a little more sleep and be grateful they're even sleeping through the night. My Mother mind wonders if they got enough to eat during the day and if they didn't, maybe you should wake them up. I do know a lot of people say Babies and Children will never starve themselves. If you are stuffing them with milk at 11pm, I think it's fine. Go get some sleep, perhaps? |
Gerrard59:Please check your mail. Nothing too serious but you may need some follow-up. |
Dyt:I hate hearing stuff like this. Because this is how i feel and it hurts when I acknowledge it. Nigeria feels like punishment. |
Dyt:please what website is that? |
Dyt:mehnnnn now I feel lazy. Why am I not teaching kids on weekends? I'd be great at it. |
There's a difference between dating a guy you're not sure of and dating a guy you are wondering what you're doing there. I have been on dates where I wondered what made my legs come to this place and i have been on dates where I was hoping the guy would like me but inside me I was baffled why I was setting my standards so low. See, if you think this longings you have and loneliness you feel are bad, try getting married to someone whom in a year's time you think to yourself "maybe I should have waited a bit longer". That is the truth of so many marriages, each spouse thinking "maybe, just maybe if I had stayed a bit longer, the next guy/girl was The One". So don't rush. The only people who can live a happy life in a loveless marriage are those whom are able to effectively distance themselves from any sort of emotion: happiness doesn't carry them away and neither does Sorrow. They are pragmatic to the core. That's less than 15% of the world's population. You're not one of them, because this is getting to you. You get? If the pressure gets to you, get off social media. Why bombard yourself with a million pics of your classmates posting pictures of smiling babies and happy husbands and blissful peace? You're not jealous, just being sensible: no need to punish yourself looking at cake when you're dieting. You get? What are your interests? Go find them. It is better to find someone who likes you the way he met you. So if you like going out, it's better to meet a guy in a club than meet him in church and pretend to be what he wants for a ring and dying inwardly. Go pursue your interests. When you meet a guy, take a look at your list. Find the one thing that you really need, not what you desperately want. The first thing in my list was a Strong Sense of Humour and Wit. But every single witty guy i met didn't want me. Guys are weird, they want girls they can impress, not girls that can match up to their skills. That Intelligence factor you crave, well those guys will friendzone you so quickly for that chick who thinks a Sidney Sheldon novel is deep intellectual thinking and puts up motivational pictures which she barely understands. That's why every wise woman will tell you to "laugh at his jokes and don't crack yours ". You get?Live and love your life. Don't wait around for Prince Charming, go out there, attend the ball like Cinderella did. He may be waiting there. Enjoy this minute because you are never getting it back. You get? You're gonna be fine. Fist bump! |
Doubledouble:When I had Baby E, I switched from Enfamil to Gerber formula. She drank it readily so I bought like 6 and packed it in my box and flew more down. At 5 months, I put a bottle in her mouth and she gave me a look that translated to "What is this sh*#?!". Na so the security's child enjoyed formula of N10,000 per can (my house in Heaven must be furnished with antique wood and silver for that blessing I passed on ). Feeding for them is always like that. We have chased her around the living room, begged, sang, ended up try in 3 different meals at mealtime. The more you stress, the harder the baby fights you. So even if it hard, DON'T STRESS IT! Always have his backup meal at hand. Right now, Baby E will throw rice out of her mouth if you give her with a spoon, then calmly sit on the carpet and feed herself every grain. As long it enters her mouth, I don't care how it entered! As for buying of formula, just do like my mum: every time we buy from her, she collects the payment 3 times over (something of N1000 can be paid for 3 times, paying N3000). That is her "retirement find fund from childhood". I don't know about the groundnut paste, I'd be scared but can you freeze it? |
barak4real:I think you can check at the hospital with your doctor. 2 weeks old baby is too fragile for us to be telling you to go and buy anything to apply. |
Gerrard59:The only thing one said was asked if you had done a scan recently to make sure there's no swelling. But I'll check back again for an answer. |
MizOmalicha:Clearly there is something affecting it. We can't see it and we don't know if it's itching or swollen. The best decision you can make is to take him to the hospital first thing tomorrow. Leave him in peace for tonight, avoid letting soap or anything touch it during his bath tomorrow and be on your way to the hospital as soon as possible. |
#Troubletime If your husband has ever attempted to milk you during breastfeeding like a cow (because he was curious how "it worked ) and you threatened "if you try that again, I will leave you!", then remembered you're a Stay-At-Home-Mum and you want to ask him for money that same day, you're on a looonnnnggg thing ![]() |
Seun:Gluten-free and Paleo diets are actually causing problems in the U.S. In their fear of Celiac disease, they've caused more complications. It's best to do everything in moderation |
Optimum20:well said. But will it work for a country, not just a state? |
repogirl:It it is who gets to buy that is the issue. Certain assets should be sold to outside sources e.g. NLNG. Whatever FG does, they should NOT sell that to a Nigerian owned company. Because the buyer will use it to manipulate other companies into bankruptcy by withholding the one thing needed for them to power their production plants: Gas. Example: we are all tomato sellers at different levels. I buy the only tomato-blending machine in the market. Every time you, my competition, wants to blend tomatoes for your customers, I tell you the machine is not working or increase the price. Meanwhile, I send my boys to tell your customers that not only will I sell them tomatoes, I blend for free. Won't they stop buying from you? That means your business is gone and you're out of a job. Now, imagine that happening on a much larger scale. Imagine I am Danjuma or Dangote or one of the other big players who guys at the bottom don't hear about. Imagine if you are any other company running a business in competition with them. Think of all the job losses when they buy up assets other companies need. Sure, we can call it Capitalism and hail them, but when a small group of people own every viable business in the country, their risk is larger. If anything happens to those small group, the whole country suffers. If that group decides a weak Naira is better for their business, it is you and your family that will struggle to buy fresh tomatoes to eat and will consume unhealthy Tinned Tomatoes, not them. America in the 1930s had Rockefeller and a depression, Russia had Oligarchs and is now struggling. Why would we be different? Nigeria's problems aren't about laws, it's about the the fact that the person making the law will be hand-in-pocket with the person planning on breaking the law. Even a level 7 civil servant is stealing public funds. We need a national re-orientation. Buhari did one thing, which people don't know: he went to China to convince them to stop buying our illegal crude oil. That's why militants and their backers are pissed (do you know how much money Nigeria was losing by it? Imagine a Naval officer telling me how much he pays his different crews to siphon off oil). So that that revenue will come back into our coffers. If you think I'm lying, go and check the actual locations of some of those pipelines bombed. They are underwater. I know militants, they don't have that skill. So who does? The same people in Govt making noise. Reflect on that: who are the people who benefit from an impoverished country desperate to sell off assets? Sale of asset should be carefully scrutinised. Certain conglomerates should not be allowed to buy certain assets. If we are serious, Government would have reduced their numbers at the highest level down, told states to go and find their own money to fund themselves and poured every single penny of what we borrowed into massive infrastructural spending. The Ministers we should be seeing working tirelessly should be Fashola and Amaechi, followed by Agriculture and Minister of science and Technology should be investing money in Universities and Technical colleges processing our raw goods, not supplying viewing centres for watching an eclipse. We are not ready and we are not serious. So the sale of these assets will not do any much good. |
comtem2011, happy birthday to your LO. May he continue to grow from strength to strength. |
Christybabe, enjoy the increased libido and be happy for it because a lot of women had the opposite. Lucky you! eolowu1, a lot of ladies use the breast pump to pull out their nipples but i was told it could damage nipple tissue. There were other methods but I can't remember. I'll look it up. |
Doubledouble:Babe, if Ewedu works that well and is a fraction of the price of Fenugreek and readily available, you're the smart one for getting that info and sharing with us. Thanks. So it seems Ewedu is good for producing breast milk. Did you just blend the Ewedu leaves and drink neat? How many times per day did you do this and for how long? Were there any side effects? |
OP, it seems a bit weird that you could borrow N100 for a Recharge card but allowed your children eat oranges. Are you in the village, because food is cheaper there and at least you could have asked a neighbour to feed the children and watch them as you work (that is reasonable and just buy one yam or something as "thank-you" for the neighbour afterwards). I mean, I just don't know but you're losing credibility. It looks like parts of your story is true but you're twisting other parts. All the best to you. |
Adeime:Technically, Fenugreek is not Ewedu. They look alike but they are not the same and Fenugreek doesn't grow naturally in Nigeria unless you plant it here so it is not our local plant. Fenugreek is a bitter type of leaf (even the powder has a taste) and Ewedu isn't. I could go into this more but I confirmed it by their classification and all my Indian "waka" I used to do in the past. Fenugreek is good for milk production though. |
phunmykay:No, teething powders are not recommended or considered safe. If you look up Teething Powders with the Search function, you'll be able to read plenty of discussions about it. HTH. |
dp but will modify |
blank:that's true, I forgot that place. I keep saying I'll go there o. Thanks. |
Esama is trying to consolidate power since Tinubu seems to be losing his. I wonder what Oba feels. Oh well, I hope the bride knows how to navigate this, all the best to her. |
